Polly was an angel of graciousness and service. Polly, being of strong New England stock, made one feel warmly welcomed. Polly was as helpful as she was caring. She knew the ins and outs of Boston, simplified my itinerary and personally enlightened me on the cultural and picturesque doings and history of Boston. We shared cups of coffee and became friends. Polly extended me every courtesy, even to posting my left behind shoes. I feel Polly has enriched my life and has been an inspiration to me. The room was beautifully decorated, most comfortable, and thoroughly enjoyable. Polly added so much to an already beautiful setting. Not just my stay but my life has been enriched by this wonderfully attractive, kind, and helpful Bostonian. When I think I would have paid about the same cost to stay at a motel outside of town, I thank my lucky stars, or should I say, a angel named Polly.
Polly was warm and friendly, and and always greeted me with a hearty "hello." I felt at home immediately, and enjoyed the accommodations and delicious breakfasts. Hard to beat! The private bath and air conditioning were two additional pluses.
It was hard for me to find a pet friendly place, and Polly permitted my cat Charlotte to share my room for the four-day stay. She loved the view very much and was quite rebellious when it was time to leave.
If you are looking for a peaceful, cozy stay in an authentic Cambridge home by the river near Harvard Square, choose the Riverbend. And you may also get to meet some of the wonderful people in Polly's life.
Polly was a phenomenal hostess. This was my first Airbnb experience, and based upon what my friends have said about their experiences, I think this one will be hard to top. Polly was very communicative, checking in with me by email about arrival and departure times, and was there to greet me when I arrived. It really was more like a quaint bed-and-breakfast than an Airbnb. I felt welcomed and treated like I was at my parents' home. Polly left a lovely breakfast for me, and a kind note the first morning. The second morning, she was there to have breakfast with me, even though it was so early. We had a lovely conversation; I could not have asked for a better hostess.
The neighborhood is beautiful and quite safe. I walked to and from the Harvard Square station both in the early morning and late at night. The neighborhood is filled with little historical signs providing info about colonial-era Boston. I discovered on my walk the subway, that Polly's house is just a block or two from the home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow--a real treat since I spent part of the weekend enjoying the history and nature of Concord, Lexington and Walden Pond.
I would recommend Polly's place to anyone, and I will definitely stay here again if my travels take me back to Boston soon.
I enjoyed my stay at Polly's place very much. The location was very convenient for me (and easy walk to Harvard Square, then the T). The house is a nice (older) house with character. I enjoyed having breakfast with Polly each morning and chatting about (mostly) Boston - she knows a lot about the area. She was a great host.
thanks for the nice review, roger. I loved hearing about Oklahoma and Florence. do come back and bring your wife too.
Polly was a wonderful hostess, making me feel completely welcome -- even to the point of accommodating a late-night arrival. Her breakfasts of eggs, French toast with local maple syrup, and (most importantly) strong coffee were the perfect fuel for morning explorations of Boston. Polly clearly knows and loves the Cambridge area, and offered great suggestions about what to do, see, and eat.
The Riverbend Bed and Breakfast itself is in a charming and safe location, 10 minutes' walk from Harvard Square. Couldn't be easier to get around from this cozy home base. Air conditioning and wifi worked flawlessly. Highly recommended!
thanks for all the nice comments. I hope we meet again. Polly
It was a pleasure to stay at Polly's house, she is a really nice and welcoming host. The room is just like in the picture, with well functioning air condition and wifi. Very nice and quite area next to the Charles river, just 10 minutes by foot from the lively Harvard Square. From there there it is just another 15 minutes by subway to Boston downtown. A perfect place to stay.
Polly was a very welcoming and caring host. Although she had broken her leg everything was well prepared when I arrived and breakfast was ready every morning.
The room and bathroom were clean and I had them all for myself.
The house is situated next to the river and Harvard square and the metro station are in good walking distance. If you are a light sleeper (which I am unfortunately) some earplugs for the night could be helpful since there is a street with lots of traffic in front of the house.
Whether you are there for business or pleasure I can only recommend this host.
Enjoy your stay!
Listing description totally accurate. There was great communication with the host. The neighborhood was quiet and close to everything.
The stay with Polly went well. Comfortable room and good location in Cambridge. We appreciated the breakfast that was provided. The wifi was spotty at times.
I could not have been made more welcome by Polly. She has been warm but not intrusive. I have felt totally at home. Her home is warm and welcoming, just as the photos show. I felt more like a family guest than a lodger. I enjoyed fresh fruit and yoghurt for breakfast, and scrambled eggs if desired. Wonderful! Most of all I have enjoyed conversations with Polly.
The proximity to Harvard University (just a 12 minute walk) has been a real bonus.
It has been a pleasure and a privilege to stay here. I could not recommend Riverbend B&B more highly.
