Martin, Rosemary and family were all very welcoming - nothing was too much trouble. The neighbourhood is quiet with a great view of the Lee Estuary. An iron and ironing board were provided when asked for. The sitting room has a grand fire which is always lit. Wi-fi is provided so you can surf the net in the sitting room and books are provided so you can read some interesting thrillers. The bedroom is really large with an en-suite and walk-in wardrobe. The location is great for Little Island, Cobh and Cork in general with parking available.
I spent the summer at Martin and Rosemary’s home while on a short-term (12-week) work assignment in Cork. While I have traveled extensively over the past 10 years, my stay at their home represents one of the best travel experiences I have ever had. Their hillside home is located on several beautiful acres of land with wonderful views of the River Lee and surrounding countryside hills. The mature trees, expansive garden and historic structures on their lot created a relaxing atmosphere and added interest to my frequent leisurely strolls on their grounds.
While the map may suggest that the home is in the country, all modern conveniences (i.e., grocery store, shopping center, restaurants, train station, Starbucks/Costa, golf course, exercise facilities, etc.) are easily accessible. In addition, the home is very close to major employment centers in Carrigtwohill, Little Island and Cork City that are accessible by car, train or bicycle within 5-20 minutes. I was able to reach my office in EastGate Business Park within 10 minutes by car. On the weekends, I appreciated the home’s proximity to interesting sites along the southern coast in addition to west Cork, Kerry, Galway and Dublin, all of which were easy day trips with a car.
Martin and Rosemary are very knowledgeable of the surrounding area and are a great source of interesting recommendations to fill your free time. I enjoyed their company when I had free time and also appreciated the privacy of the sitting room when I needed to focus on work. They created a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and made a noticeable effort to make sure that my stay was enjoyable. My room and connecting bathroom were very clean, spacious and quiet. There were also wonderful views of the river valley from most vantage points in the bedroom.
Several of my colleagues from the USA stayed in the hotels in Fota, Little Island and Cork City and spent 25%-40% more for their accommodations, none of which were comparable in quality or value to my experience. I highly recommend Martin and Rosemary’s home to business travelers who seek a superior long-term accommodation alternative to the local hotels. Additionally, this may also appeal to vacationers who seek a comfortable multi-week “home base” from which to explore Ireland.
Martin and Rosemarry are a really nice couple. They gave good recommendations to upgrade my visit in Cork. The house is very clean and comfortable. The location is a little bit offside from Cork but the nature is there great and the view down from the house is amazing!!!
