Mar de las Calmas: paradise at hand

SandraRating, 5 stars8 months ago
Our stay in Mar de las Calmas was simply unforgettable. Carlos, the host, welcomed us with great kindness, picking us up at the port with his 4x4 and taking us to the accommodation. The place is a real paradise - spotless and surrounded by a coconut garden, BBQ area, and hammocks perfect for relaxing. The room, exquisitely decorated, was equipped with all amenities, including a very comfortable bed, full bathroom, refrigerator and a charming terrace overlooking the mangrove. Thanks to Carlos' recommendations, we explored virgin beaches, visited the Reserve Museum, and enjoyed a unique dive in the coral reefs, guided by an expert scuba diver. The dinners in the villa delighted us with local flavors. As a gold brooch, in the evening, Carlos showed us the southern hemisphere constellations and with his telescope we were able to admire Saturno, Jupiter and objects of deep space. A dreamy place to stay!
A modern pool area features a clear blue pool surrounded by tropical plants and trees. The deck is made of wooden planks, and rain is visible on the surface, creating a serene atmosphere. Lush greenery lines the perimeter, enhancing the tranquil setting.

Bonsai Villa Cottage

Rachel And JesseRating, 5 stars73 months ago
The Bonsai Cottage is just as described in the listing if not better! Mark and Justina were wonderful hosts, and we loved our stay. Bed and linens were brand new and super comfy. On arrival the fridge was thoughtfully stocked with a few provisions to get us through the first couple days, some veggies, fruit, coffee, bread cheese and some drinks. The kitchen was well appointed with pots, a frypan, Moka coffee pot, dishes, glasses dish towels etc. We stayed for 2 weeks so it was a perfect for cooking all our meals right at home. The house is located in a beautiful rural area outside of Maputo. It’s about a 15 min taxi ride the city. But the fact that it’s outside the city makes it very quiet and peaceful. However there isn’t really anything that’s walking distance that we found. There are a couple malls nearby (Marés or Bahia mall) with restaurants and grocery stores on the marginal about a 10 min drive -or a chapa ride (public transport) if you’re brave :) There are two guard dogs Jota and Luna that live on site. They are super precious once they know you and trust you and we loved them but if you aren’t dog people Mark and Justina were also super conscious of putting them away during the day when we were out enjoying the grounds and pool area. The grounds are beautiful and garden like with veggies, herbs, palms and trees and the pool area is a perfect place to relax. We spent many evenings around the pool drinking wine and enjoying the sunset. If you’re looking for a place to chill and relax after a long day of site seeing this is perfect for you.
