  • Perfect host. Louis was very kind and made sure we felt comfortable and had everything we needed. His lovely wodden hut is very elegant and equipped with a scenic view overlooking the ocean. You can hang out at the hut, visit the kaligaro retreat, spend the day at the coast and take a bath in their natural sea pool or louis will help you and give you recommendations on what to do depending on your mood. We can fully recommend louis and his place. Just consider that you need a 4WD to get there.

  • Our stay at Aywasi was amazing. We didn't get a chance to meet Yvonne, but Louis was incredibly kind and gracious - and a great cook as well. They went out of their way to make sure everything was perfect for us. We'd definitely stay here again.

  • What an amazing place to stay. You are on the edge of the Atlantic Coast with the thundering sound of the ocean on the rocks below. The bungalow was very private with a fantastic balcony overlooking the trees and sea. Louis and Yvonne are lovely and their new reception dining area is also spectacular.

    Nicola2017-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely stunning place! It was impeccably clean and well appointed, Louis & Yvonne were sweet and welcoming, and the view and surrounding area was gorgeous. I highly recommend checking out the Kalinago territory next door. We regretted not staying here longer. Highly recommend!

  • Definitely one of the best places I've ever stayed. Incredibly tranquil and peaceful. The room was very clean and beautifully crafted from wood. It had spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean and coast on two sides and panels in the wood you can open to really experience the outside. Amazing to wake up with the sound of birds and the ocean crashing below. The staff and management were real helpful and friendly and attend to your every need. The food was also really tasty and some great local juices and fruit in the morning for breakfast. Staff also have great ideas of what to do. We went to the emerald pools one morning but found it too touristy. So one of the guys took us to a some secret pools which were a 45 min walk through the jungle. We had the whole place to ourselves to bathe and relax! Other highlights are the Kalinago village a couple of minutes walk from the place to experience some Kalinago culture. There is also the most amazing rock pool in the sea a couple of minutes walk down the hill that you can bathe in whenever you want. The waves crash into it causing small like champagne bubbles all around you and there is loads of little fish and sea creatures to look at. Incredibly peaceful and relaxing place with some great activities to do on the doorstep. And away from all the crowds

  • We loved our stay at Kalinago retreat! Kymani met us at the ferry terminal and lead us to the rental car company and made sure we were all set with directions. We met him and Castrina there where they proceeded to have a local fish dinner prepared for us. The cabin was beautiful and clean. It was very peaceful and relaxing to sleep in such a beautiful setting. We explored the coast around Kalinago and visited the Aywasi Aute just down the road-- how fascinating! We were only there two nights but once we felt the relaxation the cabin had to offer we wished we had booked Kalinago for the entire week. Kymani and Castrina were very helpful and friendly-- they offered help booking adventures and insight on where to go and what to see. We will definitely return! Thank you.

  • The view is absolutely amazing, breathe-taking...almost like your in a dream its so beautiful. We spent time sun bathing on the rocky shores, that look like a scene from Pirates of Caribbean movie, star gazing was also a big hit. Louis & Yvonne are gracious, considerate host. We had some time to talk with Louis and get to know him. Among several other things, he is a humanitarian, a local, well traveled, educated, polite and extremely interesting. Plus he delivers outstanding customer service, we had an issue with the balcony and within the hour we had the issue remedied on a Saturday evening to top it off. We were really surprised at how courteous and speedy the service was, especially given that it was a weekend evening. We absolutely loved Jefferey's cooking, delicious fresh cuisine, and he accommodated my teen daughter's vegetarian dairy free diet. The only rival cook I found on the island is at Moses & Ingmari's B&B in Delices, make a reservation to eat there as well if you have time to travel to zion valley. The "snackette" at the model village has really good food also, reminded me of my own home cooking. The cook at snackette said she would also make dinner if we special requested it, but typically she is not open for dinner. The cabin was clean, with a mini fridge and hot water pot for tea and coffee. The showers had plenty of hot water. Bring lots of sunscreen and bug spray. And a flashlight for leaving cabin at night. Here is a place to absorb the rich culture of the Kalinago people, you will be so glad you came. Listen to the sounds from the sea. Take one look of the view from the dining area or cabin balcony, you will fall in love with Kalinago territory!

  • This is the most amazing place I have ever seen! The cottages are so lovely and cozy and the view is simply breathtaking! We also had the best dinner during our whole stay on Dominica there. Yvonne and Louis are the perfect hosts. With all my heart, I can only recommend this place. If you have seen it, you will understand! We will be back!

100% off the grid solar powered gravity rain water fed home! Amazing architecture featuring homemade glass blocks. Features full kitchen, bedroom, living area/patio and bathroom with outside shower truly at one with nature. Close to diving, hiking.
The design incorporates an old Danish style rounded roof "watch hut" with slit windows for ventilation and an open patio design decorated with homemade glass blocks. With sunlight the recycled bottles become stained glass art. With wind moving the trees it creates movement and rhythm in the glass. Sitting sipping coffee in the morning watching the amazing variety of birds and plant life makes a mundane moment truly magic. The object of my husband's design was to make a minimalistic space. The bedroom and kitchen are small but well designed so that there is plenty of room and easy access. With the screened bottle glass patio in between it has a very spacious breezy feel. The bathroom is quite unique and tres functional with an outside shower that is my new fave! Truly bathing in nature, with marvelous scents and plants literally at your feet but again, refined, comfortable, aesthetic. The grounds are nicely landscaped and full of good things to eat...passion fruit, oranges, grapefruit, avocados, bananas, coconuts...ah the tropics! We are a 15 minute walk to Soufriere Bay with some of the best diving and snorkeling spots on the island. There are also some great hikes all around us as well as the entire island, nature island Dominica.
  • After traveling around the entire island, we can tell you that this place is a hidden gem if you're wanting to stay in the south. The pictures don't do the home or the view justice - it's absolutely stunning. The home is beautiful and perfectly laid out. The kitchen is wonderfully equipped and allowed us to easily make breakfasts and some pretty complicated dinners (we're foodies) every day. (Hint: put your Kabuli in the freezer to make it extra cold - won't freeze) The best part was the view of the mountains and the garden surrounding the home! You're surrounded by lush, towering mountainsides and can enjoy the view easily from inside. However, I highly recommend moving your chairs outside and having happy hour watching the sun set against them in the garden in the evenings. Their neighbors are a working farm with animals so don't be surprised to wake up to a rooster crowing or animal noises. Though you can walk to the local restaurants for dinner (weren't open for lunch while we were there), they're a little far and would require a flashlight/headlamp to head home from. I highly recommend just buying groceries in Roseau (the S-Mart on the north side of town had the easiest parking and a great selection of food) and enjoying the view in the evenings. The location of the property was another huge perk. We came to the island for snorkeling and hiking and loved how easy it was to access both from the property. It is steps away from the Watikubuli Trail. We climbed Tete Morne right behind the property and highly recommend that hike. It's strenuous going up but totally worth it. You're also only 30 minutes away from the Roseau Valley and the UNESCO site hikes. You're barely 15 minutes from the best snorkeling you'll ever experience in your life. Scott's Head and Champagne Reef are crystal clear and filled with incredible tropical fish, coral and sea turtles. The coral gets more impressive as you venture out away from the high-traffic areas. At Scott's Head, don't miss the second cove as you head left (south) down the point. At Champagne, keep heading south past the bubbles into the second cove to see the coral multiply. The currents are practically nonexistent so you can safely explore along the coast line in any of the bays. For coral, we HIGHLY recommend Bubble Beach. We didn't run across it in any of our research and only explored thanks to Kathleen's recommendation. If you go in and then head right (north) up the coastline, you'll see purple fan coral that's 3 feet in diameter, brain coral, staghorn coral, vibrant sponges and a myriad of tropical fish. It's really a special experience, and you'll probably be by yourself which is really fun. In closing, it's pretty obvious we were a fan and can't recommend it enough. Kathleen and Henri were wonderful hosts and have built an oasis in Dominica. You'd be crazy not to book...

    ariel2017-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • I completely agree with all the other reviewers: The location is magical and the off-the-grid house is surprisingly comfortable, Kathleen is super helpful and Henri is a genius. Along with everything else, our favourite features were the best-tasting water ever and the firefly show in the evening. We didn't have a car but the 20-minute walk to Soufriere village was mostly shaded and quite pleasant. You won't starve but dining options are limited so it's a good idea to stock up in Roseau beforehand. We had an absolutely fantastic time and can't wait to go back. I'll have to say that Lower Love isn't for everybody, but if you are thinking of visiting Dominica and like what you see on AirBnB, most likely you'll fall in love with this place and the people.

    Shu2016-07-17T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 3 nights in this eco-lodge. Lower Love is the perfect place for nature lovers, located in a quiet and beautiful private garden. The house is comfortable and really well-designed (the glass bottles incorporated in the walls create a great atmosphere). It is walking distance to the village of Soufriere and sulphur springs. Moreover, Kathleen is a great hostess : available for advice and questions, smiling and welcoming.

    Bruno2016-04-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lower love was the perfect jungle getaway. The location was stunning with beautiful views of the surrounding valley and an amazing garden full of hummingbirds buzzing around in the daytime and fireflies at night. Kathleen was great and communication was easy, Henri was very helpful with check-in and even dropped off fresh passionfruit at the room every few days! Perfect way to relax and forget about the world whilst still close enough to the hot springs and the ocean.

    Travis 2017-07-04T00:00:00Z
  • The place is exactly like the photos and they don't do it justice. The gardens are beautiful and the house is nice and breezy. We had fresh fruit from the gardens when we arrived and beautiful flowers were placed throughout the property, it gave a really nice homely feel. The outdoor shower was AMAZING! It was our favourite part of the day. The water is not hot but it's deliciously refreshing after a day of exploring. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The location is great, we had a car rental so had easy access to all local attractions and Roseau. Make sure you check out Bubble Beach! Overall we had had a great stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this property.

    Hannah2017-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed staying at Kathleen's place very much. On foot it was a bit difficult to get there (bumpy/rocky terrain in sandals, smelly goats and chickens all around), but we got used to the walk, which I think is about 20 min from Soufriere. Every morning the cocks and goats sound a raucous start to the day, which was a bit aggravating if you like to sleep in, but otherwise all was peaceful. The garden and especially the house is gorgeous. So well made and unique; when we sat in the living/dining room it was almost like we were outside but with no bugs to bother us (tall, open room + lots of screening = awesome). The kitchen is well stocked with all you need to cook everyday meals. The shower is fun and interesting, from a design perspective, but as we knew and were ok with, the water isn't heated. Ecolodgic was probably our favorite of all the Airbnbs we stayed in on Dominica. The only significant issue we had was with spiders, specifically the large Huntsman spiders. If the place hasn't been sprayed recently, they get in no matter how careful you are about doors (all the windows/open spaces have screens). We killed 5 palm-sized Huntsman spiders in three nights. They aren't dangerous, but you may want to ask if the house can be sprayed before you get there. Don't let that discourage you; it's a wonderful and unique place to stay! Thanks again, Kathleen and Henri!

  • Lower Love s absolutely amazing. The accommodation is so eco friendly and unique. Kathleen and Henry were very accommodating and friendly. You instantly feel at one with nature, yet with all the comforts. Very close to the warm Soufriere Springs and scenic Scott's Head. I would most definitely stay there again.

  • Incredible and unique experience at the 767 Ecolodgic Lower Love. We stayed for 3 nights and would have loved to stay more. The place is charming at the bottom of the mountains. The apartment is fully equipped, clean and dry. We strongly recommend to stay in Kathleen and Henri's place !

Off the grid fully sustainable accommodation in the rain forest of Dominica and situated on a pristine river. Come escape from it all.
Owned by a couple who have sailed around the world exploring exotic places, Melissa and Andy chose to call Dominica home. As a captain chef team on super yachts entertaining around the world, they understand how to create a unique experience that you will forever remember. Melissa is a qualified architect and Andy is an engineer. Together they have created an off the grid property powered by solar and fresh spring water which feeds the property. This fully sustainable accommodation in the rain forest of Dominica provides unique experiences to adventure off into the rain forest, hike up the river to waterfalls, practice yoga in nature, swim in the crystal clear pools, eat homemade meals from the organic garden grown produce and enjoy the serene views. Banana Lama is a place where you can truly escape from it all.
Its surrounded by indigenous rainforest and pristine rivers.
  • Cant wait to go back James & Amy B

  • We arrived after nightfall. Melissa and Andy met us at the end of their road and had dinner waiting for us, a five + star dinner!!!!!Everything just kept getting better from there.

    Karen Hermele2016-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing stay at banana lama. The hosts Andy and Melissa really surpassed expectations with everything. The location is like another world... beautiful grounds with a wall of rainforest across your own private river in the jungle. Accomodations in Banana Lama are kind of like luxurious camping, with a big open covered platform and a bedroom/bathroom surrounded with walls. There are fruit trees, tropical flowers, lizards, hummingbirds all around. We really enjoyed swimming in, and hiking up the river to a nearby beautiful, private, waterfall/swimming hole. You could spend a lot of time just hanging out on the property and hiking up the river, we wish we had spent even longer there... Every night we enjoyed watching the wild chickens roost in the tree in front. Andy and Melissa will stock any provisions you request for a nominal fee... this is highly recommended as there is not any easy nearby grocery shopping. Also, having them prepare meals for you is even better. Delicious gourmet meals prepared with ingredients grown on property and served in the host's gorgeous house in the rain forest. Every night we got into a routine of hanging out with them prior to dinner... we got tons of advice on nearby activities and help getting anything we needed. As this was the first place we stayed on Dominica, they really helped us get oriented. They have their own natural spring with extremely delicious water. If you are lucky you might get to try some homemade/homegrown chocolate. It is very remote and involves a short drive on a dirt road, 4x4 is recommended. It is very hard to find sunscreen on Dominica, if you need some, bring it with you... Andy and Melissa found us some but we wish we had brought some. You are not going to want to travel much once you are there so plan ahead with anything else you might need... We were very impressed with the property and found ourselves wishing we could live there. We will probably be back.

    Jeff2017-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • It is difficult to describe how amazing this place is. The second you arrive you'll fall in love. Melissa and Andy built their own paradise on this beautiful island. They are very welcoming hosts, gave us great tips for activities and the food they cooked was delicious. We had a lovely time with them and their friends. The only thing you'll regret: that you didn't plan a longer stay! See you again soon :)

    Felix2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Melissa and Andy were perfect hosts; unobtrusive but always ready to help. And yes, all the reviews of Melissa's cooking are accurate. The cottage was beautiful, simple and a lovely balance of exotic and welcoming. The view of the garden, with glimpses of the river, was lovely, the sounds of the rushing river and the bird calls were soothing. Overall everything I had hoped for.

    Alexandra2016-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • This place is absolutely magical and Melissa and Andy are fantastic hosts. Prior to arrival, Melissa was very responsive in answering my various questions and provided very good directions upon arrival. She also stocked our fridge with basics (which I would highly recommend, unless you're familiar with the area). Although we arrived rather late, Melissa and Andy greeted us with outside with a campfire and a drink. Throughout the stay, they provided advice on hikes and other activities around the island, prepared and enjoyed a fantastic dinner with us, showed us around and welcomed us into their own home, shared produce from their garden (bananas, fresh coconut water, guavas, chocolate), and Andy gave us a lesson in his craft. Couldn't ask for better hosts. The cottage itself is amazing. The pictures are very accurate, but don't truly do the cottage justice. Most of the living area is completely open air; however, you can close off the bedroom, if you so choose. Although Melissa and Andy do live on the same property, the cottage is very private. It's surrounded by beautiful rainforest flowers and shrubbery and is barely visible from the main house or the rest of the property. Be prepared to see plenty of wildlife (nothing scary or dangerous), and do make sure to take a soak in the river; it's chilly, but refreshing. A couple (hopefully helpful) tips: +There is indoor plumbing, hot water, and a kitchen for cooking. +The mosquitoes are negligible. (We were a little concerned about this, but didn't end up having to wear bug-spray the whole time we stayed.) +If Melissa is still offering, I would highly recommend taking her up on her offer to stock groceries. +If you haven't been to the island, I personally think the southeast side (this location) is where you want to be. The hikes on the Atlantic side are challenging and beautiful, and usually you'll be the only one on the trail. (You may choose to take a guide on some.) +If they offer, have them make you dinner. You won't regret it :)

    Anders2016-03-27T00:00:00Z
  • Banana Lama is idyllic, a truly beautiful setting beside a river in the rainforest, such that you would rather not have to leave. Melissa & Andy are a charming and most interesting couple, who looked after us magnificently. We certainly wish to return.

  • We had an amazing trip! Spent 5 days at the end of June and got to see variety of weather - rain, sunshine, rainbows, beautiful clouds, unforgettable hikes and even more breathtaking views. Everything is so green and lush. Dominica is a beautiful country. We are so glad we were able to experience it in this time of the year when they are not too many tourists. The hosts Jennifer and Crispin were extremely helpful in dealing with unexpected travel and weather issues, as well as recommending activities and places to visit. They were available if we needed them but also gave us privacy. The provided breakfast was really great with fresh fruit, lemon grass tea and baked goods. They also went the extra mile to help us experience traditional Dominican cuisine and cooked a mind-blowing meal and accommodated 3 vegetarians :) Also, very happy that they paid attention to little things we didn’t even asked for (like that we drink our coffee with milk) and discretely bringing some homemade creamer in the morning. The place itself was amazing and had everything you could need. Not even trying to describe it with words. Look at the photos. Or just visit – breathtaking! Thank you! Emil, Bogdana, Diana, Alex

    Emil2017-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is GORGEOUS. The experience is one of a kind. If you are looking for a place that is secluded, peaceful with awe-ness scenic views – you will not go wrong here. The host and hostess are wonderful. My favorite tea in the morning was the Lemongrass tea. :)

    Kimberly2017-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • Jennifer and Crispin were extremely generous and helpful in giving us tips on where to spend our day, from local restaurants to hikes and driving directions (and how driving is done!), in an unobtrusive manner, sensitive to our privacy and need for independence. The place itself: heavenly, with birds and lizards and a gorgeous view. Our spacious room was beautifully crafted, immaculately clean, with comfortable beds, chairs, couch, kitchen, bathroom, and cooking supplies, ecologically run. The breakfasts were a varied combination of local fruits, teas, and Jennifer's yummy baked goodies, and coffee and a coffee maker supplied. The road to HideAways is extremely bumpy, so take it slow and enjoy the views along the way. Crispin was the best kind of guide for us going to Boiling Lake. However, be warned that this hike is extremely difficult (I'm 66), and though I was proud to have made it, I was very sore afterwards. Though this place was perfect for my son and myself, I suggest that anyone who does not wish a bumpy car ride in and a short but steep ascent to the room (Crispin carries one's luggage) steer towards a more accessible lodging. Part of the charm for me was because its off the beaten path.

    Deborah2017-03-24T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying with Crispin and Jennifer at their island oasis! They absolutely went above and beyond as hosts. Their attention to detail is incredible from the food they prepare to the cultural experience tailored to your interests. They truly listen to what you are interested and do their best to connect you with all the resources you need for your dream vacation. I would definitely take the opportunity to have Jennifer cook you dinner during your stay. Her affordable 3 course meals under their lit pergola are culinary brilliance. We joined another couple from Germany and our hosts for dasheen latkes with sorrel sauce, flavorful rice and beans, amazing haricot verts and fresh grilled fish with a creamy and savory tomato vinaigrette. All with the best chocolate cake with banana custard you'll ever find. You also won't want to miss an excursion around the island to any of the the amazing natural wonders with Crispin. He's a seasoned tour guide and all-around great guy that is well-know and liked among everyone you meet. Jennifer and Crispin are readily available to answer questions, help with car trouble or even bring you a jelly (not-yet-ripe coconut treat). I will definitely be back, ready for more Domincan adventures with them!

    Tori2017-04-29T00:00:00Z
  • Once we maneuvered the driveway (not an untypical one in Dominica), we arrived at a mountainside, open air retreat, designed, built and decorated by our hosts Jennifer and Crispin. The living space combines the sleeping area, kitchen and lounging veranda with an amazing view out over the mountains and Caribbean. Chrispin and Jennifer were welcoming and very helpful providing us with information on local trails, birding and snorkeling spots, restaurants and services. Jennifer created delicious, healthy breakfasts of homemade breads, fruit, fresh squeezed local fruit juice, French toast with plantains, coffee and lemongrass tea collected from their land. If we ever get back to Dominica we will be sure to stay here again.

  • I wish I could give more than five stars. Jenn and Crispin are amazing hosts. I was welcomed like family, and the surprise Birthday cake was awesome. They are the perfect blend of available and at the same time you have your privacy Accommodations are spectacular with lots of attention to detail, and the views are incredible.. feels far from everything, but in reality town is minutes away. You do need a Jeep to get up the track..Crispin is a great tour guide, and Jenns baking is to die to for.. I can't say enough and can't wait to come back. Thanks

    Donna2017-05-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! Expectations were SO exceeded! Jennifer and Crispin are the most fabulous hosts! They are so knowledgeable of Dominica and give such great suggestions on everything to see and do! Their cottages are new, modern, clean and beautiful! Exquisitely designed and decorated, very comfortable with beautiful views of the ocean and tropical forest. Loved the morning and evening sounds of tropical Birds! We heard the Dominican Parrots everyday and saw 4! Many great restaurants nearby or you can cook in your kitchen , or YES have Jennifer and Crispin prepare a local meal! We loved this experience and recommend Hideaways very strongly! We loved this adventurous island that is very clean and undeveloped.. pristine beaches, forests, ocean.. we hiked, rappelled down waterfalls, scuba dived, bird watched, soaked in volcanic hot water baths.LOVELY trip of a lifetime!

  • We had a wonderful time at Hideaways and would definitely stay there again. Jennifer and Crispin were incredibly helpful, informative and accommodating. Our place was beautiful and they thought of all the little touches to make it more convenient and homelike. They were both very friendly. Jennifer provided a great description and multiple perspectives when we were considering activities. Crispin went out of his way to ensure we were taken care of. We also asked Crispin to guide us on the Boiling Lake hike and it couldn't have been a better experience, thanks to his help and personality. The food was also great! Healthy, delicious, local and filling. Although we were out and about during the day, we could have simply stayed in our beautiful room and on the grounds, buying local fish and cooking for ourselves and had an amazing experience just being in one place.

Stunning off-the-grid eco lodge! Full kitchen and breeze way. Views of the Soufriere Volcano, surrounded by hiking trails through the mountains. We're a 15 min walk to some of the best snorkeling and diving on the island & a 30 min drive to Roseau.
We're a 100% solar-powered eco lodge, surrounded by gorgeous rainforest hills. The house was created by Swiss artist, Henri Rohrer as a self-sustaining retreat. There's a rainwater-fed water system, a shower built from local sea stones, and a screened in porch with views of the Soufriere Volcano. All of this is powered with solar. Experience what comfortable sustainable living can be like!
We're in the country, surrounded by a few other small farms. We're a 15 min walk/ 5 min drive down to the village where there are a few grocery stores and restaurants. You can hike up into the mountains from the back of the yard, and we're an eighth of a mile from the first leg of the Waitunukabuli Hiking Trail, which traverses the entire island. The village of Soufriere is located on one of the most stunning and unique bays in the Caribbean. It is a marine reserve so the snorkeling and diving are awesome! Rated in the top five snorkeling and diving spots in the world! Champagne Bay, named for the "bubbling springs" in the ocean is right down the road and a great place to snorkel with a guide. They also offer food and drinks and are just soooo friendly. A good way to get acquainted with the underwaters of Dominica. I love our location. It is very private and lends itself well to writers, artists, people who seek a quiet place away from it all. Our land dead ends at the end of the Soufriere Valley so there is only our neighbor's vehicles occasionally passing. At the same time, a fifteen minute walk gets you a taxi to the main city of Roseau and from there you can take public taxis to all parts of the island for a very reasonable rate. There are also great tour guides available and rentals are abundant. However you choose to get around, Soufriere is a great location to start and a wonderful retreat to come back to at night. A 10 minute hike through the "bush" or as they say in Dominica "Zion" gets you to the hot springs that originate in the Soufriere Volcano. A great way to start or end your day.
  • We had a lovely time at the Ecolodgic. Kathleen and Henri were rather attentive on our arrival and during our stay. It is within walking distance from Sufriere, the local village where you can find a few shops, a restaurant and public transport to Roseau. Don’t miss the Bubble Spa beach near the local church where you can relax whilst sat on the shallow waters heated by the underneath volcano! The lodge itself is situated in a secluded property surrounded by green mountains. It is a well thought design with interesting and practical architectural features. The indoor space is more ample than the pics suggest. When the night falls, you will be amazed by the sky full of stars. We also had a deep sleep enchanted by the sounds of the rain forest. We can’t thank Kathleen and Henri enough for making our stay pleasant and relaxing at their place.

  • We very much enjoyed our stay at Henri and Kathleen's Ecolodge. The cottage Henri has created is a fantastic blend of art, whimsy, comfort, and nature. Using many found and recycled items they have made a small scale, functional yet beautiful living area highlighted by a screened in porch that connected us with their gardens, fruit trees and abundant bird life. The cottage is nestled in a rainforest valley surround by volcanic mountains. The space was very clean, convenient to hiking, snorkeling and the sulfur spring baths. Henri was an engaging, spirited and most helpful host.

  • My husband and I came on our honeymoon. We enjoyed every minute of our stay! The design and decor is beautiful. The porch provides a breathtaking view of the rainforest, we had a candle lit dinner each night. We enjoyed listening to all the sounds the vibrate rainforest provides and watching the fireflies dance amongst the trees. The porch allows you to be fully part of the rainfall without getting wet, with its openness. To our surprise we fell in love with the outdoor shower, it brought the experience to a whole new level. The kitchen was clean and wonderfully equipped with a blender that we made fresh smoothies with from the fruit the locals sell at the roadside. This location is the ultimate seclusion and privacy surrounded by the very much alive rainforest. We will definitely be coming back!

  • Delightful little house - well designed with spacious well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and plenty of clothes hanging space. Outside shower is lovely -except in torrential rain! Beautiful lush garden and great sitting area where you can view it protected from bugs. Above all, charming and helpful hosts.

  • The cottage is magical: beautifully designed and built. While the island of Dominica is full of amazing mountains and waterfalls to visit and explore, the cottage is in its quiet way just as special. The property is in a small valley and gets the most amazing breezes and view of the stars. It is a great place to clear your mind, write, and reconnect to nature--all without getting a single mosquito bite, thanks to the screens on every window and the porch (which is no small thing!). Kathleen and Henri were lovely hosts, warm and generous, one of the reasons that Airbnb is so much more than a lodging website. I hope I go back someday.

  • Fantastic place, very nice view. Totally equiped kitchen , comfortable bed and a very friendly and helpful host. A bit far from most most things to do and see, you definately need a car. I would love to come back!

    Alwin2017-04-26T00:00:00Z
  • The place was gorgeous and a great location despite the country road you had to drive down. Our favorite part about the place was having bug netting on the entire house including the patio so you could sit outside at night without worry of getting eaten alive! Henri was really great to deal with, he even left us fresh fruit from his huge garden every day. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be back!

    Jen 2016-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • Kathleen's & Henri's place is mindblowing. It's been built with so much effort and love to little details. The bed is very comfy to relax after a day of hiking. The natural breeze in the building is better than any air condition. If staying there and looking for dinner - go to Cocoyea at the village.

  • We has na amazing stay at casa Phillipe ! The appartement is well equipped, very clean and located close to the airport. The view from the balcony is breathtaking and you can ear the ocean from your room. Phillip is a very devoted, warm and welcoming host. He treated us with fresh fruits and fresh coconuts from his garden. We tried the meals avalaible upon request and they were delicious. If it's your first time visiting Dominica and you arrive in Marigot, you should definitely stay there, everyone knows Phillip. He will give you good advice for your traveling. Thank you again for everything Phillip!

  • Phillip is a great host. Available all the time and very helpful and informative especially since we stayed during hurricane Irma. Dominica didn't get a hit but it's good to know Phillip keeps a close eye on it. The house is very clean, spacious and close to shops. Would definitely stay here again!

  • This is one place that should be on your 'do not miss' list! Phillip is a communicative and gracious host. He even had fresh coconuts from his tree that he opened for us when we arrived - then brought us peeled grapefruit for a refreshing repast later in the evening! The pictures don't do the accommodations or the view off the back porch justice. Phillip also made sure we got to the airport on time - at 5:30AM. Island hospitality at its best!

  • Phillip is a very friendly host. He makes you feel at home in his apartment overlooking the ocean. He is considerate if you have additional needs or requests. As an air traffic controller he waved us goodbye from the control tower, which was a perfect friendly ending of our visit to Dominica. The apartment is spacious, clean and well equipped.

It is one of Dominica's most charming and unique cottages designed for your casual luxury experience. We are conveniently located south of the capital of Dominica, making Diamond View Cottages an ideal destination for business or relaxation.
My space, it's not just a room. It's a home away from home. its surrounded with green trees and beautiful flowers, very quirt, large windows 1.2 meters wide x 2.1 meters high so you can feel the fresh mountain breeze and see the view from your room, along with 3.5 meters high ceiling that will make you feel relax. The Cottages have wall to wall hard wood floor that give the home a beauty feeling and reduces the cold in the floor.
I have only one neighbor. she is very quiet
  • We really love this place it's remote but yet it's not in the middle of the jungle. It was perfect for people like us. The location truly has a Diamondview. The ocean and the jungle in a little V shape that you can stare at every morning when you get up depending upon what Cabin you stay at was amazing. My husband and I love the beautiful jungle but we do like to be close enough to conveniences to be able to drive to dinner and to get to the sites and to the diving. This place really fit the bill. It's very attractive cottages. Clyde the owner showed me some that was not rented at the time and they're all very very nice. It's not luxury but to us it was vert close to. And since it's reasonably priced that's not what you're paying for. It's nice very clean and cold air which is really great. That is a rarity around here. We rented a car which I highly recommend but you will have to be the kind of person that doesn't mind going up anddown the roads to get where you need to go if you want to be really close to everything and just go down and stay in the city. But for us we would never do that. Lots of fruit trees nothing ripe while we were there except for coconuts but they weren't really offered to to eat and anyway they were plenty down in the market available. In fact there's a coconut vendor that makes fresh large containers of coconut water down by the market (I will give a shout out for Katja and her husband - she has a wonderful table on the sidewalk on the edge of the market with all of the wonderful coal pot soaps and local herbs and oil's beautifully labeled and beautifully displayed. She is knowledgeable about the local herbs and that is a really fun afternoon to spend getting coconut water picking up gifts and talking to her and her husband. Really beautiful Dominican people like what you will find everywhere here ). So you can have all of that in and store coconut water and drinks and fruits etc.in the full-size fridge that you get is part of the nice big kitchen. The kitchen has the very basics no salt-and-pepper anything like that you'll have to get your own but we always expect that, I would never be surprised about that type of thing in a cabin overlooking the sea. There is a wonderful Texie diet driver I don't think I can leave a telephone number here but his name is Felix and I think he could probably find him by asking around glide probably knows him he runs the faithful taxi services and that we had the most wonderful trip to the airport even though it was the crack of Dawn with him he showed us things along the way since we had a little...

    Logan2017-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at Diamond View Cottages in Castle Comfort, DA was a breath of fresh air. Literally. The breezes that we received were refreshingly ample, the eastern Atlantic winds co-mingling with the Caribbean air, in our beautiful accommodations on top a hill. Castle Comfort would be best described as a nice suburb of Roseau and easy traveling distance (by car) to Champagne Reef, Soufriere and Scott's Head. Roseau is only 15 minutes away and Scott's Head is approximately 30 minutes away. Due to an online booking discrepancy (not through Airbnb), Clyde, our host, allowed us to stay in his private residence (which he rents during Summer months) instead of one of his three equally immaculate rental cottages. In essence, he offers 4 accommodations on a large piece of property approximately 3 miles (5.3 km) up a hill from the main road (Victoria St). This accommodation is best suited for guests who have a rental car since it takes about 7 minutes, from the main road, up a very winding (and steep) road to reach his property. It's worth it, though. The views from the property are stunning. It's a great location for peace and quiet, situated in an area of large homes, with enough land between for privacy. We were allowed to view one of the rental cottages, when unoccupied, and found it to be very spacious and clean, along with the main house (where we stayed). The website photos do not do the property justice. Dominicans are very warm and friendly people, yet there is petty theft and break-ins (as with anywhere). That being said, we felt very safe, not only because of Max the Guard Dog, but also because it would take quite the effort to reach the uphill property. Clyde was a very hospitable host, a self-made builder, who has put thoughtful energy into his surroundings and business. He explained to us his vision of a gazebo to encompass the existing portable hot tub, as well as an in-ground pool with suspended deck overlooking the Caribbean Sea. We can only hope that he will keep his rental prices affordable after these upgrades are made. :) Adding to that point, Dominica is a very affordable country for the budget traveler (getting there is another story). What I like best about this country is the simplicity of life. It doesn't offer miles and miles of pristine white sandy beaches and there aren't any major resorts or rampant corporatization. It's too earthy and raw for that- it's not called the Nature Island for nothing! So, in effect, it doesn't necessarily cater to a particular traveler, those who have expectations similar to St. Barts or St. Lucia, but instead, to those who come for it's Nature and adventure. And, that's a good thing! I want the affordability and character of this amazing place to stay the same.

    Basia2014-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • We met Clyde briefly during our stay and he was very nice! The grounds of the apartments are are very pretty and sit high on a hill. You should definitely have your own 4x4 car if you want to get around the roads of Dominica! However, the apartment has very little ambiance. It was perfect if you just want a place to sleep for a reasonable price but we didn't want to hang out or relax there. Very few amenities... No ice trays, no clothes line to dry your garments( there was a rusty rack you could set up, but an actual line would be better), no door mat or rugs... The bedroom had air conditioning and that was nice for a couple nights and the bed was comfortable. I did have a hard time getting a response from Clyde at times during the initial planning process. When we arrived at 2pm on the day of check in, there was nobody around and all the rooms were dirty... With that being said, we called Clyde and he answered immediately but couldn't be back for a couple hours. So, our room wasn't ready until close to 5pm. I would suggest Clyde setting a check in time before hand so you know when to arrive.

  • This was a great place to stay ,marvellous view and lovely gardens. Clyde was a great host and incredible when the oven stopped working. We returned from our day out to find he had installed a brand new stove-fantastic. Anne and David Mathews

  • Clyde rents out 4 or 5 apartments and is currently constructing another one. The apartment we had is spacious, but could have been more clean overall. Clyde is a great host that is always there for you for advice and tips.

  • DONT'T GO TO THIS PLACE !!! The day we arrived, we didn't had any news from the owner. We tried to contact her the day before and and the D day but had no answer. We had to find someone who explained us how to find the man who was in charge to open the door (15min away by car). Finally, he didn't know we were arriving this day !!! Strangely, the owner called us just 5 minutes after that ! We rented this house for 7 people, 4 adults and the children's but there wasn't enough bed (3 beds instead of the 4 announced), 4 plates for 7 people and glasses in the kitchen, towels for the bath, etc... The waste water go straight in front of the veranda so imagine after 3 days …. just a lake of waste water (what a beautiful view !!!!) with hundreds of mosquitoes … At 200US a day, I guess there is better places to stay around … And finally, the day we leaved the house everything was OK with the person in charge of the house but after 3 days she asked us to pay 100US$ for a napkin and a bed spread !!!!

Post-Hurricane Maria Update: Caapi Cottage will re-open Dec 1st 2017. This cool, quiet mountain retreat is beside the National Park, hiking trails, waterfalls and rivers. Enjoy the large private pool and ethnobotanical gardens. There's a kitchen and full bathroom, one bedroom and sleeping loft, a Queen bed and one double. Large stone verandah and BBQ. Sleeps 4 adults comfortably or a family with 2 - 3 kids. Off-grid powered by renewable energy. To Roseau in 25 minutes. Owners live on property.
Post-Hurricane Maria Update: Caapi Cottage will re-open Dec 1st 2017. (We were one of the more fortunate properties in Dominica and sustained very little damage to the buildings, which remained strong. Only minor repairs were required.) The Caapi Cottage is nestled on a lush green plateau above a waterfall, which provides the renewable energy for the property. It has a private kitchenette and bathroom, and a bedroom with a sleeping loft. It can sleep 4 adults comfortably or a family (baby crib is available). The cottage has a stone floor, local hardwood ceiling and shutters with a view of the Caribbean Sea and an extensive botanical garden in the back. There are no neighbours for one kilometer, just trees, streams, a waterfall, duck pond and fish pond. An avocado tree and mature caapi vine shade the cottage from the elements, keeping it cool both day and night. No fan or air conditioning is ever needed.
The property is a 5 minute drive, or 25 min. walk to the start of the popular "Middleham Falls" hiking trail. We are less than a 10 minute walk to the village of Cochrane, where there are little shops for purchasing dry goods and snacks and a couple local rum shops. Please note: Since Hurricane Maria hit Dominica on September 18th, 2017 many of the trails and attractions have been closed for repairs and rehabilitation. We are a 20 minute drive to the Capital town of Roseau and the ferry terminal. We are a one hour drive to the Melville Hall airport.
  • Thank you so much Jessica for an amazing stay, the absolute highlight of our trip and a life shifting experience! I felt immediately at peace, connected to nature and for the first time in so long, was able to feel centered. Golden! Thank you for your warm hospitality, helpfulness with connecting us to amazing hikes, yoga, scuba diving besides all you provide at your absolutely magical home and area! A dip in the pool, dinners outside, watching sunsets, your sweet dog, Luna, sunsets in the hammock, all our children smiling at simple moments together, all unplugged and in touch with something beautiful at your home. Thank you so much, truly lifechangingBlessings to you!

  • We recently returned from the most physically demanding(by choice)vacation that we have ever taken. Tim and Jessica's cottage was a welcome sight after spending our days hiking, playing in the waterfalls, snorkelling and rapelling/canyoning. The cottage was in a perfect location to create a day trip to Boiling Lake, Freshwater Lake and Boeri Lake, Champagne Reef and Scott's Head, Extreme Dominica, and Mero Beach. The pool was a wonderful cooldown after our daily outings. We tried several of Jessica's recommendations for lunch and all were superb. We used the small kitchen nearly every night, preparing meals while watching the beautiful Caribbean sunsets. We have never stayed in such a peaceful location. Thank you!

  • Caapi cottage was idyllic. We arrived an hour before we said we would and there was no problem. The mattress was probably the most comfortable mattress i've ever slept on, and definitely the most comfortable during our three weeks in Dominica. The location is great - easy to get to much of the hiking and anything you need from town isn't far either and the VIEW was stunning, we often just sat on our patio admiring it to the sound of the birds in abundance nearby. You have everything you need in the kitchen and the hosts are happy to advise on things to do in the area. So much care has gone into creating a beautiful cottage. The garden is full of a variety of fruit trees and the pool is big and deep, with a springy wooden diving board. It's incredibly peaceful. We couldn't have asked for more - thank you so much!

  • Our stay at the Cottage was just fantastic and emotionnal, and became a wonderful experience. The cottage is the perfect place to discover the absolute beauty of Dominica, and each day was full of unexpected joys. Jess & Tim are adorable, present and discreet, always ready to help. Thanks to them we felt gratified and lucky to be there. I just can recommand this place & wish everyone to live a moment up here in Caapi !

  • Such a unique place with lots of character! Jessica and Tim were so welcoming and helpful. The property is exactly what you see in the pictures (and a even more beautiful view in person). When my husband and I first arrived Tim gave us a tour of the property. There's so many different types of plants that grow in their back yard. Some I've never heard of before. Jessica was very helpful with directions and was so friendly. We loved their dog, Luna too. The cottage is far enough away from the city to feel secluded but close enough to lots of adventures (hikes, snorkeling, canyoning, Roseau etc). This felt like a secret cottage. We would definitely stay here again when we visit Dominica again. Thanks Jessica and Tim!!

  • This place is truly a rare find...beyond amazing view, peaceful, surrounded by natural beauty, & wonderful hosts! Jessica was a wonderful communicator & she & her husband Tim went above & beyond to make sure our stay was wonderful. From the moment we arrived, I felt an instant peace come over me. We were greeted with such kindness & a welcoming presence. The cottage has so much character & we loved the feel of this place. It has windows/shutters all the way around it that can be opened for fresh, clean air anytime of day. We loved walking the property & picking fresh fruits to juice & taking in all the beauty. This is truly a one of a kind type of place. We were bummed when it was time to leave & only wish we could have stayed longer. I hope we can return one day...this would definitely be my first choice to stay in Dominica & I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a peaceful escape.

    Jonas2017-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Location: fantastic views of the ocean and situated in lush tropical forest. Near to a small village but requires a car to travel further afield. Close to Middleham Falls. Lodging: stylish, clean and comfortable house. Good basic kitchen and shower. Perfect for a couple or those with a child (upstairs bunk). Lovely pool, natural wood fired hot tub, lots of fruit trees and a lovely garden to have a tour around. Ask about the magic tree! Hosts very welcoming and friendly, happy to take us to trail heads and show us around. Overall a very relaxed and enjoyable stay! The views are as good if not better than the pictures!
