In my day to day life I'm an IT professional having worked for the past 10 years for a global consulting company. On holidays however, I'm an adventurous Aussie traveller that likes to get away several times year as work allows. Having never had extended amounts of leave to go backpacking or globetrotting, I am tactical and targeted in my trips and enjoy breaking my year up with new places.
As a traveller I love interacting with the locals, eating and drinking in the culture and balancing "seeing things" with taking a breath. I can't go anywhere without my music as it ties me over on the longer haul journeys and once at my destination I tend to bring a book out to fill the relatively short periods of time at the end of a day or start of the morning.
I love hitting up great restaurants, cafes, eateries and bars. It's a way of observing and meeting people in their daily life but equally, a chance for me to reset what I want to do that day or note what I have already done.
I will travel half way around the world to meet a good friend and travel with them, relationships are so important to me. My favourite destinations - and this is always a hard thing to do - would be NYC for the vibrancy of life and the wonderful friends I have made there; Sri Lanka for the unexpected beauty, culture, food and kindness of its locals; and Germany for the history of both good and bad, the underestimated openness of the locals and of course, the beer.
I'm a considerate traveller who appreciates that things such as airbnb only work when there is reciprocated respect, for my part it's about recognising that I am a guest in someone else's city and home. I would love to think I could extend the same degree of welcome to host people I meet along the road.
I look forward to meeting more amazing people on my journeys!
