The Oak Barn at Lower Venton is a luxury two-bedroom cottage, the perfect base from which to enjoy Dartmoor and the surrounding area. This detached barn conversion is designed as an “upside down house” to make the most of the stunning views of Dartmoor and to create a light, airy and spacious living environment. It has been lovingly handcrafted in oak finished to the highest standard, and stylishly furnished throughout for your comfort.

The space
Beneath a vaulted, oak-trussed roof space sits the lounge. Large sofas and scatter cushions create a comfortable environment for lounging in front of the cosy log burner, watching a film on the large screen TV or listening to music. As the evenings draw in, create your own ambience with the variety of lamps, low-level in-floor lighting or high-level up-lights. The kitchen is handmade from solid oak and granite and fully equipped with a 5 burner, two oven range, a fridge, separate freezer, dishwasher, washing machine/dryer and other essentials - perfect for the aspiring chef! We even offer a wine rack stocked with locally produced wines, beers and soft drinks and an honesty box arrangement for payment.

The master bedroom features a contemporary styled king-size four-poster bed, the second bedroom has two single beds that may be linked to form a super-king size bed. Both rooms feature contemporary en-suite bathrooms with large walk-in showers and baths. A cot and high chair can be provided on request.

For the colder wetter Dartmoor days, the cedar-lined sauna in the master bedroom offers relief for tired muscles after an active day on Dartmoor. Under-floor heating throughout the cottage provides constant comfort during the chillier months.

A large, south-facing, sun terrace with BBQ and dining area offers breathtakingly beautiful views over the surrounding pastureland and the open moor.

Guest access
The cottage is set in the grounds of Victorian farmstead in an ancient hamlet and accessed via a shared drive. During their stay, guests enjoy exclusive access to the cottage and the large private garden to the rear of the cottage.

Other things to note
We have a 7kw EV Charger for the main residence which guests are welcome to use on request. We will bill you at cost via a credit card payment link.

What makes my home unique: The peace and quiet!
Helen and I have lived and worked on Dartmoor for over 25 years. We raised our family here and were lucky enough to be able to enjoy this beautiful place with its rugged tors, woodland walks, amazing views over open moorland and it's rural communities. We look forward to welcoming you to Dartmoor!
