Additionally, the area offers the best trails for ATV and snowmobile adventures, along with many golf courses, bars/restaurants, and lots of other activities! At the home, guests have access to a secluded private area with a large yard, seasonal dock and gas grill, fire pit, 2 expansive decks with furniture, parking areas, A/C and more!

The space
Welcome to the Viewtopia! While this is not a brand new home, it has been my family’s personal vacation home since 2007 and has gone through several renovations and enhancements. So many great memories have been made here by my family and everyone who has joined us for all of our up north adventures. Now, I’m ready to share this space and hope that you will love it as much as we do! The Viewtopia: See Why We Love It!

This spacious ranch style home offers 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with 2300 square feet of comfortable living areas. Accommodating up to 8 guests, it is ideally located in Birchwood, WI on Big Lake Chetac with 130 feet of lakeshore frontage. The lake itself offers 2400 acres to explore and has a maximum depth of 26 feet. Waterskiing, tubing, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding - (and in the winter months: ice fishing, snow skiing/cross country skiing, & snowmobiling) - so much fun to be had on the lake! Visitors can launch their personal watercraft onto the lake from nearby public boat landings. Close access to local golf courses, hiking, ATV/UTV, and snowmobile trails, and many hunting or fishing areas while being on the lake means a stay at the Viewtopia is the perfect home away from home for all outdoor enthusiasts! And NEW in 2025, the boat house rooftop deck is now open for our guests enjoyment!

From your first steps into the Viewtopia’s expansive breezeway to entering the main home, you will experience several large rooms and plenty of space to relax and enjoy. Drop your belongings in the spacious laundry room or the oversized mud room which has plenty of hooks and room for all of your outdoor gear. There is a bathroom located just off of the mud room with a large shower, pedestal sink, toilet, and a supply of bath towels.

Off of the mud room, enter the oversized kitchen which is fully stocked with newer appliances including an electric stove/oven, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, and microwave. Plenty of dinnerware (ceramic and melamine), glassware and plastic cups, and flatware is included along with cooking utensils & tools, and more meal prep accessories. There are Keurig and Mr. Coffee brew machines on the counter for most coffee or hot beverage connoisseurs. Since flavor preferences vary, please plan to bring your personal favorites (coffee, tea, or hot chocolate) to brew. A few kitchen extras you will find include a stove top kettle, crock pot, waffle maker, pizza pizazz cooker, 4 slice toaster, blender, and more! The dining area has a table that seats six and additional seating can be found at the kitchen island. Also, if more dining seats are needed, guests can use the card table with four chairs found in the primary bedroom closet. Lots of room to gather and enjoy your meals together!

The main living room has a big picture window and slider door that offer magnificent views of Big Lake Chetac! With a queen sized sleeper sofa, cozy loveseat, and two barrel style chairs, there is plenty of space to unwind and relax. If you need to work remotely, this room offers a dedicated corner workspace to get the job done! Enjoy the gas fireplace at your leisure with just a click of a switch or gather your group on the hearth between the friendly wooden bears for that perfect memory-making group photo!

Just beyond those slider doors in the living room, the Viewtopia exterior has an oversized deck furnished with a dining table and sturdy, polywood Adirondack chairs to relax in so you can catch the spectacular sunrises and sunsets. There is also a seasonal Char-Broil 4 burner gas grill provided for your convenience. Grilling tools can be found in the kitchen. (SPECIAL NOTE: As of Oct 30, 2025 the grill has been stored for the season. Weather permitting, it will become available again in the spring.) Closer to the lake sits a metal fire pit with additional polywood Adirondack chairs to gather your group and relax to the sounds of nature. For additional seating around the fire pit, portable camping chairs can be found hanging in the breezeway. The outdoor fire pit is the perfect spot for making s’mores and priceless memories! Note: my staff does their best to clean off the outdoor furniture and space for your enjoyment. With the unpredictable nature setting, you may need to wipe down a few areas before using. Additionally during the spring through fall months, there are outdoor mosquito repellent applications scheduled. However, please bring your bug sprays and anti-itch creams in case of overly hungry mosquitos or other insects.

Along the shoreline, you will find a 28’ x 4’ seasonal, private dock for your usage. This is available during the spring through fall months as the weather allows. (SPECIAL NOTE: As of Oct 30, 2025 the dock has been pulled until spring.) There are no lifeguards on duty so please enjoy the lake and surrounding areas at your own risk. Seasonal pontoon and fishing boat rental is available nearby, or guests are welcome to bring their own watercraft and park at our private dock when it is available. There is also a boat house on the property near the lake, however guests will not have access to it’s interior at this time. As of the new year (2025), improvements are continuing with the boat house! New rooftop deck is now open to our guests! Additional updates to the boat house structure are coming soon!

Back inside there is an additional living room, often called the game room, which has a long, comfy sofa, plush bear shaped ottoman, cabinetry with a variety of board & card games - even BINGO, and a large connect four game. Once you’ve connected to the home’s free high speed WI-FI, you can use the 55” TV to stream your favorite shows or content. There is also a chalkboard on the wall to keep track of your winning scores and a quaint table with chairs to challenge each other in a game of Up North Tic-Tac-Toe! Also, you will find the Viewtopia Lending Library in this space. The best books are those that are shared! Take a book or leave a book for other guests to enjoy!

Past the kitchen, you will find the three bedrooms and main bathroom at the Viewtopia! The first lakeside bedroom on your right will sleep up to two guests with one QUEEN sized bed. There is no overhead lighting in this room so please use the provided table and floor lamps. Down the hall on your left, you will find the largest bedroom in the home. It has five beds: two twin over full bunk beds and an extra twin sized bed. This bedroom can sleep 5-7 people so you can decide if you want to be cozy by sharing a full sized bed or if all guests in this room get their own bed. This bedroom also has a cushioned rocking chair, plenty of storage space in the closets, and offers two luggage racks. The final bedroom is a lakeside, primary bedroom with a wonderful lake view. It accommodates two guests with a KING sized bed (new in January 2025)! There are two luggage racks for your convenience along with a large closet and a dresser with mirror to organize all of your belongings during your stay. Lots of hooks in each of the bedrooms to hang up your wet towels, clothes, or whatever your needs may be. The main bathroom contains two sinks and a large counter top area. The shower-tub combo gives you the option for a quick shower or a relaxed soaking in the tub. Also great for those families with young children who prefer baths. The linen closet inside of this bathroom houses plenty of bath towels, a bathtub mat, and a basic first-aid kit. There is also a hair dryer hanging in the main bathroom for your use. Back in the main hallway, you will find a linen closet with a few extra blankets and pillows and complete bedding for the living room sleeper sofa. When you snuggle in for the night, open those windows (when the weather permits), listen for the distant sounds of wolves or coyotes, and wake up refreshed to the call of the loons!

Parking at the Viewtopia is available for up to three vehicles along the asphalt area to the right of the home. Trailers can be parked in the triangular, grassy area next to the garage. This trailer parking space measures 28' wide nearest to the garage and is 43' in length. Please see the Viewtopia signs for parking in the designated areas. Guests will not have access to the garage. Please do not block either of the neighbors driveways or the roadway as this is a shared area.

Routine lawn care at the Viewtopia occurs during the growing season. Spring and fall cleanups are scheduled accordingly. Likewise, a pest control service is scheduled to help eliminate insect nuisances. I do my best to not schedule our teams during your stay, but due to the fluctuations in weather patterns I can’t always make that happen. Mowing and pest control treatments usually takes less than 30 minutes. Thanks for your understanding and patience during these outdoor maintenance schedules that are provided for your comfort and overall enjoyment at the Viewtopia!

Note - While this home is a perfect setting for guests of all ages, there are no high chairs, cribs, pack n plays, corner bumpers, child safety cabinet locks, etc provided. Please feel free to bring your own items to help you enjoy your stay. Additionally, the Viewtopia is not ADA compliant. Most doorways are standard widths and there is one step up from the breezeway into the main home. The Viewtopia is located among neighboring homes on either side. It is not to be used as a party home. Low, courteous volumes that are not audible in the distance are acceptable as sounds do travel, especially across the lake. Please respect our home, our neighbors, and the beautiful surroundings of the Viewtopia. It is through your responsible actions that this home can be offered as a rental. Thank you!

Guest access
Guests have access to the entire main floor of the Viewtopia except for a couple of owners closets and the basement! The home is situated in a quiet area and provides the feeling of seclusion and privacy. The garage and boat house (except for the new boat house rooftop deck) are not accessible to guests at this time. Please do not park in front of the garage doors. Additional boat house improvements are currently being made for your enjoyment!

Timber Trails Lane is a dirt/gravel road which winds down to the Viewtopia. Guests are in an up north nature setting in Birchwood. You may experience wildlife, insects (including mosquitoes, spiders, bees, beetles, etc), and other outdoor nuisances. Please be aware of your surroundings and bring sunscreen, bug repellent, and other items to help with your overall comfort during your stay.

Other things to note
Early Spring/Late Fall/Winter stays:
*The dock will be pulled from the lake as the weather dictates.
*The BBQ grill may be stored and not available.
*In case of snow, the outdoor deck is not shoveled. A shovel will be provided for your use. The front path to the home will be shoveled prior to your arrival.
*When a significant snow occurs, the driveway will be plowed. You may need to move your vehicle so the plow can clear the whole area.
