We are a fun loving family who enjoys hosting people from all over the world.
I stayed here for two months. The hosts were friendly and invited me to meals on occasion. On my first day, they took me grocery shopping to get me started since I didn't have a car to drive. They lent me a bowl, a cup, and a can opener upon my request. The basement was as pictured, plus there was a mini fridge and a microwave for me to use! There were gnats in the bathroom for the first week or two as the space had not been in use much. The shower leaked water and I was assured that it would be fixed eventually. Some of the lights burnt out during my stay and they never got around to replacing the bulbs. I am sure if I had been more assertive about it, these problems would have been addressed.
The immediate neighborhood is usually very nice during the day. There are many different restaurants, a grocery store, and a small movie theater within about a mile of the house. The buses were unpredictable until I discovered the NJT MyBus app which shows expected arrival times for buses at a given bus stop. At night, leaving the house's road was pretty scary. I was approached by a driver who tried to get me to get closer to the vehicle and look him in the eye. Another time, some speeding young people tried to scare me by screaming at me as they passed. It can be intimidating but it is safe if you make good judgment calls and try not to walk around alone at night if you are female.
While it was not perfect, I greatly enjoyed my time here and would recommend it to anyone who can handle small insects by themselves and has enough street smarts to stay out of trouble.
I recently moved from Arizona to New York and I stayed in this room for my first month of my move. I found this home to be the perfect transition from AZ to the big city. It’s not far from NYC, but still has that beautiful, quiet, “small town” feel.
My dad stayed with me for the first two nights I was here and we were both very happy with our trip. David and Deena were more than accommodating. They allowed me to use their washer and dryer and I had my own microwave and fridge. Their kids were friendly and sweet. I was able to enjoy meals with the family on occassion and if I needed anything, they were always so helpful.
The room is large with two comfortable beds and a tv (that can be hooked up to a wii). The room comes with its own bathroom and shower. The shower did leak from the outside, and I think is in the process of getting fixed, but still worked fine for me.
The bus ride to Port Authority every morning was about 30 to 45 minutes. It’s a coach bus ride into the city, where you were able to sit and zone out for the commute, not bad at all. From Port Authority, I rode the subway into work.
When I had spare time, I was able to explore Teaneck, and found the area to be quaint and enjoyable. The main street with a movie theatre and shops are about a 10 to 15 minute walk away. Overall, I loved the neighborhood...cute houses and tree-lined streets.
Thank you so much to David and Deena for giving me a comfortable home to stay in and such a lovely family to stay with!
The place was comfortable and it was easy to catch a bus to the city. Thanks for making us feel at home.
I traveled to New Jersey to spend time with my son, his wife and new daughter. I was in this rental from about 9 pm to 9 am for 5 evenings. It is a basement suite with easy access from the back door of the home, which is in a pleasant neighborhood. The TV was not operational, except for DVD's and games. This was disappointing since I enjoy morning news and also missed being able to check out the Olympics! Otherwise, I enjoyed the remodeled bath and convenience of the space. The Fishers were a great family, welcoming and accommodating.
I requested the room on very short notice and David very quickly responded by accepting me. His communications by email were helpful (he asked if I had any special requests and the one I did -- for extra pillows - was provided).
I was charmed by David and Dena and their three lovely children. They could not have been nicer or more considerate. Dena even baked a challah for my sick friend at Care One Rehab facility which is only a mile away by car.
The room itself is big with two comfortable twin beds separated by a bureau kept empty for guests. The comforters were fluffy and warm and half a dozen towels were provided including a wash cloth up to a bath sheet. There is no breakfast. Bear in mind that this home is kept Kosher so you will need to be mindful of what goes into the refrigerator and check with the hosts about what might be cooked. I did not cook and I used the IHOP that is very near for my breakfasts.
Though it is a half-basement (there is a small window), the room is bright with recessed ceiling lights and there is also a ceiling fan. A word to the wise; if you are very tall, be mindful that the fan was not too mych over my head and I am six feet tall in shoes. I do not do stairs very well and this easy carpeted staircase with only ten or twelve steps was not a problem for me.
I definitely recommend this room with the bus into Manhattan a short block and a half away.
Интересный мужчина, однако не смог точно уточнить в какое время он приезжает, не смотря на то, что я три раза переспрашивала. В связи с этим, я готовилась его встретить в 24 часа в аэропорту, а он прибыл в 12 дня :)
