Houseboat vacation rentals in Africa

We had an awesome experience in the house boat and the kids loved it. The weekend was just to short. Will definitely be back and for an even longer stay.

We loved our stay aboard the self-piloted Port Alfred houseboat on the Kowie River. The surroundings were beautiful & peaceful and it was an amazing experience. The hosts were excellent, especially Johan who was the instructor for the course to obtain the temporary skipper's certificate of competence.

We had a fantastic time on Galloping Waters--excellent service, good food, lovely environment. The staff was very responsive and helpful, and great with the kids (4 kids, ages 10,9, and 6(x2)). The on-deck pool provided for hours of small person entertainment.

We loved everything, the house is equipped with everything you need, our stay coincided with my birthday, there is a restaurant on the waterfront where we were able to get oysters and champagne. At night the house offers a very beautiful view of the mountains and the coastline and of course the starry sky. Julia was very kind and it was a pleasure to talk to her. Definitely recommend for an unusual experience.

We had a wonderful stay. Tamer was very responsive and helpful. The views are breathtaking and the houseboat is beautiful and spacious, even when sharing with guests in up to 3 other rooms. Caretaker Mahmoud is very welcoming and accommodating and the other staff was kind and made a beautiful breakfast in the morning. Great value for money and would recommend to anyone staying in Elephantine Island. The free boat pick up from the mainland at check-in is a great additional service.

Impressive!!! Aziz told us how to get there, how to buy the ticket for the canoe that took us from the Ndongo pier to Mar fafako, where Ben, the accommodation manager, was waiting for us. He treated us very well, everyone was very kind and willing to make sure we had a relaxing and charming weekend!!!

Perfect place, if you are looking for something special in Kairo, location ans style-wise. Well-quipped and tasteful, clean, interesting vibe on the Nile. Communication with the hosts is very proactive, they care and give good recommendations. It is a bit adventurous to get there, as the door is a bit hidden, however someone is there to help you in a minute. Car noise is omnipresent in Cairo, but ear plugs are provided. We really enjoyed our stay in our cosy boat cabin, thank you!

We were so comfortable that we stayed one more night. Aziz is great, the house is the perfect place for idleness and the slow Senegalese life. Canoeing in the mangrove forests, carriage rides, putting the world to rights and enjoying this quiet and relaxing place are the main activities around this little piece of heaven. Our departure was difficult but we had to take off for other adventures! Aziz thank you, to you and to Ben and Awa for everything, really!

This was my first in Mar Lodj island. It was everything I was looking for. The breathtaking view, the calm, the serenity, the symphony of chirping birds make Aziz’s place one of my favorite. The locals are most friendly as they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. After a gorgeous sunset, the gentle waves lull you to a deep sleep. Great food at neighboring restaurants, seafood galore at great price.

Loved this place - really charming and full of character. Hosts were great too. A bit noisy during the night but then so is all of Cairo!

Abdelshakur’s boat is a gem on elephantine island. It is close to the only basic shop of the island and to the motorboats leading to downtown. The advantage of being close to the city center while being in a very quiet and lovely environment. Abdelshakur is very helpful and offer little tours around the Nile, and can even cook for you. Breakfast was delicious and fulfilling. Only cons if you’re not aware: no wifi on the boat, which is not a real problem to be honest
