I had a great stay in Samuel's place. It's very quaint and full of charm. It's in a great location, just outside of downtown too. I'd gladly recommend it to anyone visiting Portland.
The room is located in an old Apartment building near the Freeway. It seemed that many of the apartments were probably rented by students at the University near by. That said, we didnt experience any noise from the neighbors, but the overall quality of the apartments is close to what you might expect for the 'Student Housing' price range.
I really liked the apartment but my girlfriend was less impressed....I think she would have been happier if we had spent an extra 30 bucks/night for a downtown a hotel room. I liked that the room has a clawfoot tub, no TV and a kitchen.
Samuel was great. The first night we stayed, the landlord had just turned on the radiators in the building for the season.....but I guess they hadnt quite kicked on in our room. I let Samuel know about it and he brought us a space heater for the interim. Very much appreciated! Once the radiator was on the next day, the room was very, very cozy.
My husband and I traveled to Portland for a week to work out of my Portland office. This place had all the things we needed as a home base. We walked everywhere and I ate the best pancakes I've ever had in my life, just down the street at Leaky Roof Gastro Pub one Sunday. We never used the kitchen. (I have yet to use anyone's kitchen during my stays in Portland!) Although the place is next to the freeway, we had little trouble sleeping (always travel with earplugs anyway). The building is old, but for the most part all the neighbors seemed like hardworking, quiet people and there was only a little disruption from neighborhood activity at night. Bonus points if you can figure out the meaning of the giant poster hanging at the head of the bed (we could not)!
Great location and comfortable studio. Fun old building in a cool location. Samuel was very responsive and helpful. Walking distance to lots of great downtown locations. Parking can be challenging, requiring frequently moving the car or paying ~15$ to leave it overnight in a lot a few blocks away.
Samuel was very accommodating of our check-in and check-out times. Apartment was as described, definitely not new, but very comfortable and conveniently located.
Samuel was a great host, very quick to get back to me and extremely flexible with checking in and out. The apartment was clean and well situated to see Portland's many wonderful sights. The apartment is in an older building and the hallways have seen better days. If you are sensitive to traffic noise don't forget your earplugs.
We had a great weekend in Portland. Samuel was accommodating on a late arrival to the apartment on a Saturday evening. The apartment is in an older historic building and has alot of character which we appreciated. The room studio was clean and comfortable. In addition, its in a fantastic neighborhood and easy walking into downtown Portland. The apartment building is adjacent to a freeway and didn't affect our sleep and comfort. We would definitely stay there again.
The room was a great base for the two nights we were in Portland. The location is very convenient: downtown is only about a 10 minute walk away and the MAX and Streetcar lines are each only about a 5 minute walk away. We didn't have a car and had no problem getting around. Also, we walked from downtown to the apartment at about 10:30 PM and we felt very safe.
The room's description is accurate. The room/building are obviously quite old but the room was in good shape and kept very clean. It is light and spacious and also has nice features like a claw foot tub and hardwood floors. Additionally, the room itself also has an eclectic collection of items to keep you entertained. Some examples are two full bookshelves, musical instruments, and a container with hundreds of old black and white photos.
The room came stocked with pretty much everything you could ask for in all the rooms, plus the Wifi was fast and there was never a shortage of hot water. I think only very light sleepers could have a problem with the room. The street the apartment is on is not busy, but it is close to the freeway and there was a low, but constant hum during the night. For reference it wasn't any louder than the fan included in the room and this was with the windows cracked open. Also, a fair amount of light does penetrate the blinds. We were able to sleep just fine and I think most people won't have a problem, but thought it worth mentioning.
Samuel himself couldn't have been nicer to deal with. He was always friendly, responded quickly, and was flexible. He was very nice about checking us in relatively late at 10:30 PM and made checkout a breeze. It was a pleasure to deal with him.
Overall I think this a great value and recommend this spot. Thanks for having us!
Samuel was great / flexible with checkin / checkout. The unit was clean, nice, and very conveniently located to downtown / Pearl / soccer stadium. =)
Samuel was very welcoming and easy to communicate with. The place is just as described and perfect for what we needed. Good neighborhood and location. The freeway noise might bother some, but with some music on, it was nothing. Perfect place for a couple to stay.
Samuel was a great guest! He was very friendly, clean and respectful of the property. He left my place in great condition and made it very easy for me to prepare for the next guest. I really appreciated that. I’d gladly host Samuel again and highly recommend others to do the same!
Samuel is a straight forward and honest person. His studio is a perfect spot, close to so many activities that truly show off Portland. I use airbnb on a monthly basis for business travel and would stay at Samuel's place.
Samuel and I have been friends for about 5 years. He is a fantastic person and I feel lucky to know him. He is honest, hard working, creative and a lot of fun. I'd recommend him for anything!
