Staying at Jeremy and Valerie's place was the highlight of our month in France! The stone cottage is cozy and well decorated, with a lovely wood-burining stove, and has a lovely historic Norman feel. All around you are beautiful fields and farms, we took walks and saw cows, lambs and all the farm animals you could want to encounter if you were a kid. Our son loved exploring the apple orchard, and meeting the barn cats. Jeremy is an excellent host, probably the best in our years of Air B and B experience. He loaned us his bike, a pan when we needed it, and even had cupcakes waiting for us. And a nice guy all around, even loaned our son a video about WWII, because they were talking about it. This is a great location to explore all of Normandy, but even close-by Vire has historic interest and the village of St. Germain de Tallevende had a lovely bakery and grocery (with incredibly nice and helpful people who helped us with our French). There are some wonderful walking paths right outside the door, and Jeremy even let us borrow his well-behaved gentleman dog for a walk (we are dog people...so were missing ours). We visited the D-Day beaches and Mont Saint Michel, as well as everything in between, there are so many tiny roads to explore and stumble across something lovely. There is a beautiful garden just out the door and it's extremely quiet and peaceful, but close enough to town for a drive to get groceries. We can't say enough good things, and hope our travels might lead us back. There were even a few kids DVDs my son watched after some long exploring days, and a shelf full of novels and guide books. Well worth your money ( and less expensive than our accommodations in Paris).
We wanted peace and quiet and that was what we got. It was fabulous. So calm. The other thing that we think is quite difficult to find in France is a decent off-lead dog walk and this place certainly has this too.
We went for 2 weeks and took plenty of DVDs to catch up on and Jeremy had said there was a player but when we got there the remote was missing. He said there was nothing he could do so my husband decided he had to go out and buy another player just for the holiday.
House ups and downs - lovely comfortable bedroom, really well-equipped kitchen but sadly with really smelly sink, little enclosed garden, ENGLISH TV so we could watch the news every day!
My husband, our little dog and I had such a lovely stay in Jeremy and Valerie's cottage. It's the perfect place to stay to explore the surrounding area. We drove all around Brittany and Normandy from it. if you have a dog it's ideal because the gated garden makes it easy to let it out, while the nearby footpaths are perfect for a morning walk. We even walked as far as the closest village, where we were rewarded for our efforts with a delicious pain au chocolat and baguette from the local boulangerie. The kitchen in the cottage is really well stocked, but the best bit was the bedroom, which featured the comfiest bed we've probably ever stayed in - hotels and otherwise. This comes highly recommended. We may well be back!
The place was perfect for what we wanted as the location was ideal. It was a short stay and we really just needed a place to sleep, so not much time spent in the accommodation. However, Jeremy and Valerie were lovely, friendly and helpful. The location is a beautiful, peaceful setting and we had a very nice, comfortable stay.
A great cottage in a very peaceful setting. Once we had our bearings, found the location good for visiting Bayeaux, D-Day beaches, Mt St Michel, St Malo as well as locally Vire and Flers.
The cottage was very clean and well equipped for our six day stay. We were made to feel very welcome by Valerie and Jeremy. If you wish to stay in this part of Normandy, we would have no hesitation to recommend this St Germain cottage.
Nice place. Jeremy is a very kind man and always ready to help.
The house in a perfect and quiet place, a wonderful starting point for many trips in Normandy.
The reservation was canceled 5 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Valerie and Jeremy are very pleasant, friendly and helpful hosts. The cottage is clean and cosy and the kitchen is well-equipped! In the nice little garden you can eat or just relax and enjoy the beautiful countryside. Gismo, the cat, is always there to keep you company if you like. The cottage is a good starting point to visit the landing beaches, towns like Caen and Granville, the Cotentin Peninsula, but also the nice villages and smaller towns in the surrounding area. Valerie and Jeremy provide two bikes, so you can cycle on the old railway. We went to Mortain and visited the old abbey, which was interesting and a bit scary. Go to a farm and buy local products like Cidre, Calvados and apple juice. I definitely recommend Jeremy’s and Valerie’s cottage!
Jeremy and Valerie's cottage is a lovely, lovely find in Normandy and the first thing I said was that I'd like to rent it for the whole summer! We felt at home right away. Valerie was so kind as to give us the grand tour, as well as a basket of breakfast things (yum!), some firewood, and olive oil (which we'd forgotten to purchase for our cooking). Though ill, Jeremy also arrived on the porch with more firewood! We felt so welcomed and cannot recommend staying with them more highly.
The rooms are sunny and cheerful, the kitchen is stocked with tools for cooking (you may want to take some groceries, as the store in town closes early and the cottage is out of town away from restaurants), the nearby walking trail is idyllic, Norman sights are an easy drive (we went to Mont-St-Michel and the D-Day beaches and museums in the two days we had), local food and the grocery store in town are amazing. Go to Calvados and stay with Jeremy and Valerie!
We had a great stay in Jeremy and Valerie's cottage in the Calvados region of Normandy. The area is very cute and very remote (traffic as little as 5 cars/day!); perfect for a real break from our busy lives. The famous Mont Saint Michel, the D-day beaches and Saint Malo are very close by and definitely worth a visit.
The cottage is simple and very well equipped, everything is there! Both Jeremy and Valerie were very kind and helpful, even when the car got stuck in their lawn because of the heavy rainfall.
The features we enjoyed the most were the fireplace (we visited in the winter) and the optional cat.
