Good: the apartment is good and Chung is a nice guy. He lives at the same building so he was always able to help. Linens, towels, plates and kitchen acessories are cleaned. Some steps from the subway station we could be in NYC Downtown in 3 stations (about 20-25min). The neigborhood is nice also and we could find supermarket, laundry and some blocks away. Private parking is available at the same block.
Bad: the apartment was not so cleaned mainly the bathroom. The sofa bad is not confortable for slepping (too soft).
I believe it is a good valued deal for being in NYC considering the high prices of hotels in NYC. I recommend Chung's apartment,
The apartment is easy to find (50m from the metro station) and just as listed. The neighborhood is surprinsingly quiet and provides different convenient stuff right on the corner like coffee/bakery, groceries, asian food, barber, etc. It is located quite far from downtown Manhattan, but the A line express takes you quickly in the city, the local lines go through different interesting areas, along Central Park.
The only real issue with the apartment is that the sheets and the place in general didn't feel or look really clean. Also, the bigger bed (a foldable couch, what a couple would select as their first choice) is very uncomfortable as one can feel every spring in the matress. In the end we ended up squeezing ourselves in the lower bunk bed, the third guest sleeping above us.
My last point will be that the heating was generally insufficient, if one stays during fall or winter. What looked like the main radiator didn't work, and the additional electric heater wasn't much of a help, and noisy.
All in all, it was a decent place to stay, shower, for an unbeatable price in Manhattan. Chung is friendly, and though he mistakenly thought we would check out one day later, he paid back our key deposit via PayPal.
We loved this apartment, the pictures were spot on no surprises.
Many may look at the distance from Manhattan and shy away, but the subway is less than 100 feet away so it involves barely any walking. You walk for 30 seconds, and you are on the subway, jump on the A to get to Times Square. It takes 2 stops to get here, 125th, and 59th, and you are off at 42nd. You know you will be walking everywhere in New York, so by starting off your day with 30 seconds of walking, and being able to rest for 16 minutes is amazing.
In addition, the great thing about the location of the apartment is the ease to get from JFK, same thing, take the air train to Howard Beach and jump on the A Train, no transferring whatsoever.
Chung was great he met us that morning when we flew in gave us the keys, made sure we had fresh blankets and towels. He lives on the 4 or 5th floor so if you ever need anything he isn't to far away. We spent most of the days going all over New York so having a refreshing place to sleep at night was perfect.
Amazingly low rate for this cozy Garden Apartment w. great neighborhood amenities, convenience & ease to access the nearest subway line. Chung was a fantastic host who was not only professional & friendly, but also very accommodating to our needs as guests. My best friend & I visited New York to celebrate his milestone birthday & were looking for a place that was not only budget friendly, but also within a good distance from Times Square - This was the perfect location. The subway is less than a few feet away from the apartment, the neighborhood is safe, quiet & a beautiful nod to traditional Harlem aesthetics. It was important for my friend & I to stay in a place that felt like a peaceful home, where we could relax at the end of a day spent in the hustle & bustle of the commercial city...this was it! Our first night in we were a little cold, but Chung quickly provided a heater to accommodate us. The apartment is very true to form, no hidden surprises. We made good use of our outdoor space to socialize, & entertain guests with plenty of privacy. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Chung stocked the cabinets with the basic utensils, which really came in handy. He assured that a microwave would be installed for future guests, which is an ideal addition for people who tote back goodies from the city & want to nibble at night :) Overall, this was an amazing experience, Chung was awesome & I would definitely stay in the Garden Apartment again!
Great place to stay! Will def. check it out again if I'm in NY. Chung was a pleasant host! The room itself was awesome, it had a kitchen, plasma tv and internet. :)
I have known chung for 8 years, we went to graduate school together. He is a solid standup trustworthy guy. His apartment will be clean, and comfortable and he will make sure you enjoy your stay there and will help you with ideas on NYC. I recommend him for sure.
