Private home in gated community "Caramar" on the Pacific ocean. Spacious 2-story house with 3rd story look-out tower, 3 bedrooms each with a full bathroom. Large view windows, tiled throughout, tiled wrap-around patio and pool area, also with ocean view. Peaceful, last house along the beach in Playa Negra. Fishing, surfing and sunsets in your own backyard.
-Details: 2 bedrooms upstairs, one with king bed and A/C, one with queen bed no A/C, and one downstairs with 2 single beds and A/C. Each bedroom has it's own full bath (toilet/sink/shower). There is an additional shower outside by the pool area, and 2 additional single beds for guests, one upstairs, one downstairs The house is well ventilated and the winds are cool by the beach so we never use the A/C. It feels safe with the gate and guard house at the entry of the community. A popular surfing area, hotel and restaurant is a short walk or bike ride north. There are a few grocery stores and eating places in the town of los Pargos, a 15 minute walk.
-Charms: We spend most of our time lying in hammocks reading books or bicycle riding, we apologize for not having taken more photos. It's beautiful and peaceful here, there are monkey families in the trees, iguanas and hermit crabs scurry across the yard, It's the last house along the beach so few people or cars ever pass by. The house was built 50 meters from the water which is the closest possible according to Costa Rican law. *If you want crowds, traffic & fast-food - Tamarindo is 1/2 hour north. If you want a place sanitized with bleach, disinfectants & perfumes - stay at a hotel.
Relaxation required! Enjoy the housewares: beach towels, books, cocktail glasses, curios, DVD's, If you accidentally leave items on the beach the high tide will come and steal them. Please replace any lost or broken housewares.
One of the joys is preparing food, delicious local fruits & vegetables & fresh fish. Please keep a tidy kitchen - otherwise unwanted critters will appear.
A housekeeper comes once a week (usually Monday) for 1/2 day for basic floor/bathroom/& kitchen cleaning (NOT your laundry). You may try arrange with her independently any additional cleaning work - she will quote you a reasonable price. It is OK to tip her.
There is a 2-week minimum stay during the holidays (Dec.17-Jan 6) The housekeeper takes the end of Dec. off for Xmas - sorry, no cleaning during that time period.
Our host made us feel very welcome.
The listing was accurate and the neighborhood very quiet and secluded.
OUR CASA VERDE EXPERIENCE
We were 5 people. Two couples and a single. (Two active seniors and three super active 25 – 35’s.) We were there for 16 days. All in all we had a fantastic time and are considering a return
THE BOOKING EXPERIENCE
Roxanna, the owner, could not have been nicer. She gave us all the information we needed prior to arrival.
- The house is big and airy. Lots of fans kept air circulating
- Three private baths for the three bedrooms was a BIG plus
- Beds were comfortable
- Showers were good. Plenty of towels and a clothes line for damp stuff.
- Washer and dryer was also available. (didn’t use them much)
- Good drinking water from the tap
- Great spaces for working out
- The walk to the beach was not far
- An outside shower rinsed off the salt and sand
- Pool was great for cooling off but not deep enough for swimming
- Lots of wild life: Monkeys, birds, all kinds of crabs, frogs, bats, dragonflies, butterflies
- Bugs weren’t too bad
We are all good cooks and felt that the kitchen was the weak point
- Stove and fridge need some serious upgrading
- Not enough silverware
- A couple of “good” maps of the area would have helped a lot for our first couple of days. We were constantly lost because signage is virtually non-existent and all dirt roads look the same.
- Wi-fi was advertised but was non-existent and it was inconvenient to have to go into town to try to get on the web
- The house managers Joff and Sara were invaluable resources for local information . They and their kids could not have been nicer.
- The cleaning lady Digna was also very nice though she speaks very little English.
- Everyone we came in contact with was friendly
Our group of 5 really enjoyed Casa Verde. It was a 5 minute walk to the Playa Negra Hotel and surf break. The place is beautiful and has a great open layout and everything you need to stay for the week or more! The pool was really small but perfect to rinse or cool off quickly. The place had an outdoor shower, great patio around pool, wraparound porch with hammocks, and a third floor cupola with a great view and an even better breeze. We felt safe as the last oceanfront house at the end of the road and the beach. It was a quick drive into Playa Negra which has everything you really need - including places to grab a bite/drink - but you'll have to head to Tamarindo or Santa Cruz for major shopping. The house manager was great and took care of hooking us up with everything we were looking for and didn't know how to find - even surf spots, of which there are plenty nearby (no less than 5 within 15 minute drive). Despite being a fan of trying new places every trip, I'll be very likely to return to Casa Verde. Pura Vida!
Four friends and I stayed at Casa Verde for a week and had a very enjoyable experience.
The house is as nice as it looks in the pictures, and is located on a beautiful piece of property set back a few hundred feet from the beach. The house and pool were clean, and the sea breeze made the temperature in the house very comfortable with the windows open.
The kitchen is fully stocked with cooking equipment, and has an electric range with four burners but no oven.
The beach is a mix of sand and areas of rock. There is a nice break in front of the Playa Negra Hotel just a short walk down the beach. It is a nice surf spot and the hotel is a great place to enjoy a fire on the beach, play volleyball and meet some cool people.
The manager of the property was incredibly helpful in providing recommendations about where to eat, where to buy groceries, what excursions are fun, and what to do in the area around the house. However, ensure that you purchase a wireless plan for the week or set up a time that you want him to let you into the house, as our hones didn't work and we had to use the neighbors phone to reach him. The house is about one to one and a half hours from the Liberia airport and around four hours from the San Jose airport by car.
There are some nice restaurants a short walk or drive from the house, small grocery stores, and places to rent surf gear.
My group is in agreement that we would love to return.
Quiet, peaceful, and serene this house is a great deal within walking distance to a great break. 5 Minute walk to Playa Negra and easy drive to shops in town. Terrific breeze on the second floor with the ceiling fans and windows open - we didn't have to turn on the AC our entire stay.
