Hi, I'm a Chicago-based professional jazz musician with several albums out and a really gorgeous condo that is super-expensive to live in. Hello, airbnb! I'm an excellent hostess and have dozens of testimonials on this site to back up that claim, so, please make your stay in Chicago with me and make a new friend in the process?
I love great wines, particularly full-bodied red wines. And I love to share a great bottle with someone who has great insight to share.
I love thunderstorms and snowstorms-- I guess because they can mirror the tempestuous soul.
I detest smoke and find drug-use a huge turn-off; it just depresses me. Neither are acceptable in my home or propinquity.
Can't cook. Won't try. Great at ordering take-out, though.
Hate the sound of clashing silverware.
Love children more than anything (!!!!) but I don't have a child-friendly condo.
Would rather have terminal cancer than a broken heart.
Jazz snob-- no, I don't think Norah Jones is a jazz singer, stop asking me to sing her stupid songs. (Sorry)
You will hear plenty of Chet Baker, Monk, Anita O'Day, Ben Webster, Cannonball Adderly, Wes Montgomery, Carmen McRae, Sarah Vaughan, Mel Torme, Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson... you catch the drift, I'm a jazz-baby.
Love lots of genres of music (Blues, Celtic, Classical, folk, Middle Eastern, French cabaret, classic rock...) but really cannot tolerate rap or the current definition of R&B/soul. Most pop past the 90's sucks. (LOL... I am so making enemies here...)
I have more *friends* (not acquaintances-- FRIENDS) than anyone you may ever meet! Literally. It's a blessing. My loyalty is deep and wide to people who are heartfelt and kind. ;) Often, I like to have a few people over for wine, cheese, political discussions, chats about matters of the heart... Quiet company time is a favorite past time of mine.
I prefer the city-scape to the prairie. I love a full moon. I wear stilettos like an infant wears diapers- ALWAYS. ;-))
I love poetry and people who live poetic lives.
I am hopeless with most technology and miss things like phones with buttons. My iphone is an irritation to me more than a beloved treasure.
People say I was born in the wrong era. I agree.
Nothing better than a person with a quick and unique sense of humor and a compassionate, fearless heart.
People show their true character when they think no one is looking.
Sports bars have taken over America. That isn't a good thing.
There's nothing sexier than humility.
I'd rather be trusting and mistaken than safely pessimistic.
If you can make grilled cheese you might as well be Charlie Trotter in my world.
Good parents are my favorite people.
Fashion is an expression of personality, but real beauty comes from within.
I am intolerant of intolerance. Racism is the most disgusting characteristic of man.
I like to box with my trainer in my pink boxing gloves, yet I was a ballet dancer more than half my life.
I'm allergic to most animals. It's ridiculous how bad my allergies are. So the cruel irony is I love animals but I avoid them like the plague or I'm sick for days.
Strangers on airplanes usually become friends with me-- or hate it when I fall asleep on their shoulder as they try to read... or sit comfortably in their own space. (LOL)
A goal is to learn several languages.
Old people make my heart melt, and I often want to snuggle them like grandparents. The lineage of history that dwells inside their eyes is a reminder to live a good, productive, grateful life.
I prefer baths to showers and candlelight to sunlight.
I think Reality TV is one of the country's biggest embarrassments and teachers should earn what basketball players make in a career.
I'm in awe of people who can draw, paint, sculpt, sew, build things...
I do not know the difference between a baseball and a football. (Kidding- but only slightly).
If it's a choice between a tellurian wine bar/cafe OR the hot new stand-in-line for an hour nightclub?: Wine bar. Even if I have VIP passes, free drinks all night, celebrity hosts-- those "scenes" of pick up joints and crowded clubs make me disengaged. I prefer a half empty room at closing time with deep conversation.
I have bouts of insomnia. But I typically write in those times.
I like to clean and scrub the apartment-- it's cathartic.
I like people who are thoughtful, witty, compassionate and honest. Clean and respectful is appreciated too.
People with dreams are common. People that follow their dreams and sacrifice their comfort to pursue their deeper passions, with focused tenacity: they are the spice of life that inspires.
You can tell a lot about a person by how they treat a waiter, a doorman, a busboy, a janitor and an assistant.
Money doesn't buy class. Or good taste.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone is someone's child.
Everyone has a gift.
Music, at it's best, is a healer.
One genuine smile can change a stranger's entire day.
I'd rather be remembered as a loving person than an attractive one.
