Experience the Africa hidden in Colombia
We will take a cultural walk around the Palenqe of Benkos, off the beaten path, where you will be immersed in the Africa hidden in Colombia. We named it Black Legacy Experience, because it is definitely an essential place for our black history in Colombia. This town hosts a sort of spin off of Cartagena's history in timeline. We are new in Airbnb, but you can check out a bit of our trajectory on IG @blacklegacyexperiences We’ll pick you up, and here begins our journey. We’ll be on the road for around 60 minutes. There, we meet our friend, the native guide and we start our walk. We visit meaningful spots such as the monuments of Benkos Biohó (the town founder) and Kid Pambelé (World Boxing Champion) and the Traditional medicine yard, among others. After that, we conclude with a glorious traditional lunch. We also learn some words in their language as we tell you the story, so you'll be able to greet natives and you'll receive, not only their greeting back, but also their smiles. So, be prepared to interact and experience this community of resistant and warm people. BTW: We manage this experience by private circles for your safety and comfort, so please check your price depending on the number of people you’re coming with. Applies for solo, couple or group travelers. Any questions, DO NOT hesitate to contact us. Sigifredo Calvo is our friend and vehicle provider
Urban food tour with Panama blogger
Get ready for an immersive tasting menu as you get to experience the real Panama - from the gritty to the most Insta-gramable, and everything in between. Our day starts in the historic Casco Viejo neighborhood at a trendy rooftop where everyone in the group will get to know each other. I’ll give you the quickest history lesson on Panama City and how it’s changed throughout its development before we start our adventure. We will then walk a few blocks to one of the most luxurious hotels in the neighborhood to try a street food delicacy gone gourmet. Next, we’ll head to Santa Ana, the most vibrant part of the city where locals still live. We will visit my friend’s chocolate shop where you’ll get to try some unique treats, take photos in front of colorful street art, and walk down Panama City's only pedestrian avenue to buy fresh ingredients for our mojito-making workshop later on. We'll also pass through one of the most affordable artisan markets. From here, we are going to ride the underground metro to the city center to explore the laid-back Via Argentina neighborhood. While here, we’ll be eating at an old-school restaurant to try classic Panamanian food with a twist. For our last stop, we are GOING UP to a rooftop bar for a mojito-making workshop where you’ll get to make your own cocktail while watching the sun go down over the city and try fresh ceviche.

Jungle, Chocolate & Snorkeling Adventure in Dolphin Bay
A fresh 'pipa' (young coconut) awaits you at the dock of our farm, located in the heart of Dolphin Bay, a quiet lagoon surrounded by mangroves, right before you'll join us for an exploration of Finca Montezuma's cacao grove grown under centuries-old shade trees. Keep your eyes open for sloths, monkeys, toucans & other birds while we're harvesting fresh cacao pods & discover their morphological diversity. Back at the farmhouse you can try your hand at winnowing & grinding our artisanally fermented cacao beans into cacao liquor while we indulge in cacao drinks & treats, including some of our prized dark or milk chocolate creations. The walk back to the sea side along the lovely hibiscus path provides some time to greet the farm animals (sheep, cows, horses, dogs, cats,...) & learn about the fruit trees (biriba, jackfruit,...) & exotic flowers (vanilla orchids, gingers & heliconias). We'll then hop on the boat to our favourite local snorkeling spot to explore sea gardens of sponges, anemones and starfish and spot majestic rays and the occasional octopus! The lush mangrove island is also home to birds like pelicans, egrets & cormorants. Along the ride you may even get to see the resident bottle nose dolphins of Dolphin Bay in their natural habitat. Are you ready to experience Bocas in a unique way...? We're happy to help organize transport from town & elsewhere.

Botanical Garden and Jamaican Art
This nature excursion is unique because it is in our home. You will meet my family and all the birds living in the wild who make our garden their home. We'll start with a welcome and brief history of how a cliff turned into a botanical garden. This is followed by a guided visit of the terraced garden with hundreds of tropical plants. At the end you will then visit the gallery and gift shop where all items are made on site. This helps us to provide jobs for members of the community presently employed here. Our guests are then encouraged to stroll the garden on their own taking pictures and visit my partner in his studio as he paints. We are both educators, so the history of Jamaica and Rastafarians are shared with interested guests. Each guest is given a complimentary juice depending on the fruit in season. You can purchase an optional Jamaican lunch which is cooked to order. The lunch is not included in the entry and may be paid on property when you order. Amateur and professional photographers can spend hours in the garden as the subjects are numerous. There are optional art classes with my partner as the instructor. You may arrive as a guest but when you leave you will feel like you have spent the time with family and friends. Other things to note Bring a camera, wear sandals or sneakers, no high heals.

Visit a piece of Africa in Colombia with a native host
This experience is for at least 2 people. Let's meet at at "Plaza de la Aduana"to will take you to discover our african roots. This place was a slave´s market where africans were sold to work in plantations, as housekeepers and to build the wall city. From here we take private transportation to go to "San Basilio de Palenque". On this trip we explain slave's route and strategies to escape from Spanish and found this town in 1603 and reach their freedom in 1713. At the moment we get there, our native guide will take us around the town and teach us it's history, traditions and beliefs. Basically we learn about the culture that made Palenque a World Heritage Site in 2005 by Unesco. This town still keep the African spirit and it's easy to feel it since we get there. We visit the main square where Benkos Biohó is honored as the founder of this town. By this experience we understand the importance of the legacy that Africans left in our culture. With a drum performance we witness their passion for music and dancing. At the end of this experience you will be able to understand our roots and the influence of Africans in our culture. "The cost of the experience includes a 90-minute private, air-conditioned shuttle ride to and from Cartagena" Check our public market + local home experience https://www.airbnb.com.co/experiences/398315 75% off now.
