The Peacock House is located within the Lismore Demesne. It was once the dairy and workers cottage. From the 1980s onwards it was used to house peacocks, giving the cottage its name. After being left dormant for 80 years it was lovingly restored three years ago. These days it is a bright and cozy cottage offering tranquil views of mature trees and park land. There is private access to forest walks along the Doney Stream just outside the doorstep.
Cavan is famous for it many lakes, offering fishing, water sports and walking trails. The Peacock House is ideally located for guests who are attending events in Farnham Estate and Kilmore Hotel.
  • Such a beautiful cottage in lovely countryside, the house is really cosy, fully equipped with wellies and a basket of slippers, log stove in the main room - which Richard & Sonya keep fully stocked with logs! Would definitely recommend for a quiet country stay in relaxed surroundings

  • Beautiful surroundings. Well stocked. Very welcoming. Loved all the animals. Great location

    Sean2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely house. Beautiful log fire and views of the countryside and farm. Lovely and quiet. Added bonus was the Nespresso coffee machine and all the kitchen amenities and leaving breakfast in the fridge for us to cook the next morning was a great touch. Really fast and responsive hosts when communicating. Great stay.

  • This little house is an amazing place to stay. With a full kitchen, lounge room, deck area, fields to walk in, chickens to watch, donkeys to pet, you couldn’t want for more! Sonya is a fabulous host making sure you are toasty and warm with a fire and have everything you need including eggs fresh from the rescue chickens for breakfast. The space is modern but homely - I cannot recommend this place highly enough!

  • Quiet, cosy location. Unusual and interesting property. Sonya is a thoughtful and attentive host. I really enjoyed my stay and would stay again.

  • The perfect getaway to a country cottage. Sonya and Richard we're super accommodating, very friendly with attention to detail. The cottage was perfect, spotlessly clean and with all the amenities you would need. I was pleasantly surprised with the touches Sonya left, the breakfast foods, the coffees, the juice etc. It was a cold February weekend and Sonya ensured to keep the fire going for us even if we were not at the cottage which was lovely. We were there for a Wedding near by in Farnham Estate and they even brought us to the venue on the day. The whole place was so cosy, I had a great nights sleep in the bed and there is a pub across the road which is good for a drink or some food and its only 10 mins from Cavan town. We had a busy weekend and unfortunately did not get to explore the land around the cottage, but I will most definitely be back to explore further. I have been singing it's praises so much that friends have just booked to go to Peacock lodge in 2 weeks time. :) Thank you

  • For us it was the pefect place to stay. We had a great time exploring the area and relaxing in the evening "at home".

    Birgit2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I were visiting family in Cavan and Ann Marie's place was perfectly located for easy travel to and from relatives. Ann Marie was extremely prompt in her responses and we were greeted in person by her parents who were very hospitable throughout our stay whilst also allowing us our personal space. The place was immaculate, wonderfully cosy and the thoughtful additional touches such as scones, biscuits and toiletries were much appreciated! Although we had rented the car, the local bus route was also at our convenience. We would definitely recommend staying here and would happily stay again on our next trip to Cavan!

The place itself was lovely and in immaculate condition. It has everything you need for a night away. The wood fire that was prepared and ready to light on arrival was a lovely touch and really helped us enjoyed our evening. It was so well equipped and Maria had some lovely little extra thoughtful touches to make our stay even more memorable. The Pod is finished to an exceptionally high standard and it is evident that a lot of time and money has been put into it to make it as comfortable for guests as possible. We found it really cozy & relaxing. It has everything we needed and was completely spotless. • Kathleen’s place was wonderful. My stay was middle of winter and my room was bright and cozy. It’s sparkling clean and she was cleaning every time I saw her. The shower had lots of hot water. She was wonderfully friendly and fast at communication. The walk to city center took no time and the food was excellent. I booked for only one night but I wish I could stay longer and plan to come back. A great Airbnb experience! Thank you Kathleen!

  • Charlie was an amazing host , very helpful and extremely friendly. Explained everything on arrival, had the fire lit the apartment was lovely and cosy. He had food and snacks for us so we didn’t need to run to the shop as we landed late enough. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

  • Bluebell Farm is a beautiful, authentic Irish farm set in the countryside. The apartment we stayed in was completely self contained and had everything you could ask for amenity wise, plus lots of extras such as great selection of board games and books, netflix and a really generous welcome hamper filled with eggs, bread, cereal, tea, coffee + loads else which is more than we could ask for and saved having to worry about popping to shop etc. Charlie kindly offered to take us around the farm which we loved and even provided us with some wellies! My little girl loved seeing the animals, walking around the grounds and Charlie was an interesting, informative guide as well as a great host, and we appreciated the time took to show us around. Ate in nearby Kierans restaurant as recommended by Charlie, really impressed by food and was reasonably priced too. All in all, great place to stay in the monaghan / cavan area, or even just a great spot to go if you fancy a break away from everyday life in a peaceful, serene setting.

He not only gave us lift to and fro from the house since we didn't have a car, he also showed us around the town and introduced us to some of the most interesting people. • Amazing stay! Everything is as pictured and more. Their dog, Holly is incredibly sweet, friendly and so much fun- she accompanied me on a run and is the best thing ever. I was made to feel like I was a part of the household- we played games together, had tea together, and just chatted. I learned the game Rummikub and gained some pool-playing tips and skills, and overall just had such a warm experience. The room is cozy and has a window that looks out into the green hills, the house is cozy, and I would absolutely recommend this home and the hosts to anyone. Their breakfast is delicious and I had everything I needed! I will miss it all!

  • This is a beautiful cottage in an area with a lot to offer . We had some lovely family time there and hopefully will return someday to do and see more . Aidan and Catherine are extremely unobtrusive and the animals , and the fact that our own dog came with us , really made it very special for the children .

  • Siobhan's place is like a hidden gem in the countryside. Just an hour from Dublin city you will find yourself totally immersed in mother nature - organic vegetable farm, beautiful green scenery and surrounded by animals. I booked a massage from Siobhan at very last minute and she was so accommodating. The massage was definitely a highlight, I felt totally being looked after - physically as well as spiritually. Then, Siobhan's mom walked me through their organic farm where there is so much variety of vegetables and herbs, you name it they have it. You will get to eat whatever is in season - without any nasty pesticides! The room itself is sparkling clean, the kitchen is a communal area where you get to interact with different guests from different places. Lastly, if these wouldn't convince you to have a stay, I don't know what will.

    Mable2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • I can highly recommend this place! Siobhan and her family are very kind and lovely people. They were extremely helpful and really made me feel at home. Their place is quietly located, in a beautiful area surrounded by nature. It's the ideal spot to just kick back, relax and enjoy the amazing scenery. I will definitely return again in the future!

Quiet, cosy and romantic, it boasts many authentic features (cob walls, open fireplace, exposed beams) that transport you back to old Ireland! Includes modern conveniences for comfort. Unwind, relax and kick back in this very special property. If you're intrigued by Irish history and want to experience old Ireland, or if you're seeking artisitc inspiration - this place is for you. Authentically furnished with pretty patterns and traditional textures, the cottage has three bedrooms and can accommodate up to six people. The kitchen is well equipped and the bathroom cosy with a large shower. The main living area is true to traditional form: open fireplace, drop-leaf sliding dining table (to create space for Irish dancing and singing), timber mezzanine walkway, Irish trinkets on shelves, exposed beams, curved cob ceilings, cute sash windows and the famous Bodhrán (Irish musical drum). All this, with the sensitive introduction of modern conveniences to ensure a comfortable, safe, enjoyable stay. With links to the Irish Department for Culture and Heritage, it's the only rentable thatched cottage in the whole of County Longford! Renovated using century-old techniques, local building materials and labour, you'll be able to touch and smell 24" thick walls made from mud and straw. You'll be able to experience living under a thatched roof made from Irish reed; make your own fire in the open fireplace by hand selecting your Irish turf blocks from the 'home-pile' and experience the aroma of burning peat - a familiar smell for Irish inhabitants for thousands of years. Intimate tours can be arranged with the host (popular stonemason, poet and history buff) who can answer most questions about local and Irish history - a rare character. He can also show you his private collection of traditional Irish farming implements (free on request), the Haggard (on-site arts/entertainment space, on request) and if you ask...he'll even demonstrate the Bodhrán drum! Freshly ironed bed linen, extra towels, blankets and basic toiletries provided. Free off-road parking (up to 4 cars). Alternative sleeping arrangements can be organised on request. This is 'the' quintessential, immersive, Irish experience.
The cottage is located in a small, tight-knit community who will welcome you with open arms. Local shop (4 min walk), Arvagh town (5 min drive - pharmacy, pubs, banks, post office, petrol station), larger towns of Longford or Cavan (30 min drive). Nearest pub (5 min drive). Arvagh is famous for being the only place in Ireland where you can stand where three provinces meet (Ulster, Leinster and Connacht). For walkers: there's Bruse Mountain, many lakes (e.g. Lough Gowna), beautiful Irish countryside with trails. Fishermen: you'll be spolit for choice. Interested in history, there's: heritage sites including Aughnacliffe’s 5,000-year-old portal dolmen, abbey ruins, Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre (Iron-Age bog road) and more. Explorers and Sports: kyaking, boating, water sports, equestrian, golf, hiking & cycling. Fun lovers: sample Ireland's finest, rural pubs and local hospitality. Don't mention the Guinness?! Nearby: Lough Rynn Castle - a luxury castle hotel on the shores of Lough Rynn, Leitrim (20 min drive). The birthplace of 'Margaret of New Orleans' in Carrigallan (10 min drive). Lady Baltimore's Statue in Bornacoola (20 min drive). For those attending functions or require accommodation for fishing parties, the cottage is an ideal choice.
  • Lovely cottage with a great host! It has everything we need for a nice stay. A gem!

  • The cottage is an authentic experience for sure! Michael was a fantastic host. Its clear he's very passionate about the cottage and surrounding areas. Filled with local knowledge, and history he's happy to share. Lovely little touches like fresh butter and bread were much appreciated. Very helpful and accommodating to all our questions!

    Finola2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed in the cottage with the family was a great Irish experience and Mick remarkable hosting and storytelling provided a wonderful time during the storm Dennis. Mick had always the Little touch to bring into life each objects in the house and the surrounding. We stayed 3 nights, a group of 6 (3 adults and 3 children) I really recommend it to disconnect from day to day activities.

    Rony2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We spent two nights at Nanny Murphys and we couldnt recommend it enough! Mick had the fire and candles lit for us, as well as leaving some local bread and jams for us to sample!! We stayed during a very cold snap in January but the cottage was very warm and cosy at all times. Mick helped us with ordering taxis and sending us in the right direction for some hikes and local attractions. The cottage is a "one of a kind" find that really holds on to a traditional Irish feel. There is a local shop within a 2 min drive if you need anything, with a larger town 10min drive away. We will definitely be coming back!

    Therese2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful break at the most gorgeous and cozy cottage you will find in Longford. Michael was super welcoming, funny and dedicated host. He contacted us ahead of time to make sure we had the directions and had the cottage ready with candles lit and a fireplace warming out all the home. He also left for us some delicious local treats (marmalade – bread – milk – butter as well other pantry goods..) Staying in that location is a true time trip in time but with the amenities and commodities of the modern day home, a unique experience that we will repeat for sure!

    Pat2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Michael was an amazing host. He made us feel at home straight away. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and Michael should be very proud of his achievement of rebuilding this wonderful thatched cottage. He was a fountain of knowledge and history, providing tips of where to go and places to see. Definitely a home away from home. Thanks again Michael x

    Paula2020-01-01T00:00:00Z

Albertine Lodge is named after a beautiful rambling rose which summer guests will see in bloom along with plenty of other scented and colourful flowers in the garden. • Travelled with a group of 8 friends and a toddler to Albertine Lodge and it was a perfect stay. The location was very easy to find. The size of the house comfortably fit all of us and had all the facilities we needed. It was freezing outside but the house was extremely well heated. The hosts were very quick at replying to queries we had over the whole weekend. They even accommodated early check in and late check out as it suited the needs of some of the guests. Highly recommend. Thanks again Francis and Fiona!

  • We went here for an extended family weekend - 6 adults and 4 little kids. It was such a lovely stay. The house is perfectly laid out. Fiona and Francis were so attentive and responsive. Great value, great location, great hosts. Can’t recommend it enough

  • This is an amazing place to stay. My friends and I spent the weekend at Albertine Lodge, during Storm Ciera, and it couldnt have been more cosy and welcoming. Fiona and Francis made sure we were warm and the fire was well-stoked. It's a very beautiful, traditional home. The sort of place I've dreamed of all my life. I would recommend it highly.

  • Gorgeous house, spotlessly clean and loads of room. We got mini bus into Carrick for one night and were given great recommendations for restaurant and local pubs. Would definitely recommend the house and the fantastic hosts who were more than helpful. Thanks for a lovely stay!!

    Gillian2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The house is perfect. It is even bigger than we expected with loads of bedrooms and toilets, a very cosy sitting room, and a huge open kitchen/dining area. The location is really close to a few towns so you are near anything you might need. The best part about the experience was the hosts - they thought of absolutely everything (e.g. they had the fire on and kettle boiled for us when we arrived, they made books of suggestions for anything you could need), and were really easy to contact when needed. Overall, the cleanliness and attention to detail was on par with any hotel, but it was also a very cosy, homey space. Will definitely be back!

  • The Albertine Lodge was a beautiful home just 10 minutes away from the quaint town of Carrick-on-Shannon. We were a family of 7 so it provided everyone with their own rooms and plenty of room to hang out in as well. Lovely accommodations and very clean. Francis and Fiona left local goodies for us upon our arrival. Francis went above and beyond in providing us with suggestions of things to do in the area, as well as being readily available for any questions we had. We had an amazing time and only wish we could have stayed longer!

Carrick on Shannon, County Roscommon, Ireland

A family holiday home, accessed by a private lane, and situated in an attractive orchard garden beside the shore of Lough Sheelin. Light and airy in summer, it's cosy in winter with an open fire, but needs redecoration; old fashioned home comforts. Crover House is 5 minutes away, so we provide a convenient base for guests attending weddings there. Arley offers a relaxing rural stop-over for visitors exploring the Wild Atlantic Way and west or north west destinations. Dublin Airport 68 miles.
A generous size twin bedroom with a wash basin; also a very pleasant single bedroom. Guests have sole use of the bathroom, as well as shared use of the living room. Other than visitors attending weddings, anticipated guests are fly fishers visiting Lough Sheelin, for whom advice and fishing records going back to 1960s are available. Packed lunches / teas can be provided, with a Kelly's Kettle and full basket.
"The Garden of Eden is vanished they say, But I know where it remains still. From Granard turn left at the bridge of Finea, And you will find it half way to Cootehill." So Percy French wrote in his ballard Come Back Paddy Reilly to Ballyjamesduff. And Arley is that halfway point on the map! The immediate locality around Lough Sheelin is most attractive, as well as being famous for its wild brown trout fishing. Additionally, there is plenty to interest passing visitors; the Loughcrew Megalithic Cairns, Mullaghmeen Forest Park and Fore Abbey are close by, and the house provides a convenient overnight near to the Boyne Valley Drive. Just to the north, the Cavan Burren, Florence Court and the Marble Arch Caves are a firm favourite with visitors. If you enjoy birdsong, love water fowl (grebe, mallard, with wintering visitors) and wildlife (we have red squirrel, pine martin, and buzzards, as well as foxes!) this is a location that you will enjoy. The Cavan County Museum, nearby at Ballyjamesduff, is well worth a visit - and it has a section devoted to Percy French!

  • I stayed with Patrick at Arley Lodge for 3 nights at the end of May for The Mayfly fishing on Lough Sheelin. Patrick was a fantastic host from start to finish and was very hospitable in terms of checking in/out. The accommodation was ideal for my purpose, as I had sole use of the harbour at Arley Point which was a matter of yards from the property. Patrick provided a cooked breakfast on all 3 mornings and even added his own personal touch with his herbs from the garden to accompany his delicious omelettes. Advice & assistance was also given regarding the local area and many stories were shared regarding the fishing on Sheelin, upon which he was very knowledgeable. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Arley Lodge and couldn’t recommend it highly enough. 5 ⭐️

Dotted with shimmering lakes and rivers, this area of Ireland is a genuine boaters’ paradise. THE SHANNON-ERNE WATERWAY The Shannon-Erne Waterway traverses 62.5 kms of lake and river and still canal sections. With 16 fully automatic locks, 34 stone bridges and 6 fully serviced mooring areas, the waterway invites you to enjoy cruising, fishing, walking cycling, canoeing, golf and horse riding along Europe's longest navigable Inland waterway. Work on the original canal started in 1846 and took 14 years to complete. The dream of permanently joining the great Rivers Shannon and the Erne was fulfilled. However the canal remained open for only 9 years as the age of steam and the railways rendered the canal redundant. However, in 1994 the canal re-opened, and now pleasure cruisers ply the old waterway once again. The waterway exquisitely weaves together the streams, rivers and lakes which are picturesquely scattered between Leitrim Village and the Erne. Sixteen locks will ensure the waterway is viable and the variety of landscape and wildlife, as well as the great historical and archaeological sites en route, guarantee the popularity of this superb and peaceful highway. For the first time in 150 years, 300km of navigable waterway can be enjoyed by lovers of walking, cycling, canoeing and sailing. RIVER ERNE Eighty-four km of the River Erne is navigable from Belturbet to Belleek in Co Fermanagh. There is only one lock on the system, Portora Lock. Services are located at many locations along the river. Having been a trade route for the Vikings, the Erne system has never been a modern commerical navigation. It is truly unspoilt and tranquil leisure oriented expanse of water for boating enthusiasts and game and coarse anglers. • We had a lovely stay over New Years Eve and my husbands birthday. The chalet is beautiful and tastefully decorated. The kitchen has all the utensils you need to stay in and cook and the living room heats up quickly when the stove is lit. Beautiful views and the doggies really enjoyed themselves too! Liz and Susie were so accomodating with early check in and late check out and messages were replied to really quickly. We will highly recommend and hopefully be back soon.

  • Delightful chalet in a perfect peaceful location, in a small gated private estate, beside River and forest. Great communication form Liz and Suzie, we had self check in and found the house easily. We loved the layout, open plan kitchen diner, with wood burning stove. Stove kept us so toasty, so we didn't need the electric radiators. Views of the river erne from the sitting room and veranda. We had everything we needed, best equipt rental we have ever stayed at. Surprised to find a bottle of wine, enough tea, coffee, hand soap, toilet rolls, wood for the stove ect... to get us started. We brought our own as other reviews said there were no basic supplied. Everything was perfect, It could not have been better. We booked activities (clay pigeon shooting and buggy karts) in an Adventure centre that is 20mins drive, which was excellent. I totally recommend this house for family getaways. We would definetly return.

  • The space is very nice and buzzing. The shawl is very close to the lake and has some walking gear like safety boots and jackets. Clean space and all necessary utensils. Super indicate!

  • Liz’s cabin is great! Our family had a wonderful stay at the cabin. Great location by the river and not to far off the main road but feels private.

    Kevin2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful 3 night stay. We also had a small toddler with us and the secured balcony was fantastic for him to be able to potter around. The house was like home from home and so cosy. We cannot wait to return. Thanks again Liz and Martina.

18th century coachhouse with modern & clean decor set in 25 acres of our organic beef farm. Coachhouse is a separate 2 storey building with private entrance with 2 bedrooms with open plan sitting room. Local amenities include fishing, walking, golf, horse riding & water sports . The property at front is vicarage built ca. 1780 is main family home and in the rear courtyard is the coachouse. There are 2 great village pubs & supermarket within walking distance - nearby is swimming pool, cinema etc.
The coachhouse was built over 200 years ago which was the servants quarters on 1st floor with animal housing below. Building has original limestone cut stone exposed on interior living area with original stoneworks on the exterior.
Our countryside is very typical of County Monaghan with drumlin rolling hillside, green pastures and lakes and rivers every few miles. Our area is very much rural Ireland where farming and agri-farming plays a key role in the locals livelihoods. People are very friendly, helpful and always take time to speak to visitors.
  • My sister and I came up for a couple of nights looking to get away from Dublin. This is a stunning space, Joan and Martin have done a fantastic job of creating a cozy and modern space within this old outbuilding. It was quiet and comfortable, just what we were looking for!

  • We spent one night with our 3 children while attending a local event. The accommodation was all I expected and more from reading the previous reviews. It was lovely and warm and cozy on a stormy night. Everything we needed was provided. Excellent audiovisual set-up as well. We’ll be looking for an excuse to come back and explore Monaghan.
