I have lived in the Denver, Colorado, area all my life. I have two sisters and two brothers who also live here, and I am close to them and their children. My husband, Steven, and I belong to our local volunteer fire department. I am a wildland firefighter and emergency medical responder while Steven handles radio communication.
For work, my twin sister, Shelley, and I buy, renovate, and rent condos and small houses. I have been a landlady for over twenty years, and I love my job. Sure, sometimes toilets misbehave and I have too much work to do in the summer, but it is very satisfying to provide lovely places for people to live. I tease my mother that I've grown up to be a cleaning lady, but I also paint and mow lawns and caulk windows! The variety in my work is a lot of fun.
My husband and I haven't traveled very much, a few trips to New York and California, two visits to Mexico, and a couple of cruises with my parents. I went to England once for a month as an adult exchange business person sponsored by the Rotary International, and ten years ago Steven and I went to France for nine days in December. We started in Paris, then rented a car and visited Chartres, Bourges, a couple of villages in the Massif Central, and then Carcassonne. Many French people we spoke with seemed amazed that we would travel so far in only a week, but we are used to driving very long distances in Colorado - this is a big state!
I speak a bit of Spanish, and my husband speaks a bit of French. Between the two of us we can usually communicate wherever we go. Our next trip will be to France in honor of Steven's sixtieth birthday. My twin sister and her finance will be going with us. We are very excited about returning to such a wonderful country.
