If travelling mid July to mid August, enjoy u-pick blueberries fresh off the bush!

The space
Quiet, clean, cozy, the perfect farmstay getaway. The cabin was originally part of our off-the-grid homestead and farm. We have since modernized, and are now connected to the grid. That said, we welcome guests to tread lightly on the land and experience an eco-friendly travel alternative. The cabin features a queen bed and a twin bed and bathroom with a shower. Please note that the cabin does not have cooking facilities, but does have a small refrigerator for snacks and a tea kettle for hot water. The cabin has a cheerful, simple decor, abundant natural daylight and south-facing views of beautiful Mount Sterling. The old-fashioned dutch door lets in the fresh air and farm soundtrack while keeping any resident chicken, duck or farm-dog visitors out. A Rinnai heater and down comforter will keep you cozy on the coldest of Northern Vermont nights, while the summertime air is pure and fresh.

Guest access
We encourage guests to venture out into the varied, hilly topography of the farm, and there are plenty of magical places to explore. Our hill farm is 40 acres of blueberry fields, orchard, pasture and mixed hardwoods, abutting hundreds of acres of neighboring fields and forest. This ecology presents ample opportunities for backwoods recreation including hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and swimming. In the summer enjoy a dip in one of our ponds. Blueberry picking season is mid-July to late August. If visiting during blueberry season, you won't want to miss our fresh-picked organic blueberries or farm-made ice creams.

Other things to note
We aim to make the cabin as family-friendly as possible.

While we don't provide cooking facilities, the cabin is minutes away from main street Johnson's cafes and restaurants. Foote Brook Farm store is right across the street, with its awesome selection (open summer and fall) of locally produced farm products and organic produce, while the Johnson General Store with its wide selection of typical staples is also minutes away.

There is a small refrigerator where you can store food and drinks and a picnic cooler for your use on day trips or picnics around the farm. There is also a electric tea kettle for heating water for hot drinks.

SPECIAL WINTER CONSIDERATIONS: NOVEMBER THROUGH APRIL:
PLEASE NOTE: 4WD or AWD AND SNOW TIRES IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DURING NOVEMBER- APRIL. This is Northern Vermont and daily fluctuations in winter weather are very common. Access to the cabin is via a long, uphill driveway-We aim to keep the driveway plowed, but we cannot be responsible for your vehicle's ability to access the cabin. There are some parking spots about 1/2 mile and 1/4 mile away from the cabin at the bottom of the driveway close to the main road if you are unsure or choose to walk in. DAYLIGHT ARRIVAL IS ALSO HIGHLY RECOMMENDED DURING WINTER.

Our homestead is unique because although we are minutes from Main Street Johnson, we are off the beaten track, nestled uphill past several farm fields and tracks of woods. Our driveway, turning and climbing almost 1/2 mile, takes on the character of our Northern Vermont seasons. During winter we keep the driveway plowed but 4wd is recommended. During March-April, "mud season" when the snow melts, things tend to be wet and a bit mucky, but it is a great time to visit some sugar houses to sample Vermont maple. Summertime, mid July-September we have our u-pick blueberry operation and ice cream stand open to the public. Fall is nice, quiet and absolutely beautiful. Winter can also be beautiful but road and driveway conditions can be dicey - please see note above about winter access. There is always parking near the start of the driveway if you are ever unsure of the weather or conditions.

It is home to Northern Vermont University (formerly Johnson State College) and the Dibden Center for the Arts, the Vermont Studio Center, Johnson Woolen Mills and various other local small businesses, each with unique character. Johnson is located where the Gihon and Lamoille Rivers converge, providing regionally famous swimming holes and paddling opportunities. Johnson is a great place to access the Lamoille Valley Rail Trial, a 4-season recreation trail that follows the old Lamoille Valley Railroad line E-W across northern Vermont. It is conveniently located about 20 minutes from Smugglers' Notch, 25 minutes from Stowe and 50 minutes from Jay Peak ski areas.

We are a family of four with two quickly growing kids. We started our organic blueberry farm in 2008. It has since grown about 4000 blueberry bushes, 4 acres of apple trees (still a bit too young to bear fruit) raspberries and strawberries. Ben has a background in the construction trades and built all structures on the farm, including an earth-bermed greenhouse, strawbale house and ten-sided round barn, which has housed several rounds of pigs, sheep and ducks. Our family loves traveling and the outdoors and is fortunate to have had the opportunity to be airbnb guests both across the country and around the world over the years. This is one reason we love hosting visitors and encourage everyone to come for a taste of what Northern Vermont has to offer.
