Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Enjoy a peaceful stay in our early 1800’s log cabin. The Cabin sits at the heart of Morris Orchard, a Virginia Century Farm. From the cabin porch, you will look across the pond and enjoy a view of High Peak Mountain, apple orchards, hayfields, and cattle grazing in the pastures. The cabin has been beautifully renovated, preserving the charm and history of the cabin, while adding all the modern amenities you would expect.

The space
The Basics:
The cabin is a one bedroom one bath, it has a fully equipped kitchen, Living room with gas logs and a TV, and spacious porch, firepit, charcoal grill, and wifi. It overlooks a pond and sits on Morris Orchard, a small diversified family farm. The cabin is surrounded by cow pasture.

If you need more space see our Orchard Farmhouse listing.

The Story:
This cabin is the oldest surviving structure on the farm. It originally sat closer to the mountain, next to our farm sales building. After 200+ years the rock foundation and north wall of the cabin were beginning to show its age. To save the cabin we decided to take it apart and rebuild it next to the pond. The process was slow and steady as we wanted to honor the hard work that went into the original construction of the cabin 200+ years earlier. Just as they had used wood available on the farm to build the cabin, we chose to use as much wood as possible from the farm as well. From the Ash stairs, American Chestnut doors, Walnut shelves to the Spalted Sycamore and Pine flooring nearly all the wood you see is either original to the cabin or cut from a tree standing on the farm using a small portable sawmill. Even the Soapstone countertops were sourced directly from a local quarry a few miles north of here. All the work that we put into the cabin was done with great care and respect for the history held in the ax marks on the logs.

Neighborhood highlights

Located in central Virginia, there are many places to explore nearby (more than I will be able to write about here, but here are some highlights). A short drive will take you into downtown Lynchburg or the small town of Amherst for an assortment of dining options, or into the mountains for a drive on the blue ridge trail or hiking on the mountain trails. Just to the North, the 151 trail in Nelson County is home to a plethora of Craft Breweries, Distilleries, Cideries, and Wineries. The region is scattered with historic sites, such as the D-Day memorial, The Natural Bridge, Tomas Jefferson's Monticello, and many Civil war points of interest.

Hi, I'm Wil. I work along with my parents on our family farm raising apples, peaches, berries and cattle. In 2006 we decided to share a little bit of our farm by renting out The Orchard Farmhouse. We quickly realized that our guests truly enjoyed getting away on the farm, and we enjoy the opportunity to meet new people. We hope that everyone who visits takes home lasting memories.
