Basic but very cosy and romantic. I slept very well in this quiet apartment. Neil - the host - is there but also allows you your privacy. Close to Dun Laoghaire and the DART station. I'll come back here if I'm in Dublin again.
This apartment is located so conveniently to dining, shopping and relaxing by the water! It was, at most, 3 blocks from the downtown area. The bed was very comfortable.
Neil was incredibly helpful and the perfect host. The pictures do over sell the place a bit, as it could do with a lick of paint and a bit of an upgrade in furnishings, given the price you are paying. All in all it was a good experience staying there.
Thanks Henry. You're right about the place needing a lick of paint. Once we have a gap in bookings I'm getting the painters in. I like to keep the furnishings simple though, to avoid clutter.
We booked 2 nights here for the end of our 10 day trip in Ireland. It had a very lived in feel. We had fresh towels but there were used soap bottles in the shower. The kitchen was clean but there was old food in the fridge. The fireplace was lovely but we couldn't ever get the wood or peat logs to really catch fire and when we did get a few flames the room seemed to get very smoky. The furniture was stylish and the bed comfortable but the chairs and sofa were unfortunately very dingy. And it was fairly quiet until about 8am in the morning when we woke up to pounding feet upstairs. After the first night we actually booked a hotel for our second night. He did give us a free parking pass since it was our honeymoon which was thoughtful.
Apartment was nice, exactly what I needed for the Web Summit, close to train and restaurants, Dublin parking is a nightmare. Easy to get to, in a nice quiet residential area.
Bathroom was a bit chilly but had a blow heater if required. Shower was basic but quite good with more than enough hot water available.
Very clean and tidy, no TV (I didn't need it) but plenty of books! Bed was large and comfy, fridge & kettle came in handy. Ideal base for a short business stay.
Host was friendly and unobtrusive, rang me with good directions, had room warm and cosy when I arrived. Plus he didn't mind that I absentmindedly took the key with me and had to post back!!
Honestly, I'm not sure that 500 words is enough to describe just how perfect both host and accommodations are!
To start, Neil was *incredibly* available and helpful even before I committed to the booking, as I had several questions, all of which he answered to the fullest, from questions about the accommodations themselves to questions about public transportation. He was friendly, approachable, and thorough.
When I arrived, the flat was in perfect order, and clearly freshly cleaned. The flat is exactly as pictured here..just lovely, with the kitchen a separate room (through an arch) off the main room.
Neil is so thorough that when you first walk in you will find on the window ledge papers with written information about everything you could possibly need, from the wireless wifi password to where the shops are, to public transportation information.
Even once I was there, Neil was so very helpful; for example I couldn't figure out how the heater worked, and within minutes of my SOS email to him, he'd responded and explained how to get the heat up.
Dun Laoghaire (pronounced, I have learned, "Dun Leery") is a *lovely* seaside town, with easy access in to Dublin on the Dart train (also by bus I'm told, although I didn't use the bus).
All in all, this accommodation, and this town, are a perfect combination for a lovely visit.
This property was just what we were looking for. It was private and yet very close to shops, parks, and transportation. The beds were comfortable and because our stay was longer (10 days) we liked having he use of a washing machine. Dun Laoghaire itself is beautiful. If you are going to Dublin, it would be easy to overlook this little suburb. Make sure you walk down to the bay, go out on the pier, you can walk the boardwalk easily to James Joyce Tower in Dalky. The Dart will take you to Dublin in 20 minutes going North and to Bray 20 minutes going South. After a long day of walking, it usually took me a bit longer than 10 minutes to walk back up to the apartment. We did not do a lot of eating out, but really enjoyed the food at the Sunday Market at People's Park. You could shop for everthing you need to feed yourself for a whole week. As far as the amenities, the shower was hot and the pressure decent. The kitchen is small and basic, but got the job done. Let me put it this way, I am coming back to Ireland in the Spring, and I hope to stay there again.
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here. We wanted to spend a nice relaxing weekend together and that is just what we got! Neil was flexible with our arrival and departure, and the basement studio apartment was lovely, comfortable and well-equipped. The only thing I would say ( which is my own fault) is that I didn't realize that the apartment is in Dún Laoghaire, Dublin county, and therefore you'll need to take the DART for roughly 30 mins to get to it from the city centre. So make sure you plan your arrival time well or you might get stuck with an expensive cab ride! Despite that, things worked out perfectly in the end, and we loved Dún Laoghaire, and this apartment was the perfect place for us. I would highly recommend staying here.
Great location. The Dart is nearby, downtown Dublin only a few minutes by train. Comfortable, big room, high ceilings, fire place, big picture window yet private. A small kitchen is really convenient especially if you stay more than a few days. Bathroom is adequate and the hot water works!. This is a good deal.
Neil and his family were really gorgeous. They have fully complied with the rules of the house, and also to their departure they left everything in order. I hope to have them as guests and I recommend them highly.
