Places to stay in Chimo
This small studio is Ideal for nature lovers and bird watchers. One must be in decent physical shape for the ten minute hike up to the cabin. The cabin is located up above the village and overlooks the trees and ocean beyond. It includes: one double bed, two hammaks, kitchenette, half bath, and patio with chairs for lounging. There is now wifi in the cabin.
The cottage can comfortably accommodate 1 or 2 adults. It has a ceiling fan and a portable pedestal fan for the bed. It can be hot and humid in the summer months. It has electricity, and is equipped with a double gas burner, a fridge, dishes, pots, pans and kitchen utensils, so it is entirely possible to cook your own meals for the duration of your stay. If you don't want to cook, we can arrange meals with one of the neighbors. We will be happy to get you the groceries you desire, subject to availability. However you must give us a few days notice and a shopping list. If there is a particular food item you can’t live without which might not be found in Pizota or Yelapa, then we recommend that you bring it with you from Puerto Vallarta. The cottage is about a 10-minute hike up the mountain from the beach. It has lovely views of lush foliage and the ocean beyond. Our home is located about 100 feet behind the cabin. We have not had any problems with theft, but please be aware that there is no means of locking up your valuables, so we recommend that you find a good hiding place for them within the hut or take them with you when you are away. The bed has a mosquito net over it so that you will not be bothered by mosquitoes while sleeping. Mosquitoes are primarily an issue in the summer months. In the mornings and evenings you will probably be most comfortable if you have long pants and long-sleeved shirts to wear. We have a natural spring up the mountain where Pizota supplies it's water. We filter this spring water and supply it to our family and our guests. If you are uneasy about this, buy bottled water from the village store. The bathoom and kitchen sink have running hot and cold water from the spring. The shower and faucets have hot water supplied by a propane water heater. Sheets, towels and blankets are provided for you. It is warm and lovely in Pizota year-round, but in the winter the nights can be cool. In addition to all the usual things you would take on a trip to Mexico, we recommend that you bring sunscreen, mosquito repellent, earplugs, a hat, long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, a fleece and a flashlight.
The neighbors sometimes play music. There are roosters and dogs in the village below that can be noisy. There are lots of birds and insects that make sounds night and day. Earplugs are a good thing to bring if you are a light sleeper. There is no bank in either Yelapa or Pizota — Puerto Vallarta is where the closest bank is — so do remember to bring enough cash for the time you will be in Pizota. Pizota has two small stores with a limited inventory, although almost anything can be ordered from the store if you intend to stay for a while. The local stores sell mexican food supplies and beer, tequila, and wine.
  • Mateo and his wife Vanessa were both wonderful hosts and our stay in Pizota was unforgettable. Friendly locals and only a few other tourists, private beaches, and surrounding jungle made this place truly special. The shower overlooking the jungle and ocean with a surplus of hot water was a bonus. The kitchen was equipped with everything you need, and the blender was great for making fresh salsas and fruit smoothies. Taking the ten minute boat taxi to yelapa for groceries is pretty convenient, however there are two small tiendas in town with limited supplies. Looking forward to coming back someday!

  • Great place to relax, bird watch, and catch great views. Even nicer than it looks in the pictures! Has a great open air feel and Vanessa and Mateo added nice touches like passionfruit, grapefruit, and a hibiscus flower to make us feel at home. Well stocked with spices, cooking utensils, dishes, and basics and even some of the other supplies a traveler might need-such as bug spray and sunscreen. Comfy hammocks!! Kind and helpful hosts. If you're coming straight from the airport make sure you build in plenty of time to get to the water taxi. Had a great stay!

  • If you want to rest this accommodation is ideal since you have a very pleasant experience and even bathing it is as if you were part of the mountain since you have all the view of it

  • This is truly an experience that we hope any fellow traveller takes advantage of! Mateo and his family are so kind and welcoming and create an amazing atmosphere to relax and see Mexico in a totally unique way! Taking the boat Pizota starts the trip off exciting and you will not regret heading to a remote area. The people are friendly and the beaches are beautiful! 10 out of 10 for this awesome hut in a jungle atmosphere. We will be back.

  • This place is amazing. We planned on staying 2 nights and ended up staying 5 because it was so great! The hut has everything you need, including a nice outdoor bathroom and shower. We had great beach time, cooked up a fresh catch from the village fishermen everyday, snd even saw humpbacks everyday from the beach (it was calving season!). Mateo and Vanessa were lovely hosts. Will definitely return. Thanks again!

  • Mateo and his family are very welcoming and friendly! They helped us out alot during our trip. Mateo's family brought us fresh jungle fruits and Mateo even got us fresh fish and mint tea when we wanted it. Make sure you bring plenty of your own food! We did not and were vastly underprepared! Thankfully, Mateo and his family helped us get some food. He even ordered us a water taxi and helped us out with firewood. The view is stunning and the sound of the ocean is wonderful!

  • Mateo and Vanessa are gracious and generous hosts. The palapa is very special- rustic but very thoughtfully put together. The pots, pans and dishes are of very good quality, the bed is comfortable and the gas shower works really well. Pizota is a very interesting place, where a hand full of foreigners live among locals. Mateo checks on his guests every day and often invite his guests to join his beautiful family- he has 5 children, all of them a joy to be around. Safe water (from a spring) and a nice stocked kitchen including coffee was a big plus. The 10 minute walk down to the beach may be challenging to some and the mosquitos and flies can be a bit of a nuisance but that is country living. I will sure return to this paradise.

  • Mateo and Vanessa are such kind and generous hosts, and the whole family made us feel so welcome. They really go above and beyond in every way. Staying in their cabin surrounded by the jungle is a truly magical experience. It is so comfortable and you will find everything you need in there. Being surrounded by the huge trees, birds, and wildlife all day, and getting to know the family and the little community was such a special experience. The beaches are gorgeous. The village is very small and not touristy at all. You can always take a water taxi to Yelapa 10 min away if you need anything else or want to enjoy restaurants, shops, etc. My 5 year old daughter and I stayed 10 days in Pizota and can’t wait for our next visit. Thank you so much Vanessa and Mateo! Neva and I are so appreciative of everything.

This hut is located 10 minutes up a rugged mountian trail from the Pizota beach. One must be in good phisical shape to do this short hike. The hut has hot and cold running water, a small propane stove, and WiFi service.
This small hut is surrounded by trees full of singing birds. From the patio, one can enjoy an amazing panaramic view of the sea below.
There is another hut within 50 meters of this hut. It is listed on airbnb as "Cabana de los Arboles".
  • What an awesome palapa and pueblo to spend four days in! This palapa was truly perfect for us-- an adventurous couple with a love of exercise and good food. The view was unbeatable and we spent a lot of time chilling in the chairs on the edge of the hill watching the waves, the whales, and the jungle wildlife go by. The kitchen was well stocked with all the tools we needed to cook! We cooked two meals a day on the camp stove, made coffee in the french press every morning, and enjoyed the water from the mountain spring. We came prepared with a good amount of groceries from Puerto Vallarta including coffee, butter, yogurt, and granola (things that weren't as readily available in Pizota). With a little help from Vanessa and Mateo, we bought food from the village that was amazing-- fresh tortillas, farm eggs, limes, and best of all, the several different varieties of fish that the fisherman caught each day. The walk up and down the hill was a great way to get some daily exercise but as other reviews have mentioned, you must be able-bodied to get up to the house. Bring a head lamp or two if you want to venture down to the beach at night. All of that is to say, our experience would not have been so magical without the hospitality and kindness of Vanessa, Mateo, and their entire family. Being welcomed onto Indigenous land in this remote Pueblo of Pizota and was a gift unlike any other. We will have these memories with us forever. Muchisimas gracias a todo la gente de Pizota!

  • This place is a dream. We enjoyed panoramic views to the water while whales surface in the distance. Fires every night with sunsets while eating fresh caught fish. And daily interactions with people who live up the mountain. It has a beautiful village/neighborhood feeling that differs from the place we stayed last. It's easy to swing by other palapas to talk with people, and kids drop by the palapa from time to time, which was a complete delight for us. AND, you have privacy, with the sides of the house blocking most views so you can hang out nude in privacy (which is the curteous thing to do to others.) People always (often) give a good verbal warning before coming up on the palapa, so you won't be surprised. Sometimes people from Chimo (down the coast) will come through to sell hot tamales or flan or something delicious that they made. Some caution: this is definitely up the mountain, and requires able-bodiness to enjoy. The trails are steep, and might be difficult to do repeatedly if your body doesn't have mobility, strength or flexion. It was only about a 10 minutes walk from the beach, and we walk barefoot, but I was sick one day and was really able to feel how much effort it takes to climb up to the palapa. The stairs are also pretty challenging if you don't have good knee flexion, with no landing at the top (you have to squat to step onto the third tread getting up and down.) Overall, amazing place but not for the faint of heart :)

  • We enjoyed our stay up on the hill. View was superb. The 10 minute walk up was definitely tiring but helped us stay in shape. The kitchen was def well stocked. The place felt very private, but It was convenient to have Mateo’s house nearby. He was about as good of an Airbnb host (out of at least 50) as I’ve experienced, helpful in so many ways. Loved our week long stay.

    Paul2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wow. Talk about a unique AirBnb. If you are looking to get away and experience a secluded beach on indigenous land this is your spot.

Delight yourself with the wonderful view you’ll have from this Villa in Yelapa. Villa Bambú is surrounded by nature, bamboo trees, and beautiful flowers and plants. Away from the noise of day to day life, Villa Bambú is the ideal place if you’re looking to relax, meditate, or simply enjoy spending time alone, with your partner or friends. From the gate of the property, you'll find a stone path with steps, you'll have to go all the way up those steps to get to Villa Bambú.
To stay at ths beautiful Villa, all you need to bring is your willing to relax and enjoy being surrounded by nature. You'll sleep on king size bed facing the big windows for you to enjoy the views as you wake up. The Villa has a kitchen with a fridge, a microwave, coffee maker, stove and kitchenware; as well as toiletries. The bathroom is in an open space, you'll feel like you're taking a shower out in the jungle, and since the Villa is completely private, you won't have to worry about people wandering around. The Villa is located inside of a private property. In Yelapa there is only one main sreet that connects most of the town, and the main gate of the property is located on this street. From the main gate it takes around 2 - 3 minutes to to the Villa. You'll find a stone path with steps, and you'll have to go all the way up those steps to get to Villa Bambú. From the main gate of the property to the beach, it takes around 5 minutes walking, but you'll have to cross a small river in order to get to it. You can also go to town, which is around 10 minutes walking from the main gate.
Yelapa is for those who enjoy traveling and looking for remote places or havens to get away from the day to day noise and the shallowness of modern living and being able to connect with themselves and with Nature. It is located 40 minutes from Puerto Vallarta by boat, and in Yelapa there are no cars, thanks to this there is that tranquility and quiet sensation, and you’ll be able to breathe pure and fresh air. Walking with no rush and wandering around Yelapa´s little and colorful streets, you’ll get anywhere you’d like to go, from the beach, to the beautiful waterfall up in the mountain. Yelapa is known and loved by great artists, and it has been of inspiration to many, such as Bob Dylan, Dennis Hopper and many other members of the bohemian music community. If you’re wondering about food, in Yelapa you won’t find fast food chains, but local restaurants with a big variety of fresh seafood and delicious traditional dishes, either on some of the pintoresque streets in town, or by the beach, where you can relax under the sun and enjoy a refreshing beverage.
  • This is a unique home in beautiful Yelapa. It is walking distance to everything yet secluded enough that you really feel like you are in your own little world. Ariana is a lovely host!

    Christine2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • The case suenos was kept spotless by Ariana's weekly visits, muchos gracias . All the amenities of the casa exactly as pictured and described. On Arrival I was greeted by Ariana and her dog and driven by ATV taxi to the red gate of the property. Ariana and Harry the care taker were very quick in responding to minor maintenance problems and Harry even accompanied me to the clinic to translate the particulars of my foot injury history to the medical doctor, again mucho gracias.I did my own breakfast with the available kitchen utilities and had most suppers in town - which has a series of very good and reasonably priced restaurants. The bed is comfy and one can use the mosquito netting if necessary. The open air shower was nice and supplied hot water most of the time ( a short outage because of a dead battery in the on demand water heater). I did not see any scorpios during my month long stay probably because the surroundings of the houses are now regularly "fumigated". If one ( like myself) is a rather light sleeper one should bring good quality ear plugs. Sandals with tow protection and a good grip, water bootie's and back packs rather than roller suit cases are also a good idea. A head lamp is practical to light up the darker street parts and steps to the casa.

  • We stayed at Casa del la Suenos (Casa Bambu) in January 2020. Ariana and her lovely dog Serena met us and had our bags transported. The entrance to her place is on the main ‘road’, an easy 15 minute walk into the centre of town. The place is in a wonderful jungle setting, just what we were looking for. Apparently, Bob Dylan and other celebrities stayed here in the ‘60s. Older, unused structures on the sprawling property make for great photo ops, and we wandered around taking lots of photos of birds, the Elegant Trogon and Squirrel Cuckoo among our favourites. The rental suite is in a large traditional house with many levels and alcoves. It is very rustic but clean. The bed was super-comfortable and enclosed in the netting you see in the photos… although there were almost no bugs at all, anyway. The kitchen area was functional with fridge, cooktop, sink and drinking water. There were some kitchen supplies, although we ate in Town. The bathroom is adjoining the main room and it is open to the outside. There was sufficient hot water but not enough for long showers. We found it quite nice to take showers outside! To sum up, the place is what the photos show, although now there are nice windows instead of just openings. The windows don’t quite seal their openings, but Ariana said she was considering a change. She was very helpful and assured us that we should contact her if we had any needs whatsoever. She also checked on us and asked what we thought should be improved. We very much enjoyed our stay!

    Philip2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • The place is better than what you see in photos. If it is a little difficult to find the address since my boyfriend and I had to find it for ourselves from the boardwalk of the town and the town has a bit weird numbering. Fortunately it is a small town and people know where everything is. The vegetation is beautiful in the house, you have to climb some stairs to get from the entrance cancel to the room, try to go light. The house has all the necessary services to spend a comfortable and quiet, has a beautiful view of the beach and the kitchen is very well equipped. The super comfortable bed and the functional bathroom and in good condition. The space is ample and quite quiet around. The beach is super close if you go by the river side. We loved it and highly recommend it.

    Cassandra2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Villa Bambu was a great place to stoy if you want a little privacy. It's a hike up the steps to get there but for us it was worth it to have the isolation. Arianna was very helpful and quick to respond when we needed to talk to her. We plan to come back!

    Arthur2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful jungle getaway with easy access to beach and town. Here you will find a quiet space to yourself in nature. In fact, we saw iguanas, monkeys, and birds from the hammock! Must try Los Abuelos tacos in town too. Enjoy!

    Evan2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Ariana was a lovely host, and we were happy to meet her. The space is minimalist, showcasing the beauty of the surrounding jungle. The bed was comfortable and the view amazing. We were pleasantly surprised to still be able to see and hear the water while also peaceful and removed from town. The rest of the property looks amazing as well and we are excited to see it being restored. She recommended Los Abuelos for dinner, and it was absolutely outstanding.

  • Absolutely loved my stay here! After I had stayed one night I had to extend my stay by an extra night because it was so hard to leave. If sleeping in a tent is your thing then this place will be perfect on your next stay to Yelapa

    James2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Do not hesitate to visit Missael, he is a very kind and warm person, very attentive to your doubts or needs, he gives you good tips, the accommodation is very good the tents are practically new and the blankets are clean, it has an incredible view!

    Mónica2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • You can't beat the location. Right on the beach! The restaurant operates during the day from around 9-6 but that did not bother us. We were off to the side. There is a private bathroom just steps away from the tent at night and a outdoor shower if you need after bathing in the sea. The air mattress was comfortable and Very fresh sheets and blankets were provided. We only stayed one night but would have stayed more if we had time. The restaurant also gives you a 10 % discount. Staff is very pleasant and Missal is super accommodating. He offered us Great deals on tours but we only had one night so we chose to meander up the river and hang out by the beach. Highly recommend this for people on a budget who don't mind sleeping in a tent. Our things were also very safe there but we didn't bring much. Was a wonderful experience for 1 night

  • Very pleasant experience, waking up to the sound of the waves, almost alone! The environment was as described ... great for spending the evening and the morning in peace before the arrival of tourists during the day. The whole family is very friendly! Definitely to come back!

  • This location on the beach is supreme. Misa and his family at Rogelios Beach Restaurant are very considerate and serve great food! For anyone used to backpacking this place has everything you need. Thanks for a great vacation in Yelapa!

    Todd2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The location was great and the sound of ocean waves was very relaxing. The tent blow-up mat was comfortable. Only a few things could use some attention: it would be nice to have toilet seats on the commodes and the music a little quieter All in all it was a nice adventure. Thanks

    Brenda2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • I loved camping on the beach and living simply for a few days. This type of accommodation suited me and my travel style. As long as you're happy with the basics and living out in the open this is perfect for you. The inflatable bed was comfortable and the sheets were pristine. The tents are set up beside the chairs and tables of the restaurant so during the day there are lots of people around (not crowded though) and from about 5pm things quieten down. This is an ideal option if travelling on a budget, and planning to spend most of your time outdoors, which you should because this area is stunningly beautiful. I'd definitely stay here again.

    Millie2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • It's a tent on the beach with pillows and warm blanket. Everything was clean and hygienic. I wasn't expecting that to be honest. Tent is new and I had access to an outdoor shower which I didn't use but was nice to have. Got to move my tent right up to the beachfront and woke up to the most beautiful view with all types of beautiful birds chirping away. Will repeat this adventure again.

  • Great, clean place. Helpful hosts answered very quickly and were very kind and responsive. Only complaint is that on Saturday night the music in the town center is so loud until 3:30am that it was very hard to sleep

  • This is a nice apartment located right at the entrance to the village on the trail from the beach. We loved the ocean view and breeze, the comfy couch and clean modern space. We especially loved how responsive socorro was. Anytime we had a question or request soccorro was very quick to reply and made sure we had everything we needed. She is a great host. If you stay here make sure you have dinner at los abuelos restaurant which is just steps away. Their food is amazing!

Are you searching for a spectacular get-away in a magnificent natural environment with secluded golden beaches & gorgeous ocean views? One that offers a perfect mix of beauty, privacy, tranquility, outdoor adventure & romance? That also offers an open-to-nature living space but with all the comforts of home? Do you like to swim, snorkel, kayak, hike or fish? Enjoy whale-watching or hammock siestas? If yes, our spacious jungle casita, Casa de la Roca, is just the place for you!
We invite you to experience Casa de la Roca, our solar powered, palapa-roofed, open-air casita situated in a small, friendly ecological preserve (Los Chonchos) just south of Puerto Vallarta on the coast of Mexico’s Bahía de Banderas (Bay of Banderas). With awe-inspiring ocean views amidst a lush jungle setting, Casa de la Roca is one of the most private and tranquil of the casitas in Los Chonchos while, at the same time, being only a 60 second walk from the base of our stairs to the Main Beach. The combination of its vaulted palapa roof, open construction design and elevated location make Casa de la Roca a cool, dry, comfortable casita. Ocean breezes flow right through the casita, even on the hottest of days (feels fabulous when you're enjoying an afternoon siesta in your hammock!). A spacious balcony runs the entire width of the casita and provides ideal spots for relaxing or for watching whales, butterflies, tropical birds and other wildlife. There is also a back porch facing the jungle where you can relax in complete privacy. Consisting of 3 beautiful secluded beaches (Main Beach, Big Beach, Small Beach), numerous well-maintained walking trails, and two dozen private casitas, Los Chonchos offers unparalleled opportunity for relaxation, inspiration, romantic moments and outdoor adventure. Staff wait on the Main Beach for each water taxi arrival and departure in order to help get you and your luggage safely off and on the boat. They will carry your luggage to and from the casita, and help you out in any way they can on a day to day basis. About the Space There are three qualities that make our casita such a wonderful place to kick back and relax: comfort, convenience and privacy. …COMFORT The bedroom. You will have a great sleep in Casa de la Roca. The bedroom, separate from the main living area, contains a very comfortable cotton-topped queen bed and two small bedside tables with drawers to store your clothes. The living and eating areas. Our hand-made, locally built parota wood furniture is both rustic and beautiful - and the wood is locally sourced. The chair cushions are very thick and covered in indoor/outdoor fabric that is very comfortable in all weather. There is plenty of seating for you and visitors. Hot Water. There is a small gas hot water tank providing water to the bathroom and kitchen – enough hot water for doing dishes and for short warm showers. Lighting options. At night, you can choose the lighting you prefer. For a romantic, low atmosphere, go with the dim terra-cotta-ensconced wall lights. For a brighter environment simply flip on the strip lighting that runs the perimeter of the kitchen/dining/living area. A peaceful quiet environment. The casita just far enough above the beach that the sound of surf is comforting and soothing, its’ rhythm lulling you to sleep at night, even on those nights when large waves are crashing into the rocks below. Protection from the elements. With the exception of the well ventillated bathroom, the rooms have essentially no outer walls so air moves easily throughout the casita making it a very comfortable space. On the very rare occasions when it gets windy or wet, the openings are topped with full length bamboo blinds that you can let down for protection. Because the casita is elevated above the sea, the damp, salty ocean spray doesn't bother you: you and your clothes electronics, food, etc. stay dry and salt-free. Lots of personal space. We want you to feel right at home in our casita. Casa de la Roca is a Mexico themed casita and comfortably appointed. But we also leave you lots of convenient spaces so that you can spread out your personal things where they’ll be handy when you want them. There’s even a spacious low table directly under the USB plugs so your e-books, cell phones, etc. never need sit on the floor while they juice up. Security. Being sensitive to the concerns of our guests, your security and peace of mind is important to us. You need to feel safe, relaxed and worry-free in our casita. Los Chonchos is a very safe place: nevertheless, we provide you with a lock-up large enough to store all your valuables. We also provide you with a walkie talkie unit for emergencies - the matching unit resides with one of the other owners (specifics are provided upon booking). …CONVENIENCES Well equipped kitchen. Casa de la Roca’s airy kitchen is well lit and fitted with full size fridge & freezer, a 4-burner stove and oven, a double sink, a large working island, and all the cooking gear and kitchenware you’ll need. We also provide for your convenience, washable, reusable plastic kitchenware to take with you to the beach. (Please wash and return to storage space) Full bathroom. Large and comfortable, it has all you’ll need – sink, shower and toilet as well as plenty of storage space and lots of room to pamper yourself. There’s even a cushioned seat where you can sit to dry off your feet and get dressed. Conveniently, the bathroom can be directly accessed from three areas – kitchen, bedroom and back porch. NOTE: You will need to leave your blow-dryers at home as they are prohibited: like other small appliances, can fry our solar battery system. Thank you for your understanding. Towels and Linens. We provide; two each 2 beach towels, bath towels, hand towels and facecloths; sheets, blankets and pillows; a couple of tea towels and dishcloths; and pot-holders. Basic consumables. Per week we provide: 3 rolls toilet paper; 1 small container of dish-soap; liquid hand-soap for the bathroom; a 20-litre jug of drinking water, a starter amount of paper napkins. We never know exactly what is out there for salt, cooking oils, vinegars, sugars, refirigerated condiments, etc because we have no control over what guests are using or leaving behind – so if you want specific things, please bring them as you would do when camping. Consumables and groceries may be purchased in Puerto Vallarta prior to heading out to Chonchos. Or, once you have arrived in Los Chonchos, you may travel to Chimo or Yelapa for many grocery items. Also, upon request, staff may carry in supplies and groceries from Chimo when they walk in work. Please note that staff are usually hiking a heavy load over the mountain (supplies for multiple guests) so please tip generously for this convenience. Important other stuff at Casa de la Roca. • Games (chess, checkers, dominoes, etc) and playing cards. • Beach items: 2 folding beach chairs, and a woven beach mat. • 2 life vests • 2 small swimming boards • A small offering of paperbacks. • A folding drying rack and clothes pegs for your wet clothes (there are also plenty of railings where you can drape wet beach towels & wall hooks from which to hang light items (such as keys). Safety features. • First aid kit • Fire extinguishers • Walkie talkie Trash disposal and Recycling. At Los Chonchos, we do everything we can to live in harmony with the environment – that’s one of the main reasons most people own or visit here. So the community takes care to separate trash for recycling. At Casa de la Roca we provide containers for various types of trash & instructions for proper disposal. PRIVACY: Location, location, location. Being situated above the sea and the lower casitas has some very big perks! The greatest perk is that you have both total privacy and absolutely gorgeous wide-open views. You can see out, but the palm trees below block others from seeing in. Casa de la Roca sits above the foot traffic of the main trails, so you enjoy virtual seclusion. Stairway to Heaven. Of course, privacy and seclusion come at some small cost. At Casa de la Roca, the cost is a (very lovely) walk up a one hundred-step switchback stairway (complete with hardwood safety rails). It is not a very arduous walk, but it is a consideration for those with mobility issues, or those less than moderately fit. (I am over 60 and have no problem walking the stairs.) We’ve nicknamed the steps “Stairway to Heaven” because it’s such a pretty walk through dappled light, and because we think of our casita as “our little piece of heaven”. About halfway up the steps is a meditation bench which also serves as a lovely spot to pause on the way up to the casita - the birdsong at that spot is magical. Staff carry your luggage up and down the stairs at arrival and departure, so no need to worry about carrying a your things. Mobility in Los Chonchos: PLEASE NOTE: You need only be moderately fit in order to enjoy Los Chonchos & Casa de la Roca. Most people have no problems getting around Los Chonchos. If you have serious mobility problems however, please consider that you need to be able to jump off of and climb into the water taxi, and to walk trails that may include steep-ish stairs & grades. If you have any doubts, I encourage you to ask as many questions as you need before committing to a rental at Los Chonchos.
  • Casa Roca is a wnderful space. The house has everything you need, from high quality towels and sheets to a well equipted kitchen and a nice stock of condiments. Susan is a wonderful host, easy to communicate with and she is a great source of information, she send me details of what to expect and what to bring (there are not stores near the town), hot showers and amazing views. I enjoy my leazy morning watching wales and a most peaceful day at the beach. If you visit this place you must do the jungle walk to Chimo (the next little town) and visit Antonio´s restaurante, they serve the most delicious sea food!! Susan, thanks so much for hosting me and for all the information you send out to me and wonderful recommendations, thanks to you I was able to enjoy my trip to the max. Next time I will defenetly book for a longer time.

  • What a splendid week we had at Susan’s Oceanside jungle palapa! Susan provided all the helpful details to ensure an enjoyable and memorable stay, even recommending a local taxi driver and giving thorough instructions on how to best disembark the Water Taxi for a “wet” (no dock) landing. Upon arriving, a fellow palapa resident Mike and others helped us up the 112 steps to the wonderful Casa above the sea! We enjoyed the full kitchen, eating most meals out on the balcony overlooking the bay. Some mornings we got to watch the splashing fins of humpback families passing by. And then there was the delight of seeing an iguana climb down the palm tree just a couple feet from us! If your idea of a good time is relaxing to the sound of the surf, making your own food, getting regular exercise of hiking, stair climbing, and swimming, stargazing, seeing brilliantly colored butterflies at every turn, birdwatching, and hiking through rugged terrain for a well-deserved fresh seafood meal at the local restaurant, then this is the place for you!

  • We really loved this house, it has a great view over the jungle and ocean and is very well equipped. Susan has been great to communicate with aswell. Los Chonchos is one of our favorite palces in the world and we recommend this house very much to anyone who likes to enjoy nature and privacy. It´s paradise.

    Johanna2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you like to be absorbed by nature & love the ocean this is an awesome experience! The daily up & down the 100 stairs becomes my elliptical a la nature. We love going to long beach most days . The views & privacy of casa roca plus the internet and comfy bed make this a healing & heavenly space. We will return if we are lucky. Mindful of the water taxi deal. Pay close attention. Let the guides take ALL of your luggage and back packs! Too. You may be going for a salt water baptism, unexcepected and unannounced This is a rugged outward bound experience . Not for the timid or vulnerable , but if you can hack it, you have found a slice of heaven on earth.

  • Wonderful experience! Our visit to Susan's palapa was just what we needed. This definitely isnt the ideal vacation for everyone, but if you like camping or "glamping" then this is a great option for you. You do have to bring in all your own food/drinks so shopping and getting our groceries to the boat then to the plapa took some effort and organizing (definitely get boxes or a cooler for your groceries so they dont get crushed on the boat!), but once we settled in our time at Los Chonchos was magical. The plapa is high up at the top of about 100+ switch back steps, but we enjoyed the hike every day up and down the staircase through the jungle. The views are beautiful and the plapa is well equipped with everything we needed. If your not comfortable with the fact that you might encounter a scorpion, mouse, or a spider or two then this also might not be the place for you ;) The beaches are absolutely stunning, but we had some rain & choppy waters the first few days so weren't able to swim, but after the rain cleared away the waters calmed and we had a few great beach days. Loved hiking to and from Chimo and exploring Yelapa for a day. Susan was a wonderful host and answered all our questions quickly, she even helped us get a crib for our 1 year old baby girl. Thank you Susan! We hope to be back again next year!

The Green Room has side and back jungle views and an ocean view from the front and the terrace. (There is a second room on this floor as well). The en suite bathroom is large, tiled and has plenty of hot water. The terrace extends across both bedrooms and features wonderful views of Banderas Bay and the lovely beach below the house. All windows have screens, and the room has a ceiling fan. A shared outdor kitchen is located between the bedrooms. A single bed serves as your sofa as well.
There are three flights of cement and cobblestone stairs to the bedroom(s). Two bedrooms are available, both with electricity, internet, and each has it's own large, tiled private bath with hot water. Bedroom(s) contain some owner's items. Both rooms have comfortable queen beds and quality linens. Towels are provided. Bedroom(s) have glassed windows with screens., a sliding glass door with screen and a ceiling fan. The kitchen is located between the rooms and is outside, shared. There is a stove with oven, refrigerator, slow cooker, microwave, drip coffee maker and china, utensils and cookware. Shared by the bedrooms is an expansive terrace, tiled, with a small table and deck chairs. Wifi is available, however cell phone service is spotty to non-existent.
Pizota is a small fishing village of approximately 25 families. It has 2 tiendas (small stores) where you can buy basic food items including fresh vegetables, fruits, water, beer soda, wine or raicilla (a local tequila-like alcohol made from a variety of agave). There is no restaurant in Pizota. Juanita will serve various sandwiches from her casa and Ophelia at the tienda will cook basic fare and serve near the beach upon request. There is no menu available, nor are prices posted. It is suggested you obtain the cost before committing to a meal. It's recommended that you shop in Puerto Vallarta for meats and anything that you need outside of basic food items
  • I agree with so many of the previous reviews about this being a great place to get away and enjoy the sun and sea. The people are wonderful and Mateo, the onsite host, couldn't have been more efficient and helpful. Being in our seventies, initially I was somewhat hesitant (beach landing, short walk to house on next beach over trail, etc), but Mateo and crew were there to meet water taxi and carried ALL our bags and groceries to the house. Prior to our booking, we had great communication with the host, Dennis. We certainly plan to b e back.

  • You will do yourself a great favor by coming to Yelapa and staying at Garcia Rentals. The apartment was full of brand new appliances, it was extremely spacious and clean, the staff was very helpful and friendly, and the location cannot be beat right where the river flows into the ocean, you are at the nexus between the beautiful Yelapa beach and the wonderful little town on the hill. This place is amazing. We love Yelapa so much and this is perhaps our 5th time staying there. Garcia Rentals was the best place we have been in there. The only problem with the entire stay is that we only booked it for 4 nights!

    Jason & Tammy2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Erik’s place was part of the iconic Garcia Rentals on the south side of the beach in Yelapa. We came in the off season and were some of the only people on the whole complex! The open air quarters had the best view of the river the entire beach and all the birds from the 5th floor. It was exceptional and magnificently relaxing.

Enjoy the enchanting beachfront palapa of Casa de Dos Mulas - soaring thatched roof & open air views of Banderas Bay, SW of Puerto Vallarta, amidst the embrace of jungle flora in the Los Chonchos eco-preserve. Secluded, accessible only by boat, this romantic hide-away offers relaxation, inspiration & adventure. Watch whales, manta rays, dolphins, birds & butterflies from the privacy of your beachside deck. Kayak, fish, snorkel or hike from our 3 beautiful beaches.
Close to Puerto Vallarta and Yelapa, in the municipality of Cabo Corrientes, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, this well equipped, beautifully appointed palapa on Banderas Bay sleeps two to four people comfortably, and a fifth person on the daybed in the living room. Filled with local artisan crafted furnishings, the palapa includes a fully equipped kitchen, great room, dining table, open decks, two separate bedrooms with queen- and full-size beds, and one bathroom. Whether watching the ocean, taking in the amazing thatched roof, or admiring the wildlife, the Dos Mulas palapa in a lovely eco preserve allows you to unplug from your every day stress and relax. Even the water taxi ride is part of the vacation, leaving Boca de Tomatlan to Los Chonchos twice a day: 9am and 3pm; and leaving Chonchos to Boca at 11am and 5pm. Allow 45-90 minutes depending on size of boat and smoothness of the sea. There are no roads to this eco village, so the life here unfolds differently than in a town or city. Ideal for a honeymoon, a family vacation or a get-away with best friends. Most people bring groceries from Puerto Vallarta. Our taxi driver Jesus will pick you up at the airport, take you to your hotel, escort you to the markets, and take you to Boca de Tomatlan to catch the water taxi. We recommend buying fresh corn tortillas in Boca. You can buy additional groceries in nearby Chimo, a fishing village accessible by foot or water taxi. If you would enjoy dining out, you can go to Arturo’s restaurant in Chimo—he is the fisherman and proprietor & the food is delicious! We also recommend taking advantage of the restaurant at Los Chonchos. Meals need to be arranged and paid for prior to arrival so that the chef can plan, purchase and carry ingredients in to Chonchos, where he prepares the meals—it’s like having a private chef! The menu is based on what is in season and is often the fresh catch of the day. Three meals per day cost $110 per couple or it can be priced by meal per person. You can always buy a meal in advance, and then talk to Alfonso at your meal about planning additional meals. More details available upon booking. Commonly heard is: the cuisine, ambience and convenience are worth every penny! Minimum booking is 2 nights. Maximum booking is 30 days. A 15% discount applies when you stay for a week. A 25% discount applies when you stay for a month. $5 per night per person will be added if more than 2 guests book to cover extra cleaning, bottled water, propane & laundry. Check in is at 3pm. If you arrive on the early water taxi, you can hang out on the beach or schedule lunch at the restaurant. If the palapa is ready early, the staff will check you in. Check out time is 10:30am. You can hang out on the beach or restaurant and then take the 11am or 5pm water taxi back to Boca de Tomatlan. It is highly recommended to stay in Puerto Vallarta the night you arrive. Have a nice dinner, shop for groceries and get a good night’s rest. Then, come to Los Chonchos the next day. In the winter, the water may be rough and you need to account for the potential of a half day of travel. The same for leaving Los Chonchos. If the water is too rough for the water taxi to land, they will take you to the next village over, which is Chimo. There, the villagers will help you & carry your luggage on their mules and they will take you to Dos Mulas. In the winter, it is often safer to book a night in Puerto Vallarta on your way home, in case the unexpected occurs due to the weather and ocean conditions in the Bay.
Los Chonchos is an eco-preserve situated south of Puerto Vallerta in a protected 40 acres of jungle. There are only 20 palapas in this beautiful, untouched area of Mexico. There are three amazing beaches, starting with the small cove the water taxi lands on, the pebble beach on which sits Casa de Dos Mulas, and the long beach just 5 minutes walk (as shown in the pictures) from the palapa. You are likely to be the only one on the beach! Keep to yourself, or join the other visitors and inhabitants twice a day as the water taxi visits, help the new visitors off the taxi, and share the news of the day - it is entirely up to you! Walk to Chimo or hop onto the water taxi for a 5-min ride, for seafood, groceries and cookies. You can also take the water taxi to Pizoto for winter surfing, or Yelapa for hiking to waterfalls or eating at restaurants.
  • So relaxing, a beautiful place to be “off the grid”. The locals who work around there are pleasant, friendly & helpful & went above and beyond to accommodate us! Waves...birds...beach...what could be better than that?!

    Sha2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • We have stayed at this house 3 times before and absolutly love it. The location could not be better, and the house is decorated with many details and love. It is well equipped. We recommend it very much.

  • The Palapa was beautiful. So relaxing. Perfect spot on your own beach. The experience was amazing! Cannot wait to go back.

    Jaime2019-12-05T00:00:00Z
  • Heaven on earth....this place is truly magical. If you are looking for an escape away from the hustle & grind of daily life & want to be immersed in nature this is the place!!!! It has access to beautiful beaches, hikes, the jungle, chimo & more...One of my favorite things to do is swing in the hammock watching the waves & butterflies fly past & do nothing for hours (or days ;)

    Caitlin2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a magical little place! If you're looking for a private, off the grid, beach hideaway you should stop looking - because this is it! Most of the time we felt like the only ones there. So quiet and peaceful, only the sounds of the ocean and birds around you. Everyone we met there, staff and locals, were very friendly. We had one meal prepared by Chef Alfonso which was good - but we actually loved cooking in the fully equipped kitchen overlooking the ocean every day better. If you like to cook, and don't mind schlepping your groceries in from PV I would highly recommend it. Please note it is indeed an hour+ long hike to Chimo - especially after recent storms which have washed away part of the trail. That said probably one of the most stunning hikes I have ever been on. Rainforest on one side, vast ocean views on the other, and surrounded by hundreds if not thousands of butterflies. It felt like a dream. Since we were bringing home a huge fish we bought off a local fisherman we opted to take the water taxi back. Unless you really love hiking, I'd recommend timing your hike with the boat taxi so you can do the same. Not to mention it's hard to get your momentum up again after the huge plate of ceviche and beers you'll end up having at Arturo's :) As Pamela will mention it's a good idea to pad your trip with at least one day in PV the day before and after your time in Dos Mulas - the last thing you want is stress going in and out of this incredibly relaxing paradise. During our departure, I chatted with one of the locals and was complimenting her on what a wonderful community Los Choncos was. I said we absolutely loved the place, but understand it isn't the "all-inclusive" resort experience some people want from a Puerto Vallarta vacation. She responded, "Chonchos is all-inclusive, just all inclusive of other things." She is so right. I really hope you pick this place so you can experience it for yourself!

    Maya2019-11-20T00:00:00Z
  • Very pleased with our stay. We were amazed you could find this kind of solitude so close to Puerto Vallarta. The place is exactly as pictured, the amenities are as listed (good snorkeling gear) and the kitchen is better equipped than expected- they win the sharpest kitchen knife in an Airbnb award for sure! Beautiful place for peace and nature. I could watch the pelicans all day. Hope to be back.

    Chris2019-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great adventure!!! Pamela is a great host too!

    Michelle2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Anyone wanting off the grid, glamping in an adventerous, comfortable and stunning location should consider a stay at Pamela's beautiful place at Los Chonchos! The hammocks and (felt like) private beach access was amazing.

A beautiful, contemporary apartment overlooking the water in Yelapa with Air Conditioned. Centrally located close to the pier and the center of the village. The location is closed to the restaurants, grocery stores, 7 min from the waterfall, beach inmediately below.
The main space of the open floor plan over looks the bay of Yelapa, where you can relax in the hammock and enjoy the breeze off the ocean. The kitchen comes with a refrigerator, gas range, microwave, coffee maker, and cookware and dinner wear. The large bedroom has plenty of drawers and closet space.
Yelapa is the perfect place for those who want to forget the city and live a beautiful experience next to nature. It is very famous for its waterfall and the beach. The town is very picturesque with its cobblestone paths, the fauna of the jungle and its restaurants and shops that give a special touch to the charm of Yelapa. From December thru March some restaurants have dinner and dancing nights. The music carries a bit in Yelapa but the bedroom is designed to let you sleep peacefully. we suggest bringing earplugs jut to be on the safe side.

  • Our stay at casa yolanda really was a wonderful experience! The views were so beautiful. It was such a comfortable place to hang out and have a morning coffee while staring at the gorgeous ocean. It was very clean and the bed was so comfortable! We stayed for two nights and wish we were staying for two more. The pace of yelapa is slow (which you learn to love) but Orestes was very quick at responding if we needed anything! Highly suggest walking to the upper waterfall, there is a map on how to get there. And go early to miss the crowds, were we lucky enough to have the waterfall to ourselves. I highly recommend casa Yolanda and wouldn’t hesitate booking again if we ever find ourselves back in Yelapa!

  • Honestly, this Airbnb is outstanding. The view is heavenly, and you can hear the ocean all night. The cold Jacuzzi tub is a godsend. The rooms are huge, huge bed, huge open kitchen, two decks, hammock, lots of chairs and 2 recliners. Do watch leaving bananas out, the jungle is all around and a Kudamundi (beautiful Mexican raccoon like animal) shared my bananas. Lots of hot water. The Wifi was so good, that it kept me sharing my experience too much (ha). Five minutes from the beach, 10 minutes from town. Be aware that the cleaning staff, two super wonderful people show up around 10am, to do some laundry, -just make sure you've got your pants on, etc. My guess is you could negotiate timing, for some extra privacy. Yelapa feels so safe, but there is a safe in the main bedroom and the locals are the truly the best. In town, Tacos Los Abuelos blew my mind, and I ate there 3 times. I had the best Vegan burrito and salads, but they have every food need done to perfection. The close town waterfall is super easy to enjoy, but do take the 1.5 hour hike to the further waterfall, if you can. Such a great experience, jungle, local community, and an opportunity to see so many animals. Horses, lizards and I hung out below a tree filled with wild Military Macaws. Pedro is the perfect host. Don't delay this is where to stay.

  • We thoroughly our stay at Pedro's. Communication was easy. His brother Genero met us at the water taxi and carried my heavier bag up. The location is perfect between town and beach. The casa is very rustic but has very thing you need and the large decks and splunge pool make up for everything. Sueha came everyday to sweep up the decks collect the garbage etc. I had a medical emergency while there and they were fabulous getting a doctor to come to see me. We would definitely recommend this for their hospitality and the view. Muchos Gracious Pedro & Genero

  • Pedro’s place was really great! Communication was excellent and the view was spectacular. Pedro stored our bags for us after we asked for a late checkout. My wife, our dog and I enjoyed our stay. We would stay again!

  • Great place to chill out or Entertain. Great location right between beach and town. Would stay there again.

  • Pedros place was really great! The view from the house was amazing and enjoying an afternoon swim in the pool was just perfect. Would definitely recommend this place and Pedro as a host :)

  • Excellent site, quiet, nice, private.

    Karla2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • The location is perfect. Halfway between the village and the beach. A few steps to climb, but that’s Yelapa. Extremely private with unmatched views. Pedro arrived to escort us to the house within 10 minutes of calling and letting him know we had arrived. Beautiful setting in a jungle paradise. We’ll be back for sure.

  • Absolutely beautiful views from this central location. The outdoor living area and kitchen were joy. Irving was so friendly was quick to bring fresh drinking water , beach towels, etc. I would definitely stay again and recommend this apartment to friends and family. Muchas garcias, Irving!!!

  • This February was our third visit to Yelapa , but the first time we had stayed in town. Irving's place was the perfect pick. Right in the middle of town, but above all the action with great views of the bay. The hustle & bustle of town & the roosters was lively, but never annoying - and the bed was great! We had a challenge getting hot water in the shower on the first day, but Irving was there in a flash to set us on the right track. We really enjoyed ourselves & would definitely recommend it to others.

When I come back there is no better place then this 1 bedroom. I wish I could have stayed more time! Thank you Irving. Go to restaurants: Los Abuelos, unbelievable tacos de pulpo, y el Pollo Bollo.

  • Nice clean place to stay just steps off the Yelapa pier. Host greeted us right after we got off water taxi and walked us to the place and showed us around. Amazing view from the deck. Really cool indoor/outdoor split unit. Easy walk to many restaurants nearby including the Yelapa Yacht Club. Excellent communication with hosts. Great value.

  • Pedro's place is a great option in Yelapa with all the basics and a breathtaking view of this beautiful cove. Would recommend it to anyone EXCEPT those with mobility issues as there are a lot of stairs! It's well worth the climb though.

  • We arrived in yelapa on a day trip & loved it so decided to stay overnight. Found this place on air bnb & could not have been more stoked with it. Awesome view, spotless clean, kitchen for cooking breakfast not much more you can ask for! Definitely Recommend.

  • Clean space with an amazing view! I appreciated the motion lights, too, for the stair climbs after dark.

    Donna2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, very responsive local family runs this gem of a roost. This is the place to stay if you love nature, want a spectacular view, enjoy getting some exercise to work off all that yummy Mexican food and want to be immersed in the jungle. Don't expect decorations or fine touches inside, but the simple space is clean and the host family is very nice and very responsive. This was our second stay and we will return.

    Leah2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay! Excellent place to stay hidden in the mountains, ideal to relax with a unique and spectacular view towards the bay ... sleeping or waking up with the sounds of nature is amazing ... Pedro is an excellent host, friendly and attentive, he was totally pending our comfort and needs.

Nice sunny cottage by the sea surrounded by natural beauty and away from the city noise, 5 minutes walk to the beach and 20 minutes to town's waterfall. Yelapa is a small beach town. Just half and hour from Puerto Vallarta by water taxi
a cozy cottage with one of the greatest views of the bay. big enough to sleep up to four people. 2 comfortable beds and a great open kitchen

  • Maria’s place is even more beautiful that shown in pictures. Location is wonderful, although you must be ok with stairs, but its well worth it. She went above and beyond helping us this trip and I can say she’s the best host I’ve had thus far! Thanks for our stay Maria!

  • Super easy check in and the location is unbeatable. Yelapa is an amazing place to stay and being right on the water and hearing the waves lap on the shore as you're falling asleep is spectacular.

    Nathan2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • The view! Yes, there are many steps down to get here and a steep hill to climb before that, but all of Mexico seems to be steps. :) We stayed here for 4 nights and it was wonderful. We love Yelapa and this location was great with the view of the bay and the beach. Easy access to the store and the trails and restaurants too. We had a resident iguana in the palm and birds always on the rocks out front. Remember to bring lots of cash! Not many credit here. And also bring some warmer clothes. It got chilly here at night with open walls. There were great snuggly blankets to coze up with. A good choice if you are coming to Yelapa!

    Cheryl2019-12-25T00:00:00Z
  • Casa Papaya is just as advertised. Yelapa is a small gem in Mexico! Friendly people, great food and a great beach. We loved our stay and hope to go back. Maria is a responsive and helpful host. At Casa Papaya, Wifi works well, hot water and water pressure were all great! Go for breakfast at Cafe Bahia, coffee at Cafe Pacifica, and get tacos at Los Abuelos. On the beach, settle in for the day at Coco’s for the best margaritas and really friendly service.

Villa Ndan (na-dan), located in Pizota, a small fishing village, perfectly set between mountain jungles and soft sand beaches, just a few steps off the beach on cement stairs. From hiking trails to relaxing by the ocean, Villa Ndan is all you could desire. It's fully equipped, ideal for friends/family, impromptu dinner parties. a romantic, private evening on our terrace, enjoying the sunset. Explore the village, buy a fish or catch your own from land or sea. Villa Ndan: it's waiting for you.
Our kitchen is complete with almost anything you could desire: good knives, lots of china, glassware and utensils. A blender, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and French press, toaster oven, range and refrigerator are all available for culinary experiences. Basic cooking items are usually available: oil, sugar, salt etc. If you'd like us to pre-stock anything, let us know and we can arrange to have grocery items here when you arrive with several days notice. Otherwise, shopping in Puerto Vallarta or Yelapa is recommended---our tiendas have basic fresh foods available but may not have a large selection. Queen beds have quality linens, most bathroom necessities are stocked as well as plenty of towels. We have lounge chairs available for the beach. There are several beach games that can be set up upon request. The family area has games and books available for guests use. Internet is also provided free.
A small Spanish speaking fishing village, Pizota offers you a unique opportunity to experience authentic Mexican life. Interaction with the warm local people can be a highlight of your trip. There are hiking trails, a 3-tier waterfall and of course the beach and ocean for your enjoyment. Featuring mountains, jungle, beach and ocean, visiting Pizota will make a magical experience reality. We can recommend a guide for the waterfall hike and also have a local fisherman available for fishing excursions( (or you may just buy fresh or frozen fish from him). Note that both of these men are Spanish speaking with very limited English. Pizota has 2 tiendas (small stores) for basic supplies and drinks, Note: there is NO restaurant in Pizota. Some sites lead you to believe there is a restaurant. What we have is Ramona, who serves sandwiches and hamburgers at her house. Additionally, Ophelia or Anna from the tienda will cook and serve on the beach. There is no set menu or price so be SURE to check in advance with her for any meals as available food and prices can vary widely. Villa Ndan is happy to recommend Ramona to cook for you in house using your supplies with advance notice.
  • A beautiful Mexican style house, with view over the whole shore, sleeping on the sound of the ocean, huge terrace, full equipped kitchen, big living room. We loved it, we will surely be back.

  • Authentic paradise. Natural gem of Mexico. Outstanding hospitality. Spend time here, respect and appreciate the one of a kind community! Loved the time here. Met some amazing people. We are hopeful our return to Pizota is sooner than later. Thank you, Mateo for a memorable experience! Tip: Bring groceries or plan a stop in Yelapa. Local cooks or fishermen available for hire.

  • We had a great time in Pizota with Dennis and Maeto. The beaches were great, the village people were easy going, but most do not understand English, but that is where Maeto was a lot of help. Our room was really large, great bed, felt like home. We were treated like part of the family, such a great experience during our stay. We are already planning our next stay here in Pizota with Dennis and Maeto

    Jerry2019-04-08T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful gem of a house and idyllic setting on the beach! Mateo, the house manager, was very attentive to our every need and whim-even brought us fresh coconuts to enjoy! We snorkeled, kayaked, did bird watching and relaxing for 4 days. This house has everything needed in the kitchen-microwave, oven, toaster oven, etc. The house has high quality linens and is decorated beautifully. If you love nature and a quiet setting this place is for you. There are no bars or restaurants here, but you can buy food and beer/wine at the very small local store, including milk, yogurt, beans, rice and basic fresh vegetables. We bought a fresh caught fish from a fisherman! Note: you arrive by water taxi (boat) and jump off onto the beach. If it is stormy, they will pick you up from the water taxi by kayak!

Updated High Speed Internet! Welcome to Antonio's Casita! This newly renovated home is tucked away in the Yelapa jungle in a prime location. With a view overlooking the ocean, a 5 minute walk into the town, and a 10 minute hike to the beach, what's not to like? We hope to hear from you and wish you the best on your travels! **Please read notes to help guide you on your journey to this home.**
Antonio's Casita is my fathers home I manage through AirBnb. It is a beautiful home along the hillside with an amazing view of the bay and the town- it’s a short hike up the mountain and once you’re up there you will not be disappointed!
The house is located on a hill side in the Yelapa jungle along with a few of my fathers homes. The neighbors are very nice and quiet. In the mornings you can hear the wild turkeys and parakeets in the trees, the crickets at night, and the ocean waves crashing throughout the day.
  • This was amazing! A cute house a bit higher up on the hill. Every morning having breakfast on the big terrace, enjoying the view, while scanning the ocean for whales was such a relaxing way to to start the day. Hanner is very responsive and her father who lives downstairs gave us a warm welcome. Everything went super smooth!

    Daan2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • You can expect the most lovely people to greet you here. Jessie is always available to answer questions. He will kindly answer questions with a big warm smile. I am greatful for the kindness and hospitality. I will plan to return soon.

    Sarah2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The view from the terrace is simply beautiful! The house is in the jungle and the windows have no glass so there will always be some insects but at this time of the year there are almost no mosquitoes. The kitchen has everything basic to cook and the owner Antonio is very friendly

    Sanni2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • This little house is a cutie collected in the forest of the jungle, so if it is very important to take mosquito repellent! The good thing is that the bed has a mosquito net that protected us perfectly during the night. Antonio's family is very friendly, and always aware of any questions you have during your stay. The climb to get to the place can be heavy if you have a lot to climb, but the view is worth it. It is a little further from the main beach that we would have liked, but only because to get faster you have to cross a small river whose water level rises too much at night to use this shortcut back to the house. However, I highly recommend Antonio's house. It is beautiful and with everything you need for a relaxing and good vibes stay.

    Ellie2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • In the end two friends joined us and Hanner recommended another house that they have in the same property, as they could not send us photos we were a bit worried not knowing how it would be but we were very surprised, a beautiful house with a lot of open space, views beautiful from the bedrooms to enjoy Yelapa. Hanner's dad a very kind and helpful man. 100% recommended and I hope to return and return to stay at Hanner's house.

    Daniela2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • This space is beautiful. The patio has a hammock with an amazing view of Yelapa. The walk up to the apartment is appreciated exercise but not recommended for anyone who isn't able bodied or who has any physical difficulties. The apartment is spacious and comfortable. There is no hot water. Thanks for the stay !

This is one of twenty bungalows in the idyllic private 25 acre jungle eco-preserve of Los Chonchos, and the only one right on the beach. A perfect place to get back to nature and relax! Whale-watch, jungle trek, kayak, swim, snorkel, enjoy..
Los Chonchos eco resort is a fifteen minute boat ride south from Yelapa. Casa de Pirata is the only palapa actually on the beach, and only a short stroll from the beachfront restaurant, with its own footpath winding through coconut palms and banana trees to the sand. There's great trekking up in the jungle all around, a sea kayak at your disposal, and you sleep to the sound of waves breaking on the shore - bliss ! Our casa is simple but comfortable, with rustic furniture all made by local craftspeople. There's a queen bed with open ocean views, an ensuite inside/outside bathroom with hot shower, and a basic but well equipped kitchen with a gas stove, fridge freezer and mobile/laptop recharging station. Outside there are decks to two sides of the casa, with amazing views both across the sandy cove and jungle and also out to the open ocean - fantastic for whale and dolphin watching. There are two deck loungers, a hammock, a bbq area for al fresco dining, and a rinse shower by the private footpath. We provide bedding, towels, light cotton robes and a water fountain should you prefer to drink bottled water. There are also life jackets for canoeing, two sets of snorkelling gear and binoculars for nature watching and stargazing. The night skies here are just breathtaking as there's so little light pollution. Los Chonchos eco resort is only accessible by boat, or on foot, so totally peaceful, and just the best place to unwind! Water is from a spring high up in the hills above, and power simply solar or propane - pollution and noise are kept to a minimum as this is a big turtle nesting site. It's also a fantastic place to see humpback whales, dolphins, mantas (they leap here !) iguanas, frigate birds, macaws, bats and dragonflies. There's great snorkelling just from the beach with an amazing variety of fish in the shallows, and the chance of seeing turtles, dolphins, mantas and eagle rays further out. The sandy beach outside the casa is a good fifty metre swim, or for really serious swimmers, our other palm fringed beach just five minutes walk or kayak round the small headland is way, way longer... and it's often the case that yours are the only footprints in the sand ! The support crew here are just lovely - they'll meet you and off the boat, get you settled in, and be on hand should you need anything during your stay. here's a full information sheet : Monsoon (low) season is July-September and the hottest and most humid time of year, with 30-32 degree highs. During rainy season we get amazing lightning storms which last one to two hours, with good periods of sunshine in between. Temperatures in high season from November to May are daily highs around 28c, and there are always pleasant sea breezes throughout the year. The seawater temperature is great for swimming and snorkelling all year round, at an average of 26 degrees to 28 in rainy season. We have three beaches, the main arrival beach (a good 50 metres for swimming along the shore), a small pebble beach, and our long beach at about 10 minutes walk or kayak just around the rocky headland. As this is an eco preserve, Mexican regulations stipulate that unfortunately we can’t allow domestic pets. Drinking water comes from a mountain stream high above, meets the American standard, and is lovely! We do also provide a bottled drinking water dispenser should you prefer that. This is the jungle, and we share this space with mosquitoes, mice, bats, birds, and the occasional scorpion (though we routinely spray against this) so please consider whether this is for you ! For some, it's way too back-to-nature, yet others just love it and return time and time again. Getting there Puerto Vallarta airport is served by many American and Canadian airlines (Delta, Air Alaska etc). If arriving from outside North America, Los Angeles or Mexico City are normally the best connecting airports. From the UK, the cheapest and only direct flight is with Thomson, who fly weekly or fortnightly returns leaving Manchester on Friday and Gatwick on Saturday mornings. From PV airport, either take a white airport taxi, or a much cheaper yellow taxi from the other side of the highway via the footbridge up the ramp on your left as you exit the airport. Resist the official looking touts who will approach you on your way out of the airport – just say you live there and walk on by... they’re actually all selling timeshare places ! The taxi ride into PV takes about 15 minutes, and will cost around 200 pesos, or 45 minutes straight to Boca de Tomatlan, at around 450 pesos (but allow an hour in case of traffic). The Nayeli water taxi (130 pesos per person each way) leaves Boca de Tomatlan at 9am and 3pm daily from the jetty on the right as you look out at the bay, and is a lovely 1 hour ride to Los Chonchos. Go barefoot and wear shorts not longs as it's a paddle through the shallows on arrival... It’s a really good idea to put any phones/cameras etc into waterproof bags just in case, and not to carry baggage with you as you get off the boat, but rather let the crew hand it to you once you’re on the sand. I’ve fallen over in to the water getting off the boat with a canvas shoulder bag, and my phone and camera only just survived! There’s normally a good welcoming committee to greet you as the boat’s comings and goings are a social highpoint in a place where not a lot happens... Alternatively, boats run throughout the day to Yelapa from Los Muertos pier in PV (check Yelapa water taxi co-op online for up-to-date timetables), and you could then hire a boat privately in Yelapa to take you on to los chonchos beach. Or spend the night at La Lagunita which is good value, but most importantly right next to the beach side jetty so you don’t have to haul baggage very far ! - and then pick up the water taxi to Los Chonchos the following morning. We can also arrange for Arturo to meet you at Boca de Tomatlan (150 usd) or Los Muertos Pier (225 usd), though this is a lot more costly as you're effectively hiring the whole boat for a round trip. Our friendly taxi driver Jesus can meet you from the airport - he speaks great English, charges regular local taxi rates, and can liaise with Arturo to make sure your journey from plane to beach is as smooth as possible. His mobile number is (+52) 322-306-7756. It’s best to arrange this in advance as he likes to exchange photos so he can spot you easily leaving the airport. For your return journey to Boca, the Nayeli water taxi leaves los chonchos at around 11am and 5pm - we'd recommend taking the morning one as the 5pm boat can be disrupted if the sea's become rough during the day, whereas mornings are generally calm. The crew there can advise you if they feel the weather might disrupt the afternoon boat or not. In the very rare event of rough seas making the beach landing tricky, the boat will drop you at Chimo making the rest of the journey on foot, so it’s a good idea to have luggage that is easy to carry rather than roller suitcases ! But again, there will be people to help. Since many flights don't arrive in time to meet the afternoon boat, a lot of guests opt to spend their first night in PV and take the water taxi the following morning. If staying overnight, we’d recommend Posada del Roger in the romantic district - good value, lovely people and the restaurant’s always packed. The Blue Shrimp a short stroll away on the seafront does amazing food, has a gloriously wacky interior and a deck that’s the perfect spot for sundown - our photo of the blue sierras was taken from there. local villages, shopping and eating out Our nearest pueblo is Chimo, which is a charming utterly unspoilt fishing village to the south. To trek there takes about 45 minutes along beach and higher jungle paths with some amazing views on the way (wear good walking shoes for trekking - some of the paths through the jungle can be very rough in places, and take water). Or alternatively, it’s about a twenty minute kayak trip - land and pull kayaks up onto the sand at the far corner of the harbour where the wall meets the beach, and don’t worry about leaving them there, Chimo’s very safe and the people are just lovely ! It’s also the end of the line for the Nayeli water taxi where it stops for twenty minutes before setting off back to Boca, so you can use that for a quick return shopping dash, or stay for the day and get the afternoon boat back to Los Chonchos. There are a couple of stores there that are good for basic provisions, but the choice is fairly limited, particularly for fresh fruit and veg. Guests just rave about the two bar/restaurants on the waterfront - Antonio’s on the left and Arturo’s place is on the right as you look out to sea. Both do fantastic fresh lobster, ceviche and seafood/fish from the day’s catch at incredibly low prices. They’re also delightfully informal - you often wouldn’t guess they are restos at all as they only put out tables as needed... Arturo will also give you a cheap boat ride back to Los Chonchos if you don’t fancy the trek back weighed down with shopping - he’s a great friend to us all and provides most of our private boat hire/whale-watching trips etc. There’s also a lovely walk if you cross over the river and wander along the bank inland or back to the harbour. Yelapa is our nearest ‘developed’ tourist resort - a lot busier but still pleasantly traffic free, and a nice day trip to do using the water taxi. It’s in two parts divided by a shallow sandy river you paddle across, and both have their own jetty. The beach side is more touristy with a great choice of restaurants on the sand. The best two stores we’ve found are on the village side - climb up the main path from jetty till you reach the signpost left to the beach, but instead turn right - both stores are just a little way down on the left. The range is still fairly limited, but a lot better than Chimo with some good fresh fruit and veg. There’s a great walk up to the beautiful waterfall there, a lively yoga scene, and you can do a range of activities like pony trekking and paragliding. There’s also a community of Huichol artists around Yelapa - if you’re interested, Susan (a restaurateur dropped out from New York) who runs Cafe Bahia on the village jetty is a good contact for that, and hers is the best food we’ve found as well as being a great place to sit and wait for the afternoon boat instead of hanging around on the pier. There are a couple of vegetarian places in Yelapa, but the choice for us eating out is pretty limited in general! The morning boat leaves Los Chonchos at around 11 am on its way to Yelapa - you hail it by putting up the white flag on the beach - and returns at around 330 pm. It always stops at both jetties in Yelapa. You can also negociate cheap private boat lifts at the beachfront restaurants if you want to get back any other time. For self-catering we’d recommend stocking up as far as possible while in Puerto Vallarta, particularly for less standard items like soya/nut milks, tofu etc. If pressed for time, arrange for our friendly taxi driver Jesus to pick you up from the airport as he’s fantastic at working out where best to take you and pointing out where the things you need are in each store. PV has a couple of Walmarts, Jesus has a Costco card you can use, and knows where all the health food stores and fresh markets are too, along with where to go for the best currency exchange rates. Remember there’s no need to buy bottled water as that’s already provided for your stay. There is cute, simple restaurant at Los Chonchos in a perfect position overlooking the main beach, with tables on shaded or open verandahs. It’s owned by our friend Robb and run by Alphonso who treks in from Chimo to open up as needed. Prices are quite a lot higher than elsewhere because of this and it’s necessary to book in advance. Alphonso’s lovely and makes delicious food (ask him to make you his tomato soup - amazing!), but as most guests have felt that it represents poor value for money our advice is to book your first day or meal there if you’d like to use it, see what you think, then pay Alphonso in pesos in advance for any further meals you decide you’d like to arrange during your stay. The restaurant can also serve margaritas and beers, though again, these may need to be requested in advance. current prices are breakfast 13$, lunch 18$ and dinner 25$, or all three for 55$ per day. Internet and wifi We don’t have broadband or wifi at Los Chonchos, though mobile signals are good at Pirata depending on your provider. I’m with Vodafone, and my daughter Lara uses O2 - both of which get really good reception. Should you need a fast connection back to the modern world, a lot of the restaurants in Yelapa provide wifi. healthcare There is a clinic in Yelapa at el Jardin, though we haven’t visited it. The nearest hospital is Puerto Vallarta. In case of emergencies Arturo and Jesus can be called to provide fast transport there. There’s also a basic first aid kit in the palapa. cash and currency There are no ATM machines in the area, so it’s best to stock up with pesos for your trip. Exchange rates are better in downtown PV bureaux de change - avoid using the airport as they charge higher commission. There is a money changer in Yelapa on the way down to the beach from the village, and several of the restaurants there will accept card payments. excursions/snorkelling/diving We can arrange boat excursions whale watching/fishing for 65 usd per hour (for the whole boat, 4 hour minimum) - so better value the larger the group of people going. and a 6 hour excursion to the Marietas Islands with food and drinks at 450 usd. These have incredible geological features, a hidden inland beach, and fantastic snorkelling. There are several dive operations in and around Puerto Vallarta, and one of the most popular dive sites is just offshore from Chimo – with cathedral tower rock formations rising from the sea bed, and a great spot to swim with Manta rays. There are several dive operations in and around PV, check current prices and availability on the net. Some offer pick ups, so it may be possible to arrange them to collect you from and drop you back at Los Chonchos. Snorkelling is great straight off the beach - very little in the way of coral, but a rich variety of fish and if you’re lucky, turtles, rays and dolphins to see.... There are wildlife spotting sheets in the palapa for local marine life/butterflies/birds etc. Avoid snorkelling near the rocks if waves are up - it’s very easy to get disorientated in white water foam and the push and drag against the rocks can be dangerously strong. We provide a couple of reasonable silicone masks and purge snorkels, but no fins at present. safety and security Take normal precautions in Puerto Vallarta, Boca de Tomatlan and Yelapa against petty theft. Los Chonchos is super safe, as it's private and very rarely has any visitors other than those working or staying there - hardly any of us ever lock our doors. There is a lock up drawer in the palapa for your valuables though should you wish to use it. Our main caretaker Gabriel is a fantastic guy, and keeps a watchful eye on the place. He’s a total turtle nut and often happy to do guided treks up into the jungle with you. Mosquitos are not a bad problem outside of monsoon season, though you should bring repellent, especially if you plan to do jungle trekking. We all spray our palapas regularly to keep scorpions out, (I’ve never seen one, but would love to - er - outside the palapa ! I find them fascinating..) but take care walking on jungle paths at night and use the flashlight provided. Use the lifejackets provided for kayaking, and always push off from a sandy stretch of beach away from boulders just in case you get washed back! Feel free to smoke outside the palapa, but please not inside, and do take care lighting candles etc, and use only in windproof jars. Fire there would be catastrophic - these are houses of straw !! Also please don't light fires around the palapa but use our fire/bbq pit on the beach at the end of the pathway. There are some small fire extinguishers provided. casa del pirata Our casa is a traditional Mexican palapa with rustic furniture made by local craftspeople. It’s one large open plan space, with wooden floorboards and shutters throughout, and a palm roof. It will be made up to welcome your arrival with fresh white cotton bedding, a choice of soft or firmer pillows (check the wardrobe), bath and hand towels, beach towels and light cotton robes. These are refreshed weekly for longer stays, but let us know if you’d prefer fresh laundry more frequently than that, or might need personal laundry doing. Chileno, who takes care of change-overs, charges 12 dollars per load, and can normally return it next day. The bathroom has a hot shower - ask Gabriel to show you how to operate it on arrival. It’s not a power unit ! - the tank’s pretty small so the best way to get a reasonably long shower is to run the hot water at medium rate (‘c’ faucet/tap) and add cold to taste... Also ask Gabriel for the key if you wish to lock passport and valuables away during your stay. Please bear in mind that the solar panel powered electricity is adequate for fridge, lighting and laptop/phone charger station, but not capable of running power hungry devices like hair dryers, travel kettles etc... The laptop/phone/tablet charging station is under the sink along to the left. Power it up using the switch on the right, then plug in whatever you wish to charge up. please switch off again after use. There’s an adaptor for UK plugs. It’s most efficient to re-charge devices while the sun’s shining too. There’s an ocean kayak and life jackets along with two sets of snorkelling gear for you, though at present please bring your own fishing gear. Our kayak is at the end of the pathway, and life jackets and snorkel gear hang in the bathroom courtyard. Please rinse everything after use and hang up again. There are bags for the snorkel masks if you want to pack them into beach bags. There are amazing views from the outside decks on two sides of the palapa, with a good choice of sun and shade. And the night skies are just breathtaking as there’s so little light pollution. outside there are two sun loungers, two beach chairs, a hammock and a separate patio area for al fresco dining. There’s a second lightweight hammock in a blue bag hanging in the lounge to use on the beaches. The main hammock hangs indoors, and hooks up from the palm tree to the wall outside - please hang it back indoors on leaving or if there’s a chance of rain - it’s not very weatherproof ! also provided - beach umbrella a pair of binoculars for nature watching and stargazing 2 yoga mats bbq set for the fire pit at the beach end of the pathway cool bag with picnic set and ice-pack (in the freezer) waterproof bag for kayaking and day trips beach bag selection of novels - there are also books in the restaurant sketch pad and some pencils etc smoke alarm and fire extinguishers first aid kit chess, cards and connect 4 crib for infants foldable camping bed for children aged up to around 4 kids beach toys laundry bowl, detergent, clothes pegs and washing line flashlight - use this if walking around in the dark - especially on the outside pathways as there are often lots of tiny hermit crabs you might step on. solar light strings and solar lamps for the deck - if using indoors remember to put them out in the sun again in the morning to re-charge.... and do disconnect the fairy lights if you want darkness for stargazing, but plug them back in again next day. spare toilet paper, pegs for the washing line and candles/night lights etc are on the bottom shelf of the cupboard or under the sink. If using night lights, please use the glass containers provided for safety, and to stop them blowing out in the breeze ! mosquito net - needs pegging to ensure good overlaps, but I’ve had so little problem with mosquitoes that I sleep with it open. All garbage is recycled where possible – please sort into the relevant bins for collection - you can find them going left along the main pathway near Lapa Lapa. On leaving, simply leave the fridge running. kitchen The kitchen is basic but well-equipped, with a two burner gas hob and oven, and solar powered fridge freezer with ice trays. Keep fruit and food in the fridge or the sealed container under the sink - in rainy season we get a lot of cute little pink crabs that are harmless but will eat anything !! it comes equipped with - range of glasses, mugs, crockery and cutlery set of chef’s knives and bamboo chopping boards stainless steel pan and frying pan, casserole dishes plastic storage containers colander/strainer and mixing bowl coffee press/cafettiere stove top kettle manual blender (by the time you’ve made a smoothie, you’ve worked up more than the appetite needed to down it in one !) cooking implements, wine key and can opener etc basic staples (rice, pasta, sugar) condiments, herbs and spices olive and other oils dilmah ceylon tea and peppermint tea bags, ground coffee we try to stay well stocked, but would appreciate guests replenishing items that get used up where possible. bathroom The ensuite bathroom is partly outdoors, but its courtyard keeps it totally private. We provide olive soap and l’Occitane lavender liquid soap, along with childrens’ sun cream, but no cosmetics like shampoos etc. There’s also a small bottle of chinese white flower water which is great should you get any mosquito bites. do ask if there’s anything you’d like to know that’s not covered here, and most of all - enjoy !! We love this place and hope you will too.... :) mike and Lara
  • "Los Chonchos" is the perfect place to unwind and escape the fast pace of everyday life. "Casa de Pirata" was unique to the other "palapas" with its beachfront location, beautiful original wooden shutters to cozy up the space in the evenings and the most lovely double-tiered deck. We can't wait to go back... the only problem is that we weren't there long enough!

  • Excellent place!

  • I’m pretty sure my husband and I have never been as relaxed as we were at Mike’s palapa. Pirata is so comfortable, peaceful, and relaxing, and just the perfect place to completely disconnect and unwind. I don’t think I’ve ever slept so much in my life. This place is completely off the grid with no tourists or noise to annoy you. The locals and other palapa owners are all beautiful, kind, and helpful people. We hardly speak any Spanish, but we were able to get by just fine because everyone is so helpful. Also, there are some palapa owners around who speak fluent English, and also some who have cell/WIFI service if you’re really in a bind, but as long as you arrive with enough pesos for the water taxi, Yelapa, and Arturo’s, and you have enough groceries for your stay, you should not have any trouble. The water taxi comes and goes twice a day and this is a big event. The sound of the boat will get your attention...that’s about the only non-nature sound you will hear. I have never seen anything like this. My husband and I will definitely be back.

  • Great place for a relaxing time. Be aware that there may be some critters (crabs, ants, that sort of thing.) Very relaxing.

  • This place is really magic! We spent our weddingdays at this wonderful house and had the best time. The house is very clean and beautiful, right in the middle of nature. The house is equipped with everything you need. Paradise!

  • We loved Los Chonchos and Mike's place "Pirata". It is a great spot to relax with great views on the ocean. On our arrival the boat was not able to stop at Los Chonchos - the ocean was too wild - and we got off at Chimo. Luckily Chileno came to help us carry our bags to our cabana, a 40 minute walk along the coastline.

    Lisa2019-03-30T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic experience we will never forget...I am so so happy that we took the opportunity to come here and hope we can return soon with more friends and family. The palapa was a magical hideaway, so private yet so close to the water. Shaded by palms, just a short little sandy walk from the beach. We fed the iguanas pineapple scraps, watched dolphins go by and fell asleep to what sounded like a full blast ocean sounds CD hahaha. The sea is loud!!! Absolutely loved Chonchos, hiking to Chimo and going to Yelapa. Spent long days on the long beach seeing not a soul. Waking up he Palapa and seeing the ocean was so lovely and the lack of wifi is worth the trip alone. So great to log off! The Palapa had everything we needed and I absolutely recommend this place to anyone... anyone that is who enjoys a beautiful, rustic, peaceful escape... we read books and relaxed and felt totally rejuvenated after a week. Mike was great with communicating and we hope many more people get to enjoy this special place. Thanks to everyone at Chonchos and Chimo (Arturo, Alphonso, Antonio, etc) who made it a great trip. Don't miss Antonio's home made spiked fruit punch or his ceviche in Chimo!!!

  • mike's place is stunning. We booked mikes place for 5 days but our son got sick in Mexico city so we came late and stayed for only 3 days but Mike was really kind enough to offer us to stay 2 more days.. we came in from water taxi and picked up by wonderful crew of los chonchos.most of the time we used to be the only ones on beach..we walked to the another secluded long beach nearby which takes only 5-10 mints.our two year old son had a great time.we even saw whales from house in morning while having breakfast .it was an amazing experience.los chonchos is a secluded place .if you are looking for luxury its not for you.its for the ones who appreciate nature .Mike was in contact all the time with us and was really really helpful about everything. Thanks mike for letting us stay in your place. 😊

  • Fedro and his family were excellent hosts! I may have had two extra people staying the night and fedro was quick to respond and offer to bring up two extra beds and linens. Casa Azul is a very spacious with incredible views of Yelapa. I live in the area and will definitely be staying at Casa Azul on my next trip to Yelapa!

  • Casa Azul is a highly recommended place to stay in Yelapa. The house is beautiful, with very nice details. It has an excellent view of the bay and the terrace is ideal to hang out having a drink or just resting in your hammock. The house has everything you need, even drinking water and basic cooking supplies, such as salt and oil. The grill is phenomenal, all in perfect condition and very clean.

    Abraham2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Spectacular views overlooking the bay. The picture does not do it justice. We ended up doing take ouy and eat on the patio. You can’t beat that view. The place is superclean, on the third floor with stairs only. It is located up hill so if walking up hill is an issue, get on an ATV transport that roam the town. The town is very charming. I would stay here again. Don’t be afraid to ask for restaurant recommendations from the owner.

  • If you want a place to relax and get out of the routine, this is the right place, really beautiful, spectacular views and really friendly people. Definitely recommended. Just don't forget to bring your mosquito repellent.

  • I loved spending time in Yelapa and the best part of the trip, besides all the gorgeous and healing nature, was the locals. The workers there are very kind and thoughtful. The only downside was the mosquitoes because of the time of the year I went is the lower season because of the rains. The storms were incredible tho, and we were safe. I would recommend exploring other small pueblos around it by boat as well. Would love to come back again ❤️

    Jadma2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • It is a beautiful place, very well maintained details, the view is incredible and the pool fills you with peace, we loved it !!! A true paradise!

    Alexa2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • This place is GORGEOUS! You will see lots of wildlife (butterflies, crabs in your bathroom, birds, moths, ants, lizards, snakes, mosquitoes, beetles), and you will basically sleep outside. That being said, there is nothing like waking up on a hillside overlooking an ocean with nothing blocking your view or the fresh sea breeze! You will shower next to birds singing and your butt and legs will get the work out of their lives. It is an AMAZING place to go, unwind, relax, and reset! The staff was kind, responsive, and helpful. Food seemed a little expensive, but it was healthy and my body really needed vegetables after all those delicious al pastor tacos at PV. My Swedish massage with Jessica was amazing. My reiki treatment with Ivana (sp? sorry!) was incredible. It was my first reiki session, and I didn't know what to expect. This retreat was to help my heart heal, and I told Ivana what was ailing me, and her empathy and healing abilities brought the spark back to my eyes and I will be forever grateful. If it weren't for her, the rest of my stay in Mexico would have been sad and heavy.

Small tree house like space with palapa roof, amazing views of the infinity pools and the ocean. It is just above the organic juice bar and the ocean water heated pool. It is great for a single traveler with a sense of adventure.
  • A few excellent days to rest, the place is beautiful. The only awkward thing is that there is not much privacy inside the room if there are many guests. It is important to consider that the pool bath is used.

    Dani2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • I left Yelapa in love !!! It is a magical place and in Pura Vida they manage to connect with that harmony between nature and the spaces that invite you to relaxation, meditation and especially connection with nature because it has its adventure. In other comments they have already given some practical advice to follow as it is a bit far from the town it is better to bring a lamp in case they return in low light, bring a mosquito repellent and other things that the hosts can solve, their attention is what Better, with familiarity. Pura Vida, I will definitely return.

    Gabriel2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • The place is amazing, you have options to eat there, small library, very original spaces, the pool and salt water jacuzzi are the best, I will definitely be back soon!

A beautiful, contemporary apartment overlooking the ocean in Yelapa with Air Conditioned. Centrally located close to the pier and the center of the village. The location is close to the restaurants, grocery stores, 7 min from the waterfall, beach inmediately below.
The main space of the open floor plan over looks the bay of Yelapa, where you can relax in the hammock and enjoy the breeze off the ocean. The kitchen comes with a refrigerator, gas range, microwave, coffee maker and cookware and dinner wear. the large bedrooms has plenty of drawers and closet space.
We are next to the museum and the restaurant cafe eclipse, the house is in the middle of the grocery stores and the best restaurants. This is downtown, so there is people go and back around. There are no banks or ATMS in Yelapa so we recommend you to bring cash. Pesos for groceries, souvenirs, restaurants. Dollars for activities tend to be prefered- We can help you to set up fishing trips, snorkeling, paragliding, horse back riding or other things will need to be paid in cash.
  • Casa Yolanda has one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen. If you're considering staying in Yelapa, I highly recommend this home! • This spot is incredible. The view of the bay is stunning with fresh air and a lovely place to hang out in the indoor hammock. The house is very close to the dock and close to all the amenities of the town of Yelapa, including a little market and folkloric dancing right at the ground level certain days of the weeks. A heads up that the bars and restaurants close by can be pretty noisy in the evenings.

An indigenous community, located in the heart of Cabo Corrientes, Pizota is void of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cafes. It's charm comes from the people: local fishermen, farmers, storytellers. A perfect area to experience the rich culture of Mexico and its people.
  • Marilyn is the ultimate Air BnB host, and this our second visit to Pizota. If you are reading this and would like to experience an authentic Mexican village just go ahead and book your stay. Or keep reading. . . Marilyn cooks amazing plant based foods with fresh from the nets seafood. So fresh because she helps one of the local fisherman everyday and takes home part of the catch! The creativity of her cooking and ability to improvise based on the guest is truly amazing. Our last morning there she walked in with a live lobster which was somehow promptly turned into an amazing lobster shiitake mushroom omelette. Some of the best food we have had has been at Marilyn's! And this doesn't take into her wonderful hosting, tour guiding and sharing insights into life. This is way more than just a place to stay. This is an experience you will be talking about for years and planning when your next trip back will be.

  • Amazing hospitality, I was soooo pampered the whole trip, Marilyn litteraly was reading my mind. We clicked from the first minute , she is an interesting person with a big heart and great soul. Marilyn and her cooking skills exceed the fact that there are no restaurants in the village. Local store is providing some decent wine (selection between white and red) and beer and some snacks. There is practically a private beach, where u can wear as few clothes as wished :) On arrival and departure be ready to get your feet wet as there is no pier, but usually a lot of hands to help out with the luggage. One of the neighbours was greeting me with a loud welcome through the speakers by playing bandamusic, I called it A Mexican Lovecry :D , next evenings we had the opportunity to play our own music so not bad at all. If u are a light sleeper then earplugs are useful due to the roosters and sounds of nature. Staying in Pizota feels like staying in a distant island, a very special feeling and vibe. I hope to be back in not so distant future. Absolutely an amazing experience!

  • Beautiful view of the ocean, with a space built for relaxing! It was easy to get comfy on the spacious balcony and kick back on a day bed or in a hammock. We even saw a few whales from there! Yet, with a location super close to all the beaches it's easy to go for a quick swim a short hike up the hill, or beach walk. And, being in "downtown" Pizota lent itself to getting to know folks in town and gave us quick access to the tiendas, domino games, and the pulse of the community. Also, if you love good food and want to be pampered, this is the spot. Delicious meals with a lot of care and attention to what you like and what's fresh (like fish caught the same day! Yum!!)

  • Pizota is a place for those who want to escape the crowds and connect with nature. From the beginning it can be a bit complicated to arrive and dock but the place and Marilyn makes everything worthwhile. She is amazing, attentive, interesting and delicious cuisine, guides you on the place and what you can find there. He was always very attentive and patient with us. Do not hesitate to book and live this great experience.

  • Pizota is a tiny fishing village just 15min from Yelapa, it’s an indigenous village with a sense of community. Marilyn’s place is right in the center of the village, it has a spacious roof terrace and a comfortable double room. Life is simple in Pizota, we kayaked, read, hiked and saw whales and turtles. Marilyn always found ways to treat us with something special, be it amazing food or her incredible stories. Thank you Marilyn for being such a warm and wonderful host!

  • Wow! Book this place!! Man, where do I begin? From start to finish (and even after finish--Marilyn was so helpful and patient when I had some frustrating issues meeting up with friends after I left her place, when I imagine most hosts wouldn't feel the need to be so responsive and helpful), it was such a pleasant experience that ticked off every box I was looking for on this particular trip. I wanted to get away from any semblance of city living, not think for a few days, and immerse myself in a jungle beach paradise. From the minute I got off the plane, Marylin helped me through the process of getting out of Puerto Vallarta and to magical Pizota, just a short 45-minute boat ride away. You don't have to think about transportation, food, or any other stressors that usually make a trip less than perfect. She generously shares all her goodies/cooking talents, from cookies to cheesecake to delicious exotic meals (she can cook it all!). If you don't want to, you won't have to lift a finger. She'll top off your coffee or iced green tea as you chill on a hammock or before you set off on her awesome kayak to explore the closeby beaches or snorkel around the coral. If anything comes up, you can trust Marylin to take care of it: I overdid it my first day there and started showing signs of sunstroke, to which Marylin immediately knew how to respond. So, trust me--she is the one you want hosting you in a small-town paradise/jungle setting if you are the type to have any safety or health concerns. She is super respectful of your space but like other reviews here, I think the most awesome part is spending time with Marilyn herself--swapping stories or learning a bit more about the area you're visiting, beyond what the guidebooks could ever tell you. It's a trip you'll leave feeling much more enriched and connected to the community than you might if you spent the whole time in a more traditional or hotel-like setting. I would 100% recommend this stay to family, friends, and anyone in between. In fact, I think this just may have to be my new 4th of July tradition! So go book your trip with Marilyn! You won't regret it.

  • Marilyn and Pizota! Hands down! Above and beyond! So much to say! For one, Marilyn met us at the airport twice! Because I missed my flight! Took us shopping to pick up supplies and fed us like kings and queens with flavors that reminded me that I was actually in a remote village being served rich and healthy food. Can’t say enough! She’s a storyteller and a world class chef. Thank you Marilyn for your amazing hospitality. The village beaches are very sweet and the village sound track very authentic while mellow and respectful. The view!!!! We highly recommend staying!

  • We have spent 3 beautifull nights at Pizota Beach. Marilyn is so a perfect host. She is cooking very well and feeling you at home. It was a pleasure to discuss with her about everything. Her place is super authentic and feel you completely disconnected from your world. An adventure to try at least once in his life (even if dogs and cocks are not discreet ;) )

The apartment is located on the third floor of a family home. From the path you pass the family home shared space and will find steps that guide you up to the top floor. You are an easy walk to the Pueblo and village pier.
Casa Kokopelli is a short 5 minute walk to town and about a 15 minute walk to the main beach. You can also enjoy a few small beaches closer to town that are located towards and at the “Point” that are not as crowded. Excellent beaches to snorkel or swim. The main beach has restaurants and offers, paragliding, parasailing, horseback tours to the waterfall, paddle board and kayak rentals.
  • I’ve stayed at a lot of AirBnb’s before, I’ve been an experienced host myself, stayed in many places in Yelapa before and this is hands down the best experience I’ve had as a guest and in Yelapa. Our liason to the host, Rangel, exceeded expectations in every way possible. I can’t say enough positive feedback so I’d encourage you to have your own experience. The place is in town a little ways and there are many steps for those that are less willing to want to exert theirselves. It was nothing too difficult as we were in good shape, just a heads up if you have difficulty getting around as is.

  • Awesome hosts with a passion for the area! The view was incredible! The true Yelapa experience. Would recommend.

  • I loved my week in Yelapa at Michaela's! It was an adventure and respite all at the same time. Yelapa is a wonderful little town and Michaela's place is a great way to experience it. The place would be hard to find on your own but I was graciously met by her partner when I arrived who walked me there to give me the lay of the land. He was very helpful and kind and offered assistance with anything I needed. You actually walk through his family's outdoor kitchen to get to the space. They are kind and welcoming and it was not an issue at all. The apartment is so lovely and sits at the very back of town, nestled up to the jungle so you have a view of everything! There are some narrow, steep stairs to get there but when you do, it is wonderful. It was quiet, clean and had all the necessary amenities. The view is spectacular and coffee in the sun every morning on the open veranda was amazing. While it is relatively quiet, the roosters and other birds are fairly active so turn on the fan or bring some ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise. I found it rather charming and didn't really hear them after a while. Bird watching from the veranda is top notch and green parrots and other birds spend time in the trees just in front of apartment. If you are looking for a lovely space with all the amenities and an authentic experience in Yelapa, then I would highly recommend Casa Kokopelli! I will definitely stay there again on my next visit. Gracias!

  • We love Yelapa and a big part of it is staying in a place like this with its open-air kitchen, dining and living areas (all covered by a roof) overlooking the beautiful bay and beach, very clean and comfortable bedrooms and bathroom, and five-minute walk to the private Garcia Rentals beach. Casa Berita is really only a short walk to everywhere in Yelapa, though still private and quiet. It’s our idea of perfect accommodations, especially if you like to do some of your own cooking. We spend as much time relaxing at Casita Berita as we do on the beach – I highly recommend it!

  • Fantastic views from this well-appointed apartment! The soothing sound of the ocean waves is definitely something I could get used to. Lots of great restaurants, local markets, excellent service, and friendly people. Be sure to bring cash (pesos is best) as most places don't accept credit cards and if they do, there's an additional fee of 5-7%. We'll be back!

  • Yuri and family are amazing people. They were very responsive to our needs and helpful. We as Guest did the ultimate Sin and arrived early. Yuri was very gracious allowed us to come in early. And then we did the ultimate sin again and asked to stay a Little later, again Yuri was gracious and allowed us to stay a little later which helped us a lot. Casa Berita Is a fantastic location with a magnificent view. Swinging in the Hammock During the day Or listening to the waves during the night was mellow and most peaceful. The price was right lovely stay, we would definitely love to come back again.

  • We love staying at Garcia’s and recommend their place to anyone who asks. Great hospitality, lovely beach and the staff is wonderful!

  • We loved our stay at the Garcia Rentals. Yelapa is a magical place and it's so special to have a full view of the main beach and surrounding mountains. You are steps from the beach and a short walk to town- a perfect location. We had our 1 year old daughter and we were provided with a travel crib which is a very nice feature. There was also papaya in the fridge upon arrival which was delicious. The bed was firm and comfortable. If traveling in the winter remember to bring warm clothing for for early mornings and night time. We will be back for sure. Thank you for your hospitality!

  • When we stay in Yelapa, it’s never long enough. Garcia’s is a great place to stay, amazing view, clean rooms, full amenities and great people. The beach out front is a nice place to spend the day. The beds at all of the Garcia unit’s we’ve stayed in are very comfortable. We love staying here and will be back soon!

    Christine2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Erik and García Rentals were the best hosts ever!! The apartment is in the perfect location, had the most amazing views, and the best use of space. The living room is the most epic place to hang out and it was right on the best part of the beach. We all loved it so much. We could live there year round! Thank you so much for hosting us!! (A note* make sure to ask for a mosquito net if you’re sleeping on one of the outdoor beds!)

  • We we loved our stay at Garcia rentals! It was a very magical and amazing place to stay! Location was excellent as it was right on the beach with chairs and umbrellas included and easy walking to the town and restaurants. My 6 year old loved playing in the waves at the beach and exploring the town. The only problem was that we didn't stay long enough!Next time we will stay at least a week!

Relax and unwind in our open palapa home with amazing ocean views just a short hour away from Puerto Vallarta. Watch the dolphins, mantas, whales, birds, butterflies and breathtaking sunsets from the loungers on our deck. Or if you prefer you can head to the beach to swim or snorkel, or for the more adventurous you can go hiking to the nearby village of Chimo.
Casa en las Palmas is a secluded oceanfront piece of paradise near Puerto Vallarta. Although we are secluded at Los Chonchos we have all the comforts of home with a fully equipped kitchen for all your cooking needs as well as open style bedrooms which allow you to enjoy the views and listen to the sound of the ocean while you take in the surrounding beauty and unwind.
Los Chonchos is an eco village where the water comes from the mountains and the electricity is solar. There are three beaches to enjoy in Los Chonchos, the main beach where the water taxi drops you off, the big beach which is a short 10 minute hike or the tiny beach. There are no roads here, only peacefulness and tranquility, its the perfect paradise to recharge from everyday life. There are also no stores at Los Chonchos, we recommend getting your groceries in Puerto Vallarta before you arrive or you can take a short boat ride to Yelapa or Chimo to gather some supplies, but they will be limited. We do have an onsite restaurant however, you will need to book in advance as our chef Alfonso lives in Chimo. You can also hike or go into Chimo via water taxi and enjoy the 2 restaurants that they have there.

  • Pedro’s Cabaña Del Medio is perfectly placed directly on the beach. If you enjoy cooking and bring most all of your supplies to include food, alcohol, headlights, LED candles, etc. - you’re all set! We purchased fresh fish from the local fishermen and visited the two local tiendas for basics - local yard eggs, jalapeños, onions, garlic, etc. We took the panga and visited Yelapa for a day trip. We enjoyed kayaking several days, exploring the surrounding area and visiting with friends and new acquaintances. Simple Pleasures...Placeres Simples You’ll love it here...we always do...❤️ Already planning our return...👏🥂🌞

  • We stayed for three nights before we went to an all-inclusive in PV and didn't want to leave! Our second stay here was better than the frst! Already planning our return! This is not for everyone, but for the adventurous, it's a perfect vacation from the world!

  • My wife and I enjoyed our stay at Pedro's place. The location is incredible and Mateo is a fantastic host that communicates clearly and consistently and is always available. The only downside of our stay was the weather (wind and rain) which limited our ability to enjoy the beach and other natural beauty in Pizota.

    Jordan2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Living so close to nature was an absolute pleasure, hearing the waves crash at night was incredible. The bed in the loft was super comfy, the shower was hot and had great pressure. Mateo, the co-host was amazing, putting the super in super-host. He showed us ‘downtown’ and was always ready to help when needed. Mateo introduced us to a beautiful local woman who cooked marvellous daily lunches for us. We unfortunately didn’t bring as many groceries as we should have but she was able to supplement ingredients we were lacking. On occasion the noise and lights from the rental property just above and behind were noticeable. In addition, tourists come through daily from 12pm to 4pm and set up nearby. Aside from that it was an idyllic vacation. I highly recommend it.

    Lee-Ann2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • It's a lovely spacious, open palapa right on one of the beaches of a quiet small fishing village, it's peaceful, rustic and authentic, Mateo was very friendly and helped us with our luggage, getting us grocery and a bottle of mezcal. We enjoyed looking at the stars, watching the waves, and heading out on the kayak, we saw whales, mobulas and dolphins. The waves can get very big and loud, then it's best to launch the kayak from the main beach of the village, it also gets pretty damp so bring sealable plastic bags for storing the electronics.

    Daishu2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures don’t do this place justice, it is absolute gorgeous!! Make sure you grab some groceries before you come, there’s a little store that had simple things and kind of depended on the day of what they had but we mostly went there to get beer and cookies! Falling asleep to the ocean waves crash down was no problem for us, some nights they were louder than others. Saw two whales right out front and we brought our fishing pole and caught a lot of fish and made tacos... gave the pole to one of the local kids who hung out with us a few days. And if you ask the tours that come during the day for some food they will probably give you some :)

A beautiful oceanfront treehouse backed against the jungle near Puerto Vallarta. Whether you are looking for adventure and exploration or some rest and relaxation you will find it here at Casa Verde. Enjoy your days kayaking, snorkeling, fishing and whale watching on your own private beach steps from the treehouse.
Casa Verde is a palapa style tree house located on the beach of Los Chonchos. Our treehouse is beautifully decorated with fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with shower as well as two queen beds, and a daybed sofa with extra twin sized trundle. This is a great space for a friends trip or a family vacation, with a total of four beds offering enough sleeping space for 6. Casa Verde is located with in an eco-nature reserve called Los Chonchos. Los Chonchos is in a relatively remote area within the Cabo Corrientes region of Jalisco, Mexico. You get to Casa Verde via a short 45 minute water taxi trip from Boca de Tomatlan, a small fishing village just outside of Puerto Vallarta. Los Chonchos is a beautiful secluded paradise with pristine beaches, lush green tropical plants, and lots of wildlife. However, what it does not have is grocery stores, pharmacies, or any other luxuries that we are used having readily available in larger cities or towns. Therefore, you want to be sure that you do all your grocery shopping In Puerto Vallarta before heading to the water taxi. You will also want to be sure to pack any medications that you take regularly or feel that you might need. We do have a first-aid kit at Casa Verde but we might not have everything that you require so plan ahead. The surrounding villages of Yelapa and Chimo do have small grocery stores for essentials should you forget something. If you are looking for a great day trip I would recommend hopping on the morning water taxi to Yelapa and spend the day exploring. There are many things to do in Yelapa from shopping to horseback riding. You can also hike up to find the waterfalls of Yelapa and take a refreshing swim under the falls.
Los Chonchos is an eco-community that is only accessible by boat or foot. All of the bungalows and common facilities are powered by solar energy or propane. There are no cars in Los Chonchos so you can truly relax in peace without hearing the hustle and bustle of a city filled with automobiles. Los Chonchos offers a secluded relaxing experience with the convenience of two daily water taxis directly to Puerto Vallarta for the big city experience.
  • The view of this cabin is spectacular, it has a small terrace that faces the beach and gives you unbeatable views. The details and layout of the house are in very good taste. Chonchos beach and the other beach that is on one side about 10 minutes walk are magical and perfect to relax and get in touch with the sea and nature. Yes. Doubt a place that we will never forget. Likewise, any questions that we asked were answered, very kind and the total willingness of the hosts to assist us. Many thanks!

  • This place is amazing, different than anywhere I’ve ever stayed. If you like nature than it’s the place for you. Just be aware you are literally sleeping in the jungle, lol. The beach, views, sound of the waves can’t be beat. It’s a very remote location so bring anything you might need. We had some minor issues but Sean and the on site staff did there best to sort it all out asap as soon as we let them know.

    Martin2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved this position and the house and the souroundings. It was no joke that it was in the middle of nowhere. But it was amazing.

    Sofie2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a getaway this is the right place to go. Everything was great, since the beginning Sean kept an excellent communication and helped me no matter the time; his house has all that you need to spend a delightful time, the view is amazing, the sunsets to die for, the sounds of the waves crashing at night are so relaxing and the beaches around are incredible. This is a place i will never forget and that I am already looking forward to come back.

    Lorena2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • No words can begin to describe the palapa experience we just had. We were greeted on the beach and helped off the boat with our bags. Chilino let us into the palapa and I was absolutely blown away. You wouldn't imagine something so well decorated out in the middle of nowhere. You can tell they put so much effort into bringing the comforts from home out there. We went during off season and there were very few people around, which is what we were looking for. If you bring food from PV you have a fridge and everything you need to cook with. We also hiked to Chimo for dinner and the food and environment in that small city was amazing, there is also small store there if you forget basic items. This is the jungle though, so everything outside seemed to move, but we made friends with lots of crabs and frogs, haha! There are two beaches we visited, "little beach" and "big beach," and both are absolutely beautiful for snorkeling or kayaking (all the equipment is there for your use.) If you need anything at all, or have any concerns, there is wifi available and Sean will go out of his way to make sure you are taken care of and safe out there. Jesus was also available to help if we needed anything! We will absolutely be back!

    Aly2019-07-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication and everything was better than pictured/described in the listing! I booked this after my last kidney cancer appointments because I wanted to go somewhere as far away as possible from kidney cancer. I zoomed out of Puerto Vallarta on Airbnb and found Casa Verde in Los Chonchos. No A/C, jungle, beach, solar energy, mountain spring water, only accessible by boat, rainy season, and all of the internet telling you to not go in July. I'm leaving this review to encourage you to not be afraid of the heat/rain/bugs if you are thinking of going in July. We were there 12 nights and lived our best lives on a mostly secluded beach - only 4 of the days were there other guests at Los Chonchos. We had amazing (and large portions) breakfasts and dinners prepared for us by Alfonso, watched every sunset, and slept to the sounds that make up my sound machine. It was hot, but we cooled down with cold mountain spring water and the ocean. It rained, but usually in the evening - just adding to the perfect sound machine soundtrack. We would absolutely stay at Casa Verde again.

    Janice2019-07-19T00:00:00Z
  • Rustic and extremely romantic. This place was absolutely amazing and we’ll be returning. All of the previous reviews were accurate. Let Sean handle details. We were picked up at PVR by Jesus and taken to the market (bring in all of your groceries). Then Jesus took us to the boat in Boca. If you get the water taxi it’s much cheaper than a probate boat, but the last water taxi leaves Boca at 3. Once you get to the palapa, there are a few basic spices and all cooking gear. There is a fridge and freezer, ice cube trays, and food bins. Keep things inside the storage bins! One night a critter got the end of our avocado and a jalapeño that we left on the counter. But it was nothing. Cute, even. Be prepared for mosquitos. Nuff said about that. We are fairly healthy and active outdoor-type Oregonians; the hike to Chimo was indeed strenuous in the heat (90 degrees). We kept looking at other reviews saying “how strenuous could it be?” The truth? Strenuous. TAKE WATER. But the trek to Chimo was worth it. We found a ripe mango on the ground and ate it along the way. Dinner at Arturo’s in Chimo was truly fabulous. The restaurant was a super laid back. The whole town is. During the low season, the weather in Los Chonchos is really amazing. The sea kayak was great for getting to the big beach on the other side of the point. The snorkeling was incredible and we so appreciated being able to use all of the equipment. Added plus? A blender. Pick up some Jumex with your liquor of choice at the market in PV in your way to Boca. Voila! Blended drinks. Yes. You will get mildly wet getting in and off the boat (arriving and departing Los Chonchos. Yes. The view is spectacular. Yes. Go. Do it. If you like third tier glamping, you’ll love this place. Put everything you need (which for me means a sundress, a sarong, a long sleeved shirt for kayaking, two swimsuits, Birks, water shoes, bug spray, hair conditioner, sunscreen and tennis shoes for the hike) in a backpack, grab your groceries and go. Don’t forget your guitar. We will be back. Thank you, Sean, Rachel, Chillemo, Rueben, and Jesus.

  • Loved staying at Palapa Verde! Third trip here, but first at Sean’s palapa. The new lounging hut with hammock and two lounges was great, and the space had everything we needed for a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable trip!

  • I was staying at Soccoro's place on the 2nd floor then moved up to the 3rd floor. It's bigger, brighter nicer and fancier. View forever. A great spot!

  • Firstly I have to say that I like the place so much that I added 8 more days. Yelapa is wonderful and Sicorro's place is centrally located 1 minute from stores and restaurants and 1 minute from the beach. I think it's my first Airbnb experience where the place was bigger and nicer than I thought it would be. She responds very quickly and her sister and family are right there.
