  • This really is a cozy cottage in a quiet neighbourhood. I slept well there. The music system in the cottage is great, too.

Tom was a friendly host, and made sure I had settled in well. I'd stay there again.

  • Great experience. Tom and Allie were very nice and helpful hosts. The place is gorgeous and very private, adjacent to a lush wooded area, and the location is very convenient to Stanford and downtown Palo Alto. The beers in the kitchenette fridge were a nice touch, and loved the hot tub after a run in the neighborhood. I will definitely be coming back, and I recommend that you stay there as well.

  • I enjoyed my stay in the cottage. The bed is spacious, the desk and chair convenient, the cottage has excellent heating and lighting. Bathroom and kitchenette are in the main house, but the side door leading to them is literally two steps from the cottage - even in rain I didn't feel inconvenienced. They are strictly for the cottage occupants to use, the host family doesn't use them. The bathroom contains a toilet, a sink and a roomy enclosed shower area. The kitchenette has a small fridge, a microwave and a small electric oven. I didn't really use the kitchenette, but if I did, it would be for occasional snacks or a microwaved meal, not for real cooking.

Tom, the host, was very friendly, but didn't impose on me in any way. As it happened, my stay in the Bay Area was very busy, I never had time to socialize with the host and didn't feel awkward about it in any way. With the cottage having its own access path (lighted at night) via a separate fence, I felt like living in a separate residence.

Location-wise, this is in the part of Palo Alto immediately adjacent to Los Altos. Both Los Altos and Mountain View are close and are about the same distance as the Palo Alto downtown (University Ave.). Biking in the vicinity looks like it might be fun, but I drove everywhere.

The wi-fi always worked fine. There was always plenty of space to park in the driveway. I basically can't think of anything to complain about. I'm glad I chose this cottage over a hotel room, which would have been a boring and sterile experience in comparison.

  • Great place! Perfect studio cottage for solo or couple, with extremely comfortable bed. Tom and Allie were gracious and respectful hosts. Allie generously offered a bike and bike path directions to food shopping upon my arrival. Quiet, beautiful setting, and a short drive to Stanford campus. Loved listening to their music collection with great sound system when unwinding in the evening, highly recommended, will certainly return.

  • Simple, cozy and comfortable. Had a great stay here. The bedding is so soft I didn't want to get out of bed. Great experience!

  • I had a great experience. Tom has a beautiful little cabin for a very reasonable price in a good location. He has taken care to make things very easy for his guests.

  • Tom's place was a perfect fit for me. He is very responsive to any inquiries or requests, yet stays out of your way to let you have your space. Very clean cottage and bathroom. He offered to lend me his bike, play on his drums, and the fridge was stocked with BEER....need I say more?!

  • I literally landed at Tom's cottage after driving across the country with a dog and a cat. His accommodations were exactly what I was looking for, close to trails, and amenities, including coffee shops, Trader Joe's and Whole foods to name a few. I was pretty busy while I was there, finding a place to live, furniture, etc, and Tom was a great combination of helpful and respectful. I wish I'd gotten to enjoy the hot tub. I'd definitely recommend this one to a friend. Thanks, Tom!

  • Tom was a very friendly and helpful host. He even gave us a lift to the nearest Carl train station.
The accommodation was in a very quiet location so we had a very good night sleep :).
Having the bathroom separated from the cottage means having to get fully dressed on a chilly night if you need to visit it. Also, the kitchen is very basic and might need more cutlery and crokery; and there is no sitting area inside the cottage.

  • Tom has set-up a great cottage for guests in the Palo Alto area. The pictures are pretty much self-explanatory. The cottage sits about 3 feet behind Tom's house and is very private and secluded. It looks out on a bunch of trees and a small creek -- very calming and a one of a kind in the Palo Alto area. Highly recommended.
