I grew up on a cattle and timber farm in the Willamette Valley of Oregon and just loved it there. I've now settled down in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn with my amazing wife and two adorable children.
While attending college at Vassar I fell in love with the Hudson Valley and the beautiful bounty of scenery, adventures, great people and excellent products it offers up. I searched far and wide for a property whose topography had a real feel of the Valley with a location near the best towns (in my opinion Rhinebeck, Red Hook and Kingston are a trifecta that can't be beat) and house that appealed to my sense of design & beauty. Finally locating this property (which my friends, family and I call Ferncliff Estate as it used to be part of the old Astor Estate called Ferncliff) was a real joy. I've put a lot of sweat into the landscape and interior of the house and wish I could spend every day living in it.
In terms of my personality I'm a pretty relaxed, easy-going guy that was raised by a single mother and a loving church family in a small (think Mayberry) town in rural Oregon. Growing up on farm meant that I learned to fix things and build things myself so everything from the rock walls to some of the custom cabinetry at the house is my handy work. Studying architecture and design (albeit a hard sciences major in school) I have a passion for well designed and beautiful things so there are numerous pieces of furniture inside and out of the house which I've designed and commissioned through local Hudson Valley artisans to mirror the houses beautiful woodwork craftsmanship.
