Thanks to Joe (email hidden) to stay while visiting Cambridge. The apartment is beautifully presented and its location could not be better. Joe met me at the front of the building and gave me the ropes quickly - I would definitely recommend staying here!
This apartment is in a great location in Harvard Square with easy access to many shops, Harvard University, metro and buses. We found it to be very clean, with lovely strong water pressure in the bathroom. The stove was new. Joe was there to meet us when we arrived as arranged by phone and email.
There were a couple of disappointing aspects to our stay. The apartment was advertised as having a "day bed" in the living room, but this was nothing more than a box, no matress, only quilt and cushions. We were relying on that bed for one of us. Joe did know there were three of us before we arrived, (no couple) but did not warn us. So although the double bed in the bedroom was very comfortable, only one of us could sleep there. Secondly and very importantly, there was no table or desk. One of us wanted to do some work that required such a space. We expected this to be present in an apartment.
This was my first experience w/ Airbnb. The place was great, one block away from Harvard Square and the T-Stop (subway). Very clean and homey (neighbors even came out an introduced themselves). Only negatives were - 3rd floor walk up and no A/C (but did have multiple ceiling fans throughout unit). I would definitely rent again!
I spent lovely 2 weeks in Joe's flat and it was really nice, peaceful and quiet, though I didn't meet Joe himself. The location is excellent, it's a quiet street, the houses/apartment buildings are set back and surrounded by an elegant courtyard; the flat itself is light-filled (on the 4th floor - no elevator! I didn't mind the exercise); Joe was so kind to provide me with a electrical water cooker (I am a tea drinker and it saves much time and energy!) which made me feel even more at home. Thank you, I will be back!
We looked forward to stay at Joe's place since we were promissed to have our own small apartment on Harvard Square.
However Joe didn't respond during the week up to our arrival. When we arrived in Boston we still hadn't heard from him, but we still decided to take a taxi to his place and see if we could get in. When we were in the taxi, he called us and said he had a family emergency and had to leave the state. He told us where to find a key, but since someone had just checked out there wouldn't be clean bedsheets, towels and so on. The place wasn't cleaned either. He asked us to go and buy sheets and promised to pay for it. However we arrived Sunday night and couldn't find any stores open at that time. The place was dirty and had a strange smell, so we decided never to use the place and checked in at a hotel instead.
We have requested a full refund, but Joe is not at all good at responding and today 2 weeks after we still haven't gotten our money back.
This is a great spacious attic loft, very clean and comfortable, that sits in a park. The location overlooks the water and Boston, and the neighborhood is safe. It is a short bus ride into Boston. The value is great, I'd stay there again.
The apartment and the neighborhood are both very nice. The apartment is clean and well decorated. We did not get a chance to meet Joe, but he managed to arrange our visit flawlessly. Enthusiastically recommended to anyone in the area.
