Welcome! PLEASE send a message and wait for my response (which is usually very quick) before sending a reservation request. We have been blessed with a lot of repeat guests so I want to be sure that we can accommodate you before you book. Respectfully, I will not allow pets -- though under the perfect circumstances, I have been known to bend this but ONLY WITH PRIOR PERMISSION. Do NOT show up with an animal without getting permission -- I will have to turn you away! I have one dog (a super smart dachshund) and this is his home. Thanks! :)

The Driving Commute: If you are heading to DC, and allow morning rush hour(s) to subside, it'll take you 25 min. by car to get into the heart of downtown DC. There's metered parking, parking garages, and even some free parking I can alert you about. A lot of driving guests will drive to the Silver Spring metro and park in a garage one block away for about $8.45/day.

The Walking Commute: If you are without a car, it's a more daunting task. The bus stop is a 1/2 mile walk uphill (I live in a little valley next to a stream). The bus (Z6 or Z8) takes 20-30 min. to get to the Silver Spring metro station. It's about 30 min. on the train to Metro Center (the heart of the metro system and downtown). So expect at least an hour commute. It takes a while, but it's good for you -- I have had overweight guests lose multiple pants sizes by this handy-dandy exercise routine. :)

VITAL: Although we am very kind and friendly, ALL guests in your party MUST be approved before acceptance. Absolutely no outside guests will be allowed to stay here, other than those pre-approved. The happiness and safety of my home, self and other guests is of utmost importance. Thank you so much for respecting this rule.

Communicate with us. We are easy to talk to :) If you break or bleed on something, say something as soon as possible -- maybe we can help fix it. If you have problems working something, please ask. I can't fix what I don't know about. I'm human (no, really!) and I'll get my feelings hurt if a guest never says a word that can help me help them, and then airs their concerns in a review once it's too late to accommodate his or her needs.

TEMPERATURE: My motto is fresh air whenever possible (usually healthier for you). This house is situated in a valley next to a stream with woods surrounding it, so it is buffered from the weather to some degree.

In the summer, I tend to keep the air at around 74-76 and run dehumidifiers for improved air quality/comfort. In the winter, 67-68 at night and 69-73 during the day. If you want to be blasted with frigid a/c in the summer and prefer to walk around in t-shirts in the winter, the Airbnb experience might not be right for you :). That being said, we will do my best to accommodate your needs within reason.

THE SKINNY ON US: My newlywed husband, David, and I, are an energetic, fun-loving couple who are very involved with sports (especially hiking, running and volleyball), friends, music (we both sing, and he plays guitar), good conversation, dinner parties, animal rescue, travel and church. We have an insanely high mortgage which we can't refinance currently, and it's kinda' nice to share this large home with kindhearted, sensible folks in a way that helps to cover the bills :)

For guests who are looking to relocate to DC, I am a real estate agent with WC&AN Miller in Bethesda. I am licensed in DC, VA and MD and would be happy to assist you in finding longer-term housing, whether for rental or purchase. I have helped at least a dozen guests to date find their perfect place! I love the trust they place in me.

There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make your stay more comfortable: The high quality beds are fitted with bed-bug protecting covers (we've never had a problem and never plan to), the drinking water is filtered, the beds are comfy (don't believe me? Read the reviews!), and the WIFI is waiting!

My mother raised me to "leave others better than you found them." It is our sincere hope and commitment that our guests realize this during their stay at this beautiful home. The hundreds of guests who've stayed here in the past five years--and the high number of repeat visitors--tells me that we must be doing something right!
