Light and airy condo with comfortable seating and sleeping. Convenient for local transportation and small grocery stores. Bedford area and subway to the city a healthy walk or short cab ride away. Good and friendly coffee/ bagels shop (Cafe Edna) nearby. Large TV with apple TV connection, well set up kitchen, eating space and bathroom. We had several friends over for an evenings conversation and the space works well for visiting, multiple conversations, etc. Balcony was a great bonus space and a hit with us and our Brooklyn friends. Once the windows were closed and the A/C on, the unit was very quiet and peaceful. Effective window coverings with no night light intrusions. Alex was easy to contact, pleasant and very responsive to the few issues encountered. We will definitely come again and highly recommend both the owner and the space.
no clean bedding available, only dirty and unwashed no clean towels available, on HOST INSTRUCTED US TO DO THE LAUNDRY OF THE BEDDING AND TOWELS OURSELVES dirty and unkept balcony area [ cigaret butts + filthy chairs no working stove available our stay was more of a burden that enjoyable time, since we had to worry about clean sheets and towels as well as not being able to cook at all.
Alex's flat was great.
It was a bit small for the 4 of us but we knew it beforehand and there was no surprise here. I would rather advertise it for 3 ppl max though as the sofa bed is not very big (and not extremely comfortable to sleep either). Ideally, if you're a couple, this flat is perfect for you. It's very recent and clean and the neighborhood is very quiet but you're not too far from a lot of great restaurants in Bedford Avenue. (expect to walk quite a lot though. if it's your first time in NYC and you want to spend most of your time in Manhattan, unless you like a long commute, stay closer)
We had a great experience overall. There were some issues with the Internet but Alex managed to handle them quickly. Also, we didnt manage to get the gas working so we couldn't exactly cook as we wanted but who eats in in New York anyway?
Alex's apartment is as nice as the pictures - comfy couch, huge tv with cable and Apple TV, good WiFi, huge bed, hot shower and deep bathtub. It is close to 2-3 different subway stations, about 10 mins from the G train and about 15-20 from the L train. We took a mixture of both during our stay, and both were regular. Greenpoint itself looked really nice, a very Polish neighbourhood, with lots of nice delis, bakery's and cafés.
The only downside to our stay was that we couldn't get the gas hob on the cooker to work, and therefore couldn't use the apartment to cook in during our stay, which was our primary objective. I also do not think the heating ever worried either. As Alex was away it was harder to sort out, communication was patchy and although someone was supposed to come and check it via a neighbour while we were out, it never worked during our stay and the food we had already purchased went to waste. We contacted Alex about this after we arrived home, as we felt we deserved a partial refund of our rent. We never heard back from him.
We got the subway to and from the airport with minimal fuss. There will be some staircases occasionally as not all subway stations have escalators/elevators, but two of us managed 2 suitcases, 3 pieces of hand luggage and 2 backpacks so it can be done. It is also noted on the subway map as to which ones do and don't so you can plan your journey. The AirTrain is $5 and a subway ticket is $2.50. We were buying a weekly subway ticket so that was ok. If you decided to do it you should keep the AirTrain card and your subway cards as there is a small surcharge to get them but they can be refilled (and I think the surcharge can be spent).

Alex's appartement is sublime. Very sunny, charming, chic and clean. Everything was perfect. The kitchen is awesome and the bed is very comfy. We were sad to quit this wonderful place. Which is, by the way, very well located.
We're already planning a return.
The apt is just as advertised. Alex was very accommodating and responsive to any questions & requests. Great neighborhood with beautiful park within a couple blocks, plenty of restaurants & nightlife a short walk away.
