That was very interesting and unpredictable! Very nice!
We (me and my wife) very recommend this house.
+ Great jungles around it. Many birds and animals are there. Nature sounds.
+ So nice dogs and it is really nice :-)
+ Andrew Bacon was very kind. We had several great journeys with him!
+ We love Carribean sea here. Cockles beach is the best for surfers, but it is also good for swimming. Big beach and soft sand.
+ Punta Uva is near from here. Punta Uva is the best place we have seen!
+ All you need to live you have. Kitchen, bath, bedroom.
- Supermarket is a bit far from the house. About 2 km.
What a great experience. My 17 year old son and I stayed at Andrews place while in Puerto Viejo and had a great experience, it was perfect for us. From the very beginning Andrew was great at answering questions and giving feedback. We had been rafting the day we were to get into PV and I hadn't made arrangements of where to meet with Andrew, and since our shuttle was running late we just showed up at his restaurant Chile Rojo and he greeted us with a smile, Pura Vida! We ate at his restaurant right when we got in and wow! what great food. Came to find out that Andrew is a world class chef and we ended up making his restaurant a hub for us, and he was a great resource during all of our vacation. The beach house is nestled in the jungle about 300 yards from the main road up a dirt road, a true jungle experience. The house is cute, and comfortable, we felt safe and felt safe with our belongings there while we were out. The kitchen is properly equipped if you want to cook your meals there, although we ate out every meal and basically used the house as a place to sleep. Where the road from the house and the main road meet is at Cocles Beach, and the main town is about 4 mins away. We walked it which was pleasant but also had Quads for transportation (we rented from dragonfly on Andrews suggestion, great experience with Guerro) which was expensive but very convenient but worked well for us because we explored other beaches and towns. The road from the main road to the house is easily accessible by bike but has a slight incline the last 150 feet so you may have to plan walking the bike the last bit, downhill would be easy. The house has a porch to hang out on, the puppies like to say hello and we came and went as we pleased. The greatest part was what a wonderful host Andrew and his wife are, and how helpful they were at making suggestions on where to go and what to do, and one night they cooked the fish my son had caught. what a great experience and what wonderful hosts, laid back and so interesting. I would recommend this place and would stay again. Thank you Andrew!
My wife and I stayed with Andrew and his wife at their rental house March 2014 for a week. It was as described and very nice. The satellite TV service is not yet hooked up but the internet is free and unlimited. It is a brand new little house and Andrew is still outfitting it and improving on the little things as guests make suggestions. Andrew and his wife were extremely pleasant and eager to please and help out. They have two friendly dogs that will visit if you like dogs. The kitchen is small and basic but has a full size fridge and a gas stove and oven which we found very useful. 7 minute walk to the beach so a car is not essential. Well stocked supermarket is just down the road another 5 to 10 minutes ( we had a car so I did not make that walk ). Ceiling fans in all the rooms make a huge difference and we found it cooled down at night. I suspect it is much cooler and fresh than being right in town. Quality orthopedic mattress in both rooms. As well it is very quiet and peaceful. About 5 minutes to downtown PV by car ( at bicycle speed ). I understand taxis are cheap and there were lots available as well as lots of bike rentals in the area. We would not hesitate to return or recommend this rental from Andrew and his wife.
My husband and I stayed at Andrew's guest house for a week over the Christmas break and ringing in 2014. This house is perfect for those who want to experience both the jungle and the beach, as both are walking distance. Andrew was a wonderful host and was very accommodating. There is a flat screen TV in one of the rooms with a DVD player. Although we weren't interested in watching TV, I was sick for about 3 days and Andrew lent us his computer to watch more movies. We like to make blended drinks and so he brought us down a blender. As a bonus there is a washer and dryer! We loved hanging out on the front porch, playing cards, and listening to nature. Andrew runs a wonderful restaurant called Chili Rojo (even when we asked locals where we should eat, they pointed us to his restaurant!) It's delicious and from the sushi to the tacos everything was yummy! (We live in San Francisco and know good food). He goes there a lot and when our schedules matched up, he would take us into town with him. (It's walking distance but sometimes I was lazy). Cab rides back are $4. He has only recently begun his Airbnb, and was really open to suggestions. He was so quick to help with whatever he could. He has two super sweet dogs, a funny little goat, and a very kind wife. The place would be great for a single traveller, a couple or two close friends traveling. Also a couple with a small child would be fine too. The walls do not go all the way up in the rooms/ bathroom so you would be able to hear each other. This is a great spot to come back to and relax, unless you are looking to veg out on a sofa and just watch TV. This is more of a place to sit on the porch, hike nature, make your meals, and sleep to the sound of the animals. We very much enjoyed our stay and our hosts. Thank you for all your kindness, attentiveness, and overall welcoming selves. We would go back in a heartbeat!
