If you are looking for a quiet secluded place then Sally's is it. The house is 7 minutes from Montezuma, up and down some very steep hills. A car that can master the hills and dirt roads will be a must to ensure a more leisurely ride. But totally doable and almost fun after you get the hang of it.
The house is quaint and perfect for 2. The bedroom is airy and lets in all the morning light, as well as the nice breeze. The patio is the BEST feature. We spent all our time out there.
The dog (Echo) is adorable and quick to warm up after a day around you. The cats are also wicked lovey.
Some downsides are the locked windows that don't allow airflow downstairs, NO WiFi (or pay to connect), the iguanas in the roof that make crazy noises, and the sometimes tricky bathrooms.
For us the listing was a little misleading since there was no access to the studio, there was only 1 room and 1 bed. This may be because we were 2 people but it would have been nice to have access to everything that was advertised.
We had a lovely stay at Sally's place. It is simple but sweet, up on a hill with a lovely breeze and the price is right. Definitely need 4-wheel drive as the roads are rough but there is a lot to do in the area . We grew quite attached to the dog Echo and enjoyed hanging out on the porch listening to the howler monkeys and savoring the breeze and the sound of the ocean.
We booked Sally's home for our first visit to Montezuma and it certainly did the job. It's good to know that it's a little bit of a rough drive from town (you'll DEFINITELY need four-wheel drive vehicle to make it up the steep hills) and you won't want to walk to town or the beach. But if you're looking for a place that's quiet and more out of the way, it's perfect. It's also important to note that this listing does not actually have wi-fi even though it is listed as having it. We asked Sally about this once we were able to find some wi-fi in town and she informed us that the house only has a wired connection (no good for us since we were traveling with cell phones and ipads). The first floor is also very hot since all of the windows are bolted shut. Upstairs is much breezier when you open all the windows. We did have a bit of a scare when Sally's cat busted through the second floor bedroom screen and jumped around our heads and onto the dresser, knocking over a wine glass in the process, but once we realized it was just a house cat, we were able to relax and go back to sleep!
Sally met us and made us welcome. If you are looking for a real Costa Rican home experience in a peaceful setting, this is it. The house sits on a hill which provides a good view and a breeze. The resident dog, Echo, and the two cats are good company. Then there are the occasional howler monkey calls. Driving directions are important, especially if arriving in the dark.
We had a great time staying at Sally's place. It was relaxing and remote while still being a short drive or 30 minute hike to Montezuma and the beautiful beaches. Sally was attentive and very helpful getting us situated and relaxed. We would definitely stay at Sally's place again!
