The host was nice enough, but describing the house as "MINIMALIST MODERN" is an understatement It was in a nice neighborhood, but the house he rents needs cleaning and sprucing up! The floors were not clean enough to walk barefoot on!. The pictures that were on the website before we left, are now off the page, because they showed a completely different living room than what we got. I have a copy oft the living room picture I thought we were getting, a beautiful white sectional couch with a couple of nice chairs and a rug. The living room we got had a black futon, 2 old chairs, and a dirty coffee table. The weeds in the back yard were overgrown and those pictures were also deceiving. The chairs were filthy by the pool - I wouldn't sit on them even with a towel! Too bad the picture that showed the pool with a rug and a nice table and chairs were not there! After specifically asking about towels in the home, the host left 4 towels, for 3 people for 4 days. I had to go out and buy towels. There is no ice to speak of in the "icebox", which was from the 1950's! The futons were awful! No way could 4 people sleep there! Do not plan on cooking much, there is not enough stuff to cook with - also, no dish towels or dishrags to do dishes. There is no table in the dining room or anywhere else to have a family meal. Very disappointed! Sheets and pillows were awful - I had to buy new sheets, towels, dishtowels, pans and utensils to cook with. The only bright spot, was the pool itself. Although it needs some attention, after 2 days, of our 4 day stay, the water finally looked clean enough to swim in for our last 2 days there. It was in a nice neighborhood, but the house he rents needs cleaning and sprucing up! The floors were not clean enough to walk barefoot on!
Horrible experience/ false advertising! DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
When I arrived at the house, it was nothing like the pictures, they must have been taken in their heyday. The house is sparsely furnished, advertised as a 2 bedroom, it was only one. The one bedroom was unsleepable. The bed was a wooden plank with a thin ghetto piece of foam, not even a mattress to shield the wooden plank; the bed was hard and uncomfortable.
The pool was a swamp and unswimable, the owner told us the pump had just broken. The concrete outside was stained and cracked , the pool furniture was broken, dirty and busted.
After 10 minutes of trying to make it work and in shock that someone could try and pass this place off as inhabitable, I gave up, no one should have to live Iike this.
I told the host within 10 minutes of arrival that we( my sister and I ) couldn't stay here.
He was very kind and recommended local hotels. We ended up booking and staying in a hotel.
I called Airbnb immediately to let them know and asked them not to release the funds, they said they wouldn't and that I would get a refund within a week.
A week later, no refund and I realized they released the funds..thanks Airbnb!
The host kindly contacts me and says he will send me my refund by the end of the week, great no need to file a complaint.
2 weeks later no refund . .. I contact the host asking for my refund.."oh so sorry it's been a busy week" and promises to send that day...a week later no refund..
I contact the host again and threaten to leave a bad review and contact Airbnb.
He sends $20 of the $287 through PayPal .
2 weeks later I contact the host and tell him this needs to get resolved. Again he promises to pay by the end of the week....nothing. I contact him again ...no answer. 2 months later NO REFUND!
I fold, here is the review I should have written in June, maybe I could have saved Jan the horrible Experience I had to endure.
I have never had such a bad experience using Airbnb. I've rented in Austin , NYC and Barcelona and have had great experiences until now. I also rent my apt. In NYC and try my best to give the people who rent my apt. A great stay.
What this host/ Michael has done, is completely take advantage of another human being. How someone, a grown man, can knowingly lie and steal from another person is beside me.
Michael is a complete slime ball and I hope he drowns in his disgusting pool.
The host canceled my reservation the day before arrival.
The place was amazing. Go here if you like a minimal modernist feel, with little embellishments. The place has got all the essentials, a beautiful backyard with a pool and lighting all strategically placed. The neighborhood is ideal for strolling about, and it's very near good restaurants. Michael was so helpful, and left a bunch of great suggestions on where to go and what to eat. The suggestions were on point.
Michael was a very polite gentleman. We shared good conversation, a day at the east village guggenheim lab where Marlis Momber shared her photos of the eastside community. A natural healer. I recommend Michael as a guest. He is welcomed back by Marlis and I.
