Our rustic shepherd's hut is located on our small family farm just outside of Talybont on Usk in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Wander down to the local pub, head out over the mountains and gaze at the stars (telescope available!). Discover Cymru - chosen as one of the best AirBnBs in Wales! The hut gets it's name from the Welsh for orchard - Y Berllan, as it sits beside our orchard. We also have two other little huts called 'Tor y Foel' and 'Pen y Fan'
Get off-grid in luxury in our shepherds hut. You'll be warm as the hut is fully insulated and contains a wood-burning stove (first basket of logs included, please bring extra with you or purchase from village shop or local garages). The lights and sockets are powered by a solar panel which should be fine for charging phones etc. Cook either on the top of the stove, BBQ grill or gas camping hobs. The double bed has plenty of pillows and a sheet but you'll want to bring your own sleeping bag/s or duvet. There is no water supply to the hut itself but you'll be able to fill a jerrycan (from the wash hut) and top up the canteen. Heat water on the wood burner or gas. The wash hut is located 100m away on the yard. There you'll find the WC and shower.
Quiet countryside with excellent local pubs and restaurants.
  • Great get away. Hut has everything you need and loved the log burner.

  • Had a lovely stay at the shepherds hut on a frozen January weekend! The log fire was so toasty and we felt really cosy. Also great location for close pubs and walks.

  • A nice hut away from everything. Accessible via public transport. The hut had everything I needed for my stay and the wash room wasn't far away. It was warm when I got the fire going. It was good to have a gas hob as well to make a cuppa before the fire. Really nice off grid place!

Beautiful converted cottage in the grounds of an historic Victorian country house in rural Wales. Wood-burning stove, Wi-Fi, stunning views of the Black Mountains. Perfect for walkers, cyclists, garden lovers, or horse-riders of all ages. Just 450 yards on a private drive through the estate from a barn which sleeps 8 (see 'Eco-Barn in the Brecon Beacons'). Ideal also for larger gatherings of friends or family.
The cottage is located on a 19th century country house estate of about 10 acres of gardens, lawns and woods. One side of the cottage looks onto a cobbled stable yard, and the other onto its own garden, then beyond that parkland, Llangorse Lake and the Black Mountains. Fabulous restaurants and farm shops are within a short drive as well as the lake, with boating facilities, beautiful walks out of your front door, and great biking trails. An all-around perfect location for a peaceful holiday in rural Wales.
Completely rural idyll - Perfect for those who want to escape the city and drink in the joys of the countryside.
  • Stunning cottage in a stunning part of the world with an ever changing landscape out of the cottage windows. Lovely and cosy during a very wet and cold weekend. Highly recommend to couples and families.

  • The house is incredibly cozy and has everything a you might need in it. David, Carla and their daughter Sally are very attentive and welcoming. I feel like i’m living in the Downtown Abbey world (this house is a smaller version of it) and I’m in awe from the mesmerizing welsh scenery, ancient trees and the amount of sheep around the house. If you are fond of waking up to magical early morning mist, taking long walks through picturesque hills accompanied by bird singing and then returning to a house that looks like it stepped out of BBC series - i highly recommend this place.

    Tatiana2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fabulous cottage in a great location. Amazing walks right from the door and the views unbeatable.

  • We had a truly memorable stag at David and Carla’s cottage. It was incredibly easy to communicate with them and the cottage is absolutely beautiful, as is the surrounding countryside. All in all, a wonderful weekend and I would highly recommend!

    Caroline2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is the most gorgeous cottage in the most spectacular setting. We had a wonderful week here in November with idyllic, Autumn walks during the day and evenings in the cosy cottage living room beside the fire. Saddlery cottage felt like home away from home from home for us and the hospitality & friendliness from everyone at Treberfydd was the cherry on the top. We will be back without a doubt!

The School Annex is bike and walker friendly with the Taff Trail right on its doorstep. Talybont-on-Usk is a great hub for exploring the Brecon Beacons: walking, cycling, stunning scenery & incredible star gazing right on your doorstep. A detached self-catering holiday cottage, next to the owners home, it's ideal for long weekends, short breaks or longer stays. Whether you aim for the mountains or just want to relax & enjoy the views, you may find 2 nights isn't quite long enough - just saying!
The School Annex is on the edge of the small village of Talybont on Usk, a village in the Brecon Beacons with canal and rivers offering an excellent base for exploring with walking and cycling direct from the garden and incredible star gazing at night. You are only a few minutes walk from the village shop, cafe and post office and two great pubs serving a good range of local food. The School Annex comfortably sleeps four adults or a family of 5 . If a family of 2 adults with children, please note that we don't charge the extra per person per night rate for over 4 people. This is only for extra adults. Bedroom One: the Mezzanine is up some very steep steps so not suitable for children or if you need to get up lots for the loo in the night! You will find one superking bed up here which can be split in to two singles. An occasional single can also be put in this large space if required. There is a large Velux above the bed which means you can relax and star gaze and then close the black out blind with a remote whilst lying in bed. Please view our pictures. Bedroom Two: is downstairs with a double bed and a single bunk bed above it. There is a separate toilet next to this bedroom space. See pictures. Study: we are able to put an occasional single bed in this space if downstairs sleeping is required for more than two adults or children. Please ask if this is an option you want to investigate but note that it wouldn't give complete privacy. Bathroom: this is a good sized bathroom with shower (no bath), toilet and sink. For families with babies we do have a baby bath which fits perfectly inside the shower. Kitchen/Diner: Please note that the large kitchen/diner is separate from the main liveing accommodation but only by a few steps across the courtyard. It is large enough to relax in and has a dart board at the back. Whilst quirky, on the plus side it does eliminate cooking odours from invading the living and sleeping space. It also means that groups can socialise late or get up at different times without disturbing the others! Tea and coffee making facilities are in the living space for a cuppa when you want it. Please view our pictures which include a 3D layout of the accommodation so you can visualise how it is laid out. Cycle Friendly: we are cycle friendly accommodation with a space to lock up bikes and wash them down at the end of a days cycling. Talybont is a Brecon Beacons Mountain Bike hub too so some great rides right from the doorstep! We are also a short car drive to Bike Park Wales. When you come back muddy, there is a washing machine and lots of drying space. Coming in an electric car? We have a type 1 charge station next to your parking space which is fine for an overnight charge. If you need a fast charge then the village hall has a fast charge station and tokens are £5 from the village shop. Easy! Whether you are looking for an activity break, want to visit some of the many places of interest in and around the Brecon Beacons, or just want to take time out and relax, this self catering holiday property offers a high standard of accommodation in a fantastic location. Some useful things to know for your packing! We provide in the kitchen: washing up liquid, T-towels, dish cloths, salt, pepper, cooking oil, cling film, silver foil, kitchen roll, bin bags and a little tea, coffee and sugar to get you going. We don't provide washing powder for the washing machine but do have eco wash balls which work well if you want to give them a go! Here you will also find OS maps of the area and lots of local information. For the bathroom we provide: good quality hair and body shower gel, conditioner, hand soap, towels. In the main accommodation you will also find a mini fridge which will have some milk in it for your complementary teas and coffee. If you forget your slippers there is a box of assorted slippers to choose from and in the winter you will find a hot water bottle on your bed!
The School Annex is in a stunning location in the small rural village of Talybont on Usk but with great local places to eat and drink, all within walking distance. There is easy access out in to the Brecon Beacons and the Taff Trail for walking and cycling. The towns of Brecon, Crickhowell and Abergavenny are within easy reach by car.
  • Clare's place is an absolute gem - with two couples (4 persons total) we felt so wonderfully looked after and comfortable! The location is perfect, as nature lovers we found the proximity to the Talybont reservoir appealing, and we found it an easy drive to the four falls hike, the Red kite feeding site, and a few castles! Thanks so much Clare!

  • Clare’s place was amazing, well-situates for exploring the Brecon Beacons and the house itself has everything you need and more! Very comfy beds and great shower.

  • We had an excellent stay! It’s a very well cared for, thoughtful space. Everything you could need and comfortable and cosy. Beautiful garden. A great location too. A real home from home (vs some disappointments I’ve had with air bnb recently! Has restored my faith somewhat!) Would definitely like to return!

    Shanker2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay with special appreciation for Clare’s caring attentiveness beginning from the initial communication to the final goodbye on checkout. A lovely peaceful spot with gracious hospitality and delicious pasture-fed eggs from Clare’s chickens.

    Joel2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect stay. I was over thinking the kitchen being away from the main accommodation but in the end it didn’t matter at all and actually it felt good to spend time in the separate kitchen space with the family. Clare was a perfect host and massively over delivered on providing Xmas decorations, supplied extra food shopping on our arrival, helpful tips on things to do. A very nice stay and everyone said they want to come again. Merry Xmas 😀

There was plenty of logs for the very effective wood stove and we had everything that we needed, including morning and evening birdsong! Very entertaining. We've been inspired to have a little hut if our own. We loved the area of Brecon, Hay on Wye and Llangors Lake nearby, great for walks and pubs to eat.

  • We absolutely loved the shepherds hut. It had everything we needed for 2 nights of peace and quiet. The hut is well equipped and the log burner keeps you super toasty on a cold night. The shower room was nice and warm and again was really well equipped. I cant fault this little air bnb. We have the most perfect NYE watching shooting stars from the steps of the hut whilst drinking prosecco. Absolute heaven.

    Michelle2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for having us, we both very much enjoyed our stay at the hut. Despite it was a very cold rainy weekend, both the hut and the bathroom were very warm. Unfortunately, we got stuck in a few floods on our way and also by the accommodation - but Howard was kind enough to tow us out.

  • This is a beautiful property set in a cute rural location. Fiona is a lovely host with a wealth of knowledge regarding the surrounding area. I would highly recommended this property, and will hopefully be back soon myself.

  • Great spot in an area that has a lot to offer - walking, cycling, canoeing etc. Fiona's accomodation is a short walk from pubs with good beer and an excellent Travellers Rest restaurant. The accomodation is very cosy and we found the under floor heating a real bonus as the weather was a bit damp on our trip. Walks directly from the house were lovely and you are only a short drive (20 minutes) from some great waterfall walks and Pen-y-fan etc. Lovely accomodation in a great spot.

The Otters Holt Cottage is an outstandingly charming, hand crafted oak frame, nestled in 3 acres of secluded Welsh woodland and meadow. Where you will find an abundance of nature on your doorstep. The cottage is completely off grid, with solar power and natural springs. Inside there is a woodfired stove to cosy up to. An undercover woodfired hot tub and outdoor pizza oven. Just 1 mile outside of Brecon town, it is easy to access with private parking and the Brecon Beacons right on the doorstep.
Our Cottage was made from the local Oak which we hauled from the forest with a team of heavy horses. Alan and his team then framed the timbers using traditional hand tools and techniques. The kitchen includes a gas oven and hob, a small fridge, and all the pots, pans crockery etc that you are likely to need. The bathroom has a hot shower, WC and Morrocan hand basin. The Bedroom has a handmade King size bed, carved out of Welsh Oak, desk space and record player. There are 2 sets of shutters for the bedroom doors so you can choose to snug up or use the glazed morrocan doors to get filterd light or open them up to look directly into the woods. After a hot tub and a wood fired pizza cuddle up to a roaring wood fire with an old time song on the record player and the sound of rain on a tin roof. Heaven!
Brecon is a easy town to navigate it has plenty of shops / pubs /resturants and coffee houses. It has a lovely Cathedral, River front promenade, Theatre by the canal, Cinema and sports centre. The whole area is ideal for outdoor activities. Mountain walks, rock climbing, waterfalls, showcaves, canoe trips and cycling. Just down the road from Brecon you have Llangorse lake for sailing and paddle boats as well as an indoor climbing centre! 20 mins from Brecon is Hay on Wye (The town of books) located under the black mountains this is a very attractve bohemian town well worth exploring.
  • We had such a lovely stay at the cottage all of the extra toochies made it a special weekend.

    Chris2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Alan's place is a real work of art. The craftsmanship and attention to detail combined with a beautiful location and warm and friendly welcome make it a very special place. Off grid but we both left feeling fully recharged. We were really grateful for the extra special touches for the birthday girl. Thanks Alan. We can't wait to come back again!

    David2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing stay, so much love and time has gone into making this place a truly lovely place to be. A cosy wood burning fire, hot tub and pizza oven were fantastic and the hosts went out of their way to make us feel welcome, giving us tips on places to visit and how to use everything. Fantastic stay, would definitely recommend!

    Natalie2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Such an amazing find - great, unique place which feels private and secluded yet is only a short journey to Brecon and the wider area. The space is amazing - every little detail is so interesting and the hand carved / handmade elements are really beautiful. So much thought has gone into the building and it’s surrounds. We thoroughly enjoyed the wood fired hottub while the snow/rain/hail was falling outside, and even managed to make some pizzas in the pizza oven. The inside space is cosy and warm and we loved the fact it’s all solar energy, or wood fired. Lots of utensils, essentials etc already provided in the kitchen and even records and games left for use. Unfortunately due to weather we didn’t get out and about much (managed a few beers and a curry in Brecon which was delish!) however the space is perfect for hiding away in the storm and just relaxing. Couldn’t have asked for a better weekend in a storm! Would highly recommend.

    Amy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks so much for the lovely stay at Otters Holt. Such a beautiful location and property. The hot tub and pizza oven were great and the property was sparkling clean. Would highly recommend

  • Absolutely beautiful cottage in a lovely location. A very relaxing stay.

    Charlotte2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • You will not regret visiting this magical cottage hidden in Powys! From booking, through to arrival, whilst staying and departure, we had everything we could wish for. The hospitality was the best we have ever experience and the Otters Holt is one of a kind. What they have created here is made with passion and a whole load of skill!! Although wet and cold in February, the constant log fire and hot tub were amazing. As was the pizza oven. You feel safe and secluded and have everything you need for a magical hideaway. Shops are close by (10 mins drive) but far away enough so you aren’t within any hustle and bustle. The cottage itself is a work of art. For the three days we stayed, we kept finding unique things! Our bundle of fluff malamute had the best time ever. Although a whole load of muddy paws, a muddy dog means a happy dog! The only thing which would have made it better is a dog shower!! We look forward to revisiting!

  • We absolutely recommend this fab place for a romantic weekend away, we switched off from the world and enjoyed listening to storm Dennis whilst all cosy by the fire or in the hot tub. So many lovely little touches like the record player (great sound and songs that really helped set the mood), yummy chocolates n fizz on arrival and having semolina flour already stocked up for help with making the pizzas (we tried to buy some in Brecon before we arrived but couldn’t find any!) We enjoyed watching the wildlife outside with a regular gang of male pheasants coming to say hi and listening to the owl at nighttime. We’re telling all our friends to come for a stay sometime and hopefully we’ll be back, perhaps in the summer when it’s a bit drier next time!

We relaxed after good day out in Pen Y Fan watching a good dvd, chilling in the very appointed converted stables. Sian a lovely friendly host. We will return to see the celebrity sheep Gavin and Stacey soon. Thanks Sian

  • We loved our weekend getaway at Sian's cabin. It was so nice being out in the countryside and there's an awesome little stream next to the cabin. We were a short drive from Brecon Town and from the Four Waterfalls hike (highly recommend). The cabin heated up super quickly when we got in from a long walk and the shower was nice and hot. The cooking facilities are awesome - would recommend doing a food shop on your way. Overall a lovely stay - thanks for having us!

  • Perfect weekend at the perfect cottage. Peter is very welcoming host, he showed us around and advised on local area with places to explore, to eat and drink. By the way meal at Three horseshoe inn recommended by Peter was amazing also its dog friendly pub so our dog Max didn’t feel left out. The cottage itself was absolutely amazing we stayed at The Dairy. The Dairy is very lovely tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean cottage will everything you ever need or want! I loved fresh flowers in the house is very nice touch. Overall cottage just felt loved. We felt totally at home there. But best thing for us was huge enclosed garden. Max absolutely loved it. We were so lucky with weather and spent most of the time outside it was so nice to have a meal outside and have a glass or two under the stars. Stunning! We will be back soon

  • Very quaint and cosy accommodation, fantastic location and a very welcoming host. Great place to stay for walking and dogs. My expectations were far exceeded.

    Simon2018-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at The Dairy over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and were greeted by Peter, who showed us to the cottage and provided some really helpful tips and ideas of what we could do in and around Ty Mawr. The Dairy was very well equipped, the kitchen had everything! Plus some essentials, which were unexpected but very much appreciated. The amenities generally were excellent and the cottage was very comfortable, with lovely décor. The garden is unexpectedly large, with so much space for our little dog to run around in. We could imagine with some sunnier weather it would have been perfect to spend time in. I could not fault the accommodation and would definitely look to stay here again to further explore Brecon Beacons. The location was perfect to drive to some of the walks and there was lots of information in the guest pack on things to do around the area. I would not hesitate to recommend booking to stay at The Diary, it does not disappoint and will definitely be back to stay again! Peter was a very welcoming host and communication was excellent throughout.

  • Great location, cost effective, dog friendly. Watch the little jack Russell’s, they will randomly appear in your room which we loved and entertained our ridgeback to no end but all of a sudden appear under your feet! If you’re looking for easy going people and good accommodation I couldn’t recommend it enough.

  • A lovely cosy converted shed, with amazing views and great hospitality.. Decent pubs only a short drive/walk away.. We were in the shed for storm Ciara, and both had peaceful sleep... Very tranquil location with views of Pen y fan.. Lovely hosts on a working farm and great breakfast! We hope to come back in spring to use the firepit and do some stargazing

  • What fantastic spot. This basic little hut was the perfect retreat for a weekend away from the city; a stunning view, a lovely lake right in front and only short drive from some great walks. The cake - which we took up Pen y Fan - was also a very welcome treat! can’t wait to return. Thank you, Cemaes & Gwen!

Enter the cottage via an arch, courtyard garden, with gothic door and exposed beams to find modern comforts such as underfloor heating and Eames chairs and a super king sleigh bed. The wood burner makes winter nights a cosy affair.
The Gardener’s Bothy dates back to the early 1800’s and has now been lovingly restored ensuring the charm and character of this period cottage have not been lost. Original exposed beams and Gothic door reflect a different time and contrast well with the modern interior design, which uses subtle tones of green reflecting the natural surroundings. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a stunning granite work surface and the original flag stone floors which flow from the kitchen into the sitting room. Underfloor heating ensures the Bothy is warm and cosy whatever the weather. In the sitting room there is a comfortable sofa, two arm chairs, a woollen rug, small tables and a Charnwood wood burning stove, the colour of which is in keeping with the subtle tones of the room. There are numerous books including those of local interest and those with a gardening theme. There is a dining table with Eames chairs. The dining table extends to accommodate six people, if required. French windows lead out to a sitting area with a bistro table and chairs, whilst the kitchen door opens onto the second patio with table and chairs to seat six. Upstairs are two bedrooms. In the first the dark wood of the ceiling timbers is reflected in the beautiful polished wood of the super-king sleigh bed on which, to compliment the delicate greens, delicate shades of purple and lilac are introduced in the cover and cushions. In the second bedroom the colours are of gentler shades, with two attractive brass and cream twin beds and tones of green in the covers. The Bothy is set in beautiful surroundings, with both views through the beech copse to the park and woodland beyond and views to the outer courtyard.
From the cottage door, walk towards the beech copse and meadow for a stroll along the canal or up onto the peaks of the Brecon Beacons. Within walking distance are a number of local dog friendly pubs serving great food and a number of award winning restaurants are reachable within 30 minutes.
  • The Bothy is a gem of a boutique cottage in a great location The style and attention to detail is second to none with all and more than you can think off to make your stay relaxing and very comfortable Peter the host is fantastic - very prompt at responding to my many emails before arriving and when we got there, later than hoped, again immediately came out to great us with a warm welcome and tour of the property along with excellent local insight on places to visit, eat and drink! We would def stay again - a real hassle free mini break with that 5* touch! Jayne & Peter, Reading

  • The Bothy is so comfortable and well equipped. It is beautifully furnished and in a lovely setting. Wonderful whatever the weather, with great hosts.

    Sian2018-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Bothy is a stylishly designed and wonderfully well appointed cottage. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped - better than home! We really enjoyed having the wood burning stove with the wet Welsh weather. It is an idyllic location for exploring the Brecon hills. Peter also provided us with useful local knowledge on walks, restaurants and even good take aways. The Bothy is meticulously maintained and Peter and his wife are thoughtful hosts: witness the fresh flowers and Easter eggs we found on arrival for our stay over Easter weekend. A class apart.

  • Wonderful place! Great Hosts. Amazing location. Highly recommend

    Victoria2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is an excellent place to stay. Sparkling clean, full of character and some very nice touches that made us feel welcome; a place of generous hospitality (e.g. fresh eggs, bread and milk which made our first breakfast a breeze). The house is very conveniently set out - large kitchen-diner (with every needed item at hand). The sitting room was carefully set out in such a way as to encourage conversation. We were visited by friends both evenings for dinner and wine, and the set up encouraged friendly conversation and hospitality. Plenty of books and games to keep you occupied and the garden was an oasis of calm. This was our first Airbnb and we were delighted.

    Gareth2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great host, great place and great location! Carol is superb. The cottage has everything that we needed and it was very clean. Only 2.5 miles to Brecon, 15 minutes drive to Pen-y-fan and not far from everything else. Highly recommended.

  • Our stay at Jay Cottage was amazing and one of our best experiences of staying in cottage accommodation. We're a family of 4 (2 adults and two daughters 15 and 12) and Jay Cottage suited us perfectly, we each had our own space for quiet times but shared areas for eating and catching up. The cottage was spotless and felt warm and inviting from the moment we walked through the door and sorted out who was sleeping where. The open, airy dining room was an amazing place to eat our meals. The Wi-Fi kept us connected with the outside world and the girls with their favourite shows. Carol's communication was spot on, before, during and after our visit. Any question we asked was responded to quickly and Carol had put a lot of effort into pre-empting the questions of people staying with useful welcome notes and sticky notes around the cottage advising on how things worked. Jay Cottage was in a perfect location for us as we have a fairly diverse list of things to do on a holiday. I walked up to the summit of Pen Y Fan from the cottage, we visited the beach at Mumbles, the National Show Caves and lots of local shops and craft places. We were never wanting of an activity to do but if we wanted some peace and quiet and a bit of downtime Llanfrynach is the perfect place for it as there is little traffic and everyone is friendly and welcoming. We felt very much at home during our stay and would recommend it to everyone.

Set at the heart of the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park, our shepherd's hut is the perfect getaway for two. The hut is practical and cosy, with a wood-burning stove, small gas cooker, and everything you need to get off the grid. Whether you want to read, write and retreat, or get out on foot, bike or canoe amongst the sheep, hills, rivers, canals and forests, our hut makes the ideal escape.
We are a pleasant 10 minute walk from Talybont on Usk where you'll find a village shop, cafe, post office, several great pubs and a bike hire shop. We provide pillows and bed sheets, but you'll need to bring a duvet/sleeping bag and towels (though we can provide these for an extra £5). You'll find the basics in the hut waiting for you: tea, coffee, sugar, milk sachets and of course our apple juice! You'll find beautiful oak details such as window frames, worktop, shelf and cupboard doors. Although there is no running water in the hut, the water dispenser is filled from our spring. A solar panel for lighting and USB charging, small belfast sink, gas hobs and of course the wood-burning stove make this a real back-to-basics gem. One of our other huts was featured on the Welsh Tourist Boards 'Best AirBnBs in Wales', and we think this one is even better! Please be aware that we provide a little firewood to get you started but you will need to bring extra with you or purchase from local shops or garages.
Quiet and peaceful, our 3 huts are spaced out so you can enjoy your privacy.
  • Such a fun place to stay in the beautiful countryside in Wales. The hut was beautifully renovated and had everything you need for a long weekends visit. Lovely touch with the Apple juice from your farm- we loved it so much we bought4 more bottles- thanks!! (Excited to try the gerkins next time). Thanks for a great, easy and care free stay.

  • Would definitely stay again.

    Chris2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location right by a little stream and surrounded by rolling hills. Very warm and clean bathroom. Delicious apple juice! Perfect for a weekend away from the city.

    Alexa2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing hut. More spacious than expected. The location was spectacular - remote enough for a true escape yet close enough to local pubs and a shop. The hut was extremely cosy and warm when the fire got going. Bed incredibly comfortable. Will return.

    Samantha2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute hut in a field, very well équiped

    Alex2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in our shepherd's hut, it was peaceful and quiet, but not so remote we couldn't wander to a pub after a day of walking. Once the fire is going the place is lovely and warm all night, and the bed is very very comfortable. The wash room is heated and clean but shared with 3 other huts and quite far away (especially in the middle of the night!) some slippers and wellies to help with the in and out would have been a nice touch. As it is, the place is great, but I felt for the price paid we had to prepare a lot of things ourself (e.g. Bedding, towels, teabags) and had to brave more of the elements than we expected.

    Dafydd2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location for walkers, hikers, runners and bikers. The Pen y Fan hut was a perfect little getaway haven of peace. Basic, but with all you need for a simple stay... Check the pics and you'll get what you expect. Log burner is great for warming up on a cold November morning and again in the evening after returning from the hills. Just right to put the kettle on it or heat a pan of mulled wine. Take your wellies for the field in the rain and if it's muddy - enjoy it! We went running around the boggy hills and the hut was a welcome return (after a shower of course!). The apple juice produced on site is scrummy too!

    Dan2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful relaxing stay, going off grid and cosying up by the wood burner. Perfect to just shut off and read books! Hosts were excellent all though we didn’t see or speak to anyone while we were there, we loved the personal touches with apple juice and local tips Brecon Christmas lights switch on. Loved it, thank you!

After an excellent walk over the hill, I was able to cuddle up in their snug to do some overdue work and then watch Wales, sadly, lose to France with Gwen and her lovely sister in their amazing kitchen. A lovely breakfast cooked by Camaes the following morning was the perfect end to a lovely stay - I can't wait to go back!

  • You could not ask for a friendlier Welsh experience, in a truly beautiful location! There was a real rustic feel to the farm house and we loved seeing all the family photos and history of the farm around the house. The views of the lake are stunning! We were also lucky enough to meet some of the newborn lambs. The experience just gave us so much more than what we were expecting! There are plenty of pubs with great food nearby and the location was perfect for exploring Brecon (we were only about 20 mins from Pen-Y-Fan). We hope to be visiting again soon!

  • What a cosy space! We booked a last minute night away to Llangorse, we found this hidden little gem. The hut is basic but has everything you need and is really cosy, and despite the cold weather the little heater kept the hut nice and warm. We went to a local pub called the Castle which serves lovely pub grub and is very dog friendly, it was almost like crufts there this weekend! Camaes greeted us upon arrival and also checked in on us in the morning to see how we were doing :) we were also provided with a continental breakfast in the morning in the cutest picnic basket, which we enjoyed looking over the lake. We will definitely be back with friends in the summer!

  • A fantastic escape with very welcoming (but not interfering) and friendly hosts with incredible dark skies for star gazing and the most wonderful view to wake up to. The pull out bed makes a very comfortable king sized. A well kept path leads the short distance to the very clean kitchen and wash room. The heater in the room worked really well, we were very cosy but there were additional duvets to use if needed as well. The breakfast left for us was a great bonus.

  • What an absolute find.... Diane was a brilliant host- the cottage is extremely spacious, amazing location, kitted out with everything required for a foodie and cook, sparkling clean and warm. Well worth every penny, i am already planning my return. Check out off grid gourmet - the most amazing experience nearby - 4-5 course feast, up to 20 strangers in a shed in the hills, cooked only on fire ! I have fallen in love with this part of the world.

  • Staying at Diane's cottage was a lovely break in a quiet, peaceful and scenic location. Most comfortably appointed with everything to meet our needs. Jack2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Rachel's place is excellent! It's quiet, clean, friendly and it's located right beside the most beautiful canal — perfect for long, relaxed walks! Breakfasts were very fine, and Rachel and Sid's hospitality was second to none! Highly recommended!

  • This is a great place for anyone looking for a good base to explore the extraordinary beauty of the Brecons. The hosts were helpful and very attentive; they were no short of tips for activities and food establishments. They provided an excellent vegan breakfast, which we really appreciated. Would highly recommend a stay here, we will definitely come back!

    Dom2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • The room was clean and beautifully kept. Great breakfasts and lots of helpful tips on things to do in the local area. This was even more appreciated as the weather didn’t go in our favour! Also excellent recommendations for local places to eat!

    Emma2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic B and B. Rachel and Sid go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable, give useful local tips and provide a delicious daily breakfast. The location, right on the canal, is very relaxing. Lovely garden/ conservatory area to sit in and soak up the views. Clean and comfortable room.

    Harriet2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning location, beautiful B&B, breakfast was delicious and it was lovely to sit out on the patio with a cup of tea, looking at the view and listening to the bird song. We would highly recommend and would love to return and spend a bit longer next time.

  • If you like idyllic quiet country retreats, this is perfect for you! My room had the wooden roof beams from the old farmhouse in it and the views from the windows were spectacular. The little sunroom at the back of the house was lovely to spend time in and the area around the house is beautiful to walk in. Will definitely be coming back!

  • This place is gorgeous! From the room, to the view and all the activities. Perfect location for climbing pen y fan and so close to brecon for any amenities. We loved the more chilled but beautiful canal walk right outside as well. Thank you for having us it was a stunning place to stay!

  • We were extremely lucky to have arrived on the best bank holiday weather all year, and the view from the doorway of the Captain's Lookout towards the canal was beautiful. The location of the B&B is fantastic, with nice walks along the canal and just a short drive away from Brecon and many other places to visit (try Craig Cerrig-Gleisiad for a quieter but similarly picturesque walk to Pen-Y-Fan).

    Thomas2019-08-26T00:00:00Z

WE HAVE FURTHER BUDGET OPTIONS NOW PHOTOS SOON. BUNKROOM & TENT PLEASE ENQUIRE. We are in Brecon, Wales, UK. It is designed for outdoor types, with a 1030pm-7am quiet rule so that guests can get out early if they wish. The owner Paul is an Outdoor Instructor who offers local advice. We are in the Brecon Beacons. Runners can make for Pen-y-fan or you can drive or store your mountain bikes here for easy access to the mountains. There are caves, waterfalls & a canal. This is an awesome place!
The idea of the Townhouse is based on Paul's experience of travelling around the world..we know what is comfortable if basic and welcoming, and what the weary traveller needs! We have just started out after running a successful bushcraft/camping business and aren't promising breakfasts yet but there are tea and coffee making facilities, and you can access the kitchen for cooking. An outdoor shop is within 200 metres and supermarkets within another 100 metres. This means you can arrive in Brecon around 5pm and get that gear and food you haven't had time to organise so you are ready to rock on your weekend. Or get the gear first thing in the morning to then get straight out on the hill! You don't have to be the Outdoor Activity type! There are several festivals each year in the surrounding towns, including Royal Welsh Agricultural Show , the Hay Literary Festival in Hay On Wye and the Green Man Festival in Crickhowell. In Brecon in August there is the Jazz Festival. There is an excellent leisure centre with gym and swimming pool ten minutes walk away! It's uphill so you might not need it by the time you get there! PLEASE NOTE THAT THE 2 BEDS CAN BE PUSHED TOGETHER TO FORM A KING SIZE! please see photos We have declared 2 beds in the room for £25 as the standard price £27 at weekends. You can book the room for just one person. If you add another person, there is a standard additional price . Please also bear in mind that you may be asked to place your sheets on the beds and duvets yourselves and you will be certainly asked to place the sheets when finished with your towel downstairs at the end of your stay. Thanks! We have stated 'potential for noise' in the listing but this is only traffic at peak periods and in the main you will be listening to the birds by the river in the morning and evening! There are relatively steep stairs to your rooms, perhaps 2 flights. You can chill in the garden or cross the river with your coffee if the weather is good. For parking, you may get a place opposite or a short drive away. Bedding is provided with futon type beds (not 'on the floor' see above note). We have priced accordingly...a basic place to rest by the river, close to facilities and the mountains but 'without frills'..certainly comfortable and welcoming, with a guide book library and NO TV! (yes we have wifi!) Getting around More public transport information is available after booking. There is a 40A/39 bus from Hereford where there is a train station There are also buses to link with the famed Mid Wales Train line. The main bus station is 5 mins away Taxis are available, please message me and I’ll arrange one for you
Locally, there are outdoor shops, cafes, pubs, a castle which is now a hotel and a Cathedral with (sometimes!) sunny grounds! ( this is the rain shadow side of the mountains). It is a vibrant Welsh outdoor town.
  • Does exactly what is says on the tin. Great value and Paul is a welcoming friendly host.

    Josh2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Paul was a great host with lots of local knowledge and advice on nearby routes for walking/running. Check in was easy as he communicated well beforehand with detailed instructions. The space itself is perfect for outdoorsy types that just want to rest their heads after a day on the hill. You can make your own food and hot drinks too which is ideal. Located super close to the town to pick up food, outdoor kit or a meal. Plenty of restaurants and a cinema just a short walk away. Thanks Paul, hope to stay again soon!

    Fleur2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Paul is a great host , he responded to messages quickly and provided us with plenty of useful , honest and essential information prior to our arrival . He was also very understanding and flexible with our check in situation which meant we could let ourselves in at a time that suited us . The property is located in a brilliant area , very short walk to two supermarkets and a weatherspoons pub which is great if you’re looking for cheap food and drink! On a clear day you can see the beautiful hills and mountains of the Brecon Beacons as you walk over the river which is opposite to Paul’s property . We travelled by car and had no issues with finding parking just a short walk away from Paul’s, mountain walks as well as waterfall walks are no more than a 30 minute drive away but all driving is a pleasure in this area of wales as it is so beautiful ! Paul has great recommendations on things to do if you are looking for an outdoor/adventurous sort of holiday. Great host and would highly recommend ! Thanks for a great stay

    Lucyann2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great little place to stay.....great to get your head down.....warm and friendly...snug front room with kitchin that you can use anytime with free coffee and tea....Ask the host anything Paul will know....

    Derek2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Paul's place was exactly as described and great for a place to stay on our cycle tour in the area. Paul gave us clear instructions prior to our arrival and was there to meet us and help us get settled in when we arrived. If you're looking for a basic, no frills place to stay then this is a great choice.

    Julie2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great basic accommodation, good location.

    Eric2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Does exactly what it says on the tin. Clean comfortable and homely.

    Jack2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Paul’s Homestay is about as true to the origins of AirBnB as you can get. But instead of an air bed, you do actually get a mattress (and a very comfy one at that!). His Homestay is functional and exactly what it says on the tin, a rustic homestay where outdoorsy people can come and go from exploring the Brecon Beacons. It’s very similar to mountain huts and is equipped with the basic needs you require, a roof, a bed, a bathroom/shower, kitchen and even a wood burner! He’s a very friendly host too, and I enjoyed chatting to him and hearing about his experiences. This has been one of my most enjoyable and authentic AirBnB experiences!

A beautiful barn conversion situated in a remote but accessible location with stunning views and unrivalled walking straight from the front door. Comfortably sleeps a family of four or ideal for couples looking to lose themselves in the wonderful scenery. Whether you want to take advantage of all the activities on offer in the Beacons, or just cosy down in front of the fire with a good book, Holly Tree is the place for you.
Our favourite room is the cosy stone walled living room. After a day's walking, there is nothing like settling down in front of the log burner with a glass of wine! The kitchen diner is well equipped, and you can sit at the table planning your next walk on the full size OS wall map. Upstairs is a lovely twin room which is great for the kids, while you relax in the double looking out over the valley.
Holly Tree is all about the walking - either a short walk across the fields to the pub, or a full day up exploring the hills. You could spend a week exploring without ever moving your car from the car-park! Of course the Beacons has loads more to offer, including charming market towns like Crickhowell, Talgarth and Brecon, spectacular waterfalls, castles, roman remains and all sorts of activities like canoeing, biking, horseriding etc.

Ideal for 2 people to get away to the beautiful Welsh countryside. The 'Little Barn' is located about 1.5 miles SW of the small town of Talgarth with fantastic views of the Black mountains. Ideal for a break whether it’s mountain walking, cycling, visiting the local book, food, countryside living or jazz festivals, or some peace and quiet to reflect on life. Has all kitchen amenities needed plus towels&bedding. There is a shower room with toilet and basin. WiFi and flat-screen TV.
The Little Barn is next to Pentwyn the main residence. Pentwyn is a 400 year old Welsh derivative Longhouse one of only two of its kind in Wales. It has several features within it that date it back to 1600. Just to the north of Pentwyn and the Little Barn is a ‘Motte’, also referred to a tumulus on most maps. Pentwyn is in the hamlet of Tredustan which includes a farm and a couple of dwellings. If you enjoy walking there is a bridle way that runs along the front of Pentwyn over to the village of Trefecca and beyond to Mynydd Troed. In th opposite direction the bridleway takes you to the village of Llanfilo. The nearest town of Talgarth has a Co-op in the square. The Bakers Table also in the square sells locally produced bread and cakes and serves coffee and food, a delightful place to stop and take a break as it is situated over the river Ennig. There is an excellent local butcher and newsagent/greengrocer in Talgarth. The nearest petrol station in in the village of Bronllys where there is also the ‘Honey Cafe’, with a wide ranging menu of locally produced food. Brecon, eight miles away is a lovely market town with the Beacons in the backdrop. Here there is a Morrisons and an ALDI. In August Brecon hosts a Jazz festival as well as a food festival. Hay on Wye is seven miles to the east, a charming market town now famous for its second hand bookshops. There are several small bistros in particular to one one inside the Richard Booths bookshop being one of my favourites. You book a table when you turn up so you may have to wait a short time. There is also a small recently opened cinema also owned by this bookshop.
  • The little barn was very cosy and comfortable, and in a peaceful location with nice view from the balcony. Perfect for a relaxed getaway and as a base for walking in the Brecon beacons. Chris was very responsive to our messages and his cats were very affectionate visitors! Wish we'd stayed for longer

Julie was an amazing host and provided everything we could need and more, with little touches like leaving us freshly baked cake! This is a great place to view the mountains which can be enjoyed from the comfort of the house, or if you prefer, a 20 minute drive away so you can walk up them! We would definitely come again and have already talked about returning in the summer! Thank you Julie, for such a memorable and lovely break!

Julie has provided a cosy, comfortable and clean bungalow in a quiet cul-de-sac. We were welcomed to a delicious chocolate cake on arrival to celebrate Valentines weekend. Other little treats were so thoughtful. Even Dexter the dog had his own treats and the log burner was his favourite spot while Storm Dennis raged outside. We couldn’t recommend the accommodation highly enough, you won’t be disappointed.

Get in amongst the hills, reservoirs and fields of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Talybont on Usk is a 15 minute walk away for great pubs, bike rental and a small village shop. Get back to basics. Kick off your walking boots, light the fire, relax. Watch stars and sheep and escape from it all. Our rustic cabin makes a perfect retreat for couples or individuals looking for somewhere unique. The hut gets it's name from the hill that dominates the view from the porch seat - Tor y foel.
This hut is a back-to-basics getaway. A comfortable double bed (sheet and pillows provided - you'll need a sleeping bag/duvet), gas camping stove (together with pots, pans, kettle, crockery and utensils) and woodburner. The LED lighting and USB charging is powered by solar panels. Farm Produce We provide your first load of firewood and kindling, please bring extra from local garages or village shop. You'll also find a complimentary bottle of delicious 'Aber Valley Apple Juice' which is pressed here on the farm by my father.
    Very quiet!

  • If you're looking for a weekend to unplug and get away this is perfect! Log burner is easy to use and warms the hut well. Local pubs are very friendly, can very highly recommend the food at The Star Inn!!! Do your self a favour and take £10 in cash for the apple juice, you will not regret it.

  • Lovely stay just like last time we came, although no welcoming apple juice, water or matches this time! Weather was freeeeezing with heavy frost both mornings, but the wood burner is lovely and kept us warm all night! Will be back again I’m sure!

  • Most amazing place, the setting was ideal. The hut was very cosy and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfy, the fire was easy to use and warmed the hut up so quickly and was incredibly warm for it being January. The local area is stunning. Nice pubs nearby. Great place

  • Hut equipped with everything you might need, bathroom cleaned regularly. We walked up Corn Du and Pen-y-fan one day and the views were spectacular! Beautiful location and the log burner kept the hut very warm and comfortable. Thanks Lydia and Andria!

  • A wonderful and spacious hut in a great location near the Talybont reservoir. The log burner is amazing, the surrounding area is rich, very accessible and easy to explore. Would love to return some time.
