Good and pleasant experience! Was little difficult to find, but Stephen came and helped!
Stephen is very friendly and welcoming. The room has all the necessities you need and it's located just across a convenience shop making it easy to shop and eat, even in the middle of the night. From the bus stops located nearby you can access almost all of the tourist locations in Kyoto.
The room is also well maintained and fits 3 people nicely although some people may find it a little bit smallish.
In sum, if you need a good and cheap place to sleep and explore Kyoto during the day, this is the place.
We have stayed at Stephen's home for one week.
Stephen is a very good host, he does evething in order that the guests feel comfortable. Commuication via email was uncomplicated and Stepehn has always answed very quickly.
Description how to reach the room by public transportation was very helpfull and Stephen gave us lots of usefull tips how to get around the city and where you can eat in the neighbourhood.
The room is basic but it was clean and comfortable, the kitchen is small, bath and toilet as well but it's normal for Japan ;). The room is located a bit far away from the city center and especially from the Kyotomain station (30 to 40mn by direct bus), but you can reach all sightsseings without inconvenient by bus. There is lots of students in the neighbourhood because it's close to the university, so it's a quite interesting area. We recommand the Prinz restaurant just 2 munutes walk from the room.
The room is a good value in terms of price and quality. Thank you Stephen.
Thank you very much for your detailed and friendly comment Manue :) I'm so glad that you have good experience in Kyoto~
We had an excellent stay in Kyoto. The appartment is convenient and a good introduction to Japanese way of leaving, c/w futon sleeping and japanese bathtub.
A little far from Kyoto station but still a good base to explore Kyoto with 2 bus lines and one train station within walking distance, in a quiet and lovely neighborhood.
We stayed at Stephen's in Kyoto for 5 nights. Were a family of 5, with 3 teenage girls and although the place is very small it sufficed in terms of space. The use of mobile wifi and the washing machine were very convenient. Main downside was the grungy kitchenette, which we deemed unusable. Location/access is so - so: Good for Ginkakuji, but requires multiple busses/trains (or a ~1 mile walk, if you want to eliminate one of them) for anywhere else. Great "concept" restaurant/bar/lounge called Prinz right next door, lovely to hang out at.
Stephens place was great for us, easy to find with good directions from Stephen. We enjoyed the neighborhood and the people living there. Quite close to philosophers walk.
Great accommodation! Basic but everything you need is there! Very easy to access the apartment, and easy handling in general! It's quite easy to get there by train, and the stores around the apartment are convenient, as most of them are open 24h! Thank you!!!
Stephen's place is in a good location and you have all the amenities you need. His wifi is great. It needed to be cleaned better, but he does not charge a cleaning fee. All in all I would recommend. Everything else was perfect and the value is unbeatable.
it's a little far from jr station.if the first time to kyoto,I suggest to live near jr,bus to here about 40mins. But the room is ok ,shower room is small.
Thanks to Stephen, we got a nice trip. The room is clean, the wifi is good.
Stephen booked my place a day before they needed accommodation and I was a bit unprepared regarding the key handling as I was not in town at the time. I was amazed how Stephan remained patient as I was unable to communicate with him on time (due to my one day meeting) as well as I needed to have him visit my business partner who was a bit apart from his and my places. Stephan sounded friendly and professional when we talked over the phone. Although I did not meet him in person in the end, I highly recommend to accommodate him when you have a chance.
