This place was absolutely amazing and will definitely be trying to go back and stay there again! The view from the cabin was right out of a high-end travel magazine but much more affordable than our hotel in Kona. Everything was as advertised and Keith made us feel right at home. This part of the island has the most beautiful and dramatic scenery that we found on the Big Island and we were lucky to get the opportunity to stay in this special place.
great spot in country setting next to amazing stream with several waterfalls… horses, peacocks and chickens running around… very private feeling and great place to relax.
This place Truly is Paradise!! His property has its own private waterfalls!!! We were welcomed by Chelsea who was very friendly and nice. Keith is an amazing guy to talk to he was in and out made sure to give us our privacy. He knows the island very well and recommended us places to go. Now let me make it clear it's the rain forest the drive at night can be scary specially on a rainy night witch was what happened to us. It's a off road do recommend getting a Jeep 4x4. It was the best choice many places in the Island require the 4x4. Spend the big bucks it's worth getting it... wish we could had stayed longer. If you get a clear night the view at night you see all the stars and shooting stars. The sunrise was amazing sadly most days where cloudy but one morning was just perfect. Summer time is better to go. Now just to make it clear it is the countryside make sure to buy food before arriving there is a fridge. Sitting on the lazy chairs having our morning breakfast with my wife felt good. Being from the city life,This was a whole new experience for us. Let me say he is is a fisherman he has his own boat wish I had knew that before we could had gone to catch fishes you won't regret you will catch something from the pictures he showed me. Also the bathroom is outside next to the cabin must say I loved it. If you are not a bug person well good luck but my wife managed there are frogs, Mosquitoes. Besides that he has Horses, Chickens, peacocks, and Roasters! Overall I recommend you stay here we will be back Keith. Mahalo!
The listing was well described. The cabin was clean. Great View. Two waterfalls very close to cabin you can hike and swim in. Great place to chill for the day.
We had exceptionally wonderful time at Horses and Waterfalls. Keith was a great host and has all the local knowledge. If you don't have a set agenda I strongly suggest to talk to Keith who can give a list of varied activities one can do around Hilo.
Both my kids had a blast playing with the chickens on the farm and my 6yr old daughter had good ride on the horses. The views from the house as mentioned by others are fantastic. We had a Ford Escape and had no trouble getting in and out of property even during heavy rains. The drive to the place is part of the experience and makes you feel you are driving away from civilization into a forest.
We would recommend this place to anyone with small kids as they really enjoy the farm animals and have a lot of place to run around and burn energy.
We had a wonderful time, this house felt like it was part of another world up on the grassy slopes above the ocean. The nearby stream and waterfalls were enchanting and Keith made sure we made the most of our short stay here. I especially liked the two horses and all the birds that call this place home. Definitely a highlight of our trip.
OH MY GOD. This might just be the best listing on all of airbnb!
We arrived and were greeted warmly by Chelsea, a friend of Keith's who lives on and helps take care of the property. She showed us around and led us to the two waterfalls for some afternoon swimming. Any time we had a question she dropped whatever she was doing and helped us out.
We could only stay for 36 hours, but during that time we spent lots of time swimming in the pools under the waterfalls, hiked around, fed and brushed the horses, got pictures of the peacocks, and ate freshly laid eggs from the chickens that hang out under the cabin.
My only concern prior to arriving had to do with the 4-wheel drive recommendation given that the property is pretty remotely located. Do not let that deter you--rent a wrangler and go for it. Keith's directions are excellent and the place is easy to find.
A beautiful location, amazing views, and extremely unique experience.
Keith and Chelsea are very welcoming and kind. The cottage/cabin has everything you need.
If you're looking for a rustic, 'off-the-grid' experience, this is your place. The waterfalls are a 2 minute walk at most and are amazing.
The drive in was an experience, and we managed in our Ford Focus, but it might intimidate some drivers and be more than some cars could do, especially in heavy rain.
I would recommend you drive in with all supplies you require for a 2-3 day stay so that you can avoid driving in and out. This place is a destination in itself, mind you Hilo is only about 20 minutes away.
Absolutely fabulous setting - a real experience. The property itself is great so plenty to explore without going anywhere. Keith has great stories and happy to give plenty of tourist information! The cabin has all the amenities - fridge freezer, hot water etc. It is quite open to the elements so we did have one quite disturbed night when the weather rolled in but it was completely worth it. I absolutely loved it. Lots of farm animals to entertain you horses, peacocks and a chicken even laid an egg in our cabin. I would recommend that you have at least a SUV as the access is quite tricky.
Horses and Waterfalls... and so much more! We loved the beauty of this home and the surrounding property. First, the home itself is wonderfully furnished inside. As if the beauty IN the rooms isn't enough, the views from the MANY, MANY windows are superb! We hiked down to the waterfall our first evening. There were a few waterfalls easily visible from the trails. More falls were accessible if you are willing to swim across a small pool. That night, I was a little chilly and decided that I would wait until the next morning before venturing into the water. However, I did not have a chance the next day - It rained heavily over night and we awoke to a distant rumbling sound. At daylight, we were surprised to see that the small stream of waterfalls was now a raging river of water and was roaring over the falls! It was amazing to see the difference after just one night! We had breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the lanai overlooking the ocean in the distance - BEAUTIFUL! Keith was available to answer questions and also helped us navigate back to the main highway on the day that we checked out because some of the dry stream beds we had crossed on the way in were now active streams of running water. Take the four wheel drive recommendation seriously! We made it to the property with a van -and a little excitement. This property was a great introduction to Hawaiian living, off-the grid and off the beaten path! SO GLAD we booked this home and we are hoping to return on future visits - with 4 wheel drive! :)
