We had an awesome summer (we spent two months here) in Portland thanks, in part, to Mark's lovely apartment.
Based in the vibrant Kerns/Laurelhurst area, in SE Portland, we had everything we wanted on our doorstep (Wholefoods, Laurelhurst Theatre - $4 for a ticket!, Laurelhurst Park, and a variety of great bars and restaurants). We would definitely stay in the SE if we ever come back to Portland (and we intend to!) - we enjoyed it so much that we rarely needed to go downtown. It is, however, super easy to get downtown from the apartment; it's about an hour walk, 30 minutes by bike, and 15 minutes on the number 20 bus.
Mark's apartment is very spacious and immediately felt like home. The neighbourhood is relatively quiet, although very close to so many amenities (see above). In particular, the neighbours in the apartment block were absolutely delightful - Joe and Coleen (the managers) were especially helpful. We kept in contact with Mark via email and Skype and he gave us some good recommendations of things to do in Portland.
Overall we had a brilliant stay in Portland and are now looking for a way to come back. Thanks to Mark for letting us his apartment and giving us the opportunity to experience the SE, what we think is the best part of Portland.
Mark was a terrific host! The apartment was neat and clean, spacious and really quiet. He was in Germany, but the apartment managers were ready to welcome us and were always available for questions and conversation. Mark's artwork and decor were fascinating, his kitchen full of fancy gadgets, and the couch and bed were brand new and very comfortable. The apartment is a short walk from the lush and green Laurelhurst Park, charming Burnside cafes, a Whole Foods, and some of Portland's famous food carts. A few blocks in the other direction brought us to Belmont Street's shops and restaurants, and then in 2 more blocks we found ourselves on wild and wonderful Hawthorne Boulevard with Powells Bookstore and the Bagdad Theatre!
thanks Katherine! Was nice having you - !

Its esay to comunicate and educated person.
Mark is a very nice guy, easy to talk with and respectful with the flat.
Mark stayed with me a few daws and always was very polite and friendly.
I strongly recommend him as a good guest!
Marks a friendly guy. You'll like him.
