I love dancing waltz and Lindy hop :-) especially with my sweetheart, who tends to sweep me into spontaneous dances when the music is right - at a park, farmers' market, social function, wherever the rhythm is strong and there's just enough room. Great times!
When I travel I like to explore things that locals recommend, and not just the touristy destinations. Visiting with other travelers or locals has provided some of the highlights from my travels. Food that is authentic to the local culture is also important to me.
In fact, food in general is important to me! When at home I spend a lot of time cooking healthy and tasty meals - my boyfriend says I have eliminated almost all incentives for him to take me out to dinner because he likes what I cook better :)
My ever-expanding kitchen garden supplies endless enjoyment and a bounty of fresh vegetables to our table. I am particularly enamored of purple potatoes, yellow carrots, and french green beans (which I pickle and enjoy throughout the year).
In the past year I've been learning to sail aboard a historic schooner. It's amazing to be out on the water under sail, and to feel the power of the wind, water, and team work of the crew. Even when it's not smooth sailing, it's an incredible feeling.
Riding my bicycle is another favorite activity of mine. When I was in San Francisco and in DC I borrowed/rented a bike and had a wonderful time touring around on two wheels. I think it's a great way to see a new place!
My boyfriend and I are respectful guests - considerate of others' things, their space, noise levels, etc. I like to know what to expect up front, but am flexible if unexpected things arise. Clear communication helps avoid unpleasant surprises, and I do what it takes to communicate clearly on my end.
