Great check-in experience

Recent guests loved the smooth start to this stay.
This charming farmhouse is the perfect retreat from which to stage your New River Gorge adventure. Built in 1860, this newly renovated farmhouse sits on a 171 acre working farm with stunning views. This is the only farm stay on a working farm in the Fayetteville area, is 10 minutes to town, and very close to all the area's amenities. It offers a quiet peaceful retreat to unwind and relax at the end of your busy day!

The space
This historic house built in 1860, has been recently renovated with a fully furnished kitchen, bathroom, sitting room, two bedrooms and back porch under roof. Many old materials were preserved to maintain the integrity of the historic character of this structure. It is simply decorated to ensure comfort, lend charm and celebrate the house's age. All linens and bathroom towels are furnished for your stay. This house is open from May through October and because it is seasonal it does not have a central heating system; it has space heaters for use during cooler weather. You will be surrounded by beautiful mountain views, animals grazing in the pastures, wildlife and plant diversity that abounds in the Appalachian forests .

Guest access
Guest parking is available in the gravel lot by the equipment shed near the house. Guests can enjoy hillside views from the covered porch and private garden area beside the house. Guests can access the commercial high tunnel and gardens located in front the house. A dozen fresh eggs are provided in the refrigerator, complimentary for your stay, and seasonal produce, herbs, flowers and beef raised on the farm are available for sale during your stay. A free farm tour to see the animals can be provided upon request.

Other things to note
This is a working farm, therefore guest pets are not allowed for the safety of the farm livestock, guardian dogs, and farm dogs. All animals are on a specific diet and should not be fed. My guardian dogs have innate genetics to hunt other predators, such as coyotes, bears and stay dogs; therefore they may see another dog as a threat to the sheep on their property. That being said, my guardian dogs are human friendly.
We have beautiful mountains, however, the mountainous terrain and weather can affect the internet service which is provided through a cellular phone company.

Neighborhood highlights

This house is on a working farm with commercial high tunnel, gardens and livestock. Farm animals include beef cattle, sheep, horses, laying hens, working guardian dogs, and other farm dogs. It is very quiet and pastoral. Since this is a farm, there are a mix of habitats rich in plant life and wildlife, particularly birds abound. It is a great place to observe birds flying through during the Spring and Fall migration and the New River area hosts a birding festival in May.
The farm is very close all area amenities and the rafting companies. Just down the road is the Fayette County Park which has many nice amenities including an Olympic size swimming pool, picnic shelters, a Frisbee golf course, playgrounds and trails. It is also within walking distance to Laurel Creek which runs along the road and is stocked with trout. Many excellent rock climbing and bouldering areas are close by. Neighbors include other farms, the Fayette County Park, the Fayette County Animal Shelter, and a privately owned enclosed shooting range, used only occasionally. The farm buildings sit within its own hollow of 30 acres of fields and pastures, and 140 acres of forested hills. It is a beautiful and private place to relax.

Lives in Fayetteville, West Virginia
I am a farmer and have a very nice farm in Fayette County, West Virginia which I have owned since 1992. I am retired as a research botanist, and have spent most of my adult life learning about the plant world. Now I spend my days tending to gardens and animals. I won the Southern Conservation District Farm of the year in 2023. I do love my coffee breaks, watching the light shift and the mist rise to birdsong. I’d like you to come see it too.
