Great area, great apartment. Very nice balcony overlooking the pool and a pasture. Large kitchen/living air, comfortable bed, and spacious bathroom. Very informal and relaxed. A helper gave us the key on arrival and we dropped it with her on the way out. Maria answered questions and set us up with an amazing masseur by text.
Marpas is a good option for those visiting Dumaguete who want to be out of the city. It is located on the outskirts of Valencia, a small town about 15 minutes from Dumaguete. It is laid back, clean, friendly, and charming. 10 minute moto ride from Casaroro falls, which is an amazing visit if you are in decent fitness.
Overall would recommend this highly if you want comfort and style outside of Dumaguete.
Me, my husband and three children stayed four nights at MARPAS eco farm house and enjoyed being one with nature. Half the house is indoors (one double bed), half is outdoors (a second double bed, the kitchen and dining table). Having the horse, cows and cats around the house is very charming. The sunrises are truly spectacular, as are the stars at night.
We had a few encounters with ants (getting to our food) and non-poisonous scorpions.
Finding Marpas can be a bit tricky, especially if you travel in the dark from Dumaguete, like we did. Maria was very helpful in getting us there but try to make the journey while it is light.
Marpas is far from supermarkets so we made one big shop in Dumaguete before we left. Daytime we went swimming by Cove sands and Kookoo's Nest, where it is also possible to eat lunch and dinner. Having our own car was a definite plus, giving us the freedom to explore the area.
