Our cabin is warm and cosy. Enjoy the space, help yourself to veg from the garden, feed the farm animals, collect the eggs and explore all our area has to offer
We are in the heart of the countryside but within walking distance of the town. The cabin is accessed via a raised walkway over the vegetable garden and nestled neatly under mature beech trees. The cabin is on our small farm which you are free to explore, experience and enjoy. The area is a slightly off the beaten track hidden gem. You could use your time here to explore Lough Key Forest Park, the town of Boyle, Boyle Abbey, King House and Drummanone Dolmen. You could visit the majestic Carrowkeel passage tombs and delve into the caves of Keash. Try walking around some of the lesser known lakes and woodlands e.g. Clontykilla woods and cycling a myriad of country lanes. See if you can catch some fish on the nearby Boyle river or Lough Gara. Spend your evenings snuggled in the cabin with some local literature or head to Boyle for something to eat and a few pints. For those wanting very lively nightlife Carrick on Shannon is 12 km away
This is an area with hidden gems waiting to be discovered. We love our interactions with the animals, the peaceful lakes, rivers and hills and our friends and neighbours. A quiet pint in town with a good meal and chat is a simple pleasure. A rich historical tapestry from passage tombs to hidden abbeys to grand mansions continues to stimulate.
  • This was my second time at the Hideaway - the welcome was even warmer this time and I had a great stay. John's recommendations for the area (including the Caves at Keash and the Carrowkeel passage tombs) were spot on. Highly recommended!

  • Right on the farm, also very private! Everything lovely and clean and only a few minutes away from the town, would recommend!

  • John and his family made us feel very welcome in their beautiful pod. He took time to explain all of the local points of interest and made sure we were comfortable. The pod is cosy, well furnished and in a lovely location. Definitely recommend!

  • Don’t let the size fool you, you’ll have EVERYTHING you need at the hideaway! This was the first Airbnb that I personally felt as comfortable as I do at home. Boyle had the best food in Ireland and it was the most affordable as well. If you want a host that has a well planned out selection of things to do, this is where your heart will be!

  • Spent a nice Valentine's weekeend in this cozy cabin during storm Dennis. Great place, great host, and completely warm! Also, since we didn't have a car the hosts came to pick up and drop us at the train station. Thanks John!

  • Really enjoyed the location, the reception and the cabin. I'll recommend the experience to anyone and everyone..

  • John's accommodation loved it. The indications to the place were very precise. The cabin is very cozy and John and his family are very hospitable. Everything was spotless and they even left us some homemade snacks. 100% recommendable.

If you want to experience staying in a property that is bursting with history then this is the place for you and your friends or family. Rookwood Gate Lodge is an 18th Century building that my family bought in 1980 and modernised over the years.
If you are looking for a fancy accommodation with room service etc then unfortunately we can't help! If you are looking for an experience then we can. Our 18th century gate lodge was, as the name suggests, where the gatekeepers of the famous Rookwood Estate lived. The main entrance of the estate is directly across the road from the lodge and the gatekeepers would open and close the gates for various visitors and nobles. Purchased in 1980 we have put enormous work in to not only making it a comfortable and quaint cottage but we have also maintained the character and essence of this Gate Lodge. It is the perfect place to explore the Midlands and West of Ireland and retire in the evening to a beautiful open fire and a glass a wine! And don't be deceived by the outside image of the lodge. It is much more roomy in the inside than it appears.
Rookwood is a scenic townland approximately 1.5 miles from Athleague village. It is a beautiful area for walking and cycling and the perfect spot to chill out and just get away from all the hussle and bustle of everyday life. Located 7 miles from Roscommon Town and 40 miles from Galway City is an ideal location for exploring the Midlands and West of Ireland. Even a day trip to the Capital is easy peasy!
  • Cosy and quaint house in a very quiet, rural location on the outskirts of the village of Athleague. Possible to walk into the town in about 20 minutes or so. Especially loved the sitting room with its open peat fire.

    Simon2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice little cottage. Very cosy with more than enough room. To escape the city I would highly recommend it

    Julian2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to relax

    Nigel2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is very special, it is like a stay in the past. You must like old furniture and old-fashioned style (we did). It is in a quiet and awesome surrounding area. You must know that it is about 1 hour to Galway, 1.5 hours to Westport. It is really worth to stay there.

    Alexandra2019-05-17T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible value and comfortable gem. It was our 2nd time enjoying the gate house and Mary’s hospitality. Can’t wait to return again soon! Feels like home to us.

    Angela2019-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • We just loved this place. Mary showed us around and even got the peat fire going for us .. what a treat that was . A quiet location. We slept so well. Great advice on where to visit especially as we had so little time.

    Julie2018-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Expect to be warmly greeted, treated with respect and importance. As this is an 18th century historic property, there are some amenities that may not be available such as air conditioning, but the gate house is clean, comfortable and wasn’t too warm at any point during our stay. We did have quite a bit of traveling to do and found it a bit of a drive to reach some destinations but there are larger towns and cities within 20-30 min drive. Car rental recommended.

    Angie2018-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had 6 people 3 adults and 3 children house was fantastic. Spacious enough for us all. The comfort in the house was amazing and we really loved place. Would highly recommend. If we are back that way would definitely book again. Price is very reasonable also. The house is really old and we loved that about it. Hosts were lovely and kind.

  • Connor’s Retreat is a wonderful space to unplug, relax and get to know the real Ireland. Not the tourist stops, but what it is to live simply and warmly. Highly recommend the cottage - a lovingly rebuilt classic style country cottage. Marion and Andy are wonderful hosts and made sure my stay was comfortable and supplied basic breakfast and cooking goodies to help get settled. The compost toilet is cool. Yes, cool. If you’ve never used one - don’t worry they’re cleverly designed, odorless and so eco friendly! The location is amazing for star gazing if you get a nice clear night. Also Roscommon is a lovely area to explore. There are castles, bogs, parks and museums within a close drive. All around highly recommended!

    Ana2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed three nights at Connors Retreat in July. Marion was unable to meet me but Andy was there to welcome me and tell me how to operate the range which turned out to be quite easy. The cottage is very comfortable and in a lovely rural location at the end of a boreen. Roscommon with its 13th century Norman castle and Rathcroghan which is associated with Maeve and the Táin Bó Cúailnge are nearby. Connors Retreat is a great place to relax and unwind.

    Anne2019-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect step back in time. If you can take the time to spend off the grid, this is the spot to do it. Just lovely.

    Diza2019-05-30T00:00:00Z
  • Marion and Andy's cottage is a beautiful countryside retreat in a very quiet location, yet only 15 minutes drive from Roscommon town. I'd a really enjoyable and peaceful weekend without any TV or internet - it was so nice to completely switch off for a few days. Andy met me when I checked in and showed me the workings of the range and the compost toilet, both of which were easy to operate and get used to. I'd thoroughly recommend this unique cottage to anyone looking for a quiet and peaceful break away in an under-appreciated part of Ireland.

    Ronan2018-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • at marion, you will find kindness, availability, responsiveness the cottage is simple, original, but warm, great location if you like the countryside we discovered differences with France, but it is part of the discovery of the country, we left delighted with this stay

    Armande2018-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • We had a beautiful few days out in the wilds! The cottage is a bit wild! Using the range is a wonderful experience and the surroundings are idyllic. The hosts were extremely attentive and we had an excellent stay

    Louise2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • My wife Tara, daughter Niamh & I had a wonderful time at Connors Retreat. It's a lovingly restored stone cottage with period details & pride of place goes to the solid fuel range - powered by local turf. We cooked some lovely meals on it & helped us slow down & relax. The cottage is deep in the countryside with great views & surrounded by dairy cows which are daughter loved. Lots to do in the area all an easy drive away: Strokestown House; Lough Ree; Rindoon; Lough Key Forest Park etc. Marion was away but Andy could not have been a better host and we even got some tomatoes from the greehouse! Highly, highly recommended.

  • Marie's cottage was a great place to relax in the Irish countryside, not far from Roscommon Town, Strokestown, and Castlerea. Marie greeted us warmly, made sure we were settled in with a nice fire, and messaged to see if we needed anything. The kitchen worked out great as we always like to cook for ourselves and it had everything we needed. Keep in mind there is no wi-fi so I picked up a vodafone SIM and tethered to my phone while here. We will see you again and recommend your place to family and friends when they visit the area.

    Chris2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • It is hosts like Marie that make your experience in Ireland truly memorable. The cottage is absolutely amazing. It was cold outside but the cottage was very warm and cosy, we spent the evening close to the stove enjoying the amazing smell of turf. The beds and pillows were so comfortable that we had one of our best nights of sleep. We had fresh delicious breads and scones for breakfast. Could not recommended the place enough, THANKS AGAIN MARIE! xxxx

  • Little piece of heaven with us. Quiet, tranquil place. Great for walks. Very stylish cottage.

    Alan2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful place to ring in the new year.... From beginning to end our trip was wonderful. Marie is the nicest lady you will meet she went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time recommending places to go etc. When we arrived she left some lovely home made bread and scones which were delicious some milk and butter was also in the fridge tea coffee sugar and cereals. She also had the stove lighting for us which made the cottage so warm and welcoming. We were a party of 2 adults and 2 kids our children adored this place and were so sad to leave the bedroom is a good size room and then there is a pull out sofa bed in the sitting room which was very comfortable. There is everything you will need in the cottage and our host even supplied us with more turf for the fire. We had the pleasure of meeting Marie’s husband Tom who is also a gent. The cottage is out of the town on a lovely lane which we went for a walk up it was so nice and we did not see one car come up the lane which makes it so safe for children we made sure they knew where they could play and where was out of boundaries it was exactly what we were looking for a little break in the country side with peace and quite and not far from lovely restaurants and walks to name a couple we went to Loughminane park and moate park which was recommended to us by Marie. We will defiantly be back in the summer to explore some more of the lovely places this part of the country has to offer. Thank you so much Marie for our lovely stay xx

    Aine2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is nicely decorated and when we arrived, Marie had the turf fire burning which was a very warm welcome. Everything was very well thought out, clean, comfortable, spacious and modern. Marie is very helpful, friendly and responded quickly any questions we had. If you want peace and quiet away from it all, than I strongly recommend you stay here.

Cosy 2 bedroom apartment located right in the middle of the historic heritage town of Athenry. Located right beside the "North gate" built 800 years ago and with wonderful views of a medieval church, your sure to enjoy and remember your stay☺☺☺
Cosy, centrally located, great views and all the necessary amenities. We will do our best to make your stay as comfortable as possible☺
Athenry is a great town for a visit as it has a vast amount of historical structures, from its castle, medieval church, Dominican Abbey, not to mention it has the largest Norman town wall still intact in Ireland which was built in 1211. It also has a number of small bars and restaurants, one of which is a craft beer pub which is situated very near the apartment, it serves a variety of beers and stouts from small breweries around Ireland and a variety of European beers which all taste great. Athenry is very well served by public transport and has many trains and buses travelling daily to the nearby city of Galway and also to Dublin.
  • The apartment is comfortable, very clean, has the necessary to spend pleasant days. The city is very graceful, and the hospitality of Caroline and Paul were great

    Aimee2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here rather than driving into Galway for the night, and so glad we did! The place is so comfortable and cozy, with incredible views of the old church and within walking distance of historical sites, which we took advantage of the morning before we left. Very quiet and comfortable, with everything we needed, including free parking!

  • This cottage is absolutely beautiful. Noel had the fire lit for us when we arrived and a basket of logs and firefighters for us to keep it going. The view of the lake from the house is stunning. I highly recommend a stay here, we had a wonderful break and hope to be back again.

  • great hosts and a beautiful house out in the country side. highly recommend it

    Niko2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Herd House is a magical place. Out in the country, it can get almost perfectly silent, other than an occasional cow chiming in. On a clear night, the stars can't be beat. Truly spectacular. During the colder days of our stay, we had to build a fire to heat up the house. While it took a couple tries for us to master, it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the experience. Clean, spacious, and a perfect place to slow down. We loved every minute at this place. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a rural Irish getaway.

    Grace2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • The house is outstanding and Noel very kind. It is located in middle of nowhere in front of a lake and if you want to spend a good and confortable stay it is a perfect house. For a family it is just perfect and well located : not so far from Sligo and Connemara. We keep the address for a future trip in Ireland

    Jonathan2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice house in a lovely location. We'd have liked more time to relax there but we had a busy weekend. In particular it would have been nice to light the wood-burner and spend a warm evening in. The bed was particularly cosy and comfortable, which was great when getting to bed at 4 a.m! The local roads are quiet and nice for strolling. Would definitely return.

There was wine and chocolates upon our arrival to celebrate our anniversary and they gave us the perfect advice on what to do in the area! Everything was spotless clean and more than comfortable! We will definitely be back in the future!

  • We spent 2 nights in this beautiful hut, it was a relaxing weekend. The hut exceeded our expectations, it is clean, spacious and has a beautiful surrounding. Harriet and Brendan were very kind to us. We are definitely coming back again.

    Saja2019-09-03T00:00:00Z
  • We got to Harriet's place and were given a bit of time to settle in before being met by Breandán who give us a tour and informed us of were to go to eat if we wanted. He then left us to ourselves but said that he was at the end of the phone if we needed anything. It was such a relaxing weekend and we were not in need of anything. We have already spoken about how we would love to stay again and for longer!

  • This little cabin pod was exactly as described. My partner and I had a long day and forgot to book anywhere for that night while travelling, fortunately at very short notice Ann was kind enough to put us up. What a gem. Very clean, some local guide booklets and some little goodies were much appreciated. Very warm and cosy, just what was needed. Thank you

  • I booked this Airbnb as a present for my partner for Christmas both Ray and Cathy were brilliant to deal and so helpful. The cottage was so beautiful and so warm and cosy. The night we booked storm Jorge hit and we had a lovely night stuck in the cottage with a big fire and lots of food and drinks till the storm passed. The little touches and beautiful layout can't wait to return. The hosts could not do enough for us and were so helpful

    Alice2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Ray and Cathy were kind enough to lit the fireplace so the house was nice and warm when we got there. The entire place was very welcoming and the bar in the corner just gave it that little extra touch that you can't get in many places. We couldn't have found a better place to spend our night while we were visiting Sligo and Galway. Next time I go to that area I'll definitely look and see if it is available.

  • This was a awesome stay! A little off the beaten path but that’s our style! Couldn’t have asked for a cooler place. Movies, bar, turf fire and great accommodations!!

    Alex2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • An absolute gem. By far the best Airbnb we’ve stayed in. All the extra touches and of course the bar! Ray welcomed us and had the fire roaring, a welcome sight in the middle of the storm. The place was spotless and had everything we needed. Highly recommend for a night or two of relaxation and peace. Will definitely be back soon.

  • A very quiet location. No wifi, good or bad depending on your POV. Lovely hosts, two lovely dogs, fresh air and not far from anything but feeling a million miles away from everything. Loved the homely feel and the historical hangings and of course that home bar....what a treat! Recommend!

  • This was this highlight of our trip. Loved the small town setting and had an amazing time at the attached pub. Locals are amazing and Sinead is the best! So much space to stretch out and very comfortable. When we visit Ireland again we will stay here again for sure!

    Shannon2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Sinéad was a wonderful host. Right from the start, she made us feel welcome with a nice note, a box of chocolates, and everything we needed to make a nice cup of tea! There was even a very helpful folder containing information about the apartment and local area. This was the perfect central location for our planned daily road trips to various parts of Ireland, and it was great to have a place that felt like home to go to at the end of the day!

    Caitlin2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely stay - couldn't be happier with our experience! The rooms were spacious and clean. The heat and hot water worked very well. The location is excellent for exploring the sometimes under-appreciated midlands of Ireland. I highly recommend this location. Thank you, Sinéad!

Grainne was so nice to us and made us feel welcome. I would definitely recommend it as a place to stay. Our six month old had ample space to crawl around and Sadie our dog loved the forest walks nearby as well. Thanks again. Brendan & Maire

  • A lovely spacious rural setting in a central location. Very clean and tidy with everything you need for a relaxing stay. Simon was very helpful when I asked him about where to park on a visit to Dublin and Simons mum welcomed us when we arrived. They own the local farm which produces quality meats which we sampled on the bbq, it was delicious. We had a wonderful time exploring Ireland and would definitely recommend.

Beautiful custom-built wooden yurt 4 miles from Athlone town and right beside Lough Ree. Unique, peaceful space, perfect for a quiet retreat.
This building was entirely hand-crafted out of hand-cut wood, and it's a work of art. The photos I've posted don't do it justice. Aside from being beautiful and one-of-a-kind, it's comfortable. There is a woodstove that keeps it very cozy and warm. There's a very soft double bed, and an extra person can also be accommodated on a fold-out floor-bed. Electricity is supplied, along with basic kitchen facilities (mini-fridge, kettle, toaster, mini-oven and hotplate). There's a lovely eco-toilet cabin for your use right next door. I don't allow dogs because I have chickens, ducks and cats living here; it's a bit of a mini-farm. You're welcome to hang out with them, they're great fun! There is also a fire-pit, so you can have a fire and barbeque if you like. (I charge 5 euro for wood if you need it). And Lough Ree is right at your doorstep. Please be advised, I live in a suburban area and the yurt is in my back garden. So it's not really in a wilderness area, but it is very quiet and private.
We're close to the geographical center of Ireland, just 7 km from Athlone and 26 km from Roscommon town. Rindoon Castle and St John's Wood, both lovely walks, are about 13 km away, and Hodson Bay and Baysports are just around the corner. Lough Ree is right at the doorstep.

  • The accommodation in Geevagh is absolutely stunning. It is well decorated , warm and comfortable. The view would have been amazing if the Irish weather hadn't seen fot to obscure it with mist :-) The location is rural/remote, but is perfect for anyone wanting to explore the Sligo/Leitrim area. It's a 15 minute drive to Castle Dargan Estate/ Hotel and about the same to Dromahaire (in Co. Leitrim). Eamonn was a perfect host. He answered all my questions promptly and had the fire lit and the Christmas ligts on when we arrived.....which was a lovely touch, as we arrived in the evening. The rooms are all big, so plenty of room for a family/group. If you need somewhere to stay in this area, do yourself a favour and contact Eamonn.....you won't be disappointed. I know I'll be doing that the next time I need to stay in the area.

A Traditionally Irish Thatched cottage in a peaceful rural setting... Close to local town of Ballaghdereen(4km) and Castlerea (12km). From the location ; guests are free to explore local sites which include Lough Key Forest Park, Angling Services, King House and Boyle Abbey...within a 20km distance. Other local interesting sites include Rathcroghan Visitor centre in Tulsk, Strokestown House&Famine museum, Arigna Mines. Knock airport is 25 mins drive away. Knock Shrine is 35mins drive.
The Thatched cottage has been in our family for over 100years... My Great Grandparents originally owned this property and my Grandmother and Mother were both born and raised here. In 1998 this property had completely delapidated...(a gable had fell in, and the galvanised roof had rusted and split)...the Thatch was gone.. The cottage was barely visible.. Encompassed by a crumbling garden wall and overgrown with foliage.. It was completely inhabitable. My parents re-built and restored the cottage back to it's original glory.. From video footage taken at this time and from my own personal experience and involvement in the latter stages..this was a long and arduous project..but a very interesting and memorable experience.. It was a very interesting project to follow long before one ever heard of or watched DIY SOS.. 60 minute DIY programmes.. Reality TV etc... The Actual Descendants who were born and raised here decades before were involved on a daily basis..Real life informants.. How it was when they lived here etc.. There was huge reminisense.. And many fond and funny tales from Long ago.. There was a great sense of camaderie amongst everyone too.. Those who worked here or merely popped in to monitor the progress on a daily basis.. Have a cup of tea and sandwich.. A chat about progress.. There was an huge sense of achievement...from relatives and neighbours in the area at that time.... Some modernisation had to take place in terms of bathrooms/kitchen facilities/central heating etc... It was re-thatched last year. It is of great sentimental value to Us as a family...and with great pride we offer you a quiet and peaceful spot from which to explore local leisure and historical sites.
The area is rural and quiet.. a farming area mostly... If you are seeking a peaceful, relaxing, remote, quiet location to chill out and perhaps enjoy a little birdsong..this property is ideal.
  • Great weekend despite the deluge of rain! Lovely wee cottage in a quiet part of the world. Actually loved the fact there’s no tv or internet! Great spot to unwind

  • I loved this charming cottage off the beaten path. I stayed here with my husband and one other traveler and it was perfect for us. The cottage has been completely renovated, very cute, and is sparkling clean. The owner is very attentive and answered all of our questions without delay. There is a lovely yard in back of the home that we loved as the weather was gorgeous so we sat outside a bit.

  • This thatched home was a fantastic find on airbnb. We absolutely loved it and so did the kids. They loved playing outside with the basketball hoop and football on the quiet road. It was such a peaceful location. Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The stoves in the house were lovely with the turf and briquettes all provided as well. A fantastic traditional Irish country home.

  • This is the place to stay in Athlone! Location is perfect, just around the corner from Athlone Castle and Sean’s Bar and a 10-15 min walk from the train station. Anthony and Vinny were great hosts, available for questions when needed. The room (and the B&B in general) has so much character, which is what makes it a wonderful alternative to a standard hotel. The room was incredibly clean and inviting and so spacious. I would absolutely without hesitation stay here again the next time I’m in Athlone.

  • Travelled with a group of 8 friends and a toddler to Albertine Lodge and it was a perfect stay. The location was very easy to find. The size of the house comfortably fit all of us and had all the facilities we needed. It was freezing outside but the house was extremely well heated. The hosts were very quick at replying to queries we had over the whole weekend. They even accommodated early check in and late check out as it suited the needs of some of the guests. Highly recommend. Thanks again Francis and Fiona!

  • We went here for an extended family weekend - 6 adults and 4 little kids. It was such a lovely stay. The house is perfectly laid out. Fiona and Francis were so attentive and responsive. Great value, great location, great hosts. Can’t recommend it enough

  • Great house with everything you could need. A lovely break for a bunch of friends.

    Ciaran2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is an amazing place to stay. My friends and I spent the weekend at Albertine Lodge, during Storm Ciera, and it couldnt have been more cosy and welcoming. Fiona and Francis made sure we were warm and the fire was well-stoked. It's a very beautiful, traditional home. The sort of place I've dreamed of all my life. I would recommend it highly.

  • We had a fabulous weekend get together with some friends here. Lovely house and areas, very nice owners and would (hope to) definitely come back.

    Sonia2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous house, spotlessly clean and loads of room. We got mini bus into Carrick for one night and were given great recommendations for restaurant and local pubs. Would definitely recommend the house and the fantastic hosts who were more than helpful. Thanks for a lovely stay!!

    Gillian2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The house is perfect. It is even bigger than we expected with loads of bedrooms and toilets, a very cosy sitting room, and a huge open kitchen/dining area. The location is really close to a few towns so you are near anything you might need. The best part about the experience was the hosts - they thought of absolutely everything (e.g. they had the fire on and kettle boiled for us when we arrived, they made books of suggestions for anything you could need), and were really easy to contact when needed. Overall, the cleanliness and attention to detail was on par with any hotel, but it was also a very cosy, homey space. Will definitely be back!

    Ailbhe2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Albertine Lodge was a beautiful home just 10 minutes away from the quaint town of Carrick-on-Shannon. We were a family of 7 so it provided everyone with their own rooms and plenty of room to hang out in as well. Lovely accommodations and very clean. Francis and Fiona left local goodies for us upon our arrival. Francis went above and beyond in providing us with suggestions of things to do in the area, as well as being readily available for any questions we had. We had an amazing time and only wish we could have stayed longer!

  • My friend and I stayed here only for one night, but o was it fantastic. Phenomenal couches where we sat and read by the fire for hours. Exceptional kitchen and bathroom amenities. Nicki really has thought of everything you could possibly need. We were sad to only stay one night here and would highly recommend it to anyone in the area. Getting to Shannon airport the next morning from here was very easy and this was a much better option than staying locally near the airport. We would highly recommend staying at Nicki's spot.

    Anna2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning stay, every single thing was thought of and the interior is so new and clean. We were absolutely delighted!

    Orlaith2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great relaxing stay at Nicki's place. Greeting with a warm welcome and some great info about the barn the before and after pictures. Lovely little touches of bread, milk, brown bread, butter. We brought down all our food and cooked and drank wine most nights in front of a warm turf fire with movies on a nice big tv, what more could you want. The bathtub you could sink into and a nice heated floor when you got out. You could hear a pin drop it was so quite and peaceful outside at night. There's loads of information available about the area for sightseeing. Would go back to this place in a heartbeat.

Dempsey's is a beautifully restored cottage in the countryside of Roscommon at the foot of Sliabh Bán. It lies a few miles from the market town of Strokestown and the picturesque Shannonside villages of Tarmonbarry and Laensboro. Lovely area for country walks, hiking, fishing cycling and boating. Just 90 minutes from Dublin it’s ideal for a quiet country getaway far from the madding crowd. There’s Fully equipped kitchen or lovely award winning restaurants and bars just a short drive away.
You get full run of this beautiful cottage which has three large bedrooms two bathrooms large open plan living room/kitchen with large conservatory attached (great for morning coffee). There’s also a utility room, two large hallways and walk-in wardrobes in two of the bedrooms. There’s a large half acre garden around the house and a great space out back for lounging about in or perhaps dining out.
The cottage is situated on a quiet country road surrounded by farm and bog land. It’s a the foot of Sliabh Bán the local mountain which is a great place for walks that will give you an overview of the locality. From up there you will see how close you are to the Shannon river which meanders through the area from Lanesboro to Tarmonbarry both charming villages with award winning restaurants and bars. Check out The Purple Onion and Keenan’s of Tarmonbarry. One of my favorite bars in the world is just 4.5 miles from the cottage, it’s called Beirne’s bar in Strokestown. Tell Bridie I said hello. The Royal canal ends its journey close to Tarmonbarry in a wee village called Clondra, definitely worth a visit and you can stroll along the canal for miles and miles. There’s a beautiful woodland walk in the grounds of Strokestown house which also houses the Irish Famine History Museum. Overall it’s a lovely safe area for walking, cycling, fishing and hiking.
  • The Dempsey Cottage is a feast for the senses...raspberries growing outside the backdoor...antiques...modern conveniences...comfy beds and blankets...cows and sheep across the way...access to night sky and quiet walks. Our group of five were very comfortable!

  • This country cottage offers pure tranquility and ultimate comfort. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone wanting to experience the Irish countryside with ultimate privacy. Charles and Kathleen were amazing hosts, the location is only a 12 minute drive to Carrick on Shannon and the cottage provides you with anything you need. Our only regret is that we didn’t book for longer to really take advantage of the area. We would most definitely re-book in the future and will be recommending the cottage to anyone we know who plans on passing through Roscommon.

Kathleen became a true friend to us in so many ways. The cottage is spotless. The 60 bulls in the pastures, all behind an electric fence, were so docile and nice to come home to. Their lowing and the baas of the sheep in a field beyond the trees, the sounds of the birds and the wind whipping across the fields. Those were the only sounds. Superb wifi (Netflix, email connection was better than any hotel we've been in). The kitchen is fully furnished, the hot water hot (although it's a high bathtub for showers), and although the cottage was built in 1830, the many ways to heat the house make it cozy in all temperatures. The beds are superb. Every night (and day) gave us the best sleep we had in years. The very clean "shed" with a big picture window was a perfect art studio, enabling us to make portraits of the magnificent, curious bulls. Carrick-on-Shannon is less than 15 minutes' drive where you can get everything, including laundry facilities and more wonderful restaurants than we could have visited in just a month. A short drive away is the Thatch Pub where we spent many cheerful evening hours when we wanted to stay up late (don't go before 9) and where the company of Gene and Louise and others was outstanding. Good craic! But Kathleen, oh what a lovely, kind, considerate, interesting lady. If you want a piece of Irish heaven and simplicity and rejuvenating quiet, this is the place. We already miss it.

  • Great value accomodation. Stephen's responses to my questions were quick and helpful, check-in easy, the room spacious and warm - and and both, ensuite and room sparkling clean.

  • Great stay here - hosts are extremely accommodating, friendly and helpful. I needed to check-in early due to illness and hosts did everything to accommodate me, both at the time and the following morning. Rooms are just above the bar and there's a separate entrance so no dramas getting in and out. Might want to bring earplugs if it's a room next to the main road, though it's not a busy road. I've stayed in two different rooms now (on two trips) and both were extremely clean, warm and very spacious. Location was perfect for me as I was working nearby. Excellent value for money, I will be staying here again!

The apt is located on the left of the main cover photo and is attached to our house with its own entrance private parking where you can relax and experience a bucolic atmosphere in woodland setting and enjoy very beautiful gardens and let yourself totally unwind and watch the boats go by. This apt is ideal for families with two kids /attending a wedding in Kilronan castle which is only 7 mins drive or a base to explore dublin/belfast/galway as we are only an hour and half from them .
The apt is totally separate from main house with own entrance and private car parking . The 2nd bedroom is located beside the apt the with its own entrance and bathroom but is only for bookings who pay for four guests. We offer two bikes and a trailer (for kids) with the accommodation so gives you the opportunity to explore the blueway which is right on our doorstep . We are on hand to help with anything you may need to enjoy the area as my wife and i are both working in the hospitality industry and are highly qualified to ensure you receive 5 star service and experience when you are our guest .
Beirnes of Battlebridge bar and restaurant is located near us which is a great place for trad music and food while overlooking the river Shannon . There is 20km of pathed walkway along the canal for waking or cycling or you can use our kayak if suits .
  • The house is located in a beautiful spot, we loved taking a walk along the canal and would definitely come back and stay again.

  • Philips place is a separate part of their beautiful house in its own quiet grounds off the canal towpath. You need a car to reach it but we walked into the Leitrim village and did some great walks with our dog along the canal towpath. The apartment was well equipped and stylish. Our hosts were very attentive and helpful. We had some problems finding it as our satnav gave us the wrong location for the postcode but Philip directed us. All in all a great, relaxing stay with hospitable people in a stunningly beautiful location.

  • If I could give more than 5 stars I would!! You will not meet a kinder airbnb host out there, Grainne is the best. Her dogs Maddie and Ody are sweet and affectionate and our dog Milo fit right in with them, despite being a cheeky little boy and stealing Ody's food!!! The log cabin is simply gorgeous, a quaint and comfy space in a lovely location. Grainne recommended some excellent spots like Morans on the weir for seafood (delish and stunning views), monivea woods for doggy walks and the local Chinese in athenry, which was yummy! We loved our little break away and this completely exceeded our expectations! Check-in was so easy and we were accomodated last minute to stay an extra night so that we could get ready for the wedding we were going to in raheen Woods. Thank you to our super hosts and little Milo misses his new best buddies!

  • Very beautiful place in the country side, close to the lake. It’s a place to come down and enjoy nature. Nice kitchen, cozy leaving room with a fireplace inside to enjoy. The owners are also very friendly and helpful. If you need a stay out of civilization, thats the perfect place!

    Simone2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • We were very well welcomed and had a great time at Marian's chalet! Many things to do in the surroundings. We recommand heartly the place!

  • The cabin is in a beautiful location with lovely lawns and woods on three sides and the host's home on the fourth - so if you need anything your hosts are close at hand. We brought bikes to explore the little local roads, which turned out to be really quiet and really hilly. The cars we did encounter were very carefully and considerately driven. The kids loved meeting the local sheep, cows, horses and hares. There is great peace and quiet. The cabin is located between Lough Key and Lough Arrow, both of which are stunning. A great trip!

    Elizabeth2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here with a small baby and had everything we could need. It was very secluded and peaceful. Marian and family were very welcoming and helpful.

    Louise2017-08-02T00:00:00Z

  • I just stayed in Margaret's cottage. It was self check in which was great as I wasn't under any pressure for time to meet someone there. It is a lovely, quiet spot with everything you could need. The new onsite bedroom was where I stayed and so warm and cosy. This home is super clean too. Margaret is the most amazing host, with great contact, kind touches and a great heart. There was milk and orange juice left for me and the hearing was set so it was lovely to arrive to the warmth. I couldn't recommend this little place enough and the kindness of the host. Lorraine, March 2020.

  • Margarets house is very nicely restored and sparkling clean. Homely comfortable and toasty warm, it was our perfect Christmas getaway. Set in an acre of grounds tucked in behind some forestry, it is so peaceful and quiet without feeling isolated. There is a neighbouring house that doesn't impinge in any way. Close to Keadue village with a lovely pub shop church and woodland lakeside walk. Loads of walks and things to do in the area. This is the perfect home from home and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is now a second bedroom and ensuite. Fabulous. Many thanks for sharing your wonderful space with us and for all of the thoughtful touches.

The location was perfect in being able to spend time with our family & the home was extremely clean and comfortable. Gary responded immediately to any of my messages & was accurate and thorough in the information he gave us. The amenities including having WiFi was fabulous. Looking forward to spending time in this home again.
