Vacation Rentals in Tonga

Just booked in Tonga

This little gem is ideal for people visiting Tongatapu for business or holiday. It's a self contained cottage on the same property as the owner's home. Conveniently located, it's in a quiet garden setting and 15 minutes walk to central Nuku'alofa.
You'll have everything you need & more in this modern 1-bedroom cottage. Cozy yet spacious, the unit plus it's amenities & location will provide you with a comfortable home-base while in Tonga. The full kitchen is outfitted with all the necessities and the washing machine in the unit is a major bonus! Ideal for a single or a couple, but the sofa converts to a full-size bed so there's space to accommodate 2 additional people. Other amenities include solar-heated water, wireless internet, ceiling & table fans, & private outdoor seating in a garden setting.
Located in a quite property at the end of a shared driveway off one of the main roads into town. It's about 10-15 minutes walking distance into central Nuku'alofa, the business hub with plenty of shops & cafes.
  • On all fronts, this very comfortable cottage exceeded expectations and the photos definitely don't do justice. Amy is both relaxed (which rubbed off on me) and attentive. We had the best night's sleep here in our entire stay in Tonga, so much so, we extended our stay. The cottage was very well equipped and designed. It "just worked". We liked being off the 'main drag' and felt we had a sense of 'living here' rather than just being tourists. (We were here for both work and play). We'd love to stay again and recommend the cottage highly (although not too highly in case it becomes so popular it's impossible for us to find some days there). Huge thanks to Amy and Tony for our stay.

  • Really enjoyed staying in their beautiful home, Amy and her family were very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend to anyone.

  • We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Amy's guest house and it truly felt like we were at home. Amy kindly provided toiletries, beach towels, sun screen, cooking essentials and much more, and gave us great tips for where to eat and buy groceries. We were also able to do laundry which was really helpful and there was also a blender so we were able to make delicious smoothies. Hearing the chickens in the morning and making friends with her cat are definitely a part of the highlights! We would very happily stay here again next time we make it back to Tonga! We rented a car for T$40 a day with a T$200 bond (at the car rental a few places down from friend's cafe) which was very helpful as it's necessary in order to get around at ease and to be able to explore the island. Since Amy's home is in the town center and the beaches we wanted to surf at were all the way in Ha'atafu, it was the easiest way for us to get there. We also took the public bus for $2 per person which you can get at anywhere on the side of the road (you just need to know where you want to go and in what direction), but it seemed to come at no particular time and the bus we needed stopped coming after 5pm. We highly suggest trying Mum's Cafe (the fish pasta, the fish curry, fish and vegetables and the sweet chilli fish are amazing - those were all delicious!), and if you are cooking your own food, to buy your vegetables at the market in the center as well as other groceries at the supermarket across the street since it seems to be the cheapest. There are also some side of the road stalls selling vegetables and fruit, but most seem to have the same prices. Cash only, and small bills. The ice cream in town is also delicious and the scoops are very generous! Definitely buy alcohol at the airport at the duty free since it is a lot more pricey in town and at the resorts. The ATM at the airport wasn't working, therefore either bring currency to exchange there or withdraw cash at the ANZ ATM in town - beware there is a T$12 charge for each withdrawal. Overall we had a fantastic first time in Tonga and were so sad to leave. Definitely will be back again one day.

  • We highly recommend staying at the cottage. It is close to the centre of town and Amy really made our stay as comfortable as possible. She is a great hostess - friendly and very helpful. The cottage is perfect for short or long stays - clean, well equipped and very cosy. It really felt like a home away from home.

    Stephen2017-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely place to stay. Amy and her family are very helpful and made my stay thoroughly enjoyable. The space has a kitchen area and feels secluded and safe. It was nice staying in a local area and seeing locals go about their daily lives yet it is only a short walk to the city. Highly recommended.

    James2017-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Host was there when we arrived which was later than expected, Amy gave us apples as we hadn't eaten since breakfast and also a torch as it was dark when we were heading into town. Place was comfortable, we didn't cook but there were facilities for this.

    Mandy2016-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Amy went out of her way to make me feel at home and welcome. Amy is a perfect hostess. She quickly smoothed over any small issues that came up. I really liked the location, as it gives you a feeling for what it's like to be a local (eg chickens and their cute little chicks running around, very interested in food scraps!). It's a 15 minutes walk to the centre of town where there are plenty of good places to eat. I went to Mum's Cafe a few times, which is just two blocks away. There was no TV in my accommodation, so take some entertainment with you if you feel the need for it.

    Jemima2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Unfortunately, the start of our holiday did not go quite as planned, as Amy was overseas at the time and the arranged pick-up from the airport did not happen. When we finally arrived at her place by taxi, the sign with our names on the gate, as agreed, was not present and the only person to greet us had no idea about our arrival. However, eventually Amy's husband Tony turned up and upgraded us to the larger apartment at no extra cost. He was also extremely helpful the next day by assisting us in obtaining a hire car by driving us from one hire place to another. This enabled us to enjoy the rest of our stay. Burkhard and Laura

Pineapple Bungalow is a self contained one bedroom house with lounge / kitchen and toilet / shower room. Front and back porch, own garden.and sea view.
  • Tim was a great host. During our whole stay he has been really helpful and provided us with quick replies to all our question/needs such as the art of coconut opening! ;-) He picked us up from our previous accommodation in Neiafu at the beginning of our stay and took us to the airport when we left, which allowed us to enjoy our holiday until the very end. The bungalow is really clean and corresponds to the description. It includes everything you need to spend a good time here. The surroundings are quiet and this is a nice place to rest and enjoy the Tongan life. Neiafu town center is only 30mn walk. A Vanilla plantation and coconut oil factory is just 5 minutes walk from the bungalow and it is worth the visit. It's a shame that it is so far from France otherwise we would book it regularly. :-) Thanks for everything Tim !

  • Had a lovely relaxing time at Pineapple Bungalow. Tim went above and beyond to help us with rides to and from the airport - which we really appreciated. Even though we were a ways from the main ‘hub’, and chose not to rent a car - we had no problems hitch-hiking and getting taxis to and from Tim’s place.

    Kim2017-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Tim, Essa, and Thomas were great hosts! We really appreciated the rides to and from the airport and all of Tim's friendly and helpful advice. The bungalow is spacious and quiet with all the amenities you need to live and cook. Excellent value!

    Vega & Simon2017-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Tim met us at the airport and delivered us to the Bungalow which was just as described. Very comfortable, clean, everything "ready to go" good neighbours. Fan over the bed was a life saver as it is hot and humid in Tonga in January. Tim is not a native Tongan but his wife Isa is training him well in the ways of the "friendly islands". He and Isa took us to church with them on Sunday, man can Tongans sing praise to the lord! Isa sent us some traditional Tongan food which was delicious.

    Charles2015-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Everything was a breeze with Tim. Communication was excellent, we had a few queries before our arrival and he was very helpful. He met us airport on our arrival. We loved our stay on Vava'u and definitely recommend the Pineapple Bungalow to anyone visiting. We loved having our own space and made good use of the kitchen and a hot shower was a very welcome surprise!

    Mary2015-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was a magical and unique experience!!! I strongly recommend people to stay in Pineapple Bungalow, waking up every morning with the sounds of birds, pigs and chickens and the amazing view overlooking the sea and the nearest Island!! Pineapple is a really cozy and private house, it has all you need to be comfortable, you can go for a walk and you will find spectacular views! Walter and Pops its closest neighbors are fabulous, very kind and friendly. I truly loved my stay at this place!! would definitely recommend the Pineapple Bungalow to future travels to Vava'u.

    Kelly2017-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Tim is a very kind, helpfull and reliable Host. The Pineapple Bungalow offers you complete privacy which is appreciated a lot. Regarding the low budget prize it offers everything you need. However you cannot expect it to be luxurious. It takes a while to get into town as well as to nice swimming beaches. I would probably hire a rental car next time. Ask Tim, he can help.

    Susanne Dhyani2016-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Tim was a very considerate host, he picked us up in town and made sure we had everything we needed. The place was comfortable, spacious, clean, safe and even had wifi. We were very happy with our stay!

Malo. Nikki and Paea welcome you. Vava'u escaped the wrath of cyclone Gita in February. She are safe. Our cosy waterfront fale sits on the edge of, overlooking clear, protected waters abundant with coral and fish life. You will experience local life, tucked in by the water, at the quiet end of the village You will swim and kayak a few steps from the fale doorstep. Come and enjoy the friendliness of Vava'u.
You will enjoy -a private fale -one queen and one single bed. - a deck to have a breakfast of fresh fruit and a view to Mt Talau. -shared access to bathroom & kitchen facilities, living room w/TV, pool table, garden plot and fresh fruit - 10mins to town. - vehicles to rent -guided village/island tours on request with local young people - watch local women weave and buy local craft - star gazing in the silent tropical night -experience village community - Safe quiet stay
We , Nikki and Paea live on the edge of Paea's childhood village. We face the lagoon . The village comprises of 98 residents living a simple life nestled up on the hill behind Local birds punctuate the evening air, herons pop in, and fruit bats hover over trees as night falls. Chickens and roosters don't seem to dominate the night as in Rarotonga!! Local women gather in the day to weave and plait mats and fans. Time spent with them can be arranged. Local students can be asked to take you on a guided tour of their village, explaining life from a young person's perspective.
  • Great host, he makes the time incredible for you. Discreet spot away from the crowds. Quite an experience, stairs from fale straight into the sea for amazing snorkelling. Had a fire at night and enjoyed the peace and nature.

    Joshua2016-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Paea and Nikki have a really nice fale near the sea. They were renovating their house when we stayed, but if you're looking for a quite, isolated spot for rest and tasting coconuts opened for you by Paea, this is your place. Also, they have kayaks, push bikes, motorbike, car and snorkelling gear for rent. And lots of fruits for breakfast. If you really want to experience Tonga without the comfort of everyday life but being immersed in the Tongan community, you must stay with them.

    Pablo2017-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Words can't describe how awesome my stay in Vaimalo with Paea was. From arrival with Paea to snorkeling at the reef 20 steps from my door to touring the island, it was the perfect experience. Sitting around and chatting and watching the ocean, talking story, this is where you want to stay in Vava'u while you are here. You don't want to stay anywhere else!

    Aaron2016-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • I had such an amazing time stay at Vaimalo Fale. The location is absolute paradise, with the Fale literally 10 meters from the ocean with pristine corals and tropical fish at your doorstep. The village is tiny and beautiful with the kids super friendly and excited to practice english. Cute pigs everywhere ! It's about a 15 min drive into Neiafu the main town so you will to factor costs of rides into your budget but it's very cheap. Nikki and Paea were out of the country for the majority of my stay so I had the place to myself. As a solo female traveller I felt safe and comfortable. When they did return they were lovely generous hosts excited to share their little piece of heaven with guests. The fale is simple but comfortable with everything you need. Vaimalo is the perfect place to stay while in Vava'u for whale watching as it gives you the chance to reflect on the awesome experience of swimming with whales, with ocean sounds to help you sleep and waking up to a morning snorkel, I was in heaven. I can't wait to stay again.

    Kelli Jean 2017-07-22T00:00:00Z
  • Paea's place in the village of Vaimalo its simple but confortable, quiet and dark at night so you can see the stars clearly; the water was just a few steps down from from the hut ("fall") we were staying, went snorkeling there very day which was very pleasant.

    Kattia2017-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful experience! We loved being part of Nikki's and Paea's warm family for 3 days. We really enjoyed the relaxed Tongan atmosphere, the traditional Umu, the snorkels, swims and kayaking in the lovely reef just down the stairs from our fab fale. Vaimola Village is just a short drive out of town, allowing you to relax and escape the modern day hustle. Nikki and Paea rent out a car or push bikes so the rest of the island is easily accessible. Anyone looking for unique Tongan experience, go to stay at Vaimalo Fale!!

    Veerle2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time in vaimalo. It is a very quiet village but you can learn a lot about the tongan lifestyle and Nikki and Paea are a real enrichment for the small town. They were really helpfull to us and we had some nice dinners together. Paea also taught us things about the local plants and fruits. You can rent new kayaks or a car from them to explore vavau and the prices are okay. The fale itself is really cool and just a stairway away from a nice bay with good snorkeling. So we would definitely recommend staying at the place for at least 5 days.

    Max2017-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most amazing time in Vaimalo with Paea ! If you go to Tonga, make sure to go to Vava'u and to stay at Paea's fale ! Very clean, comfortable, 5 meters from the sea, you can not dream for better ! Maybe one of the best places to snorkel in Vava'u ! Paea is so nice and will take good care of you ! He made our stay in Tonga very special ! Thank you again for everything!

  • We had a wonderful stay for a week at Hafu's House. Will and Kate are amazing hosts, they are incredibly welcoming and I felt like I was staying with friends. Pre-arrival Kate was super helpful in answering all my questions about Tonga and what to do. And this continued while we were there - Kate and Will gave us lots of ideas of where to visit and also took us out with them. The house and bedroom is lovely, comfortable and close to the centre. The kitchen is big and well stocked; and it was wonderful having tea, coffee, milk etc to use. The garden and hammock get the afternoon sun so it is a lovely place to relax. Overall, one of the best Airbnb experiences I've had.

    Mishal2016-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • Hafu's house is a home away from home. Will and Kate are so welcoming and friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the area too. The accommodation is clean, really comfortable and the facilities are fantastic. Being able to cook was such a plus for us. We would thoroughly recommend staying here and we will definitely be back!

    Penny2017-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • Will is a great host and made sure we felt comfortable at all times. Highly recommended. Well done.

  • These guys are wonderful and went to the extra effort of picking us up and dropping us off at the airport at horrid house! Super lovely couple, wonderful safe central spot, couldn't reccomend them more! Also super affordable! Malo will and Kate!

    Veronica2016-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely people in a lovely house ! Kate and Will have been really helpful during our stay. Their house is not far from the center of Nuku'alofa, and there is everything you need around the house. Best way to begin my trip in Tonga !

  • Absolutely loved our week at Hafu’s house. From picking us up late from the airport and making sure we could get some food, to showing us all the best spots like Pangaimotu Island - Will and Kate are awesome. Accommodation is really comfortable and chilled, a few other travellers there who we made friends with. It’s close enough to walk into town or you can jump on a bus. Shops and markets are nearby to get food. Will and Kate were there to provide tips for exploring the island and they often gave us lifts to town if they saw us going out. It was my birthday whilst there and they went way out of their way to ensure it was an unforgettable one :) Malo guys

  • Staying at Will & Kate's is like being at home. Rooms are nice and clean, they have a large communal area for hanging out and two awesome cats. Will & Kate are the most hospitable hosts we've met and great source of local information. The best place to stay in Nuku'alofa for sure!

  • We stayed two nights at Hafu's House at the start of our Tongan holiday. Will and Kate were super friendly and looked after us well, they picked us up from the airport and gave us useful hints and tips about what to do during our stay. The house was clean and comfortable with some personalized touches. Will and Kate were very relaxed and we enjoyed some drinks with them and their friends. Even though we had a very short stay, it felt we knew then longer and we wouldn't hesitate to return to stay with them again.

  • Stayed at Hafu's House with my friend for 2 nights and it was a great experience! Very cute and homely place! Really clean and tidy kitchen, and basic kitchen supplies were provided such as eggs, tea, coffee milk, and there was a bakery across the road which made preparing breakfast really easy. Good location in town, with plenty of taxis and buses going past. Great value for money, would stay again!

  • We had a great time at Will & Kate's place we felt so welcome as soon as we arrived. The house is comfortable, homely & a great place to chill out & chat with other guests. Will & Kate were so helpful & friendly they arranged airport pick up & helped us out with anything we needed. Overall a great place to stay

  • We Spent 5 nights in the Hafu's House and was the best decision we take in Tonga. Will and Kate are an awesome host, We enjoy a lot in the house, they are very friendly and also super easy way people. Will told us a lot of places to visit, some no so touristic (but remember, Tonga is not too much touristic) and the best place to rent a car or restaurants in the city. Highly recommended. We will come back soon to Tonga and for sure we'll choose again Hafu's House.

    silvia2017-11-19T00:00:00Z

  • Very down to earth hosts and the hostel is great, big kitchen and outdoor space to lounge around. Movies to watch if you fancy chilling and two very lovely cats to cuddle. Quite a few animals in the area which you will hear, dogs, roosters and pigs but all adds to the Tongan experience

  • Lovely guesthouse. Great owners. They are very friendly and resourceful and will help you get settled and understand Tongan culture. Other guests are easy to talk to so you will immediately feel at home. We stayed three nights and will soon be back!

  • What a fantastic trip, we really appreciated all of the help and advice Will gave us. Such a fun and relaxed environment to be in, Hafu's House is perfect for meeting interesting people from all over the place including friendly locals and international guests. Swimming with humpback whales was incredible, but I don't think the trip would have been half as fun had we stayed somewhere other than Hafu's House.

  • Will and Kate are awesome hosts, starting right from when Kate picked me up from the airport to when Will dropped me at my next destination. Felt instantly welcome in their little backpackers, thanks guys - hope to be back

  • Hafu’s House is a good, affordable option located within walking distance to the centre of town (or short and cheap taxi ride). The place is set up for communal living, with shared kitchen, bathroom and lounge – making it a great way to connect with fellow travellers. Thanks to Will and Kate for sharing lots of local knowledge, both in the lead up to our visit and during our stay. Hope to see you again in Tonga soon – ten years between visits was too long!

Malo lelei (Greetings). Location, location, location. Mango B&B is located on the famous Sia Ko Veingo hill which is adjacent to the Royal Palace and directly opposite to the Girls Guide headquarter. Mango is a minute walk to town, fruit/vegetable & handicraft market, cafe's -Friends, Post, Escape , Prime Minister's office and the Ministry of Finance, Post office, TCC communication company . Its a 5 min walk to the Tanoa International Hotel/Faonelua Convention Centre.
Mango B&B is located in central Nukualofa in the well known residential area called Sia Ko Veingo, Kolomotua. Its the ideal place to stay at, if you are a tourist or here on business or returning Tongan visiting family and friends.
Mango B&B is located in a residential area of Sia Ko Veingo/Kolomotua on a very quiet street, but there will be sounds of birds, chickens, dogs, children and neighbors going about their day. As is typical in any Tongan town, there will also be church bells. If you are a light sleeper, you may need to reconsider before booking this place.
  • Suliana was extremely helpful and efficient when dealing with the booking, the residence is very central and is literally a few meters from the heart of of Nuku`alofa we will definitely be staying here again.

    Tommy2017-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Suliana’s house was clean and comfortable, situated just by the Royal Palace. Nice beds and spacious kitchen/lounge area. This place is perfect to stay in Nuku’alofa, only a few minutes walk away from the market and town. We were even offered a cheap lift to the airport. I highly recommend this house to anyone staying in Tongatapu to do everything central!

    Amélie2017-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Suliana's Mango B&B is roomy, neat tidy and very clean. The crispy white sheets and airy rooms are great. The balcony is wonderful in the morning too. It is very close to the centre of Nuku'alofa and you can walk everywhere, use the local buses or catch inexpensive taxis. It's great to be able to cook meals and snacks and Suliana and her Mum cook the most amazing cakes....try them when you are there!

    Marilyn2017-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Suliana's place, Mango B&B, became a home away from home to us on our recent 2 week stay in Tonga. It also comes highly recommended by my husband Peter and my grandson, Tom. The house is light and airy as well as being spotless. The white sheets are crispy clean and all the little touches like the flowers, books to read, pamphlets to look at and the great breakfasts provided, meant our stay was even more wonderful!! Thanks Suliana. ...I have been recommending Mango B&B (and a holiday in Tonga), to everyone I talk to!

    Marilyn2017-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • It was a pleasure staying in Mango BnB; such a perfect place for a group. We were there for a friend's wedding and between all our activities it was a great base to have. Great location for walking into town and most of the taxi drivers seemed to already know where to go; I doubt there's anywhere better and so central. We especially enjoyed the vast kitchen and sitting out cosily on the balcony for morning coffees. Suliana was very thoughtful checking up on us throughout and providing all our necessities. Malo and see you next time!

    Jennifer2017-08-15T00:00:00Z
  • I can recommend Suliana's place to other travelers. Thank you for the airport transfers and for sharing your knowledge.

    Jitka2017-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Mango B&B was a perfect place to stay in Nuku'alofa! Taiatu was away when we arrived but her lovely daughter's picked us up from the airport and were very helpful when our baggage was lost. The house was neat and tidy, fresh bread was provided for breakfast and the local Fruit and Veg market was just down the street! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here on our way to Ha'apai and on the way back through as well.

  • Lovely accommodation, room was spacious and clean. The house itself is in an upmarket part of Nukualofa and very close to town. Paea and her family live next door and are very helpful & super nice!

    Amelia2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay in the Holiday Villa was very good. The house was very comfortable, clean, and specious - much better than anything else we've experienced in Tonga. The hosts picked us up from the airport (for 50TOP), which was great. They were also quick to respond to our requests, and did so with a smile :-) The two only downsides were the fact that it was further from the downtown, compared to what we've expected (40 min walking, about 20TOP by taxi), and that the scooters they offer for rent are way overpriced (70TOP per day - more than a rental car). But generally, we definitely recomend staying there!

Homey Atmosphere... relaxed and feel at home.
We are not right in town, but very close and yet away from noise and buzz of town... You can take a stroll to the waterfront where the Royal Palace is, and can walk to church on Sundays...

  • The best thing about Backpackers Townhouse is Yvette. She helped us out by picking us up from our previous accommodation on a Sunday when there is no other transport. When we arrived back from an event at 8pm one evening she offered us a meal of (delicious) fish and rice, and when we were stuck inside one morning due to rain, she brought us pancakes. She was accommodating in every way. Thank you, Yvette. A nice touch was that the kitchen had all the basics available - tea, coffee, oil, salt, soy sauce, sugar, even stuff like peanut butter. The shower was good, the pillows were awful and I have suggested Yvette replace them (I'm sure she will). We were 10 minutes walk from the centre of town, right beside the royal tombs.

  • I really enjoyed my stay at the Port of Refuge Villas. Had to move house twice but that was not really a problem since the villas are all in very close distance to each other. Kitchen in the red/maroon house best equipped. Salesi and Joana made a Sunday lunch feast for us - traditional food, pig included (the one we saw running around the grounds in the morning). He also organises different tours, I participated on the island hop which was awesome! You really get to see the beauty of Vava'u by boat, lots of snorkeling and fish barbeque on Nuku island! Great!

  • My stay with Julia was wonderful. The bed linen, room and home were clean, the bed was comfortable, and I slept well with the fan in the room to keep cool at night. Julia and her family invited me to dinner with the family on several occasions. Most importantly for me, when I arrived Tonga I was sick with the flu and another medical problem. Julia actually called her doctor friend who came to the house to attend to me, at no cost, and helped me get better!! After the week I spent in Julia's place, my health was back to normal! Thank you for your sincerity, warmth, kindness, and hospitality Julia! I highly recommend Julia's place for a stay in Tonga.

You only 15 min walk to the main street and only 10 min to the warf to enjoy the different islands resorts. They have shared everything with me and I'am very glad that they opened their house to receive guests, so that we can totally understand the culture in Tonga. THANKS JULIA !
