Places to stay in South Baymouth
Not far from the ferry dock, this 100 acre Art Farm features organic gardens, exceptional up close bird watching, a pristine creek and a labyrinth for meditative walks. Swimming, hiking, fishing, and beautiful stargazing are all nearby. Your host can guide you to cultural events, introduce you to the Indigenous language of the region, and share magical true stories of the natural surroundings.
One of three rooms available (see our other listings), this cute room with a Queen bed has lots of light and a view of the creek. The happy buzz of organic farm life and lower room rates make this an excellent choice for nature lovers.
Manitoulin Island is truly unique in several respects - the geology, plant life, wildlife, and birds distinctly reflect Manitoulin’s uniqueness as the largest freshwater island in...well...the Universe!! Well, as far as we know ☀️! The Indigenous Nations on the island are vibrant communities, the origins of leaders in the arts, law, governance, activism, agriculture, environmentalism, robotics(!), and each hosts an awesome Pow-Wow throughout the summer months.
  • I spent a winter weekend on the island. Boo was a wonderful host. We had great conversation! Boo is very knowledgeable and helpful for tips on where to go. She allowed me to use her snowshoes and trek around the property. All around wonderful stay!

  • Boo is a very welcoming and friendly host. My stay was short but Boo made me feel like family.

  • Boo's place is amazing. We visited in early November, and Manitoulin was so quiet and peaceful. Boo is a lovely storyteller, a gracious host. We even shared a delicious meal together, talking about the local culture and ended up getting a few tips in the Ojibway languages. I can't recommend a visit to the Island enough, and Boo was the perfect host.

  • Boo has so much going on here! Organic gardens, dogs, a cat; an extremely warm atmosphere! She is so welcoming and friendly also. Thank you, Boo!

    Brett2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • Boo is a wonderful soul and person. She is a free spirit who is willing to share not only her unique spot in the world, but also her unique views. Her suggestions for sights to see on the Island were not only helpful, but they really made our stay much more enjoyable. She was a lovely host and I would happily stay there again. Her farm is unique and serene.

    Julianne2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Boo's place is quaint and feels like home. The real pride and joy of the home is Boo herself. We really enjoyed getting to know Boo and cuddling her dogs and cat. It was nice to walk around d her garden and labyrinth. There is a lovely restaurant right next door and it is an absolute must. Definitely want to gome back.

    Brittany2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Art Farm is a one of a kind experience, you will take away with you those things you need the most.

    Richard2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Boo's place is a warm, welcoming environment. Loved the hospitality, meeting her other guests, and especially her two wonderful dogs and cat!

It is an original tiny house before tiny houses grew in popularity. The cottage was built in 1973 and it has the infamous retro brown paneling, a throw back in time, it is comfortable, with direct private lake access steps from the cottage, great views of the lake from the cottage and beautiful sunsets. Enjoy the warmer waters of an in-land lake, and great fishing. Come and enjoy beautiful Mantoulin Island and one of its most beautiful lakes, Lake Mindemoya.
If you are looking for a place to enjoy a little time away this is a great space. It is small (393sq ft) but it has everything you will need and it is clean. Enjoy the sunsets from the cottage or down on the dock. The cottage has a back deck, where you can BBQ, and chairs to relax in.
Our place is close to a gas station, grocery store, pharmacy, hospital, restaurants, information center, laundromat, lake
  • Vannetta's place was a great rustic experience for our visit to Manitoulin. It's central location is perfect for exploring the sights of the island.

  • A beautiful little cabin right on the water Perfect for watching sunsets and stargazing at night. It was kinda cool out but it was nice and cozy with the heat on. Thanks for s great getaway.

  • Great spot on clean, clear lake with good swimming and great sunsets...

    Hugh2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • The place is fantastic exactly as described .It is centrally located in one of the busiest towns on the island .A thirty minute drive to some of the best beaches in other towns nearby and not to be missed only a seven minute drive to one of the best beach on the island in the town Mindemoya Itself. The cottage is rustic but very comfy and cosy .My kids and I enjoyed a dip in the lake which was just across the road as described . Vannetta is very prompt in responding to messages . We will definitely stay here again if we return to the island.

    Mario2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Said no more...we definitely will be back !

    Kiet2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • I've read most of the reviews and agree with most - it is a cottage and not a chic cabin! The pictures are exactly as shown and it is a perfect little cottage get-away with all the amenities you need to cook, sleep, shower, and enough island activities to please everyone's interests. Try the paddle boats (courtesy of Vannetta), visit Gore Bay and hike at the Cup & Saucer trails. Will come back for sure. Thanks Vannetta for making my stay a pleasant and comfortable experience.

  • Great spot to relax by the lake. The fire pit on the beach was amazing. Garry came out to help us get it going. We had a wonderful time!

    Heather2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Located on the rugged south end of Manitoulin Island, it is has easy access to a beach, a park, a fish sanctuary where you can see osprey's and eagles feed in great numbers. The bunkhouse itself is very clean and spacious, with two wood paneled rooms very comfortable. The washroom is modern and well appointed. The kitchen had everything we could ask for. There is a propane bbq available. The hosts Garry and Elaine (and LeRoy the dog and their two cats) are very welcoming and friendly. They were available every evening to answer questions about the property and about Manitoulin itself. Garry fed us some local fish and when he learnt that we were new to fishing and wanted to fish - took 5 of us fishing! Garry makes a wonderful tomato preserve/compote/chutney and I hope you can sample some of that. There were many other ways in which the hosts were remarkable - and I forget many details now. The wifi can be spotty but we were very happy to be disconnected. Highly recommended. We plan to return. Thank you.

    Gaurav2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful spot! The beach was perfect and only steps away from our sleeping quarters. Lovely large living space to lounge, dine and cook in the kitchen. The bedrooms and bathroom were lovely. Every room was spotless. Garry made us feel so welcome and even started up the fire in the beach side fire pit for us!

    Wendy2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Bunkhouse was way better than we expected. The beds are comfortable and the heating worked great making it a very comfortable stay. The highlight obviously is the beach. Garry was sweet enough to set up the firpit for us with ample chairs and extra logs for the night. the beach was secluded and private enough . We also used the paddleboard and cannoe available . It is an island so come prepared with ample food supplies. Nearest restaurants either close early or are a long drive from the bunkhouse. All in all a great trip . Thanks Garry and Elaine for your hospitality !

    Malvika2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Sparkling clean, wonderful hosts. Private beach and campfire on the beach !

    Carol2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • One of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to. It was the perfect location. The bedrooms are nice and the 2 beds in the common area are good for the kids.

    Michelle2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Our favourite aspect of the bunkhouse was the beach: beautiful, with gradual access perfect for kids. Garry thoughtfully assembled the fire pit for us, so that our kids could have s’mores each night. The bunkhouse was more or less as advertised. A bit no frills, but not unexpected and candidly great for families with young kids - less they can break! The main disappointment was the lack of wifi, but not a deal breaker. Overall a terrific experience, and Garry and Elaine were great hosts!

    Alison2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at the bunk house! It worked perfectly for our family, and had everything we needed. The beach there is absolutely beautiful! Garry and Eileen were wonderful hosts! We will be back.

  • Cindy’s cottages are wonderful, adjacent to the shore in a protected bay one can hear the waves lapping. Our cottage was clean, cozy, so quiet and private amongst a cedar grove. Lots of hot water for showers and a good cooking kitchen. I loved the unpretentiousness style - old school ascetics! good to get away from trending interiors and be real. The spacious back deck with picnic table and good bbq overlooked the water. Cindy’s hospitality and cottages are 5 star!

    Shoshonah2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and comfortable space. Peaceful location. Thanks Cindy!

  • We had a wonderful stay at Bears Inn, highly recommend! Cindy made us feel at home straight away and the cottages are perfectly cozy. Grounds are quiet and well maintained. Not far from the ferry terminal and a great base to explore the rest of Mantoulin Island.

    Matthew2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing experience!

    Sean2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • My family stayed at the Bears Inn cottage for two nights. The location is perfect for our first time visit to the Manitoulin Island. It is 10 mins drive from the Ferry Terminal and very close to Hwy 6 which links up to all other highways on the island. Our cottage (#6) is right by the lake. You can enjoy the view inside and outside on the deck with a BBQ. The beds and the pull-out couch are very comfortable. There is a lazy boy in the living room. The kitchen is well equipped. Bring your own shampoo and body wash. I would recommend staying at Cindy’s cottage.

  • Staying at Janet's cottage was a wonderful experience. It has a scenic view of the lake with access to a canoe. Janet was a warm host and welcomed us with fresh homemade bread and jam. She also had great recommendations on nearby trails to check out. Would definitely stay again.

    Archana2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Janet made us feel really welcome and the accommodation is in a beautiful and peaceful setting on the lake front. A canoe was available to take a trip on the lake where we enjoyed the spectacular sunset.

    Eric2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay very much! There is a beach steps from the cottage and we were able to use the canoe to explore the lake. It’s centrally located with easy access to shops, etc. The cottage itself is fully outfitted with everything you need for a holiday — kitchen, BBQ, firepit. Janet was a kind host and helped us to get the most out of our vacation on Manitoulin Island. We’d definitely recommend this location and Janet’s hospitality.

  • George is a fantastic host! Quick replies to all our questions, easy check in, cabin is exactly as described. Photos don't do the view from the cabin justice!

    Melanie2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • An awesome place to stay, so quiet and relaxing. A great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day. A fire in the evening was lovely, toasting marshmallows on sticks. The lake is so clear, and an amazing place to watch the sunrise in the morning is on the deck while drinking tea. Would definitely recommend staying here.

    Julie2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, quaint , and cozy. George was quick to respond to our messages and kept a lovely space with a stunning view

    Anita2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely love George’s cabin. It is so peaceful and relaxing! There are so many things we love about his cabin but just to name a few; the outdoor shower, the use of the kayak and the cooking fire pit are some of our favourites. We have made George’s cabin an annual getaway and we can’t wait to visit again!!!

    Rebecca2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • George's cottage was great! It was equipped with almost everything you could ever need for a comfortable and fun stay. The lake was beautiful in both the morning and night time. George was also very keen in communicating as his responses were very fast! I would definitely recommend staying here if you ever decide to visit manitoulin!

    Chula2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Our 3rd time here and we are never disappointed. Nice additions having the eggs and wood delivered before we arrived. Can’t beat that night sky and that magnificent view of the bay.

  • Perfect AirBnB! Tastefully decorated in a contemporary Western style with a large modern bathroom and a kitchenette which we gladly used more than we had anticipated. A good grocery store and other stores nearby and centrally located on the island. We even used the outdoor patio for lunch and enjoyed the surrounding fields. Kayaking is available just across the street on Lake Mindemoya. At one point, we had the whole big lake to ourselves. The hosts are very friendly. Thank you for the tour, Cheryl!

    Brigitte2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Cheryl and Ron were great hosts. The room was very clean and stocked. They went above and beyond. It was very bright and decorated beautifully. It really felt like a relaxing retreat.

Our place faces south fronting on Lake Huron with over 1 klm of shoreline! The log cabin, built from local pine logs in 1993, sits on its own 20-acre wooded lot, making it completely private. We are bordered by public beaches: Lonely Bay beach is one bay west and Providence Bay beach one bay east. You’ll love my place because of the complete quiet, sweet air, water view, stars and wildlife. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
This property is uniquely held as a conservation area. The log cabin is the only rental unit on the entire 100 acre lot. It sits on Dean's Bay, one of the least developed bays on Manitoulin with only 5 owners for the entire 1000 acres. We are listed with the Ontario Woodlot Association as part of Ontario's Managed Forest Plan. We are officially designated as a light-free pollution zone, making star-gazing a special treat. Our property has been family held for 30 years as an environmentally-friendly, recreational- use property. No hunting or harvesting has been allowed during our tenure. In the sping, this area boasts a multitude of wildflower varities including wild trilliums, iris, lillies, ladyslippers and orchids. We are surrounded by water systems. The southern border is Lake Huron, while to the north and east there is lake/swamp system called Sandy Lakes. The Grimesthorpe Creek runs into Lake Huron to the west. Our property is part of a 2 km wide buffer running along the shoreline. The forest cover on the property is comprised of mixed hardwoods and conifer stands. The hardwoods are primarily maple, poplar, birch and iron wood. The conifers are white pine, cedar, balsam fir and spruce. Our forest complex is an important area for Ontario's flora and fauna. Some endangered and species at risk live here. The following list, compiled under our Forestry Managment agreement, describes some of the mammals, birds and reptiles found on our property: Mammals: -White tailed deer - Odocoileus virginianus – Seen all year. In the summer they are seen on the trails, near the swamps and walking through the bush and near the cabin. In the winter they yard in the thick cedar areas. -Marten – Martes Americana - All year. Not seen very often, but there are seen tracks throughout the more dense forest areas. -Mink – Mustela vison - Spring, summer and fall. Seen around the swamp. -Beaver – Castor Canadensis – Many beavers inhabit the swamps and are rarely seen in the lake. -Red fox – Vulpes vulpes – Sometimes seen throughout the year, but their tracks are often found all over the property during the winter months. -Snowshoe hare – Lepus americanus - Can be seen all year, but mostly seen in the spring and fall when they are changing colours. -Skunk – Mephitis mephitis - Not seen very often, but we know they are there! -Red squirrels - Sciurus vulgaris – All year. Red squirrels are all over the property and can be seen flying through the trees or heard chattering in the bush. -Racoon - Procyon lotor- Seen in the summer and fall. Their tracks can be seen all over the forest, especially near the wetland. -Coyote – Canis latrans – All year. Coyotes are sometime heard ‘yipping’ in the distance. Their tracks can be seen in the winter on the packed down trails or along the lakeshore. With so acreage available, they shy away from populated areas. -Timber wolf – Canis lupus - Very elusive, and rarely seen running the trails. Birds: -Bald eagles – Haliaeetus leucocephalus - Spring, summer, fall and winter. Eagles fly along the shoreline. -Ruffed grouse - Bonasa umbellus – All seasons, mostly in spring, summer and fall. They can be heard in the spring, drumming, and are seen in the birch and poplar trees eating the buds. -Woodpecker species – (Pileated, Hairy, Downy) – All seasons. Can be heard tapping away in the forest looking for food, or laughing at us! -Song birds – Some species all year, but warblers and migrators only in the warm months Chickadees and blue jays are very common. -Waterfowl – Spring, summer and fall. Sand Hill cranes, Canadian Geese, Ducks and loons are most prominent in summer. Dean's Bay is a virtual nursery to all waterfowl in the spring. -Raptors – Spring, summer and fall. Red tailed hawk and the northern harrier are quite common in this area, along with shrikes and American kestrel. Often seen flying over the swamp area looking for food. -Turkey vultures – Cathartes aura - Spring, summer, fall. The vultures can be seen circling in the air currents. -Crows – Corvus brachyrhynchos and Ravens - Corvus corax – All year. Very common to see these birds in the area often roosting in a tree. They are often in groups of two or more. Amphibians/Reptiles -Leopard frogs, American toad, tree frog and spring peepers. – Spring and summer There is an abundance of leopard frogs near the swamp. Large tree frogs and the spring peepers are always heard after the snow melts. Toads are found in the bush in dryer areas. -Painted and snapping turtles – Seen in the summer months. Often noticed in the swamp sunning themselves on the logs. In the spring the painted turtles are seen moving around looking for places to lay their eggs. -Salamanders – Seen in the spring and summer while moving firewood.
Directions from the Ferry dock in South Baymouth: follow Highway 6 for approximately 5 kms. Turn left at the sign to Tehkummah via 10th Sideroad. As you approach Tehkummah turn left via Government Road to Providence Bay. At the Stop Sign in Providence Bay turn right on to the Highway 551, turn left at Sand Road, following it for 5 klm. • Great cottage in a serene spot on Lake Huron. Walking distance to quiet beaches. Perfect for those with dogs.

  • The cabin has a warmth and character all of its own. For a few nights we hosted a couple of friends from the city and had plenty of room. We were so grateful for the peace and quiet and the opportunity to watch the ever-changing lake with all its wildlife, but the location made it a quick drive to the local town for supplies and anywhere else we wanted to explore. Marc and Therese are very kind and thoughtful hosts. The experience was a total pleasure for everyone, including our dog! A big thanks to them!

    Lynne2019-07-02T00:00:00Z
  • For anyone looking for a cozy, quaint, perfect little log cabin getaway in the woods, this is the ideal place! The lake is literally 25 steps from the back door, and you are surrounded by nature’s beauty. Excellent hosts and accommodations. Very dog friendly. We wanted a break from the business of every day life and this cabin was the perfect retreat. Can’t wait to go back!!

  • One word: amazing! This beautiful cottage was “home” to our family of 6. We enjoyed the space very much. The property is big enough that we could all break off into small groups and sit at different areas. The beach is right across the street and is PERFECT! We loved this space and hope to call it “home” again soon.

    Conner2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • A super clean, comfortable, spacious cottage and yard. We had everything we needed. It is the best location on the Island for beach and boardwalk access. Chantal was very quick to respond. We look forward to returning.

  • My husband, 4 year old son and I had a beautiful holiday. It was perfect only being steps to the Providence Bay boardwalk and beach. We enjoyed morning walks to the local café and art gallery, The Mutchmor. the cottage itself was very spacious, the beds were extremely comfortable. The cottage had beautiful character, decorated with a collection of pieces adding coziness and charm. The dishwasher was an added bonus as were all of the other extras offered (towels, soaps, wifi, satellite tv, etc.) The yard around the cottage was gorgeous offering a park-like feel with a bridge, swing and lovely lock stone fire pit area, all immaculately kept. I would definitely recommend this cottage and we are looking forward to staying here again in the future! Merci Beaucoup!

    Jessica2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place and location! It is the best Airbnb I have ever stayed in. Chantal is an excellent host and quick with responses. Check in a super easy. The kitchen was well stocked for all the chefs in our group. Very clean. We will be returning again!!!

    CarolAnn2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the house. It was perfect for us (a group of cycling friends). Everything was there in the house to make the visit the best it could be. We all had private bathrooms. We cooked together and found everything we needed in the kitchen. We also used the grill and built fires outside a couple of times. We used the washer/dryer. The amount of space was just right for people who are not a family and might need/appreciate some separate space. We loved the island. It was easy to drive or cycle to the various places that we used to cycle from. We incorporated into our bike rides lunch at Maja's, visits to both Perivale GAllery and Neon Raven Gallery. We walked to dinner at the Schoolhouse and drove to dinner at Garden's Gate. All exceptional and memorable. We cycled in a rainstorm and were grateful to find our way to the general store in Spring Bay, where we rested and ate some lunch. I do believe we will be back, even though it is a 13 hr drive and no one in our area (Minnesota) has ever heard of it. But that will change with our visit!

This cottage has a spectacular view on the spacious deck and boat dock. Listen to the loons and watch the eagles soar over this magnificent lake. Crystal clear water to enjoy swimming and fishing or just lounge on the dock. Lake Manitou is the largest lake on the island and it offers great fishing for perch, bass, pike and lake trout.

  • Kelly was a great host! Kelly was very quick to answer questions and give us check-in instructions. The cottage appeared as advertised and was clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a relaxing and peaceful weekend. We comfortably slept 5 adults, and there was plenty of room to lounge around. The cottage is close to a few hiking trails, and we visited Bridal Veil Falls and Kagawong as an outing. I would rent this cottage again, and would recommend it! Thanks Kelly!

  • The cottage was so beautiful. It was cozy and sparkling clean! The deck that over looks the lake is spectacular! You could spend hours on there listening to the loons; talking in the morning over coffee or relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine. The hosts are the most inviting and friendly people, they make you feel right at home. We had a wonderful time here and highly recommend this place!!!!

  • It's a great place to stay, with a nice beach, fire pit and outdoor kitchen. The tipi is very comfortable with fluffy beds, a mini fridge and a coffee/tea table. My son enjoyed his time here - it's lovely for outdoorsy kids. Anong lives nearby and is a wonderful host, very thoughtful and generous. On our last night, when a strong storm hit, she suggested we move to a beautiful hotel and booked us a room there. Very kind of her. :)

  • Hard to find but well worth the search!! Beautiful location, great amenities (fridge and kettle!) and thoughtful touches - we were welcomed with drinks in the fridge, treats and snacks (which we unfortunately forgot about after going out to eat, but still so kind and thoughtful). Everything you need for a relaxing night away. We will be back!

    Megg2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great with quick responses and answering all my detailed questions. Many little touches to make it a very unique experience. I would suggest bringing a lighter as the matches provided were wet accidentally, bring extra blankets, kitchen tent or tarp if it rains and water shoes to go swimming. Only a couple of sections of rocks while you walk out into the water but I cut my foot on one of them. It’s a beautiful area and would definitely book again.

  • I highly recommend a stay on Givens Road with Brenda as your host. She thinks of everything, from fresh cut flowers, potted plants, and lots of homey touches. There was even a fire pit, plenty of wood, and neighbors, as well as Brenda, to help us enjoy our fire. South Baymouth is really a charming little town. I wouldn’t be surprised if Brenda recommended that they fly the US flag just for us!

  • If you are looking for a quiet place on the lovely Manitoulin Island, this is a great location. The room was beautiful, the bed is excellent and the bathroom is spacious, with a big bath tub for two. The breakfast, which is served in the room, is the best we had so far.

Unplugged and super-charged, our 'Expedition Hut is a 'tiny house' 1 of 3 unique cabins on a spectacular 40 acres of forest and south Lake Huron shoreline. Off-grid, rustic, and zen to reconnect with nature and yourself. Solar for charging and wifi if you have hotspot. All three cabins can be rented together for complete privacy. LOG CABIN https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/5568206 HEXAGON https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/20785083 EXPEDITION HUT https://www.airbnb.ca/rooms/25830140
Lined with silvered barnboard and with a spare but comfortable aesthetic, you can enjoy a cozy fire in the woodstove, spread out your expedition maps on the table and sleep to the music of frogs, geese, waves and deep silence with your door and windows open. We have set up a 'summer kitchen' in the open shed beside it for cooking and washup to leave more room inside hut. Bed is a double pullout couch which we've made more comfortable with a good mattress topper. Newly built deck now goes around back of cabin for greater privacy. front view is of land and water. back view is of forest. You share outdoor shower and firepits with other cabins but have your own outhouse.
Though the property is at the end of a cottage road, it feels like you are at the beginning of time when you arrive. Nearby is the beautiful Providence Bay sandbeach.
  • Jane's place is spectacular. If you like untamed places (that is without getting in a canoe or back country hiking) you won't do better than this. Truly a great find for those who want to literally "get away". I parked my truck for the three nights I was there, went on long walks, a long bike ride, cooked, knitted, played music and read, while enjoying everything from whitecaps and wind during a thunder storm, to near complete calm waters. Though this was my first stay at Jane's place, it was my dog's second and I think he appreciated this stay just as much as the first. I was lucky in that guests who were scheduled to arrive canceled, leaving just me on the first night and another couple who stayed in the Hexagon on the second and third night - so more space and privacy than what I expected. But even if the log cabin were to be occupied there's plenty of space for all. Highly recommended.

  • Fabulous spot for discovering the magic of Manitoulin. Nothing compares.

    Kim2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Jane's expedition hut was a real gem. The location is beautiful - just so picturesque and peaceful. I wish I could fall asleep and wake up to the sound of water lapping the shore everyday! The hut and amenities on site are basic and as listed which is absolutely sufficient. The proximity to the other properties on site is good - you have privacy but you can easily strike up a conversation. We brought our pup and he loved exploring the area. Would absolutely recommend! Thank you, Jane.

    Laura2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect place if you want to relax and have peaceful vacations, 100% connected with the nature. It is also a dog's heaven :) Mind played in the water for hours. I would definitely go again.

    Sophie2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • The property is exactly as described - a lovely, (mostly) off the grid, get away retreat to unwind and relax. Jane is lovely and responds to communications promptly. We rented the Log Cabin and Bunkie for 6 adults and 4 children ranging in ages from 2 to 13. There was room enough for all and everyone had a good time.

    Jennifer2019-07-05T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy space on the lake shared with 2 other cottages. Listing is accurate and host professional. Solar power was on the fritz but I did not mind. I would stay again.

    Jeremy2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you're seeking a quintessential lakefront stay, leaving hustle, bustle and crowds behind - look no further. Jane's property is beautiful and provides an incredible opportunity to simply unplug and commit yourself to nature and thought. The rustic and simple means left me renewed after only a short weekend. Highly recommend this property and will be returning myself soon!

    Brendan2019-06-16T00:00:00Z
  • truly a wonderful way to get away from the stress and traffic of city life and enjoy nature and all its beauty that it has to offer. the location is perfect, really makes you feel the outdoors, the sunset overlooking the water, the fire place in the hut and outside, the stars at night, and just being surrounded by wood architecture. Jane was a great host, the welcome guide was very helpful, we would highly recommend this airbnb for anyone who wants to get a taste of the outdoors and adventure!

  • Our family thoroughly enjoyed our stay for the second year in row. This home has everything, is spotless and well maintained. William is a fantastic host ensuring that all our expectations were met and then some. We really feel at home here and we plan to come back next year.

    Garret2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • William's cottage is a perfect retreat for families wishing to enjoy the lake and Manitoulin Island. Our family loved staying here. We really appreciated a previous post advising us to bring water shoes so that we could walk out over the rocks into the water. We could walk out the back door to the water, and swim, snorkel, and float to our hearts' content. It was like having our own private beach. The cottage was comfy and had everything we needed for a fun family stay.

  • We stayed at this cottage June 23-26th. Was a great place for the kids to spread out and unplug for a few days. We went on a few day trips - well worth it to go to the

  • We stayed for only 3 days at William's Cottage, the place is amazing so private and Natural setting let us relax and recharge. At the same time as our Tesla got a charge for the round trips around the Island. Special thanks to William to install the 30 Amp charging Plug for our EV. The next time we have an oversee visitors we will bring them here.

  • Quite and beautiful place in the middle of the island, walking distance from Mindemoya island. Very good place to rest from big cities (including television :) ). Exactly what we needed for long weekend.

  • Caravan located in the middle of a pretty and quiet garden. Delicate attention and availability of guests. Barbecue and fire of wood under the starry night. A few minutes walk from a pontoon where you can swim

    Ludovic Melanie2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Terry and Vicky's hospitality is outstanding! Though the trailer is a little older, it is in very good shape. It sleeps up to 8...we had three adults, two teenagers, and a toddler in there . Again, it is close quarters, but, with all there is to do on the island, you shouldn't have to be cooped up in there for 24/7. There is a fire pit and a BBQ for a very quiet, private 'camping' experience. Very highly recommended.

  • We stayed at Tammy's cottage for the September long weekend and it was an absolutely incredible time. I cannot say enough about how great the location is. The cottage is located right at the edge of the water with a sparkling clean shoreline. The cottage itself was great and had everything we needed. Tammy was really helpful and there were tons of thoughtful touches throughout our stay like a bonfire ready to be lit when we wanted. Will definitely book again.

    Arpan2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Booking with Tammy has been the best traveling experience we’ve had! She is super quick to reply and always very very friendly and helpful. This cottage is at a extremely beautiful location and Tammy had made it a comfortable home for us for the week! Great experience and would totally recommend to anyone!

    Sibylle2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful space. Tammy was fabulous and made sure we had everything we needed. The house was sparkling, the lake was beautiful and we had lots of privacy. Definitely a five star!!!

    Jenni2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely week here. The house is perfect for those traveling with dogs. (I had no idea Manitoulin was so dog friendly but you can bring them on the ferry and to many local attractions). At the house, they had a dog tie out for the lawn, a water bowl and even a bed! Our dog was so happy watching the ducks swim by from the gated porch. He even enjoyed brief dips in the lake. The house is very spacious and comfortable. There is an easy to use BBQ and the kitchen is equipped with everything necessary to make great meals from fresh local produce (some great farmer's markets around - ask Tammy). Lots of plates, mugs, cutlery, spices. Everything is new. The stove is one of those new induction models that can boil a pot of water almost instantly! There were lots of towels - everything we needed was with in easy reach. The view of the lake is strikingly beautiful. In fact, the whole island is spectacular. The house feels very peaceful and isolated but the town of Mindemoya is a short drive and has a supermarket. If you are in Mindemoya, stop at Maja's and pick up some of he fresh baked bread!!! I would not hesitate to return here or to recommend this house to others. It was so easy to relax here and just enjoy the beauty of the area. A near perfect vacation spot.

    Beth2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was exactly what our family was hoping for. Clean & comfortable caught numerous bass off the dock. Tammy was a perfect host hands off & there when you needed her. Breakfast at Timberlane Resort on the Sunday morning is a must do! We have been renting for years and this was one of our top experiences. Loved it

    Rob2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • We were so lucky to come across Tammy's listing!! It was a last minute decision to book and there was not much selection in the area left to accomodate us but I can not imagine anything better! We were 2 families and there was MORE than enough room! Beds were comfortable and there was lots of sitting room. The "yard" over looking the lake provides lots of space for kids to play! But they spent most of their time jumping off the dock ;) i highly recommend water shoes for everyone. Tammys place litteraly has everything you will need! The location on the island is great because it is very central to all "attractions". Ws wish we could have stayed longer as 3 days was definitely not long enough!

    Amy2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • The host was lovely and check in and check out were easy. Amazing location on the lake. Overall, it was excellent value for the cost!

    Sherisse2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • Tammy is an excellent host. Great communication leading up to our stay and helpful with all and any questions that we had. Absolutely beautiful cottage on Lake Manitou. The hosts, Heidi and Serge, are very friendly and welcoming people. It was nice talking to them. They are very helpful and the communication was easy. The loft hugs you with its warmth from the moment you walk in the door. High-end amenities and well designed space will allow you to enjoy the peace of the island from the comfort of this tranquil get-away.
The Loft is one of our newer buildings, with in-floor heating and fully winterized. It's cozy. In the summer, enjoy your coffee on the deck with views of the lake from above. In the winter, heat up in the sauna and relax in front of the fireplace. It's a perfect get away or for longer-term stays.
You're in the wilderness, so expect to see animals. This is one of 8 cabins on the property, so you're bound to see other vacationers during the peak vacation months. Less so during the winter.

  • If you're looking for a cozy and modern lofted space than look no further. There are many comforts while staying including the sauna and fireplace if you're there in chillier months. The area is quiet and relaxing, a great place to stargaze and see sights. If your looking for a return to nature then this is the place for you as you will be willing to unplug and enjoy yourself. Kyra was very helpful and friendly during our stay, and the loft thoughtfully provides every amenity that you could think of including an appliance stocked kitchen and dishes, you only need to bring food. All in all I will be returning to the island and this will be the first place I will look to stay in when that day comes. :)

  • Camp Mary Anne is as amazing as it’s pictures- and there is a sauna- something I didn’t realise on booking!! Be prepared to unplug as there isn’t really any internet- but that was what we were after! Beautiful positioning the little town of Mindemoya was very close for food shops etc. Would highly recommend.

The Blue House is a Century home surrounded by flowers, green pastures and cedar forests, nestled in a quaint village. Formerly home to one of the last Bell telephone switchboards in Canada (the board itself is now in a local museum), 'The Blue House' has history and charm galore, on top of every modern amenity you require to make your trip memorable. As your host I will do whatever I can to ensure you enjoy your stay on this unique and beautiful island. Safe travels!
A BIT OF HISTORY… The Blue House was built by an American émigré in the early 20th century. His background before arriving to Manitoulin Island is mysterious and rumour has it he buried a handgun somewhere on the property. If you find it, it's yours! Thirteen babies were born and raised in the house. Old timers speak of the Blue House being a hub of activity in the community with dozens of local children gathering there every day. The town of Tehkummah, established in 1866, is named after its founder, an Indigenous man named Louis Tekoma (b. Manitowaning). YOUR TRIP ADVISOR: I can give you excellent advice about Manitoulin Island and what activities and adventures might best be suited to your needs. I'll provide brochures and a guide book that lists things to do and places you won't want to miss, and I'll also provide my cell phone number so you can call me if you have any questions at all. I'm here at your disposal to ensure you have the best vacation possible. YOUR VACATION HOME: The Blue House has a sprawling main floor with 1 bedroom (Queen bed), spacious living room and family room (which can also serve as a bedroom) with access to back deck and fenced in dog yard, full bathroom and kitchen. The upper story has spacious master bedroom with King size bed, your own cupboard and dresser spaces, roomy spare bedroom with double bed and single cot. A couch in the family room and a portable cot provide extra sleeping space for larger groups. BACKYARD: A fire pit in the backyard is available, campfire wood provided. Propane barbecue, large picnic table with chairs, spacious deck shaded by a giant maple tree. The backyard is half an acre with many trees, raspberry bushes, and flowering gardens. WHAT'S COOKING: Fully stocked kitchen for the discerning Chef: Plenty of counter space, large main fridge and smaller bar fridge, Lagostini brand pots and pans, Sabatier knives (kept sharp!), garlic press, coffee and espresso makers, 'milk frother' for cappuccinos and frappes, panini press, woks, salt and pepper grinders (stocked full), double sink. OTHER AMENITIES, GAMES, ETC.: 51-inch TV with surround sound (plus Netflix for guests), Bose sound system, high speed Wifi, a piano (tuned), guitar, and djembe drum for music nights! A/C units and fans on both floors, woodstove in parlour (wood provided) and propane gas fireplace in family room, plenty of board games, colouring books and supplies for children, and other games and a variety of great books to entertain on rainy days (much as we hope you have all sunny weather!). THE VILLAGE OF TEHKUMMAH: Conveniently located close to the ferry docks at South Bay Mouth and easy driving or biking distance to the island's best beaches, Tehkummah is nestled among farms and cedar forests, bordered on one side by the Blue Jay Creek and on the other by the Manitou River. A short walk from the Blue House is R.A. Ward & Sons General Store, a vintage general store that has been in business since 1922. Ward's has anything and everything you can imagine, from milk and fresh local eggs to homemade (and delicious!) caramel corn, an LCBO outlet, Maple ice cream made by the island's own Farquhar's Dairy, and many other delights. Down the road is the Tehkummah Town Hall where the Farmer's Market is on display every Friday all summer long. There you'll find locally grown produce, and many handmade arts and crafts. Just down the same road is the Amish bakery with homemade breads, pies, cookies and cakes as well as local jams, honey and maple syrup. Tehkummah also boasts a fine dining restaurant called "Garden's Gate" and a breakfast/lunch eatery called "Garden's Shed". WINTER TRIPS: If you like cross country skiing, snowshoeing, or ice fishing, the island is one of the most beautiful winter destinations you can find. Although I (your host) live in the house during the winter, there are two bedrooms upstairs and a mini-kitchen set up for the convenience of guests who want to book during the winter. The bathroom is shared and you can still use the main kitchen when you wish, and there will be at least one friendly dog on the premises (possibly 2) - in addition to your host (me!). For this reason the price per night is very low indeed. There is a wood stove, oil furnace, and a propane insert in a fieldstone fireplace to keep you warm as well as an outdoor fire pit. In addition, there are several hockey sticks and other equipment for playing street hockey or 'broom ball' - a local winter favourite. Nearby there are fabulous trails for cross country skiing as well as skating rinks in all the major towns.
Tehkummah is the lushest area of the island and therefore the farming hub. The village itself is small and quaint, and all around it are farmer's fields and forests. It's extremely conveniently located, in between various sightseeing destinations and vacation stops, all of which are accessible by bicycle or car. Also only a few minutes from the ferry (to Tobermory). Many local Amish means you'll see horse drawn buggies here and there, plus they sell their goodies at the weekly Farmer's Market in Tehkummah and out of their homes around the village (breads, jams, maple syrup, fresh eggs, tarts, and pies).
  • This house was so beautiful! Beth was a great host and returned my messages within a timely manner. The locals were friendly and sites were beautiful. I recommend watching the sunset at providence bay along the beach.

  • We loved our stay at the Blue House. Beth was an excellent host and made sure we had everything we needed. The house was spacious yet cozy, with many charming touches. The central location made it easy to explore the island. We hope to stay at this gem next year!

  • Beth's home is a special place to visit this special Island! Not only was Beth's hospitality top notch - her living space was spacious and warm and intriguing and creative. Perfect space for introspection, creativity, joy with loved ones, island exploration. Wonderful floral smells, wild thyme, little birdies at the feeder, all encompassed in creature comforts and the unique space of the historic Blue House. Come to relax, create, reflect and love. We did all of these things and it was the best vacay ever.

  • The Blue House was the perfect place for our family as we explored Manitoulin Island. Everything was as advertised yet somehow the house and host exceeded expectations. The house was so comfortable and there wasn't an amenity missing. We enjoyed watching the birds in the morning and thanks to the weather we got to enjoy the entire property - eating dinner on the spacious back deck. It was a wonderful part of our vacation. Thank you Beth for sharing this amazing property.

  • The Blue House feels like returning to a grandparents' summer cottage, even when having just arrived for the first time. From the enjoyment of watching yellow finches while at the breakfast table to the well thought out supplies (e.g. kitchen equipment), our stay had a nice balance between whimsy and practicality. The space was comfortable for the five adults to spread out between indoor (e.g. two family rooms) and outdoor (e.g. back deck) spaces. Meanwhile, the location made it easy to visit various areas around the island; while Beth's tips and resources were valuable on deciding where to go next. An enjoyable family trip to a lovely spot.

  • Beth's house is old, but adorable and very spacious. The backyard is also very comfortable with a deck and a fire pit area surrounded by greenery. Beth was a very helpful host and I would love to rent the airbnb again next summer.

  • This was the perfect Autumn vacation spot for our family. Wonderful little cottage!

  • Small clean cabin with 2 bedroom 4 bed with linens and towels included. Nees some outside updating but nothing that bothered us. Able to use A/C and heat as we got a cold night which was nice. Small TV with DVDs for rainy day. Dock across the road where people speed so watch kids but nothing host can do about. Or short walk to right for a small beach. Bring swim shoes and it's super shallow great for kids. Had some bikes and kayak there for us to use which was nice . Got to use playpen for infant and some toys there too for our 3 year old. Very accommodating and super fast response time. Enjoyed our stay!

This cosy cabin on the water has all the essentials, yet with none of the stress. You are directly on the water and have no visible neighbors. The view from the cabin is looking due east, giving AMAZING sunrises. Being on the calm side of the bay, the afternoons are awesome for lounging in the sun. In the evening, you can make a fire inside, or enjoy the stars around the large camp fire outside. Come and find your peace with us on the shore of Lake Huron. Have a look at our Weekly Discounts.
You have full access to the building when staying with us.
  • Our family immensely enjoyed our stay at Papas Cottage. The cottage was fully equipped with all the necessities. The bedding and mattresses were of quality and comfortable. It was spotless but rustically authentic. The location is private and breathtaking, especially for the morning sunrise. We felt very privileged to bring our 1 yr old boxer who also enjoyed all the nature around us.

    Sheila2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Very quaint and cozy cottage with the view of amazing sunrises right outside the front door. Ben was so helpful and accommodating as was Ben's uncle, Blair. We had a very positive experience and would definitely stay again on any future trips to Manitoulin.

  • Recently spent a few days in this perfect, secluded cabin. Just a minute drive from the beautiful Providence Bay beach, but felt a million miles away from people. The cabin was very comfortable, had every supply on hand you could need. The view was spectacular and falling asleep to the sound of the waves was so relaxing. This was our first air bnb experience and we were not let down. We are already looking forward to booking several stays in 2019. It really gave us the break from it all that we needed, the price was great, the host very accommodating to allow us to stay later on check out day. When we locked the door upon leaving we both said we wished we could stay another week. Thank you Ben for allowing us a few days sanctuary in the beautiful surroundings at the cabin. Your grandfather stopping by to greet us and tell us some island history was so thoughtful and he was a total charmer!

  • This is Cottage living at its finest. If you are looking for a quiet secluded cottage on the lake, with an A+ Location and the scenery that bar none, then this is the place. The seclusion and the quiet are what I enjoyed the most. The cottage was well appointed and had enough conveniences to make our stay trouble free. The cottage is a 5 min drive to the beach and playground, in Providence Bay itself is a community based on lake living. You closest grocery store is 15 minutes away and you can get most things from there. The location is great for day trips and ventures. We drove to almost every lake and river and we were mere minutes from the cottage. If you are looking for a nice place to watch the sun rise in the morning and enjoy the lake breezes all day, I would highly recommend this place.

  • The Poppa Cottage is located on the Lake Huron, very close to the Providence Bay Beach. We really appreciated the quietness, fresh air and the picturesque views of the lake right from the patio chairs while having breakfast in front of the cottage. Ben, our host, has made arrangements to make our stay very pleasant and convenient. By the time we arrived everything was already prepared for us in the fire pit to start fire and BBQ. I especially liked the design of the fire pit with an oscillating grill, which makes BBQing really easy. The cottage itself was clean and had all the essentials we needed during our stay. We had a perfect getaway and feel relaxed and refreshed after staying there for two nights. We would surely come to Poppa Cottage again and recommend it to our friends.

  • Poppa's cottage was the ideal get away. We arrived very late, but it was super easy to unlock the place an settle in. Amazing view to wake up to, and to sit round the fire to in the evening. Being able to get in to the water straight from the front door was a highlight! Well stocked kitchen and comfy bunk beds. Great!
