Peace and quiet

Guests say this home is in a quiet area.
Juniper Grove is a thoughtful little log cabin, nestled in the Adelaide Hills.

Originally built by hand in the 1970s and lovingly restored over the past year, this place is a rich, thoughtful one that you won't want to leave. Think floor to ceiling wood, board games aplenty, cozy flax-linen sheets, birdsong and the call of native birds as you rest and recharge.

The space
The kitchen - stocked with freshly baked bread, eggs from our neighbour's chooks, and locally sourced honey and jam - was crafted with your experience in mind, and features a small (but surprisingly spacious) fridge, a dishwasher, and all necessary appliances including an induction cooktop, oven, coffee plunger, pod machine & microwave.

The bathroom is new, and features heated floor tiles to take the edge off of those chilly hills mornings, as well as a rain-style shower and a freestanding bath.

There are two fireplaces, one in the entry which also houses games, puzzles, picnic goods, and one in the bedroom, placed to crackle away next to you as you snuggle into the king-sized bed.

Downstairs you'll find the den (aka the rainbow library), where the walls are lined with books and the record player fills the room with music. There's a clever workspace / office / studio above the kitchen in the loft, which can be accessed via a vertical ladder.

Don't stay cooped up, though: there are two acres of forest, creekland, and natural beauty to explore during your stay. Follow the stairs down towards the sound of running water, cross the bridge and you'll find yourself in a clearing full of dappled light and places to picnic.

Guest access
You'll have the whole cabin to yourself for the duration of your stay, as well as the two acres that it exists on with the exception of the laundry (which we use for storage) and the shed to the left of the driveway.

Other things to note
Juniper Grove sleeps two adults: it is set up to be a wholesome and intimate space, and extra guests are not permitted: nor are parties and events.

It is not suitable for children older than the newborn stage, due to the unenclosed staircases and ladders through the cabin: feedback from parents around us is that it is hard to relax when you’ve got a tiny explorer teetering in the edge of things constantly. Young babies are welcome, though you will need to bring any necessary accomodations for them including a portacot, highchair and whatever else will make their stay a lovely one for you both.

Wildlife is abundant through the property and surrounding area, and as such we have a strict 'no pets' policy. Keep an eye out for the dozens of bird species, plus friendly kangaroos, koalas and the occasional echidna!

Please note that we generate as much of our own energy as is possible - all water is supplied by the rain, much of our electricity comes from solar, and all provisions from toilet paper to body-wash are chosen with sustainability in mind. We would love for you to really enjoy and indulge in your stay, while also consuming mindfully.

Mobile Reception

You will have complete coverage with Telstra and most other carriers, and we are connected to NBN wifi. Sometimes the internet is lightning fast and others it is a bit slow, please feel free to bring your phone and / or laptop but we highly recommend downloading movies before you come to avoid potential lagging!

Parking

There is ample parking for 1-2 cars in the driveway close to the cabin, or you can pull to the end of the driveway and park in the shed if you’d like your car to be undercover. Please leave forward out through the shed either way - reversing up the slope is quite tricky! We recommend turning left when you head off and looping around at the bottom of the cul-de-sac.

Things to Do

Juniper Grove feels a world away from the hustle and bustle and your time here can be as slow as you'd like it to be. There are birds to watch, games to play, puzzles to assemble - picnics to be had, books to read and records to listen to.

We are very close to a number of beautiful national parks: Black Hill Conservation Park and Morialta National Park are just a stones throw away - and there are plenty of gorgeous wineries, restaurants and other places to visit close by. When you arrive, please flick through our welcome book for a list of all of our very favourite ways to spend our time here.

Neighborhood highlights

Juniper Grove is located in the quiet and incredibly picturesque town of Norton Summit, in the Adelaide Hills. Norton Summit brims with countryside charm, and feels as though it's much further from the city than it actually is. There's a well-loved pub and cafe ten minutes from the cabin that is exceptional and that sits across the road from a general store: between the two, you can gather almost anything you might like to add to your stay from gourmet cheeses or a newspaper to a great coffee, fresh sourdough or hearty meal.

We recommend taking the opportunity to disconnect while you're here (which means bringing everything you'd like to delve into along with you) but you can actually order from local supermarkets and restaurants via Uber Eats if that's more your thing.

If you love hiking, birdwatching, or sitting in the sunshine, you'll be pleased to know that there are a number of National and Conservation Parks to explore all around us.

Hello! I'm a happy little human living on Kaurna Land. Everything I do is full-to-the-brim with heart, and Juniper Grove is no exception: in fact, it's probably the most true here. I hope that you can feel it in every corner of your stay. When I'm not at the cabin, I'm in our cottage by the sea with my husband, two friends, our dogs and fluffy highland cows Jake and Elwood - like the Blues Brothers, but the Moos Brothers.
