Our first time staying through airbnb was a great experience. Christos is an excellent host, very helpful, gave us a warm welcome with tea and coffee and interesting conversation. He is very laid back, ready to help, leaves you all the privacy you need and provides a great atmosphere in his place, thanks a lot, Christos!
We loved the place, especially the roof top terrace is the bomb, but also the spacious double room with a cute separate balcony and the nice little kitchen. WiFi internet is working seamlessly.
The area is perfect, as the title suggests, very central with all the sights in walking distance, park right next to the place, but also very cosy with a very local neighborhood feel, all the little shops, restaurants, bakery etc.
We totally recommend the place, will hopefully be back!
Christos was an excellent host. The apartment was centrally located, and had a great rooftop.
Accueil très sympathique dans un quartier parfait (pour nous).
Nice place very close to the center. The room is very spaceful and the rooftop terrace wonderful! We can recommend this place!
Very nice location, walking distance to major tourist sites yet within a working class real Greek neighbourhood which had an open air farmer's market as well as non-tourist taverna's for a true Greek experience.
Dimitros is a great guy and we had some interesting discussions with him on the roof-top terrace (which is a nice place to relax in the evenings). Overall, a good experience.
Very positive experience! christos was a friendly, helpful and flexible. The flat and rooftop were as we expected from the descriptions charming.. Location perfect.
I've known Christos for more than ten years, and he is one of the most interesting people i have ever met! He is a great host, very sociable, an amazing cook and the house is always spotlessly clean. He is very helpfull, willing to provide information and ideas on how you can get around the city. I have actualy lived in this beautifull house for 4 years and the location is perfect. Tranquil and safe, situated in one of the best neighborhoods in the center of Athens, served by buses and three metro stations. You can find bars, taverns and supermarkets next to the house, while the Acropolis and the historical center are just 10 minutes walking distance. This comes very handy, when returning from a night out, as there is no need to take a taxi. One of the highlights of this house is the amazing terace, that you can enjoy all year round. The house has everything you could possibly need, wifi connection, fully equipped kitchen and bathroom and the room is big, very cosy and luminous. I would also advise asking Chris to cook for you a traditional Greek meal. The guy works wonders in the kitchen!!! I am sure that your stay will be one to remember.
Funny, generous, gentleman, positive, open, outgoing, straightforward, sociable, with a sense of “common sense ”, very hospitable, end extremely good chef. All those words and many more can describe my view of Christos since we met in 2007. His manual dexterity and intelligence can solve problems and make life easier. It is really an experience to spend time with him, especially in this amazing house, in the hart of Athens.
Due to the location of residence, on the “foot” of Filopappos hill green park, is surrounded with trees and plants. However, the roof-garden of the house is similar to the green park, full of plants, with a great view of the hill. The area is quite but everything is in a short (walking) distance, bars, restaurants, archaeological sites, metro, markets, and central locations.
I am definitely recommending this place to people who search for a “real” experience of Athens and I am sure they will enjoy the cosy house and they will remain in touch with the housemate after the trip.
Christos way and rhythm of life is an exceptional puzzle of metropolitan and “back to nature” elements at the same time. He is a part of the city, a native Athenian who keeps on him an atmosphere of the past, a taste for gatherings with friends around wine, food and musical instruments . The house he lives in is a beautiful, big “old style” house with a terrace full of plants and a view to the hill, in a neighborhood full of life. Petralona is a place in Athens with very stylish bars. You can also find there some cooperative restaurants with cheap and good food. Petralona is one of the best places to live in Athens therefore the best place to spend your vacations.
Christos is an alternative guy, who loves to communicate with all living things, humans, plants, dogs, parasites etc. He has great knowledge about herbs and uses them also in the kitchen. Simplicity is his middle name and you will surely notice it, while staying at his place. If you get to know each other, you will most definetly meet a fine breeze of everyday's life humor, but that will depend on the level of your mutual understanding.
Christos resembles in many ways friendship and welcome as we used to know it many decades ago in Greece: Sincere, direct, caring and cheerful. All these might be served to you if you are somebody who doesn't value money over human relationships.
Be respectful to him and it will work vice versa.
Never feed him after midnight!!
I know Christos as a friend for around two years. The first time i visited his place i was sure i was in an urban cottage house, amazed by the greenest terrace i had ever seen. I was looking around asking about everything,- yes! He has an answer for everything when it comes to his garden- as i couldn't imagine that somebody could actually has a slice of countryside lifestyle and still live downtown.
At this place nothing is frill. Everything is so simple and functional that any awkward guest feeling is phased out in the first moments. That's the thing with Christos too. An easy-going multi-tasker who can easily talk from cooking and gardening to diving and rebetiko, generous and always eager to help around with his know- how.
When it comes to neighborhood, things don't change much. Ano Petralona, is a quiet and though vivid area, being a hot spot for young people who choose to de-rush their everyday lives. Cosy coffee shops, small taverns, fair trade stores, Filopappou Hill, cultural centers and the thing that you can reach the center of the city by short walks or all means of public transportation, make Petralona an ideal choice for those who want to visit Athens.
Would i recommend it? For sure to all those who truly want to live in the city they visit and not just visit a city.
I know Christos since 2004, through common friends. Actually we lived together in the same house for a few days, when i needed a place to crash and our common friends suggested i could youse the very comfortable couch...
He is a very nice guy, really involved in what's going on in Athens. He is honest, serious and funny, the calm power in our bunch of people... He is a very good cook and also a very good bouzouki artist, (but don't press him too much on that). What I admire the most about Chris, is the fact that this dude has "the green thumb" and shows his affection on plants and flowers.
So, guys, don't hesitate: Christos would make the best host you can find in Athens!
I know Chris for several years and I truly have only good things to say about him. He is a very talented individual with practical and effective manors. Whenever I needed to be hosted at his apartment I appreciated and enjoyed his warm hospitality, as well as his adorable room with the wonderful terrace which he managed to transform to a green oasis. The positive energy of this roof studio is really incredible and there is no better place to enjoy your morning coffee, surrounded by greenery and the feeling that you're in one of the highest points of the city. The neighbourhood is also very interesting and strategically located - just 5 minutes from the historical hill of the Acropolis, metro and buses - full of trendy bars and cosy cafes. It could be called the "east village" of Athens. I believe that it is the ideal location to live in central Athens, close to all attractions, great view, enclosing an incredible terrace and a willing and welcoming host who is always ready to help and share the hidden secrets of Athens. I strongly recommend his place to whoever wants to experience the true life that Athens has to offer.
