**** DUE TO COVID-19 AND A LEVEL 4 NZ GOVERNMENT DIRECTIVE WE HAVE SUSPENDED FUTURE BOOKINGS UNTIL THE SITUATION IMPROVES. **** Located at Pahi, a small fishing village, considered by many as the jewel of the Kaipara. Semi-rural outlook with comfortable accommodation...........
The studio is fully self contained with all essential cookware and appliances. A private deck and entrance and a gas BBQ if outdoor cooking is your thing. The room is equipped with a Queen bed, has Freeview TV and a selection of DVD's Please note breakfast is not supplied however milk, tea, coffee, sugar and general cooking items like oil, salt and pepper etc are.
Pahi is generally a quite location and with the studio double glazed and insulated a good nights sleep is almost guaranteed. There are some nice short walks to the beaches from the studio and with a short drive the Lions Club and Kauri Bushmens Memorial walks at Paparoa. Pahi has a lot of history as a port and still has a number of the original buildings along with a Moreton Bay Fig tree reputed to be the finest specimen of its type in the southern hemisphere.

  • Perfect accommodation, lots of interesting information is present and Alice and Paul are always there to answer your questions. Take your time (3 hours of even more!) to visit the very interesting kaurimuseum, just a 15min drive. Also nearby a nice walk through a kauri reserve, where you probably will be alone to admire these trees. Merci beaucoup Alice and Paul for our nice and interesting stay

  • We would highly recommend Alice’s place for a very pleasant stay in a quite country location, not too far from most everything you could need. The accommodation is first rate. Alice and Paul have a lot of local knowledge and are very happy to help with directions. If ever I am back their way I will certainly make sure I pick a time when their place is available. jiM

It's also a wonderful relaxing location perched on the hill and point overlooking the Kaipara to the front and left and right. It's conveniently close to Paparoa which is a quaint little village and has a farmers' market on Saturday morning. Also not far from Matakohe Kauri Museum and local artists John and Anne Ecuyer just across the road from the museum. You'll meet the dogs and the goats and the chooks. A bit of paradise. Thanks Erin & Kevin!

We live in the middle of nowhere If you like quiet you will love it here. Although we heard a car go past two days ago. We have 93 acres with Native forest, chickens / cattle / calves and the cutest little Kune Kune pigs you'll ever meet. We have the privilege of sharing our home with a succession of puppies mostly Labradors; all of whom are Blind Foundation guide dog in training. And we are all ruled over with the Iron Claw of our SPCA rescue cat Ebony
We only take one booking per day so whether there is one, three or five of you, you will have the entire ground floor of our home for your use. Including your own bathroom with a Spa bath. In the land of the Hobbits, home of the bungy jump and the jet boat; here is your chance to spend a night or two doing nothing, Refresh, Relax, Reflect, coffee on the deck, beer in front of the fire, wine in a candle lit bath or picnic under the trees. We offer you the opportunitty to do nothing and all the equipment you need to do it.
Green and quiet we have by the bucket load we are in the middle of nowhere and offer a great opportunity to do nothing. Sunsets, walks, mountain bike rides, picnics in the trees and star gazing (sometimes) with the kiwi is about as hard out as we go. The Matakohe Kauri Museum is a place we are all very proud of and is well worth the visit. The Paparoa Village Farmers Market on Saturday morning is where we shop. The Thirsty Tui also in Paparoa Is our local Pub. We are constantly working our way through their seasonal menu. We usually have a late lunch or early dinner on our way home from the markets.
  • Perfect farm land getaway!

    Anouk2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • I would like to thank Ross, Kim & their lovely dog Marry for their hospitality. We enjoyed our time and we felt like home. Location is easy to find and it is middle of no where, which is what we wanted. It is surrounded by nature and it’s very peaceful. If you are looking for a getaway outside town then it’s a best place to visit. Our Dog TinTin is missing Marry and he is sad that he had to leave everyone and go back home. I highly recommend to stay with Ross & Kim & Marry as they are really good host. I enjoyed my time with them more than anything ! If you love bit of humour then Ross is your man. Thank you Ross & Kim 😀, hope to see you again.

  • Sara and Peter are the most amazing hosts! Highly recommend staying with them. Thank you guys.

    Adam2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very Nice farmstay with surprise: beautiful walk to the mountaintop with Peter and farmvisit. Had dinner and breakfast together with Peter and Sara. Very nice conversations and great hospitality.

    Adrie2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • With Sara and Peter you feel at home from the first contact and this feeling remains even when you are visiting. They integrate their guest into their home and those who feel like it can even milk or ride with cows. The house is beautiful, the room spacious. The bathroom and toilet are shared by the guests (we were two of us). There is an excellent breakfast and if you want you can have dinner in the evening for a small fee. All in all, highly recommended accommodation.

    Gabriella2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I have been staying at airBNB for over a month in Australia and New Zealand and can honestly say this was the most enjoyable stay we’ve had, and we have had some very delightful stays. They took charge immediately in helping us feel comfortable on their hobby farm. The bedroom and private bath in a quiet country atmosphere was perfect for this Kansas farm couple, with REAL awesome food. We were delighted in seeing all the animals they tend to and sharing stories about each other’s children. Sara let us help feed many of the critters and Peter brought out his wonderful telescope for a great view of the moon. If you don’t care to interact with your hosts, and be made to feel like family, don’t stay here. I give them a perfect 10 on all counts.

    Janice2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • You couldn't get more friendly hosts. We felt like we had known Peter and Sarah for years and were encouraged to use the house as our own. Great to meet Spike the goat, Cleo, Bailey and all other farm animals in such lovely surroundings.

    Robert2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • The best Airbnb experience I have ever had, cross my heart. Both Sara and Peter are kind, warm, open and fun. I had such a great time even though I only stayed for one night. They really do everything to make you feel at home. Definitely will come back though ;)

We live on a lifestyle block about 7 minutes drive North of Kaiwaka. The cabin is self contained. It has a small lounge/kitchen/dining; bathroom with shower, toilet and wash basin. A bedroom with two king size single beds. In the lounge is a fold out sofa, which turns into a double bed. The kitchen has pots, pans, cups, plates and cutlery. There is coffee, tea, milo, milk and sugar. There is no Wifi inside the unit, it is outside and guests are also welcome to use the Wifi inside our house.
Guests with children should be aware that we are bordering a lake. The private lake is surrounded by lifestyle blocks, so it is very peaceful and quiet here. We have a jetty from which you can jump or dive straight into the water. We also have a very friendly Golden retriever dog, Chloe, who wants to say hello to everybody.
Our place is a lifestyle block about 7 minutes drive North of Kaiwaka. Kaiwaka is a small town with, amongst others, a very good 4 square grocery shop, a yummy bakery, Eutopia cafe and a dutch cheese shop. There is also a pub, restaurant as well as lunch bars. We are about 15 minutes drive from Mangawhai village, with more restaurants, art gallery and craft shops. Another 5-10 minutes takes you to Mangawhai surf beach, where you can also take a beautiful coastal walk. Our land is adjacent to a lake, which covers about 25 acres.
  • Amazing lake location, very clean. Comfortable beds and great shower. Thanks to Christa and husband who are fantastic hosts. Would highly recommend

    Elena2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • My mother and I had a lovely stay and we would highly recommend to anyone hoping to get away from the hustles and bustles. We only spent one night there (breaking up our travels from Tauranga to the Bay of Islands) but could have easily hung out there for a few days. Very helpful hosts and an awesome scenic spot - the kayaks were a great addition too!

    Liam2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The thing I must have enjoyed most, was taking a dip in that beautiful lake. The view is stunning, and it's like the whole world melts away. Christa was very friendly and greeted me with strawberries from Henk's beautiful garden. They were both very attentive, and the dog was such a sweetheart. This is the perfect place to stay. It's perfectly located between 2 towns that offer beautiful beaches, restaurants, museums, a cheese factory, and a chocolate factory. It has a fully functioning kitchen, and there is a lot of room inside and outside to spread. I'm definitely coming back again!

    Joanie2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great spot to unwind, enjoy walks around the lake and the rural atmosphere.

    Colette2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Christa’s place. Warm couple whom own a lovely peaceful place. The unit itself was exceptionally clean. Highly recommend.

    Daniel2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved our stay - it’s was exactly what we needed for a quick stop over on our way further north. Just as a side note we didn’t have any reception at all in the cabin which was fine as we were only there for 1 night. I think you can step outside if you are really desperate and of course if you need WiFi you are able to use it at the main house :)

    Jasmine & Phillip2019-10-29T00:00:00Z

This rustic tiny cabin on Mangawhai's estuary is the perfect weekender. Being indeed tiny with its 7 sqm, it is nestled on a large, eco friendly property with lots of trees and birdlife, water views and access to kayak or paddle board, if you bring your own. Only 5 min walk to shops, cafe's and chocolate factory, the saturday markets and tavern. its 5min drive to the beach and at night you can often hear the surf. A perfect hide away in the pulse of Mangawhai.
This is a down to earth place with a wild garden, two cats in the jard and the main cottage made from recycled material. . I live with my 2 sons, Dario and Silva. They both have their separate little dwelling as bedrooms, a Caravan and a former workshop. The cabin itself used to be a little housetruck that got parked up in the garden - without the truck part. Its got a comfy bed, has a balcony with bean bags where you can look out to the estuary through the trees. there is power, a kettle with tea and coffee provided and I can give you some fresh milk in the morning. you have your own private sitting area with a big bbq, that has one element for cooking, and a kitchen bench with a small sink. this outdoor kitchen can only be used in fine weather, as it is not under cover. You have your own outdoor shower, heated with gas. the toilet is a tidy longdrop in the garden. wifi available.
  • Better than a campsite, very close to nature, I loved it. And what a welcome !!!

  • Gorgeous little space with outside shower tucked into the bush, bean bags with a view over the estuary for the morning coffee. Very special little spot.

    Katherine2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely little cabin. A really nice getaway to enjoy nature and just relax. Britta was so friendly and welcoming. Would love to go and stay again. Well worth the price.

    Ceara2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • What an absolute delight this little 'tiny cabin' was. Note that it is tiny - so perhaps not ideal for overly tall people - but ideal for one, and I adored it. A beautiful outlook from the bed across gorgeous bush and wetlands, with pukekoes roaming around. The outdoor shower was wonderful - how amazing to have a hot shower looking out straight into the forest, with no walls in front of you. Peaceful and serene, and oh my gosh, the stars at night! Britta was lovely, very helpful, and very patient with my unavoidably constantly changing travel plans! Will likely do the same trip this time next year, and stay again.

    Karolyn2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny cabin is cute, comfortable and a great place to unwind. We truly enjoyed our stay here, the evening spent on the little deck and the outdoors garden shower. Peaceful setting in the garden by the estuary. This place is tiny but offers all you need, very thoughtfully pulled together. Thanks Britta!

    Kathrin2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny cabin was great! The bed was so comfortable and everything you need is right there. The cabin is in a great location and the property is such a peaceful place to be.

  • Robyn's guest house was a very elegant, up-scale, brand new bach with great views, set in a lovely, rural setting. It was clean, comfortable and very private, with a terrific, well-stocked kitchen and very nice bedrooms and bathroom. It was very good value for money and exceeded my wife's and my expectations.

  • This retreat has hidden surprises everywhere. Artwork, beautiful crockery, glassware, flowers, candles. Styled like a magazine shoot. I loved everything, including the closeup encounters with local wildlife - morepork, possum, cicadas singing, and even a beautiful puriri moth. Restful scenery and a wonderful spa pool to soak in. Come see for yourself...

    Karen2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Robyn’s Airbnb was more than wonderful! The views are amazing and the house has everything you would want! You will not be disappointed! Every detail was met for our stay!

  • We thought we were booking a room and got an entire apartment just for us! It was great for us, especially because we arrived late and still wanted to cook. So we didn't bother anyone and Richard was still so attentive to give us a lemon for the fish. He is very personable and attentive. We really enjoyed our privacy and the nice contact with him too!

    Tina2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is our 2nd stay with Richard. Wish we had booked more nights in the beginning as this bnb has gotten very popular. The home is very clean and comfy and we would stay again.

    Janet2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is really fantastic. You have everything you need and much more. The house is huge and really clean and tidy. Richard is a wonderful host, he is always friendly and laughing. We instantly felt home. I would give 6 stars if I could. The price is unbeatable. Thank you very much for having us, wishing you all the best

    Moritz2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • GOOD VALUE. The unit is new and of high quality. The bed is extremely comfortable (firm mattress), the living room is a bit minimal but very functional. Richard is laid back and welcoming. He made us feel at home while providing us total privacy. The beaches were a short drive away. Great place for a short stay!

    Kara2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Richard was friendly and welcoming when we arrived. The place is beautiful clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Communication was great and we really appreciated being able to check in ,in the morning. We had a great time in the area and will definately recommend to others

  • Thank you Richard. An economical stay, a helpful host, nice produce from the garden and essentials (and more) left in the fridge for us. Recommended

    Peter2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Richard's place was just perfect for us. The bed was extremely comfy and the shower had plenty of nice warm water. Richard was very welcoming and helpful host, sharing his back deck overlooking the bay over a glass of wine was a real treat. We will be back.

  • Just like as described, it is a little room on a beautiful farm. You have your own toilet but a full toilet and shower is a short walk away. I wish I had had more time to explore the property.

  • This place is just what we needed a couple of days to chill out in an extremely clean b & b. Eggs, bread & spreads, yoghurt etc. a chat if you wanted. Very recommendable. Even my other half noticed the crisp white sheets and fluffy towels. Thanks Lin

  • I loved my stay at Julie’s place. Julie is a fantastic, generous host. The area is quiet and tranquil. Just the best place to recharge your batteries, leave technology behind and get back to nature. The animals are friendly and good company. The bird song is the only sound you’re likely to hear. Julie left me some fresh produce to cook with and the flavours were out of this world. Just a few minutes drive in the car and you’ll find a really good general store, a couple of takeaways, a pub, a lovely little park area and a walk. The people I met were friendly so there’s pretty much everything you need in this quaint, tiny ‘town’. Thank you so much, Julie 🙂x

  • Julies place is very nice and clean. Toilet and shower was a very unique experience for us and we loved it. Nice and quiet place to reboot, relax and release the mind. Loved staying here and highly recommend if you want to get away from all the noise.

    Emma2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely LOVED our stay. Julie greeted us with such warmth and made us feel so welcomed. The self contained unit had everything that we needed and had plenty of stylish touches. We just so happened to be Julie’s first guests as she had just opened the space recently for Airbnb. We would highly recommend anyone passing through the area to stop by for a stay! A little slice of NZ small town paradise. Ps - the dogs were so cute and so friendly. Definitely a highlight.

The Chalet will be clean, spacious and convenient to everything available in this beautiful environment. You will have a generous view of our estuary and sandhills to the front. Then as the property backs on to a farm there is a very strong rural feel, with wide views of Bream Tail Farm and the Brynderwyn hills. Trek the Goldschmidt track to the beach from the top end of Cullen St or 25 minutes walk by road. The estuary walk is about 10 minutes via the shortcut track halfway down the road.
Spacious Open plan bedroom and lounge with kitchenette. Separate walk in wardrobe for belongings and a tidy and clean en-suite. Wide views to the sea and estuary for you to enjoy.
Even though we are close to everything our street is not a through street, therefore quiet with not many lights so the night sky is brilliant on a summers evening.

    Maddie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Truly the best Airbnb experience I have ever had, every detail of this place is absolutely perfect. If you are contemplating booking Amees beautiful tent I highly recommend you do so. Firstly, it is extremely private with a lot of activities to do within minutes walk. The stream is extraordinarily serene and beautiful, the mountain/hill side was optimal for viewing sunsets and star gazing, and the glow worms were the perfect touch to end the evening. If you have never seen shooting stars, look no further. I have never seen stars so abundant and bright in my life! And we saw several servers shooting stars while star gazing! The tent itself is absolutely gorgeous with a simple yet rich atmosphere. The bed is comfy, the couch and table is also very nice. The deck is absolutely divine for star gazing also! And to bask in the morning sun. Do bring a picnic mat or something if you’d like some comfort when lying down! Do not underestimate the hammock, it was truly delightful to get some shade and breeze while relaxing. Even the bathroom was great! The bathtub is a must use on your stay here!!! If you’re worried about bugs you really do not have to be. Neither my friend or me were bitten by bugs at all and we spent most of our time outside on the deck even at night time. Not to mention the host herself, Amee, was extremely kind and hospitable. She let us know about all the activities and she also leaves a clear file of all the information you could ever need while you are there. If you are planning on coming here in winter she even provides fire wood for the fire place! Amee if you are reading this, thank you!! You really made our stay here :)

    Jenny2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Host was amazing, I asked if they can help with hot water as there is no electricity in the tent and they lent me a gas cooker and kettle :)

    Albert2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely experience! We asked if we can checkin earlier than the required checkin time and Amee was very kind and allowed us without paying additional fee :).. we were greeted by Amee and John upon arrival. John showed us the way to the tent and gave us instructions on the activities that we can do. We went on a hike and saw some wild goats. We went to see the falls/stream, then at night we went and see the glow worms. The tent is bigger from the picture and there is toilet and bath with hot&cold water which is a plus. Will surely recommend this to our friends. Thank you Amee and John. 😊

    Roselle2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • A magical weekend away. We loved our dips in the watering hole, the stars at night, the comfy bed, breakfast on the deck (thank you for the camp stove for water boiling!), nature all around. Definitely worth staying a second night to really get to appreciate all that this slice of heaven offers. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in this very special spot.

    Craig2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Amee was such a lovely host, plus her farm dog was adorable! Amee showed us around her property and let us know of different kinds of activities we can do there. The lotus tent was surprising more spacious than I thought and it was sparkling clean! Loved sitting in the tub and gazing out from the little window! Would come back again.

Situated in the middle of our family's working dairy farm, this space is the perfect place to unwind. 100% powered by our off-grid solar power system. Enjoy gorgeous view of river, sea and farmland from bed! Includes a kitchen with two burner gas stovetop, microwave, toaster, kettle, plus a BBQ, and of course private bathroom. Free wifi is provided. A lovely rural retreat to unwind in or use as a base to explore Pouto Peninsula, Ripiro Beach, Kai Iwi Lakes and Northland's hidden treasures.
Enjoy a queen bed with super comfy mattress (people who stay want to take it home!), organic cotton sheets and quality bedding. A couch which pulls out into a futon Queen bed is also available - let us know if you plan to use it so we can pop out some extra bedding. The room best suits two guests - as all beds are in one space it can feel a little crowded when sofa bed is pulled out - but can accomodate up to 4 if you wish. Please let us know if you require a porta-cot or need anything extra provided if travelling with a baby or children. The cottage has its own bathroom- shower, toilet. Kitchen has a fridge (with a jug of farm fresh milk provided), two-burner gas stove top, toaster, kettle, microwave, toasted sandwich maker, plus fresh UV-filtered spring water on tap. We have a gas BBQ set up and available for cooking on patio if weather is good! The cottage is located next to our house - at the end of garage, private, but close to us if you need anything. 10 minutes drive to Glinks Gully and the beach or you can walk through our family farm - it's a stunning walk with amazing views and approximately 3km to the beach (30-40 minute walk down, 45 minute walk back up the hill!). There are plenty of other farm walks you can take too. We are completely powered by solar panels - 100% off grid. We have chooks and honey bees on our property, (and sometimes other animals!) and are surrounded by the family dairy farm. Our family's cows start calving in mid March (we Autumn calve and cows milk once a day in the morning) - if you are keen to see the calves let us know! Please feel free to forage and eat from our organically grown vegetable gardens, which are next to the cottage and on the front lawn. Heater is installed to keep you nice and toasty in the winter; all windows have fly screens so you can catch the summer breeze. Enjoy the good life, off-grid, on farm. Follow us on Instagram @thehiddennorth #hiddennorthnz
We live on a costal dairy farm so it's a pretty neat location. Our property is 30 minutes south of Dargaville on the Poutu peninsula - Tasman Sea on one side, Northern Wairoa River on the other. We are approximately 10 minutes drive from Glinks Gully/Ripiro beach (car access right to beach), or a 30-40 minute walk through our farm to Ripiro beach. It's a 49 minute drive to the superb Kai Iwi Lakes, a 40 minute drive from Tokatoka peak (an excellent little climb!) and 80 minutes from Tane Mahuta. Dargaville's excellent maritime museum is 30 minutes drive, Matakohe Kauri Museum is 60 minutes.
  • If you want to switch off, in a "Our little farm" / "Doll kitchen atmosphere", you have to go here. An extremely lovingly arranged accommodation that could also be found in "beautiful living". The hosts are very helpful. Even if you can already hear the kids great, the pain limit is not reached. I felt very comfortable, even if only for 1 night. Clear recommendation!

  • An absolutely charming place to stay! We have rarely lived so beautifully. The small apartment has everything you need and is furnished and decorated with incredible attention to detail. The nature around it, the tranquility and the wide view to the sea are beautiful. The owners are very warm and always available for a chat. Definitely stay longer than one night !!

  • Terrence's guest house was the perfect place to escape to. I loved spending days bike riding to Mangawhai Heads on the road bike Terrence and Cathy let me borrow. The outdoor shower was amazing and the space had everything I needed. Terrence and Cathy offered me lots of great tips and graciously offered to pick me up from the bus stop in Kaiwaka. I had a wonderful stay!

  • Funky Space is an incredible little home. Check in was easy and we immediately fell in love with the place. The home is very spacious and private. We were able to relax and unwind in this home and loved the calming vibe of the home. Kitchen has the right amount of utensils, bed is comfortable and everything is clean. We loved the outdoor bath and shower. Funky space is spacious and perfect for those looking to disconnect from technology and reconnect with themselves. 10/10 ☺️

The Annex is an older building that was a sleepout. It has two bedrooms and a living/ dining area, with a wood fire, sink, fridge, hot plate and microwave. There is a small shower room and separate toilet. It is situated on a farmlet with harbour views, 7km south of the city centre , one hundred metres up an unsealed driveway off State Highway One. This is a busy main road, so there can be road noise. It is a working farmlet, our hens free range and our trees drop leaves and small branches.
There is NOT a full kitchen - only a fridge, hot plate, microwave, kettle and toaster. Tea, coffee, cup of soup , cereals, bread, butter and condiments are included. The living area has a TV and DVD player with some DVD's. There are plenty of books to read. I have made sure the beds are really comfortable. You are totally private, if that is your wish. The free WiFi code is in the Information booklet if you have a laptop. You may use our washing machine or dryer for no charge.
We are in a semi rural area with only a few houses around us. Whangarei CBD is 7 kms from us and has many good cafes and restaurants which you will find in our information folder. There are a number of good walks and cycle tracks and many parks. The sub tropical Quarry garden is worth a visit and there is an Arts Quarry as well. The lookout on Parihaka gives you views across the city. There is a picturesque drive along the harbour's edge out to Ocean Beach and there is a nice cafe towards the end of it. About 20 min south is the historical Scottish settlement of Waipu with its small museum. An hour SW is the unique Kauri museum and the Bay of Islands is only about 40min north of us. We have numerous beaches both harbour and ocean within half an hour's drive all around us and there is the famous deep sea fishing base at Tutukaka about 40 min drive NE of us.

  • Great apartment with everything you could ask for

    Sabine2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in Eilean's annexe was a great experience and the little things, such as all the choice of breakfast things, including fresh eggs from their own chickens and the home made brownies made the stay quite unique. The location was wonderful, only 100m away from the road, but it felt like staying right in the countryside and was so peaceful. I would love to stay there again if I ever make it back that way.

This solar powered cabin is set in its own secluded area on a lifestyle property. Enjoy the bush views, BBQ on the deck, listening to birdsong, and the sound of the nearby stream. The cabin is set amongst native trees and is 10 minutes drive to Mangawhai. The cabin features a loft bedroom, generous deck, unique shower and an outdoor bath. It has a fridge, gas cooker, tea and coffee. A chemical toilet. Relax to the sounds of native birds, and if you are lucky, the call of the kiwis at night.
To view a video of the cabin and surrounds go to You Tube and search: Totara tree cabin. On another part of our rural property we now also have "Grace the Classic Kiwi House truck". Check it out on AirBnb.
  • Glenn and Sharyn’s cabin is absolutely perfect for a quick getaway. No reception means you can completely unwind and enjoy the beautiful surroundings from the deck or the outdoor bath.

A small yellow cream room, painted walls and kauri floors. The post boxes used to be housed along one wall. There is a large bathroom just around the corner. This may be shared at times but only with two others at the most.
This single room is very reasonably priced as it includes a quality home made continental breakfast. Fruit is home grown, and the muesli and bread home made. Quaint and charming, although small it has a space for a seat, a place to hang clothes, a place to put your bag and a wall heater.
Paparoa is a rural village. It is generally quiet, but friendly. the pub serves meals most nights ( not Monday) and there is a take away bar. The Cruiser is currently open Tues - Sat 9-2 and Thurs and Friday nights for dinner. The Maori pa walk is worth doing and the Matakohe Kauri Museum is wonderful. ( 6 kms away) We are a good stop off point before heading off to Auckland and your flight home.
  • The building is old but very clean and the owner's sense is felt. Also, the explanation at check-in was very polite, and the breakfast was abundant with homemade fruits. I enjoyed the conversation with other German guests and had the pleasure of a small hostel.

Recommendation given on where to have an evening meal and the breakfast was superb. Homemade delicious bread and jams, a special muesli mix, yoghurt and home grown fruit. A real treat. Debbie, you certainly are the perfect host and a big thank you for an enjoyable and memorable stay. I have recommended you to others already.

It meets my needs perfectly.

  • This was one of the best accommodations we ever had. It was all sparkling clean and tidy. You have everything you need and much more. We really loved the little extras in the room. Perfect private bathroom and awesome view!! Heather and Brad are really nice and lovely people !!! The mattress is so comfy, we didn’t want to get up in the morning. In my opinion, the price is too cheap for the service you get. (First air bnb since 3 months with flyscreen, so no worries leaving the windows open :D). Would definitely come back back. Highly recommend !!!

  • It was just a one-night stop for us at Heather and Brad's place, but we enjoyed it thoroughly. The room is lovely and bright with spectacular views no matter where you turn, day or night. All the fixings for breakfast were ready for us in the room, along with a fridge and microwave. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom and closet spacious. We would have been happy to stay longer.

Most magical spot on the Kaipara Harbour. Secluded, walks, safe swimming, great fishing and views. Couples, solos, families (roll out bed, space for a tent). Kitchen facilities and hot-water shower. It's glamping - use the nearby meticulous public toilet. Fish from the beach or boat - ramp nearby and space to park your boat) or kayak. With historic Batley House - and us - nearby, you'll be on a peninsula on a 1000-acre farm less than two hours from Auckland and 20 mins from Maungaturoto.
Retreat on the edge of the harbour and in a cosy nook protected from prevailing wind. Great walks, safe swiming and good fishing. The area is steeped in history. You can walk along the beach heading both ways and up the hill behind our house for amazing views. It's quiet and private - most people haven't heard of Batley. Some locals launch their boats here, but often you'll have the beach to yourselves. For history buffs - there's an historic church nearby and this was once a pioneer settlement with a wharf, fish factories, flour mill, shop, post office, church and school - and lots of people. Our house was a boarding house and hotel. My book, 'Love at the End of the Road' tells the area's story - there's a copy in the cabin. It's a perfect place to chill out and enjoy the environment - the birdlife, the everchanging colours of the sea and hills, or catch up on reading in the peace and quiet.
Batley is at the end of a peninsula that comprises farmland and native trees. You'll look across the harbour to Oneriri Peninsula. You can swim, walk, paddle, fish, kayak from the beach in front of the cabin or launch larger boats from the nearby ramp to go cruising or fishing. It's quiet - some days there might be only you although Santa has been known to arrive by chopper to delight the local Fire Brigade children. There are a handful of houses within about 4km. There are sheep and cattle in the paddocks and a horse. Walk up the hill behind the house for great views. This was a busy pioneer area and the aura of that still exists.
  • Amazing place! Complete serenity and the water at your doorstep, what more could you need!

    Rachel2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much Rae and Rex. We had an amazing break. I loved being able to get in the water everyday. Either to swim or to make friends with the sea creatures. You were kind and considerate, giving us space when we needed it, and company when we needed it. The cabin was affordable which given our budget was really important. It made our visit possible on the first place. I miss the water already, and I would highly recommend my Airbnb friends pay Kaipara a visit. Thank you, Brooke

  • Glenice and Larry have made us feel very welcome in their lovely all-wood house. We exchanged a lot with them. The room is very comfortable and everything is very clean. Plus the breakfast is excellent. Too bad not to have enjoyed the terrace because of the weather because the view is very nice. A real haven of peace. we highly recommend a stop at this very friendly couple.

  • Friendly hosts, good location and property

    Auldan2019-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Hosts very friendly and welcoming. Near to beach and close to highway 1. Larry and Glenice have a lovely house on a very pleasant plot with super decked balcony overlooking the river. We found Waipu had several good eating places for a small town.

  • Larry and Glenice are great hosts! They’re so lovely and welcoming and had great tips what to do in the area around Waipu. My dad and I just stayed one night and were a bit sad that we had no time to stay longer. The wooden house is really beautiful with an amazing view of the river. The room is also nice and clean and the bed comfortable. In the morning we got a nice breakfast and were invited to stay as long as we want or even come back during the day. Definitely would recommend this place!

Set in the most tranquil setting, you will feel as if you are away from everything. You will wake up to the most amazing view and sounds of the ocean where you can make your coffee and sit and enjoy the sun on the tiny deck. Minnie House is 3 mins drive from the beach and 5 mins from Mangawhai Village shops.
Minnie House has an easy to use Bamboo-Loo toilet which comes with easy care instructions. Shampoo, soaps and conditioners are provided as you must only use eco products. Water is on a 2000 litre tank, so be conscious of conserving water when you have a yummy hot shower in your tiny bathroom! We have set up a tv monitor and hdmi/ipad connector. If you want to come and relax to watch movies or tv shows, you can download onto your device (you will need a samsung adapter) and you will be able to curl up and relax.
Visit the glow worm caves at Waipu, have a game of golf at Mangawhai or Waipu golf courses. The surf beach is just a few minutes away, as is the Mangawhai Cliff Walk. Bennetts cafe is just 8 minutes away for lunch or drop into the lovely ladies who own Gringas Mexican.
  • This little house is a gorgeous place! Try it,- you will love it! Anne and Henrik

  • Such a beautiful place to stay! We really appreciated the nice coffee and fresh milk, along with the restaurant menus. The bed was very comfy and the house was very well thought out! Thanks Sally :)

  • Very cute tiny house with an amazing view in a spectacularly relaxing landscape. It is quite complicated to climb into bed - even for tiny ;) people as myself and the bamboo toilet is, well, special. Some proper light in the bathroom would be nice as well. Other than that I would highly recommend staying here, if you’re looking to escape the hectic of every day life.

    Julia2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We sadly only had one night in the tiny eco home and I can’t wait to get back. If you’re looking to get away from the city lights and star gaze, listen to the near by farms and have coffee with a view of the ocean then this is the perfect getaway!!

    Amelia2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Had an amazing few days at the tiny house, the views were incredible & the location was great, nice & close to the beach & the shops. Had all the amenities we needed for our few days away, we can’t wait to come back.
