I'm an accounting student. I love to travel and I think Airbnb is really cool because you get to connect with locals instead of staying at a hotel or resort - which can be a bit isolating at times.
Great location downtown with easy access and transportation options. Clean, very comfortable with wonderful views of the city. Historic building in a great neighborhood. Host was very accommodating to my need to adjust check in/out times by a bit. I would return anytime.
Helen has a great location. You are high up along side a large old church. It made me think of some combination of Paris and NY. 1/2 block from the Portland Museum of Art. Compact hideaway that made a great launch point for exploring the city. Would reccomend
Helen gave great instructions for our stay, and left a handy map and personal recommendations list for us. We didn't meet in person, but communication via email and text was easy and fast!
Apartment amenities we particularly enjoyed:
Free wi-fi, plants everywhere for a homey atmosphere, top floor of building with nice view, comfy bed with memory foam pillows, hairdryer, ear plugs, speakers with aux cable, full size refrigerator with freezer, vanity area, excellent heating, quiet building
The location is fabulous; 3-10 min walk to downtown and pearl districts; super close to Bolt Bus stop and other buses. 20-30 bus ride to Washington/Forest Parks.
Helen's studio is a pleasant and convenient place to stay in Portland. The apartment receives ample indirect sunlight and was a cheerful and cosy respite when the daily highs were well below 30F. There were many charming details, like the windows, and it was thoughtfully arranged. Also, having a full-sized fridge and stocked kitchen were essential, because the food in Portland is amazing and the portions are immense!
Helen is a conscientious host that anticipated our needs, and was responsive to any questions and little issues we had during my stay. She also had helpful advice, which was well-appreciated, and she left the studio tidy and put out the items I'd requested ahead of time (hair dryer and iron). The check-in and check-out were easy-peasy.
The only small cautionary note I have is for light sleepers: the walls are thin! This isn't a problem between apartments (the sleeping/living space is sandwiched between the kitchen and dressing area), but you can hear the elevator and people passing/carousing in the hallway. If you're easy to rouse, I would recommend ear plugs.
Helen's place is very conveniently located downtown and in a friendly building. The view from the windows (including the bathroom!) is beautiful. The bed was comfortable, water was hot, and the kitchen had full appliances. She easily accommodated my late booking and plan for early arrival, which is much appreciated.
I really enjoyed my stay in Helen's studio. The location is great - public transportation is a block away, there are lots of restaurants and shopping around, a large supermarket is two blocks away, Powell's book store is within walking distance. My phone and email interactions with Helen were very friendly, and I really appreciated the guide to the area and map she provided for my stay.
My wife and I love Portland, and we have stayed in some great hotels and Air BnB properties, but this is my new favorite. The apartment is simple, but very comfortable with a real kitchen and great views of the city skyline. The best part though, is that it is in the greatest neighborhood: between downtown and Portland State, the South Park area is all historic churches, museums, great restaurants and trees. Helen made sure our experience was perfect. The ancient elevator is noisy in the morning, but earplugs did the trick! Everything is "just around the corner," including Safeway, Pioneer Square and the symphony.
Helen's place is located in a great part of town. Its close to everything. The apartment is very homely and she was a great host. Communication was easy and she also left some suggestions of things to do and places to visit.
The apartment building is a historical building in the city of Portland, meaning there is only one lift but this age adds to its charm. I would go back to Portland tomorrow if given the opportunity and Helen's place would be the place I would want to stay again. Bed is fantastic, shower was really good, nice host. Book it now.
What a great spot! It's a block from the park blocks and the art museum. I especially loved being at eye level with a gorgeous church belfry across the street. So cool!
Helen has left enough life in her apartment that you don't feel lonely, but not so much that you feel like a voyeur. (That's not an easy balance to strike.)
Bed is comfy. Great views. Host was responsive and kind (even to a dumb question). Loved all the plants and the windows.
This was a great place to stay! The bed was super comfy and the shower was hot - what more do you want?! Excellent location. We had a rental car but walked everywhere. I'd highly recommend this place to family and friends visiting Portland. Thanks Helen!
