Beautiful area

Guests love this home’s scenic location.
Cosy renovated stone barn, only 100 metres from the secluded and virtually private Aberfforest Beach and woodland, with direct access to the coast path.

Barnacle Cottage is a perfect, peaceful and quiet retreat from where you can enjoy the spectacular Pembrokeshire Coast.

It's surrounded by nature and wildlife - dolphins and seals are often seen in the bay. Aberfforest is the perfect base for walking, swimming, fishing, birdwatching and watersports - or relaxing by the log fire!

The space
Hi The cottage has a light, bright, open plan layout, and is decorated with neutral colours that reflect its natural surroundings. It is warm and cosy with a wood-burner, and underfloor electric heating in the sitting room and bathroom.

There is one downstairs double bedroom. The two other galleried bedrooms are each in "crog lofts" in the eaves and are accessed via steep wooden staircases. Care will be needed when using these staircases.
The king-sized bedroom has a view of the sea and also looks down over the living area. There are curtains to provide privacy.
The other upstairs bedroom has extra long twin beds (6’6”) so that two adults can sleep in comfort. Both upstairs bedrooms have limited headroom.
The bathroom is downstairs. There is a WC, hand basin and bath with electric shower over.

The sitting room has an armchair and two comfortable sofas, that are grouped around the log-burning stove.
The kitchen has a central table, ideal for family meals, and is very well equipped.

There is free parking immediately outside for two cars and a large sunny enclosed patio - perfect for dogs and for outdoor meals.

Your pet is welcome with prior approval. Please restrict your pet to the tiled kitchen area and outdoors. Please do NOT allow your pet into the carpeted areas or onto the furniture, and do not leave him/her in the cottage when you are not at home.

A travel cot and high chair are available on request.

The bathroom and sitting room have underfloor heating. There are electric fan plinth heaters in the kitchen which can be used to give the room temperature a quick boost if you are feeling chilly.

Barnacle Cottage has WiFi and a landline, although - please note - there is limited mobile phone signal in Aberfforest.
Although there is no mobile phone signal in the cottage, most guests are able to use the WiFi to enable WiFi calling and whats app.

If you require mobile signal to use your phone or to access SMS texts, there is usually 3G signal if you walk or drive back up the drive way, to the region of the farm buildings. Unfortunately limited mobile phone and internet signal can be a common problem in remote and / or coastal areas. There is a landline phone in Barnacle Cottage, which you are welcome to use in an emergency.

Guest access
The whole cottage and terrace is accessible to guests. There is parking for two cars just outside the pedestrian gate to the patio.

(There is small separate stone building / store adjacent to the cottage which is private and retained for the owners’ use).

Guests also have access to the boat park where they can store kayaks, boats, paddle boards, next to the beach, by prior arrangement. It is also possible to launch from the beach, again by prior arrangement. There is a small fee payable for this.

Aberfforest is located 4.5 miles from Fishguard, and 2.5 miles from Newport, where there are excellent local shops, cafes, and a farmers market.

The closest train station is Fishguard & Goodwick.

Other things to note
The property is accessed via a long and bumpy farm track. It is accessible in any ordinary car, but there are numerous potholes and rough areas, and care will be needed when driving.

The cottage has wi-fi and a landline, although - please note - there is limited mobile phone signal in Aberfforest.

Neighborhood highlights

Aberfforest Bay is a small secluded beach in the Pembrokeshire National Park. It is accessible only on foot from the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, and so is naturally a quiet and tranquil spot.

There are numerous places to explore directly from the front door of Barnacle Cottage - Aberfforest Beach is a three minute walk away and Aberfforest waterfall even closer. The beach is mainly pebbles at high tide but, as the tide ebbs there are usually large patches of sand, and some rock pools. The stream flows down from the waterfall, through the forest, to the beach, where it is crossed by a small wooden bridge. There are numerous beautiful footpaths through the local woods beside the stream, and along the coast path in both directions towards Cwm Yr Eglwys and Dinas Head to the west, and to Aberhigian beach and Newport Parrog to the east.

The area is paradise for dogs and dog walkers - dogs are welcome almost everywhere - on the beaches, as well as in pubs and cafes - although we strongly recommend using a lead at all times when walking the coast path, which can be very exposed in places.

In Aberfforest you are surrounded by nature, and it is a frequent occurrence to see seals and dolphins, and a variety of seabirds, in the bay. In the spring, the forest is alive with birdsong and wild flowers. At night the clear, dark skies allow for beautiful star gazing.

In addition to the beautiful North Pembrokeshire coastline there are lovely places to explore inland. Carningli mountain rises for 337 metres up from Newport, offering spectacular views over the coast and surrounding countryside. The ancient woods at Ty Canol and the megalithic monument at Pentre Ifan are also fascinating places to explore. Further south, the Preseli Mountains provide a wonderful setting for hiking and mountain biking.

As well as Aberfforest Bay, there are numerous beaches within easy reach, including Newport Sands, Cwm Yr Eglwys, Pwllgwaelod, Aberbach, Abercastle, Porthgain, Abereiddy & the Blue Lagoon, and Whitesands Bay.

Local shopping can be done at Dinas Cross (1.6 miles) where there is a well stocked local store, post office and fuel station, with parking directly outside.

Further afield there is an excellent range of shops in Newport (2.5 miles), which has a large pay and display car park (free between November and March).
Shops include a local butcher and grocer, a wholefood store, post office, hardware shop, chemist, clothing store, several good quality gift shops, two local art and craft galleries and several excellent cafes, pubs and restaurants. There is a very popular local produce market in Newport on Monday mornings between March and December. Fishguard (4.5 miles), similarly has a couple of nice cafes, clothing store, a delicatessen, a bakery and lovely bookshop. Larger towns with a wider range of facilities can be found at Cardigan to the north (14 miles), and Haverfordwest to the south (21 miles).

St Davids, Britain's smallest city is about 40 minutes (22miles) away to the south west and is well worth a visit.
