Situated on the Nile, Riverbank House is a spacious, self-contained villa with arches and tiled floors throughout. Across three levels, it features five well-appointed bedrooms, each air-conditioned with its own bath/shower room. The ground floor features a reception room with satellite TV, substantial kitchen with Nespresso machine, one double bedroom and one twin, both with ensuite. There is also a utility area with washing machine. Up the stairs to the middle floor, the windows overlook the Nile and providing a gorgeous setting for our antique Ottoman-style dining table seating 10 and the comfortable and atmospheric sitting room. Additionally, there is another double bedroom with ensuite plus twin bedroom with ensuite on the middle floor. There is a further twin bedroom with bathroom on the top floor. Last but not least there is a private, sun-filled walled garden adjacent to the villa with a large 12 x 4 metre swimming pool, exclusively for you.

The piece de resistance is the roof terrace, perfect for a refreshing sun downer after a day of sightseeing. Or enjoy a shisha pipe of apple tobacco like the locals while you stargaze. From the roof terrace, you will look out across the Nile to the Winter Palace directly opposite and Luxor Temple on the East Bank. There are comfortable sun loungers if you feel like relaxing with a book or simply watching life on the river go by. There is an outdoor dining table seating 10 under a domed roof with ceiling fan and decorative shutters that can be modified depending on the weather – allowing for coolness to escape the heat of the day or breeze in the evening. The roof terrace is an ideal place to enjoy a traditional Egyptian breakfast of fresh falafel, feta, tomatoes, cucumber, bread, yoghurt, honey, pancakes, omelettes, freshly-squeezed juice, fruit salad and coffee. This can be provided daily for 120 Egyptian pounds per person. If desired, a cook can also be provided for other meals at the house, from a light lunch with salads, babaganoush, tahini and flat breads to an impressive BBQ on the roof or four course dinner for 240 Egyptian pounds per person (eg soup, salads, dip and bread, meat or fish course with vegetable sides, rice, dessert - decided in consultation with you). There are some excellent restaurants on the West Bank, many just a few minutes walk away, as well as a mini-supermarket and some small shops.

Riverbank House is beautifully furnished and maintained to high western standards of cleanliness throughout. All rooms have air-conditioning, ceiling fans and insect screens on the windows. The villa has satellite TV and free Wi-Fi internet access.

Where you’ll be

Luxor, Luxor Governorate, Egypt

Beautiful village setting, on the less commercialised West Bank side of the Nile opposite the winter palace...
The royal tombs - Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens are on West Bank.
Luxor (ancient Thebes) is a world heritage site, said to contain more treasures and antiquities
then in any other place in the world.
One of the greatest open-air museums, The Kings Valley and all the other tombs and temples are close to our Villas on the West bank.

Opposite Villa Rosamund on the east bank of the River Nile sits the modern part of Luxor,
there are two huge, surviving monuments : Luxor Temple
and the impressive Karnak connected by the Avenue of Sphinxes.
These are easily accessible by river boat.

During your stay

Khyry is not only your wonderful host but also a professional Egyptologist who will arrange everything for you at your convenience. He will also be on hand to help you organise your time in Luxor. If you would prefer to be left to your own devices then of course that is perfectly fine too.

Charismatic, very knowledgeable and extremely well connected, Khyry is able to organise any excursions or experiences you desire. These range from visits to world-famous tombs in the Valley of the Kings to exquisite lesser-known gems in the so-called Valleys of the Nobles and Workers, where he can arrange a private tour unhindered by other tourists. A trip to Luxor wouldn't be complete without exploring the many wonderful temples, but for a totally different perspective, why not see them from the Nile on a felucca? It truly is a spectacle to behold. Camel rides through local villages, walks in the mountains and overnight desert safaris can easily be arranged for the adventurous. Or just relax in the year-round sunshine or go for an evening boat trip and watch the stunning sunsets over the Nile.

Khyry speaks excellent English, owns a ten-seater car and a motor launch, â Siriusâ. He is also an accredited tour guide. He has lived on the West Bank all his life and certainly has his finger on the pulse in this timeless city. Khyry will do his absolute best to help plan your stay in Luxor and ensure that it is a very special one that you will always treasure.
