Halnaker tree tunnel and windmill walk
Join me on a leisurely 4-mile walk (lasting 2 to 2.5 hours) through the beautiful Sussex countryside, into the South Downs National Park via an ancient hollow way following in the footsteps of Romans, commoners and a king fleeing for his life!
We'll start our walk in a village just a ten-minute drive (20-minute by bus) north of Chichester, passing through vineyards, farmland and a beautiful tunnel of trees.
After a short walk uphill, we'll see the restored windmill and have time to admire the 360° views of the Sussex countryside. The Isle of Wight can be seen from here on a clear day.
Learn about Boxgrove Man, the oldest human remains ever found in England, a Neolithic settlement and see WWII radio direction-finding structures. Hear local folktales and learn a little Sussex dialect.
Depending on the time of year, we may see a range of butterflies and birds, including buzzards and skylarks and, if we are very lucky, we may see some deer.
Chichester is the nearest railway station. There is a regular bus service from there to the meeting point.
Other things to note:
This is an easy walk but it is not suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties due to several stiles on the route.
The route can be very muddy after rain.
Alternative times/and dates are possible on request.
There are no public toilets in the village.
Parking is available at the meeting point.
Beekeeping in the South Downs
We'll meet at our farm for an initial introduction. Next we'll walk the grounds and explain the relationship between nature and bees, underlining their importance to the eco system. Then, we'll take you through the equipment needed to practise bee keeping, the main events in the beekeeping year, how we manage the swarming season and extract the golden honey. We'll visit one or two of our apiary sites in the locality, and if weather permits we may open a hive to let you see what the inside of a bee colony looks like. Afterwards, we'll return to the farm and try some honey tasting to help you understand the different types of honey available. A relaxing experience enjoying nature and gaining an appreciation of these beautiful, selfless animals.
Other things to note
Decent footwear is key if we are walking - but it should not be too demanding.

Groom and walk miniature ponies near London
Star the pony and I will meet you at our meeting point where we will carry out introductions and cover safety tips, before we head off for the walk.
We will walk up the lane and through the fields, going at the ponies pace and allowing them to browse on the plants in the hedgerows. We’ll also collect cuttings and weeds to take back with us for their pony friends (in season only).
You will learn about wild plants and trees and how they benefit the ponies diet, plus more about pony care and behaviour.
We will finish the walk back at the pony field where you will brush their coats and manes and tails, while the ponies tuck into their lunch.
You will be able to really get to know the ponies as individuals and see their different characters and personalities. With a calm and gentle approach, it won’t take long before they are queuing up for a scratch from you.

Forest Bathing / Shinrin-Yoku
Forest Bathing (Shinrin-Yoku) is a traditional Japanese awareness meditation, proven to be a profound antidote to anxiety, depression, fear and tension.
You will be taken upon a simple forest walk, whereupon your guide, Helena, will facilitate and enable a sensual immersive experience, whereby the forest languages of renewal, growth, change and impermanence will become your experiential second nature.
You will develop a sense of inner peace and stillness that will be supported and encouraged by nature's living, ever-changing process.
Absolutely no experience necessary. The requirements are a willingness to let go of your troubles, fears, worries and anxieties.
Other things to note
Wear warmer clothes than usual as we will spend time being still in the woods and in the shade of the forest canopy. You may also wish to bring something to sit on during sit spot practice.
Great for groups and team building too.
I also work with Forest Garden, Shovelstrode that is located 4 miles from the location of this Forest Bathing experience.

Chichester to West Wittering beach by Electric Bike & Boat
Join me on a magical 4 to 5 hour round trip from Chichester to West Wittering Beach.
After an Ebike introduction & instruction on how to use them, when everyone is comfortable & happy we'll set off on our adventure.
This unforgettable leisurely trip first takes us through the scenic country lanes to Chichester Harbour (AONB), an internationally important pit stop for wading birds & an area of outstanding natural beauty.
At Bosham Hoe we'll catch the licensed ferry boat to Itchenor just a short ride across the water & a great way to see the harbour aboard a boat captained by an experienced ferryman.
Next, from Itchenor we join part of the Saltern's Way cycle path, a beautiful section through scenic farmland which is car free.
We then reach West Wittering village & then onto the beach.
At the beach we can lock the bikes & there's time to explore, sit back on the sand or take a dip! The beach has lifeguards (mid-May to Mid-September) & designated swiming zones.
The unspoilt, rural bliss of the surrounding area easily earns its reputation as one of the best beaches in the UK. This blue flag beach has toilets, showers & a cafe.
From the beach we then return back to Chichester via the Marina, scenic country lanes and back roads.
Total trip approx 4 to 5 hours, 18 miles. Ideal for beginner cyclists & all flat terrain.
Sussex villages & hedgerows walk
Join me on an easy-going walk in the beautiful Sussex countryside at the foot of the South Downs.
We'll explore two ancient Sussex villages dating back over a thousand years, passing cornfields and a vineyard along the way.
We'll see traditional thatched and flint cottages and a beautiful Norman church, arguably the finest in Sussex, and the ruins of a priory built over 900 years ago. Please note that weddings, funerals and other events can stop us from entering the church so seeing inside cannot be guaranteed.
At different times of the year, camomile, sloes, blackberries and elderflowers can all be seen along the route. In autumn the hedgerows burst into colour, dripping with edible berries. While we won't be picking or eating any, I'll introduce you to hedgerow foraging and folklore.
The walk starts and ends at a traditional country pub that's over 200 years old. Refreshments not included.
This walk can be combined with my longer walk to a 300-year-old windmill with stunning views of the South Downs and a magical tunnel of trees.
Other things to note
This is an easy walk with no stiles, however, the terrain is rough in places.
Alternative times/dates may be possible. Please contact me for more information.
