Loves history, loves to travel, spend time with family and working in the garden.
Oak Island was a wonderful destination for our family and the location of the home made access to the beach and other important amenities quite easy. The home is quite spacious and is provisioned with everything needed for the beach and for making the trip affordable through use of the kitchen, washer/dryer, etc. The Frazier's description of the home is quite accurate and it was everything we hoped it would be.
This place was perfect for our Spring Break. Carol and Dennis replied just in time for our last minute request and contacted us upon arrival to make sure everything was as we expected. Oak Island Beach is a great place to be low key and remember the beach towns of old without the big factory restaurants and outlet shops. Great beach and a great time..
We stayed at this listing in late 2011/early 2012. Carol and Dennis are wonderful hosts - very aware of what a first-time visitor to the area may need to know (there is a binder with a lot of useful information as well as some area maps). Their communication was great from our first inquiry to the time we actually were in the house. The house itself was spotless - microwave, oven, pots and pans as well as fridge clean - and there were also some condiments and staples (sugar, flour). The kitchen is well-equipped with pots and pans big enough to cook for a family with a couple of kids (we were only 3 adults, no kids, and used only two of the three very welcoming bedrooms). The only thing I missed was a whisk, which we bought and left as our little contribution to the kitchenware. :-) Access was without a hitch and there were a bunch of great items in the shed behind the house for our use (for example beach chairs, bikes). The location is excellent - very quiet, close to the inland waterway (there's a little park with a pier where you can sit and fish... with a license) and also close to the beach. We liked the place so much that we started looking at real estate that was for sale. Maybe we won't be buying now, but I am pretty sure we'll be back in the area soon. Oh, one more thing.... Carol and Dennis even seem to have made sure that every day was sunny and warm enough to walk on the beach barefoot!
Carol and her husband Dennis are very communicative from the moment you first contact them. They clearly take their responsibility as hosts seriously, and they made us feel comfortable from the beginning. Check-in was a fiasco, unfortunately, and it cut into our time to enjoy the house. Since Carol and Dennis were out of town, there were limits to what they were able to do to help us when we arrived. That said, they bent over backwards to make up for the initial problems, and we enjoyed our time overall. The house is clean and comfortable with lots of fun amenities (our favorite was the hammock on the screened-in porch). Because there is a full kitchen, we were able to save a lot of money by cooking meals. Cleaning before check-out takes awhile, which would make staying more than one night worth it. We loved the riverfront park across the street from their house, and we walked to the beach, pier, and restaurants. It was a good place to stay for our 1-year-old daughter.
