Tim and his wife, Barbara-Jan were very welcoming (as was their dog Captain, and cat, Jinx). The suite was very nice and consisted of a large bedroom, a private bathroom, a kitchen, and a living room, and while it was a separate wing of the house, Tim and Barbara-Jan were very welcoming to the rest of the house as well. They even left some snacks and drinks in the fridge downstairs for me.
I was in Chester during Hurricane Irene and Tim had said before I arrived that if my travel plans were negatively affected and I needed to stay extra time because of the hurricane, that I could stay as long as I needed to get home without an extra charge. This was useful because there was no way for me to leave (amtrak or airplane) until the day after I had orignally planned.
Tim went the extra mile (no pun intended) by picking me up from the train station and dropping me off at the airport, when I arrived and left and even giving me a ride to and from East Haddam one day of my trip (4 miles)
Tim and his wife are both in higher education and enjoy hosting students in their beautiful home (the views are amazing).
One tip about Chester though, is that it is very hard to get around without a car (no sidewalks or public transit). Downtown Chester and the Norma Terris theatre are close enough to walk to though (but rent a car if you are able).
Even though the power went out along with most of connecticut's (Thanks Irene....) I enjoyed my time in Chester, CT in Tim and Barbara-Jan's house (they even offered me the guestroom if I was uncomfortable because of the storm in the loewr-level suite.
