Changes, cancellations, and refunds for Hosts

Sometimes things come up and either you or your guest has a change of plans. To keep things running smoothly, here’s helpful info on how to cancel, what happens if you do, and how to use the Resolution Center.

If your guest makes changes or cancels their reservation

Your guest can send you a trip change request to change the length of their reservation, their reservation dates, or number of guests. You can accept or decline their request, or even send your own trip change request with proposed edits.

If your guest cancels, we’ll notify you and automatically unblock the dates on your calendar so you can host other guests. But what about your payout? If you’ve hosted before, it’ll be released to you 24 hours after your guest’s scheduled check-in time. If this is your first time hosting, we may hold it until 30 days after the reservation was confirmed.

If you make changes to your guest’s reservation

You can edit a reservation before or during your guest’s stay. Send your guest a trip change request proposing your new dates, price, or number of guests. You can even suggest they stay in a different place, if you have more than one listing. Just know that your guest will have to accept the change before it's confirmed.

If you cancel your guest's reservation

Because cancellations disrupt guests' plans and impact confidence in the Airbnb community, try to host all reservations. If you can’t, go to the Today tab and select the reservation you want to cancel or change, but know that if you do cancel, penalties are involved—things like a cancellation fee or a blocked calendar.

Sometimes, unexpected events and emergencies pop up at the last minute. If you need to change a guest’s reservation within 24 hours of check-in or during their stay, just send your guest a trip change request. If you need to cancel your guest’s reservation within 24 hours of check-in or during their stay, you’ll need to contact us for help with that.
