Vacation rentals in Batu Pahat

Batu Pahat is a small town on the southwestern coast of the Malay peninsula, less than three hours south of Malaysia’s capital, Kuala Lumpur. Thanks to its beaches and nature trails, the town has become a popular weekend getaway from Singapore, which is just a two-hour drive from town. Batu Pahat means “chiseled rock” in Malay, and the city gets its name from a tale of 16th-century Siamese soldiers who were seeking fresh water. At Minyak Beku beach, next to the police station, you’ll see the well the soldiers are said to have dug.

The historic buildings of the Old Street Commercial Centre have been transformed into boutique shops and restaurants serving a broad diversity of cuisines. When you’re wandering around Batu Pahat, you’ll come across many murals depicting everyday Malaysian life and messages about the environment. If you get lost, look out for the purple and gold clock tower that sits in the main town square — and you’ll quickly get your bearings.

Due to its tropical location, Batu Pahat remains hot and humid all year round, with very little fluctuations in temperature and humidity levels between the seasons. Rain is possible throughout the year, but you’ll see the least rain from December to March. That being said, it’s a good idea to pack a waterproof layer. Even in the rainiest months — April and September through November — you’ll likely enjoy a few hours of sunshine each day, so don’t let the idea of the rainy season deter you.

Soga Perdana Amenity Forest

Sogo Perdana Forest, just three miles from the center of Batu Pahat, features 120 acres of unspoiled tropical forest, laced with trails, bridges, and viewing platforms to help you enjoy the natural beauty. As you climb to the 600-foot peak, you might spot some monkeys or one of the many bird species that live in the forest.

Dinosaur Park, Batu Pahat

Open all day, every day, Taman Rekreasi Tasik Y Park has an artificial lake and jogging track as well as life-sized dinosaur sculptures. The T. rex and Triceratops statues that dominate one section of the park are a great place to take selfies. Further into the park, you’ll discover a covered area with smaller dinosaur statues.

Kampung Segenting

The traditional fishing village of Kampung Segenting is about five miles from Batu Pahat. Chong Long Gong Temple, founded in the 1860s, honors local fishermen, and is home to large arapaima fish that are said to bring good luck. Near the temple is a jetty called Lover’s Bridge, providing a romantic backdrop if you’d like to snap a picture for a memento of your trip.
